Sometimes, I find that a published RPG setting does not realize how interesting it actually is, and underutilizes its own ideas. A recent example is Vexia, one of the premade settings of WARDEN, an RPG based on Pathfinder 2e. It is not original, and I am certain that its concepts have appeared many times before in other settings, but I consider it an interesting case study nevertheless.Vexia describes itself as "an Action-Horror game [sic], meaning there will be powerful, horrifying opponents, but they are able to be beaten with blades. It has themes of both Gothic and Cosmic Horror."The tech level uses WARDEN's "Industrial" table, which spans everything from 1600 to 1949, including flashlights and handheld radios. The setting uses the Magitech add-on; there are "aether engines" that can upgrade nearly any item, "messengers" that allow instantaneous telecommunication, and "energy emitters" that generate force fields. Indeed, all weapons with the Magazine trait, such as assault rifles and submachine guns, are considered magitech in this setting. Magitech is crucial to Vexia's industry. There are vampires and werewolves, collectively called Beasts. They are genuinely dangerous, particularly during Blood Moons, which heighten their hunger. Hunters track down and slay Beasts using a mix of silvered Trick Weapons and magic; there is no arcane magic, but the (dark) divine magic of the Ancients is widespread. Hunters can, with a Survival check, harvest Beast blood.... which is the core ingredient of all magitech, or "redtech," in this setting. Suddenly, there is an industrialist motivation. How does a given hunter feel about turning the grinding gears of industry? Does a given hunter feel comfortable harvesting Beast blood and selling it off to industrialists? How does a given hunter feel knowing that industrialists might deliberately spread vampirism and lycanthropy? Will industrialists eventually make Beast "farms"?I find it fascinating. What do you think?

>>97892705>variant humanI'll admit if there is one thing I am happy to be rid of after switching to Advanced 5e, it's dealing with Variant Human. Now make no mistake the options for human are actually really good in A5E, but when feats are "optional" it ends up feeling really odd for only one race to get them.In A5E humans outright get an extra skill proficiency of their choice, plus only need half the time to train in new armor/weapons/tools with downtime. They also get to add a 1d4 (Expertise Die) to any check 1/short rest. The actual options are varied. One lets you go a number of days equal to your CON mod without suffering fatigue (Exhaustion) from no food/water but you need twice as much for the same number of days after. Another enhances Dash 1/SR, making you not provoke attacks and getting an expertise die to Acrobatics checks against hazards and to DEX saves plus letting you ignore one level of fatigue per long rest and then an expertise die on saves to resist fatigue gain during forced marching. Finally perhaps the strongest one. Reroll failed concentration saves up to your INT mod per long rest, and also choose two tools you're proficient with or one skill from a specific list (the non-physical ones) you then always have a minimum of 10 for your rolls with those tools/that skill. Also FUCK the captchas the other day, holy shit.
A thread to talk about the various Pokémon tabletop games out there. Have you played any before or have any interest in them?I'm currently playing through a game of PTU right now through Foundry, it's been fun. It seems like it would be a nightmare to try to coordinate in-person though with how much paperwork and crunchiness there is since you would have to manually manage different sheets and calculations for each seperate Pokémon you catch.
>>97895014I feel like that would remove all of the fun of the battles when it comes down to utilizing the environment, giving trainers extra things to do mid-battle, and other non-videogame stuff that you can do with roleplaying and a tabletop system in general
>>97894871Having it be a squad based game would be neat since you as the Trainer could expressly still influence your troops. Or go full PMD and make it squads of Pokemon.>>97894894What do you mean Null Turns?
>>97895056I was wondering about that too, it looks like reddit speak for missing your attacks/failing your checks during a turn and not feeling useful ;(i initially thought it meant excessive action denial or something which yeah can be a massive pain in the ass
>>97895074There was an errata for PTU like almost 10 years ago to remove all the turn loss status except for Freeze and Sleep. In my game we turned Freeze into Frostbite, -special attack burn basically. Sleep is still there, but any damage wakes you up and we made it easier each turn to wake up like the Vortex saves. I have PTSD from when a Slaking put my Raichu to sleep and I failed 4 turns even with +4 and rerolls.
>>97894568>something you play with your little cousin rather than with friendsanon, are you aware of the target demographics of the franchise we're talking about?
Everyone's issues with RPGs are solved when you do sandbox play. You don't need to prepare too much, you don't need to force players along a track to a desired outcome, players will want to explore the dungeons you've prepared, it's not possible to avoid content for very long when they track resources, everybody wins. It's easier to not railroad players.
>>97894727What's decided is the objective, not the result, retard.
>>97889041As always, I'm here to point out this only applies if the only thing you play is dungeon crawlers over and over again. It doesn't really work for something like Call of Chutullu, any game with a mystery or an intricate conspiracy behind you need to prep for.

>>97891375At least in the context of superheroes, Magik has been a thing for decades. She simply missed out on the X-Men boom in the '90s because she was out of action at the time, so it's only relatively recently that she's returned to relevance.

>>97892037I've already typed this up three times because of some stupid state-wide IP ban, so here goes. Inspired by MahoAko and a magical girl webnovel that got haiatus'd. It's meant to be easy to pick up and play with simple to make characters. Simple d6 dice pool system in order to reach the most people. Combat is the only system module I'm having issues with, because I don't want it to be too easy or take too long. A few systems are in place to represent the more common things you'd find with magical girls. An Identity system gives you benefits for portraying your character's personality. A Bond system is in for Power of Friendship. Magic is supposed to be easy to set up and varied enough to keep things interesting. There's also a corruption system that trades power for an eventual Bad End. At the moment the system is abstracted enough that you could potentially refluff everything as a superhero or toku setting. An update I have in mind will change this, but will hopefully make some of the systems and rules mesh a bit better. What it needs right now is playtesters that can tell me what works, what doesn't, and what needs changing.
Can anyone recommend a good place to find a beta reader for a homebrew wargame? I'd post it here but it's like 150 pages currently, I'm guessing will probably end up being 250 total, and I doubt anyone is going to want to take the time to actually read through all that.
Ok folks, I really need a different point of view there:How would you classify/stat a wide variety of senses?Like, obviously we all know what seeing or hearing allows us to perceive or not. We also have a rough idea of what the sense of smell of a dog allows it to do.But what about the Vomeronasal organ of a snake, for example? Or the vibration senses of a spider? This is a very concrete problem for me, because my game is centred around playing a wide variety of different animal species, so if a player has a shark-like character, I need a simple way to sum up what... say... electroreception allows him to perceive and not perceive and how to roll for it.Here are the two approaches I can think ofOption 1: Full-blown effect-based classification>Senses are cut down into a list of effects, like:>How far does it perceive? (line of sight [perception decreases with occlusion]/ radial [perception decreases with distance]/ contact)>Active or passive?>Does it require the target to be there, or just to have passed by?>What does it target well?>What are its limitations? So, a sonar would be: Active, Line of sight, target present, perceive volume, doesn't convey colours.Option 2: "Work like"Comment too long. "2026, I am forgotten..." Its central mechanic is the Narrative Dice System, using pools made of specialized dice to create narrative results. The intention is for the system to be a highly flexible narrative system, adaptable to most any conceivable setting and premise.https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/products/genesys/https://edge-studio.net/>Any news? The dice are still in stock. >>97892362The dice are still in stock. My cat is not for sale though.
>>97892229Cute cat. Any ideas for campaigns?
Found myself a nice local group and I'm thinking up some oneshot ideas to ease people into the system. I kinda want to run a pulpy weird war game with the players as commandos trying to stop a super evil nazi train or something. I think it could be cinematic and zany enough to help sell the ruleset and the dice. An alternative would be to raid an olde pyramid that nazi occultists are looting, Indiana Jones style. Or a safe bet would be a Shadow of the Beanstalk oneshot, a daring heist on a head office or something. I'm a bit concerned about the timing, as it's in a public venue so the max session time is 3 hours. When I run a game at my house, the game takes as long as it takes because we'll pick it up next week. With a one-shot, there's no guarantee of that.
>>97894344There's an in-game bomb that's going to go off in three hours so if they players don't finish the one-shot by then the PCs die a grim death
>>97894344A three hour one-shot means you'll need something snappy, yeah. If you're going to show off the whole system, you'll need a simple introduction, a general skill encounter, a social encounter (maybe to get some intel), and a combat encounter to round things out.Since you're on a Weird War kick, let's do some Weird War II stuff. The party are Allied commandoes who are currently in contact with the French resistance. A Nazi occultist squad has appeared in Paris and have since disappeared into the infamous catacombs beneath the city. Whatever they're up to down there can't be good, so get down there and root them out. This scenario gives you a good old-fashioned dungeon crawl but with a lot of extra WW2 pulp flavor to it and plenty of room to fill things in around the climactic raid on the catacombs.
Reject all AI from TTRPGS! If a player uses AI to make a character portrait of their PC - BOOT THEM FROM THE GAME!If a player uses AI to make a character biography - BOOT THEM FROM THE GAME! If a GM uses AI to write an adventure for a session - QUIT THE GAME! If a GM uses AI to generate a picture of where the PCs are - QUIT THE GAME!If a GM uses AI to generate a battle map - QUIT THE GAME!REJECT AI FROM TTRPG!REJECT AI FROM TTRPG!REJECT AI FROM TTRPG!

Most "people" are low iq retarded apes. They are physically unable to imagine perspectives outside of their own. Worse than that, they are physically unable to engage in hypotheticals, i.e. fantasy. Thus, the imperiumtard is born. The imperiumtard believes himself to be a "good guy". Again, since he is unable to understand hypotheticals, he takes them literally. He looks for himself in any scenario. In Warhammer 40k, he looks for himself, and he finds the Imperium. Since the retard believes himself to be "the good guy", this necessarily extends to his proxy. Therefore he believes that the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable is good.Of course, there are sentients who play 40k as well. Sentients recognize that Ryan Gosling is not literally you. Sentients can play any faction they like without self inserting as the little plastic figurines. This is physically inconceivable to the imperiumtard. Therefore the imperiumtard concludes that Chaos players must believe that Chaos is good. So, sentients must be hypocritical! How can they say that the Imperium is not good, when they think that Chaos is good?? Hence the meme. Now, what can be done to prevent these subhumans from totally overrunning /tg/ and traditional games as a whole? Is it already too late? I see this behavior in far more places than just 40k.
