In Chan of Command your commander can become a drunkard if you lose enough battles
>>
>>97244175
I'm pretty sure the outflank rule was only introduced in the following edition, and at the time the WS player would have had to move his units on board through his own table edge, which he couldn't do since you can't move through enemy models and he had no jump infantry (which could move over the Kroot) or tanks (which could force the Kroot out of the way with a tank shock test).
As people have pointed out before, there would have been plenty of ways to prevent this scenario: just deploying one unit on the board would have been enough since you couldn't be infiltrating units within 12'' (if there's no LOS) or 18'' (if there is LOS) of enemy units. But since he was playing a WAAC list consisting nothing but fast bikes that arrive on board on the player's first turn to ensure the opponent can never shoot at them before they get to move and shoot, he had his whole army in reserves and lacked any way to get past a single unit think Kroot conga-line.
>>
>>97244175
No, he would require Khan to do that and he'd come in off the sides. You couldn't just come in from reserves anywhere at the time, you had to arrive from your table edge unless you were outflanking (a specific, declared rule) or you were Snikrot, who could specifically come in on the enemy's edge. This is providing this is 5th, which I believe it is since the deployment type seems to be "Dawn of War" (deploy HQ and two troops, everything else in reserve) and null deployment on Dawn of War was very common. This deployment type added to the mechanization if 5th ed armies, but that's a different topic. It meant 1/3 of the time your static firepower had to walk onto the table, so they couldn't shoot at all and couldn't run since that wasn't a thing.
I want to point out that this is a full 4x6 table, so that's an asston of kroot even fully spread at 2" coherency.

Ah I see.

I didn't understand any of your explanations, I never got within 20 meters of a tabletop game. But thanks for explaining eitherway.
>>
>>97244573
As I vaguely understand it (and will be happy to be told otherwise by more experienced anons), units entering the battle need to start a certain distance away from the other enemy units currently on the battlefield for the sake of fairness so that you don't get a scenario where one guy watches their opponent set up their army and then just completely encircle them from all sides like an antlion pit. And while there are a few units that can get around that to a degree, bikes aren't one of them.

Popular Choices for Games:

Currently the most played one, uses a d20 resolution for everything, has powers building and rules for tactical combat.

>Marvel TSR/ FASERIP
Classic Supers game from the 80s, still has a lot of fans and various retro-clones. Uses a d100 with an universal resolution table to decide the degree of success, has random character generation and abstract rules for powers and combat.

Shroud from Dispatch gave me the idea to have a villain who gives his villains cybernetic implants, especially ones that enhance their existing powers, in my supers setting. What supers system does such implants/augmentations best Abby why? Also, what kinds of implants make sense for different kinds of powers without just directly copying the characters in the game? For a speedster for example, I can see increasing their senses so they can better react to things at super-speed, for example, what do you think?
>>
>>97244196
Bro, if you want speedsters put what amlunt to a mini-engine in their legs that propels them forward, only drawback is that they cannot drift or turn mid-speed. So it's like a rocket.

>C&C is everything 5 x and 3.x shouldve been.
The second half of that sentence is funny in that C&C was 3.0 lite with not a lot of 3.5 influence. D&D 3.x can't have been more C&C like because rule bloat was a TSR thing since the days of AD&D 1e through 2e. It survived due to continuity of development by people working at the bloatiest stage of 2e who already felt they were debloating D&D. If TSR had kept going 4e might never have happened like it did, due to the vidya aspect being inspired by corporate, but there's practically no chance there would have been a leaner rule set like C&C did to 3.x.

Rule bloat was a thing even in OD&D, with even Gygax lamenting how the game had become bloated beyond its original 3-booklet form, and Basic being devised as a way to slim it down.

>In the game Werewolf: The Apocalypse, the Garou (werewolves) were made to defend the earth from the cosmic forces that threaten to tear it apart. The Garou fight against the Wyrm, the destroyer. It is a struggle against nearly insurmountable odds, especially considering the rivalry between many tribes. These rivalries make it almost impossible for the werewolves to present a unified front against a cosmic force that pervades reality.
>From this morass of hatred and mutual betrayal, there is little hope that the Garou can emerge triumphant against a foe so well armed as the Wyrm. The Wyrm promises money, power, sex, and whatever else the heart desires to its followers while the Garou receive no reward for their striving. It drives them deeper and deeper into despair, or into betrayal so deep that they choose to serve the Wyrm instead.

>claws on either side of a gaping hole in the middle
Do you think making it a werewolf-shaped goatse was intentional?

I would like to talk about the Chronicles of Darkness game line Deviant: The Renegades, or more specifically, one major upcoming supplement. Deviant was released in late 2021, and has had three additional sourcebooks since then. A new supplement, Black Vans, has been in playtesting for a while, and is currently being previewed.

I am not being paid or sponsored to promote this book in any way. I am just very fascinated by it, and indeed, I already ran a mini-campaign using the playtest material.

Deviant is, by default, a game about playing angsty, scarred superheroes who either fight world-manipulating conspiracies or work for them. Black Vans is a toolkit full of variant rules, quick NPC creation, variant character types, and variant genres. These variants range from the minor to the dramatic, completely overhauling what were once non-negotiable, foundational themes and mechanics. Maybe your character is not angsty or scarred at all, perhaps they are a """""regular human""""" like John Wick or Batman, or the campaign might have nothing to do with world-manipulating conspiracies.

These variant genres include cyberpunk, high fantasy, post-apocalypse, space opera, and superhero emergence.

This is a beefy supplement. For example, one chapter alone dedicates 38,000+ words to playing other monsters of the Chronicles of Darkness: Beasts, changelings, demons, Sin-Eaters, hunters (entirely separate from the variant rules for """natural""" superpowers), mages, mummies, Prometheans, vampires, and werewolves. No additional supplements beyond Deviant are necessary; the rules are self-contained, allowing the group to play a monster mash of an urban fantasy setting without needing a daunting 7+ books. And yes, they are supposed to be balanced against one another, so a vampire in the same group as a full-fledged mage is probably some older Kindred.

It is supposed to be a toolkit RPG that expects the ST to do the work of fleshing out the Web of Pain. Even then, the core rulebook alone details four cities, each with their own conspiracies that make up a segment of the Web of Pain.

Eric Zawadzki is currently writing Deep Dive, a supplement that fully fleshes out 40 conspiracies from Standing 1 to 10. It also has a full-on sample Web of Pain for STs who want something ready-to-go, spanning dozens of conspiracies.

FRAMES AND CORES

Cores specifically are the main part of your mech. In universe, the core is both the ‘skeleton’ and operating system. The core determines HP, damage avoidance, weight limit, energy limit. The frame is a lot less important statistically, but it is what covers your mech so by name it’s important

Mechs are named after their core+frame and each of the three planets have their own naming conventions

Earth cores are named after liquors and frames are named after times
>midnight grappa
>Friday whiskey
>new years gin

Venus cores are named after iPod designations and frames are deific beings

MOMENTUM AND FLIGHT
this is more of me thinking out loud rather than presenting any finalized.

ALTITUDE LEVELS
>major height and elevation differences are measured in abstract levels
>1 level of difference is out of range of melee weapons and is treated as the same distance for ranged weapons
>as in shooting someone 5 spaces away is functionally the same whether they’re on the same level or a level higher
>shooting someone 2 levels higher is treated as a degree of long range
>weapons capable of 2 degrees of long range would only be able to fire at someone within 1 degree of long range and 2 levels of height difference
>being higher than your target should probably give you 1 extra level before you start getting accuracy/distance penalties versus being 1 level lower just for the tactics of it

>being in air is slippery
>im thinking that if you travel X amount of spaces from your starting point during your turn, you also have that amount of spaces in momentum speed
>momentum speed means that at the end of your turn, place a second marker on the board and that’s where you’ll start on your next turn
>along with traveling larger distances, the benefit of momentum speed is that your damage avoidability increases by 1 for each space of momentum speed you’ll be traveling on your next turn

What kind of stories is this thing for? Give us five media touchstones
>>
>>97242623
It’s just a humble ttrpg with a sci-fi mecha base. I’m not trying to be too unique, just creating a system with the best balance of “satisfying mecha fantasy” and “not too crunchy” I can do. For specific stories, the mechanics don’t restrict anything as far as tones go. The 3 main planets have their own atmospheres though

Venus
>ruled by a single corporatocracy
>businesses and entities still frequently sabotage each other
>lends itself very well to the ‘band of mercs’ origin
>”there’s an AI mech we programmed as law enforcement but now it’s enforcing law on the politicians and CEOs that don’t like it, so go stop it”
>”some rival CEO kidnapped my daughter over the crabby party secret formula, go get her back”
>”I want to leave this soul crushing society but need money to do it”

Mars
>overpopulated and grimy
>main factors of life is urban warfare between street gangs in the city and actual warfare between official city armies
>”youre part of a platoon and need to survive X amount of days/waves of enemies with dwindling resources

Since the random passerby might be able to appreciate the narrative side of things rather than mechanics, I’ll focus on that next. People are free to and I believe will have an easy time creating their own stories with the system, but I’m choosing to design a handful of “quests” for single session play to act as framing for how groups SHOULD spend their time. All quests are graded to a difficulty level and have correspondingly increasing rewards

D-tier
>quests that can be easily completed by a single mech
c-tier
>quests that can be easily completed by a small group(3 or 4) or a single prepared mech with some difficulty
B-tier
>quests that can be completed by a organized group with moderate difficulty
A-tier
>quests that can be completed by an organized group with extreme difficulty
S-tier
>quests designed to party wipe groups unless they have insane luck or the best equipment in the game

>Could choosing your hand work in other games?
could probably work, you just need the right restrictions to avoid shit breaking. what those are will be different to every game. for ashes that restriction is you can't start duplicates, and instead of a banlist they have a short list of cards you can't play in round 1. the bigger issue is that system is only fun in games where you have some info about the opponent's deck before you pick your start. ashes tells you their character and magic colors, so you have some sense of what they might start and can pick cards to hose them.

even if picking your opening draw wouldn't work for most games though, I wish more new games would try something different, any fucking thing. mtg made their start condition Random 7 + Mulligan 30 fucking years ago, and 99% of games since just mindlessly copy it. zero attempt to improve on it at all, despite the fact that the mechanic has always sucked. even the much bitched-about land system mostly fails as a direct result of the random start.
>>
>>97244460
>I wish more new games would try something different, any fucking thing
It's very much doing its own thing gameplay wise (which is good and a nice attempt at a simulation of the source material), and I don't like the card 'art' being all screencaps or posters (though the foils of the latter can look good), but I like how the Godzilla tcg encourages you to hand-dump because you draw back up to the max at the end of your turn. In a lot of ways it feels more like a board game that happens to have a TCG attached to it.
>>
>>97244201
I don't believe they ever did. Seems like they left a lot of money on the table with that decision.

Apparently they also had marketing saying 'with the release of our Nth set every one of our characters will be featured' so now I wonder if it's because post-release production overlapped with her already being on her way to graduation, but I would need to check the timeline on both.

After years of playing, I think the WUBRG elemental may just do me in. Gimmick synergy, tribal, a real throw in anything somewhat related type of commander potential. It also has the most forced WUBRG ability to date: being able to pay WUBRG in order to keep an Elemental you Evoked is utter bullshit. It completely defeats the purpose of Evoke and is just a continuation of "drop a set, put whatever you want under 1 commander."

I hate it, you hate it, and it's just a slap in the face of previous WUBRG Legendaries that tried to be something more than tribal or gimmick synergy, or just cram some WUBRG ability in last second, such as [[Atogatog]] [[General Tazri]] [[Golos, Tireless Pilgrim]] [[Jodah, the Unifier]] [[Jenson Carthalion, Druid Exile]] [[Morophon, the Boundless]] [[Najeela, Blade Blossom]] and [[Ramos, Dragon Engine]] . And I'm missing a shitton of other WUBRG Legendaries that could be Commanders.

But let's look at the new WUBRG Legendaries that could be Commanders (hint: they're all tribal, gimmick synergy, or cram in a WUBRG ability last second): [[Avatar Aang]] [[Cosmic Spider-Man]] [[Hei Bai, Forest Guardian]] [[Heroes in a Half Shell]] and [[Infinite Guideline Station]] .

As long as WotC keeps dropping cards like [[Horde of Notions]] , MTG will die very soon and for real this time.

Lost Ruins of Arnak should've been a Robinson Crusoe expansion.

Why are the Robinson Crusoe expansions not straight additions to the game? They're all meme scenarios and "campaigns".

If your son can take banter, go with it and make fun of them too
If your son can't take banter, my condolences, that's kinda shitty

Ok but eating paper towel rolls is objectively better than this obvious ameritrash game

Are you using this as a teaching aid and reference for players? If you're using it as a ref, it's too wordy - you're asking players to skim through this to find info during their turn. Going to slow the game down a lot and you're going to have people on their phones in like 30 minutes.

Best teaching advice I ever received was to start by teaching the victory conditions and how they're triggered, overview of the board, then teach the actions players can do on their turn. Your player aid/reference should be built like a turn sequence and should aim to cover the most likely events and not every edge case.

Nucleum is good but it's basically Brass with asymmetric powers. I'd always play it, but Brass is better

I tell people now I'll only play Flip 7 if they throw a fiver on the table and play winner takes all

How do you justify a "pest race" like goblins or rat people in your setting? Why wouldn't the dominant species make a concentrated effort to eradicate them if they were a problem?

"Goblins" is a name given to them by Humans since they have no official racial name they identify as being an entirely created race of beings with the ability to adapt to their environments within a few breeding cycles as their lifespans would generally be 20 years assuming they didn't die from overwork, exposure, or violence.

Even when initially taken in by Humans as slaves, they were treated infinitely better which not only raised their lifespans but also their general intelligence. In some Human communities such as the Universal Solidarity, they are recognized as Humans and given full rights and privileges regardless of the fact that they are genetically incompatible with Humans and can never interbreed.

This looks like a Toriyama gremlin you'd see in Chrono Trigger or Dragonball, I love it.

I kinda like the first half, the less human take and it. Human enough to do tasks and to be weird if someone goes around killing them, not human enough to be fully rational and to be kinda disgusting if someone goes around fucking them.

It was just the closes non-coomer goblin I had as an example seeing as it was close enough analogue for the sci-fi/fantasy type setting that currently just lives in my head like many of us.

The game takes place during that concentrated effort. The effort just takes a few centuries, and isn't quite as concentrated as some would like due to all kinds of reasons.

That's part of the lore of The Dark Eye.
