Worst-case scenario you give us all some pointless well-worn platitudes, at best you save some lives from waste.NTA and not that radical, but here are some roughly verified platitudes that might help:>you don't need motivation, you need discipline(Motivation is an ephemeral thing and a shitty goal for the depressed, but discipline is something you can actually work at and plan. This is simply the best box set I have ever seen. I was blown away with the contents, especially the pamphlets they include, the effort and attention to detail is unmatched. I genuinely don't know how other companies compete. That being said, does anyone know what RULES I should use for the actual skirmish? It's 38 Spanish, which is a mix of line infantry and guerillas and 27 French, which are mostly elite companies, ie. voltigeurs. Is this enough for a game of Sharpe Practice?

Is FoW good? Is it fun?
>>97362613It's pretty good for a "Magic-but" I'd say. Fixes the land problem, but doesn't particularly innovate too much elsewhere. My friends and I enjoy it casually. No idea what the meta looks like these days.

>>97362613I picked it up towards the end of last year to play with some friends and it's pretty fun. There's a lot of interesting deck building you can do and I think the art can be pretty great. >>97362660You sound like a yes man, honestly. Talking about what you don't like about something is also valid, and if we didn't waste time on stupid fucking shouting matches based on what you think are misconceptions, those COULD turn into cool content. Instead we get weird autists trying to challenge people for having opinions and not accepting their reasons or justifications for having them. I'd rather have 100 homebrew lore and mechanic discussions than any more purist debates
>>97362687I have my fair share of complaints about the game, too, and I have frequently made them in this thread. Nobody has said that people shouldn't be allowed to talk about things they don't like, nor had anything said anything that could possibly be taken to imply that. Complaining about the incessant negativity in these threads is not the same as trying to shut down criticism, and in all honestly, you thinking that bemoaning that negativity and actually overall liking the game is enough to make someone a yes man makes you sound exactly like the kind of poster I was talking about, someone who complains just to complain rather than out of any genuine interest in discussing the game.
>>97362582I like a lot of things. Most of the Exalt types are cool. I think a lot of factions are based on really cool concepts. Sorcery is dope and so is MA and Crafting (in theory). Having incredible powers is great and so is being the heir to a superhero legacy. It's just a lot of their "Elitist Jerk" stuff falls flat for me. It doesn't feel good, it just doesn't get any simpler than that. The Great Curse just doesn't feel good for instance
>>97362732I think the incessant negativity is good because it takes that energy to make the game better. Let the dissatisfaction boil over and then turn it into something better. The problem with the threads as they are is that it can't get to that part as there's always a guy saying shit like you can't dislike a part of the game because some book quote justifies it, and it becomes an argument. That part is the negativity I don't like, complaining about the game is good.
>>97362804You'd have to be outright delusional to look at /exg/ and think that the negativity here is a good thing, or that people telling other people to stop disliking the game is the problem here. Negativity can be good, sure. It can be constructive. That's not the kind of negativity we have going on, though. Negativity here is stale and pointless, with same complaints and arguments repeating ad nauseam, with few new ideas or fresh perspectives. There is neither energy nor inspiration here.
I need a new GOOD fantasy race to base a campaign region around.
The Cynocephali (The Dog-Headed)Based on the legends of St. Christopher and the accounts of Marco Polo.Sub-Race: The Saint’s Kin (The Orthodox Variant).Trait: Bark of the Word. Their barks can carry the weight of divine authority, capable of frightening demons or "howling" a prayer that bolsters allies.Sub-Race: The Desert Raiders (The African Variant).Trait: Carrion Sense. They can smell blood or decay from miles away, making them the ultimate bounty hunters of the Silk Road.Social Status: In the East, they are seen as noble guardians. In the West, they are often caught in a theological debate: Do they have souls? If they can pray, the Church allows them; if they only howl, they are hunted.

Tabletop RPGs tend to split up crafting into a high number of crafting subskills for every individual area of expertise. There's no question that crafting is still extremely powerful despite forcing you to go through this hassle, but what are your thoughts on which particular crafting subskills tend to be the most useful in the context of a TTRPG campaign, be it a medieval or modern or sci-fi setting?Pic related is from Legend of the Five Rings, where I'll be playing a crafter soon, and I intend to invest heavily into crafting. >Dark elves exist to be evil elves>There's occasionally orcs that are noble savages rather than pillagers>Even dwarves have some evil equivalents like chaos dwarfs in warhammer and whatnotWhat would a "Dark" equivalent to gnomes be like? How do you corrupt a little jolly bearded man from the woods into something evil?
Funny emoug, in his early drafts, Tolkiactually used the word "Gnome" to describe Elves, not Dwarves. The "Wise" Gnomes: Tolkien liked the word because it sounds like the Greek gnome (intelligence/wisdom). In his early Book of Lost Tales, the Noldor (the most intellectual and craft-oriented Elves) were called "Gnomes." He eventually stopped using the word because popular folklore (influenced by 16th-century alchemy and Victorian garden gnomes) had turned "Gnomes" into small, earth-dwelling, often comical spirits. In general folklore, the lines between dwarves, gnomes, and kobolds were very blurry. Both were earth-spirits who lived underground. However, Tolkien specifically moved his Dwarves away from the "gnome" archetype.Almost every dwarf name in The Hobbit (Thorin, Fili, Kili, etc.) and even the name "Gandalf" was taken directly from a list called the Dvergatal (Catalogue of Dwarves) in the Old Norse poem Vöouspa. The idea of dwarves as master smiths living underground, associated with stone and mining, comes straight from the Norse dvergar. The "Greed", The "dragon-sickness" or obsession with gold mirrors the Norse dwarf Andvari, who guarded a cursed hoard. What he invented (The "Modern" Dwarf):Tolkien gave them a secret language (Khuzdul) and a deep internal history. He famously compared the Dwarves' history dispossessed of their homeland and wandering among other nations to that of the Jewish people, which added a layer of solemnity and tragedy not found in most folklore. Before Tolkien, dwarves were often portrayed as ugly, maggot-like, or purely mischievous. Tolkien made them brawny, honorable, and formidable warriors. He intentionally used "Dwarves" (plural) and "Dwarvish" instead of the then-standard "Dwarfs" to distinguish his "elder race" from the "dwarfs" of nursery tales and Snow White.
>>97353846>What would a "Dark" equivalent to gnomes be like?A normal gnome?

>>97360478Curseborne's theming problem, I think, has to do with the fact that it tries to reconcile WoD overall style and Monsterheart's way of being played and perceived, but it kind of lacks what each game has of interesting, Conspiracies, gonzo stuff like Czar Vargo's Lore, arcane international politicking, the end times, and most of the individual themes of each splat. I don't got much on Monsterhearts, but as far as I've read the corebook, it has a strong emphasis on personal interactions between PCs and NPCs, aka sex and complex relationships, and while Curseborne supports that, it has a stronger theme on being misunderstood.By the way, it is really weird to me that nobody has compared Curseborne to Monsterhearts yet.
>>97360405Honestly the big problem I see with uncontrollable once a moon / every now and then werewolves is it just isn't fun to play without heavily going in on scheduling. And then how are you going to cover the secret society / conspiracy angle that WoD has with angry lads that probably hate each other because they didn't want to be a furry murdermachine?
>>97360770>>97360781You don't have to necessarily rewrite either, but I do think that the atmosphere and the ascension war could be reframed to be a bit more gothic and include more stuff from the bible.
>>97362717Who has played Monsterhearts? I haven't, but I'll check it out . Perhaps curseborne should try to sell itself more on being tragedy-kino the RPG with monsters instead of trying to be WoD's Pathfinder? I'm no expert, but I think it has a good foundation to be more like the dark fairy tales and greek tragedies while WoD has pretty solidly encapsulated the whole of schizo conspiracies. Except the new shit like AI and man-made bioweapons
