The DM reveals that all this time, the 'Chaotic Evil invading soldiers' you've been fighting and slaughtering were actually Lawful Good innocent untrained peasants. They were tricked/convinced into believing they were fighting for survival and defense of their impoverished homeland.

I personally consider Spec Ops the Line to be as effective as the trolley problem in regards to making moral judgements. The Trolley Problem introduces two binary decisions, kill one person or hit a switch to kill multiple people, but has no answer to what happens if you decide to hurl yourself onto the tracks to stop the train with your own body. Likewise, John can either continue moving forward or just stand in place for the rest of his life with the story unable to progress, with the theoretically logical "out" of radioing for help or an evac forever out of his grasp because the game refuses to consider it an option.

Basically, if you need to place that many artificial constraints so that there are only one of two outcomes from the start, then it's only able to judge what someone would do when their hand is effectively forced to decide between two brittle and artificial conditions. Spec Ops the Line is great at making someone question if the act of war is worth glamorizing in game format, but it's shit at making someone question their morals in regards to why they might play the game to begin with via their connection to their stand-in.
>>
>>97260521
also if it was enemy combatants you were hitting with white phosphorus it can be argued that the action was justifiable which is what the devs, probably in their concern that someone would misinterpret their message, opted to avoid. you could still get the horrors of violence narrative in by showing the enemy soldiers mangled and burned out by chemical weapons to similar effect. Would it be better? Probably. Less ham fisted for selling the Walker committing needless atrocities when he could’ve just left dubai narrative. I’m not saying the story is flawless but when people get insulted by it and say its bad just because of that I get a little irritated. Yeah theres stories that get the point of “violence is bad” across more subtly but I see people miss the mark on those constantly too.

>Spec Ops the Line is great at making someone question if the act of war is worth glamorizing in game format, but it's shit at making someone question their morals in regards to why they might play the game to begin with via their connection to their stand-in.
never really considered it as a factor, but now that I look back at it I see there are a few parts that were meant to make the player feel like they were a driving force in whats happening when there’s no out. And yeah that’s frustrating. There were probably some more natural avenues to making the player reflect without putting them on the defensive, and like I said this game isn’t perfect but I wouldn’t condemn it to “shit game” like I see people on many forums opt to do. And it is shit at making the player question their own morals decision making outside of “how bad do I feel about walker doing what is currently happening.”

Regardless thanks for giving my post a genuine discussion even though I was half trolling with it and trying to bait a reaction with it. Hope your new year is well.
>>
>>97260707
You too, anon. Happy new years to you as well. I suppose I'm mainly willing to entertain discussion on Spec Ops the Line because the game's message or attempt to send a message does relate a lot to the kinds of scenarios a lot of DMs might try in the "DO YOU FEEL BAD YET FOR KILLING THOSE PEOPLE?" scenario presented by OP. It's easy to give a knee-jerk response of "No, because they're not real people" or "No, because you forced me into this situation", it's harder for most to articulate just why these situations feel so unfair and not some form of sour grapes over being lectured.

Trench Raiding With The Lads Edition

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

The game has been officially out for like a month. Give it a little time to breathe. It has a large community for a game this new. People kitbashing, digibashing, painting, building terrain. Getting lots of people into the hobby. I don't understand why people doompost about it so much aside from chud drama.

That's not how this works at all you no gamesfag. If you killed a group of goblins, they have loot. If you kill wolves, you now have meat and pelts to sell. If you kill these things you're leveling up either via XP or the DM giving you milestone.

Kurwa Kowalski is quite possibly a Russian himself. There's a Russian from Yaktribe who posts here and spams his homebrew shit and has responded with anti-Ukraine sentiment when pressed (JawRippa). He is one of the more likely candidates for the arrogant ESL Necromunda poster. It's impossible to know without him admitting it, so we just have to accuse Kurwa Kowalski of being all possible ESL races who might dabble in Necromunda. Polish, Spanish, Finnish and French are all leading possibilities.

Yeah, everything else is evil in this campaign. This is my first time DMing and I didn't even realise I did this. Made me feel shitty when one of my players killed the Redbrand just so the naive pure good character didn't do it.

But before he found the cursed glass staff, Iarno was lawful man.
>The Drow are evil: they kill surface-dwellers and awaken evil magic

The owner of the card is always the person that started the game with the card in their deck. Control is whoever is currently holding the relic. So the other anon is right, you need to hold it to get the effects of the relic for yourself. If someone kills the bearer and picks it up, they get the relics text then.

>-2 cards is the main issue
See I haven't gotten enough hands on experience with the game to know if these synergies will pay off, but the existance of them makes me want to build decks to figure them out. In theory a ramping effect can be good for a large monsters and or angels deck. The game is subtly different in how it evaluates drawing and cheating in cards, so it inherently looks useful but only if you can put that mana to use. Theoretically, a "void matters" deck doesn't want to spend too much time building up sites to get the max benefit of the remaining void spaces.

Eh, I kinda saw this coming, just because it's the same thing that happened earlier in the game with blockers/floodgates.
Bandai saw something slowing the game down, makes removal easier until the only way to win is OTK because nothing sticks on the board after you pass turn. I still think they should have printed a "floodgate" keyword so they could print cheap removal that affects only them/blockers, and give decks answers to things that stall their game plan without fucking over every card in existence. Just like they should have printed more your turn protection to deal with aces instead of letting every deck clear level 5s for free.
I'm curious to see if dual cards give some sort of viable defensive option to kick the cycle off again, but I can't see how. Unless they're security bombs stapled to consistency cards, so security can actually be relevant again.
>>
>>97259872
Im new to the game. What exactly are "floodgates"? I have seen them mentioned but dont really know what it means
>>
>>97260577
It's a term borrowed from Yugioh, and in our case it refers to the rookies that are designed to slow the game down by preventing your opponent from gaining memory or cheating costs. "Can't gain memory except by Tamer effects," "Can't reduce play costs," "Can't play Digimon by effects," rookies with those kind of effects.
>>
>>97260621
>It's a term borrowed from Yugioh
If people aren't allowed to use U for Blue, then you can't use the term "floodgate".

>players ask for a deck list
>players ask for all the combos
I feel like these are very normal things to see in any TCG. Did you exclusively play limited so it's odd to see?
>players complain about the format
This for sure is not exclusive to any one game and especially from MTG. If you mean format as in playstyle there's the cards-designed-for-commander in all other formats issues, if you mean format as in time period the recent one is izzet meta in standard again. Not a dig at the game and just making a point that people have things to complain about.
>>
>>97236634
Guys. Why do I feel that I much more competent in some older formats than I am in Master Duel? I have topped in multiple tournaments, but in MD I have troubles getting out of Diamond Rank but everyone says it´s pretty easy to reach Master.
>>
>>97259486
>I feel like these are very normal things to see in any TCG
I want to preface my response with two things, first mtg requires significantly less deck knowledge for success and second I think yugioh is the superior game at the moment
That being said yugioh players seem to have a fundamental lack of curiosity.
Like people dont build their own decks, they dont even figure out what the deck does on their own then if they dont win they throw their hands up and blame the deck
Maybe its a problem local to me but that shit would get you laughed out of an fnm.
>>
>>97260406
>That being said yugioh players seem to have a fundamental lack of curiosity.
That's a phenomenon you'll notice the more closely a player follows the meta, and in particular with this meta since the answers are either to splash in Fiendsmith (old) or Mitsurugi (new). Untiered decks and slightly older meta (as far back as 2021 but also as nearby as pre-Fiendsmith Snake-Eye meta) were more matchup-dependent, where you could feasibly lab out a course of action for most competent decks to contend with whatever was topping the charts. Nowadays you'll just get people asking how A deals with Mitsurugi, or what card to hit in those engines with X Y or Z forms of generic interruption.

Obviously it's a bit of an over-simplification. But the meta does not inspire creativity after someone else solves it, and most people have their eyes on the meta.
>>
>>97260291
Either because those formats are in a solved state or populated by people that went to them explicitly because they're easier than the current format, while the current format is volatile and Master Duel is populated by people that constantly interact with it.

Cephalopods took advantage of the great Lycanthropy die off to move on land. One species of freshwater octopus in particular, have made a home in the wetlands and swamps of what they call the 'over world.' Small, but with very complex social groupings, the Muslims ignore them and just see them as prey animals resulting in a hearty amount of calamari in the Caliphate's diet. Only a southrons have found some very intricate and very complex dwellings in the swamp, including oddly shaped rocks that the octopods tend to congregate around.

These beings are in the awkward phase between bestial instinct and true sapience with most writing them off as wild animals. Very few have observed their music-based form of spiritualism in person and that's good, for the Caliphate would exterminate this haram species if they knew.

>>97260455
The Caliphate reigned for thousands of years after conquering the civilized world probably due to accidentally spreading a plague they didn't understand causing an extinction event . Now for the first time in centuries, they face an equal on the field.
>>
The Elves keep a sapient descendant species of octopus around as servants. Moving on land to escape the Shark plague, the elves started to use this rising species as a way to supplement their declining numbers. Despite being invertebrates, they are pretty hearty in war- using their tentacles to ensnare and strangle ghazis. Where they fall is their relatively weak physique for things like mining and agriculture so they largely function as clerks for elf kind. They spit on the Quran and blame it for the 'Great Dying.'
>>
Dwarven religion is similar to the chasidic judaism, they also practice kabbalah magic.
>>
>>97260571
The Elves are worshipped by a number of genetically engineered slave species. With their numbers declining, the Elves decided to create servants to toil the fields and to march off to war while they built esoteric temples celebrating past achievements of their dying race. Great statues tower high in the steppe, giants toiling as the great cracks of their hammer echo through the desert, horns blare as the battle thralls smash against the Ghazis. Empty, sprawling palaces sit in the far north as grim reminders of the passing of time. Empty cities resemble tombs with sarcophagi homes and walls covered in Fey ruins and pictographs with the long march of the slaves echoing through the empty streets.

The Elves blame the Muslims for the death of their misbegotten race and the collapse of their civilization, so they wage the Infinite War against the hated Caliphate. It's ironic in a way for the Elves have created an entire religion based around idolatry with them as the focus, playing into the Abrahamic worldview of polytheism and thus justifying Islam as the Northern Jihads continue on and on. But it's also a grim reflection on the Caliphate. To Muslims, all non-believers be they kaffirs or heretics, were created by Allah to serve Muslims with the Elves sitting as the logical conclusion to where that path leads and ends.

The north is a broken land fertilized by the blood of dead slaves and marked with the remnants of past glory. One side looks to what was lost and blinds itself to the present, the other ignores past lessons and marches boldly into a grim future. This is no place of honor.

I think you should go complain about the erasure of redheads outside of a game where the most shilled planeswalker is a redhead

>Hurr durr the same applies to white cards
Beans was banned. Leyline was not. Read the room since you can’t read cards.

Leyline wasn't banned because it was rotating lol but it deserved the ban exactly as much

>Halflings to do the farming
>Dwarves to do the smithing and mining
>Gnomes to do the researching
>Elves to do magic
>Humans to do the fighting (and thus, the ruling)
This seems the obvious perfect order to things. Humans don't want to be the peasant farmers, we want to be the knights and lords, but somebody has to farm, somebody has to smith, etc. Why not have the other races do the menial peasant stuff that they specialize in anyways?

Halfings, dwarves, and gnomes generally do enjoy doing those things but also are usually self governed. The second things start going bad the people not in charge will get mad at those in charge. Humans just feel like the catch all here. But generally i dislike settings where all these people live together because humans barely get along with people of different races and its hard for me to see dwarves and elves evening living together, let alone one having a higher social status.

Well, the idea is for a mixed population area as I understand it. That means self-governed ethno-groups would probably overlap geographically, which sounds like even more of a potential problem. I don't think OPs premise is terrible if you assume it's either find a system that works for a mixed population in the same kingdom, or there will be conflict for sure.

Magic wielders do the ruling. Peasants without a divine spark fight.

This is a second OSRG, seperate from the main osrg thread, where you CAN talk about 2e, retroclones, and any osr content you want.
This is different than the regular osrg as due to rampant trolling from a handful of bad actors, discussion is impossible.

Theyre ok. i listened to the audiobooks.
IMO the setting kinda has the same main character syndrome dragonlance has, but to a lesser extent and one you can ignore. The novels events tie directly into the freeing of Tyr with the death of Kalak.

>I refuse to believe anyone who ever tried to play any ttrpg by the book at least once would think those picrel rules are a good idea.
The level of disconnect between the shilling and the actual product is probably what got people suspicious in the first place.

Real Retard Hours are being put in in this very thread.
I hope you're recharging them properly.

Pretty sure that's not a game, that's a scam.
