This is a second OSRG, seperate from the main osrg thread, where you CAN talk about 2e, retroclones, and any osr content you want. This is different than the regular osrg as due to rampant trolling from a handful of bad actors, discussion is impossible.
>>97215565The Item compendiums are such a weird relic of a different time. They wouldn't just list the item, they'd also say which adventure they came from, for what I can only assume is so that a DM who wanted to implement a particular item could purchase that adventure and have their players stumble upon it, because the idea of just dropping an item into a campaign would be too much of a stretch of the imagination.
>>972142973.0 had tons of content made for it because it was popular, not because thr system was special.
>>97207615Why would anyone design a set of rooms like that.If he just wanted to kill adventurers, he could have made one of the doors impossible to open and not a dumb puzzle. The adventurers would keep trying every possible way to open the door and just end up dead.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! >>97217234Shouldn't have to "fix" anything. I want OSRIC to be an AD&D retroclone, not interested in Matt's House Rules or having to go through the rulebook looking for what I need to undo to actually play AD&D. Those changes are a deal breaker for me.
>>97217287Can't happen. Lawyer shit.
>>97217349>Can't happen. Lawyer shit.Nah, that's bullshit. OSE-Classic didn't have to make any changes at all.And the changes Finch has made to the Monk are to "fix" it because he thinks it's too powerful and difficult to qualify for, he's said as much in interviews and even in the OSRIC 3 rulebook. He didn't have to change the Paladin, Ranger, Druid, or Assassin, so there's no legal reason why he would have had to change the Monk.

What's the best version of BRP?I hear that it has pretty quick and lethal combat, and is very much for more grounded games, which is the kind of games I prefer to run. I also really enjoyed the fanmade Fallout PnP system that used percentile dice, and the combat in that. However I am also aware that apparently Chaosium released newer versions that apparently were bad.Which one is good?
I don't think the new editions are bad. They do have more options and try to cover more universal ground, which may or may not be just useless bloat to you, especially considering that is all in the default character sheets. Since you like lethal and grounded combat, you could also look into Mythras as an even more lethal and combat focused D100 game alternative.

>>97217299The best parasites don't kill their hosts. Also the math just doesn't math on Elders needing to stack the bodies up high just to function on the night to night. It strains the credulity of the Masquerade immensely, especially when you remember that human populations used to be much smaller. V5 doesn't understand many things, logistics is one of them. The world prior to the 21st Century is another. It certainly doesn't understand how things like surveillance states and intelligence agencies actually operate. The big issue with V5's vampires is they're so non-functional that one finds it hard to believe they didn't go extinct a long time ago. For the record Blood Potency was fine... in Requiem, where it worked differently and was part of a universal rubric to determine how potent a supernatural being was. I'd go so far as to say that if we were just talking about Requiem's blood potency, you could mix it with generation and have a generational min-max potency and it'd work relatively fine as a compromise. The problem is V5 loved cribbing things from Requiem that worked without understanding WHY they worked.

>>97213553How do you feel about scheming evil kobolds? Cause I might have a story for you...
>>97215754I think of kobolds as redundant discount gobbos only good for midget tossing challenges, but I'll admit that's just because I'm still very pissed at my very first DM always playing them like vietcongs and killing off my characters back in the early 90s. So, I'm always up for a story in which they get btfo.
>>97153880I am so terrified of my players pointing out magical realm that my NPCs generally point the exact opposite direction, meaning we have settings full of tittymonsters who treat other people with respect.
>>97217068So I want you to imagine my kobold leader--she's a stunningly sexy draconic little vixen. Something like pic related, even with a red dragon great-great-grandfather She flirts and teases mercilessly during combat, focusing on her illusion and enchantment powers (she's a mighty sorceress) as well as water and ice (her staff). She's also evil to the core, and wants to conquer the neighboring towns to enslave them. The party fights her, and after battling their way through minions and illusions and mind control and water control, overpower her. easily She starts pleading for mercy, but they're so mad they decide to have some fun at her expense. They stuff her magic staff down her throat and activate it. Her eyes bug out and she gurgles something about not knowing what they're doing. Water starts cascading down her throat, filling her up, They hold her over her own lava pit, like a marshmallow. Being distantly related to a red dragon, she's resistant to the fire damage--but not to getting warm in general. All that heat turns the water to steam, and her body starts to bloat unevenly, especially in her tits and ass which get bigger and bigger. She screams for mercy, barely intelligible through the staff stuffed down her throat, earning a good round of laughs. She locks eyes with the bard woman holding her, terror on her face before she explodes in a gory mess.

From the creators of Obojima, a third-party 5e setting directly based on Miyazaki and Ghibli films, on the official channel for Obojima:https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Sxd-p2Gaj5E>*video shows picture of gnoll*>As soon as you humanize the faceless monster, now, you got a huge problem. It ceases to become fantasy adventure. Keep monsters monstrous, cause you need to have things to kill. If you keep it cinematic and cartoony, you'll have a good time killing monsters. If you start getting into simulation, where...>*video shows more and more pictures of gnolls*>What is the howler culture? What is the nature of intelligence? And like, do they have a soul? And like, you're done playing fantasy game and now you're into the moral nature of our world and existential stuff. Are they right?
Imperialism is for winners, no wonder that fag hates it
>>97216984Shilling aside I agree.Keep it alien stupid.Make it as far as it can be from human morality and s dangerous to the balance of the world as the denizens of the setting know as it can be.I still remember a game where faeries loved humans so much they kept stealing their kids and replacing them, stealing the men they liked them and keeping them with them until they died of old age them tying their remains to sacred trees to keep their favorite with them. They had no concept of the damage they were doing, no idea of the pain they caused and no regards to other that tried to stop them from doing what they wanted to do. Bloody hell that was a great game and I wish more Dms did similar shit to it.
>>97216984I'll do exactly what I want with my game and you can choke on my balls.

Why are the Blood Angels the only ones that are lore accurate?
>>97204961I don't really care whether the vikings being black or not has some lore reason, I think it's just lame that the "minority representation" is literally always the most represented minority and not something more thematic to the planet like inuits and eskimos. Shit's a low-hanging fruit.

>>97217594Whoa whoa whoa you can't just say that all black people look the same
>>97217396it's a miscalculation because they're including the faces as self-inserts for people who want to play the most stereotypical version of the chapter possiblefewer people would care if the game featured multiple space wolves and it featured non-Fenrisians recruited as primaris marinesI don't know if the question was ever addressed as to whether Fenris actually has enough climatic or genetic diversity to have races corresponding to the original races of Earth. Knowing modern culture diktats, the answer is obviously "YES, everywhere is as diverse as the modern UK", but being completely fair and asking the question of writers in the 90s looking at this from a sci-fi perspective, what would they have said?Bear in mind, there's tens of thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of years of isolation that went into making the IRL races different, whereas 40k only has planets populated ~20,000 years at most (pre-imperium). Some planets could have had time-warp shenanigans during the pre-imperial dark age, but even then, divergence would be less likely to happen internal to the planets, but rather the planet's population would become distinct from the baseline human norm, especially if the planet had the culture and technology to allow intercontinental travel, as most would have.We know more or less that Fenris:>has no climate equivalent to Africa; the warmest regions are probably comparable to Canada (no idea about sunlight/UV protection)>has a small, low-turnover population for an Imperial planet, but a high population for its tech level>inter-continental travel exists because sailing is a huge part of their culture, even before the imperium>the planet might have started as a viking-werewolf theme park with genetic engineering (its inhabitants might be skewed towards viking-like workers, but presumably people from all over the human colonies visited and settled/were trapped during the DAOT)
