>>97358473So, what stops people from making stronger guns?Anon, guns scale off the strength of the material you make them out of. If your setting has swords strong enough to pierce the flesh of people with a high toughness stat, then they can make a gun and bullets that are even more effective.>TL;DR: Guns scale with Swords.
>>97358574Invisibility (toggleable), 1 trillion USD (provably legitimate)
>>97358609>Guns scale with SwordsKek, swordfags wrecked by facts and logic
>>97358609yeah I clarified this over here >>97358575it's just ultimately not worth it, each bullet would need to be made of that rare material and is one use only. much better to just fire arcane shots made of your own mana but at that point you can do it with a staff so why bother. basically it's just wildly ineffecient. you have to be an autistic weeb to make guns work and it has a social stigma of tryhards since kids will fantasize about John Wick action gunfu in my setting. "ugh, really?" or "what a waste of good ultratitanium..." will be the reaction of most people.imagine for a second that Adamantium or Orchalium or Mythril or whatever fantasy metal existed, and in order to fire it with a gun, you have to make it into a bullet. and then launch it. when the going rate for a brick of that raw mineral would be like 1000 gold or more. Or it can be a sword that never wears out, or a staff that lets you fire arcane blasts as a default action (not a spell, it's the mage's default attack with a staff that any magic class can use). and for thieves or sneaky dexterity types the loudness of a firearm typically isn't worth it, and using a suppressor also isn't worth it, unless you're a weeb assassin or something but even then you'd probably discard the gun and could just use a poison or dagger instead...>>97358633other way around, gunfags suck in any setting that respects a health and defense stat. btw, I haven't even explained the health stat yet, but having an HP bar is pretty convenient. no sudden dismemberment or puncturing an artery without a skill or specific effect. imagine not respecting defense. get FUKT gunfags. also, golems > drones, so get fukt again.
Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere. Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. >>97356817I figured as much. I heard someone trying to say it was to make it more in line with gamme world 4e, but that did not seem right when I looked at the preview. For tables, I have been suing some stuff from other games so far. The without number stuff has been ok. I usually work in and change the encounters around but keep some of the same beats. Looking more into apes victorious, it seems again to not really be in line with what I want either. The creatures of the tropical wastes thing looks pretty cool just for some extra jungle encounter ideas and plant mutations. You know of any good 3rd party stuff you recommend for it?
>>97357782Since you're porting stuff over, if I were you I would look into the Traveller rules for procedurally generating animals and convert them to GW/MF. They're meant for alien animals, but they should work alright for mutants, although they have no mutations of their own of course. You can then add mutations on top if you want to.
>>97357798I was actually thinking of using the re-release of those tmnt rpg rules for mutant animals and weird mutations. Traveler might be better just for general use though. Main issue is that the tmnt books are only available physically right now. How is After the Bomb or Mutants in the Now for that type of stuff? I know they are both the TMNT rpg with the license filed off.
>>97358117TMNT isn't something I've ever played or read, sorry. Perhaps someone else will chime in.
>>97356228>>97357782>>97358117If you're happy to look at third-party stuff not really intended for Mutant Future (I don't know how compatible they are as I've never read MF, but it's probably closer than TMNT, I should think) I would recommend that you take a look at Planet Algol, a defunct blog for a weird sword and planet game that has a lot of material that you might be able to use.>planetalgol.blogspot.com

Just out of curiosity after being a bit out of the loop for a handful of years, but is Ash still a huge dick? I remember him coming by my shop and being insufferable in how entitled he was and his "im actually a big deal" behaviour with strangers, plus how he manhandled his minis when filming emphasizing the lack of care he had for what he did
What's a good alternative to points costs for models, units, and wargear? 40k tried power level that failed, the current system is too blocky without having individual model or weapon costs, OG AoS had a system based on total wound count, but then you had things like 10 skavenslaves being equal in points to a dark elf dragon. Smaller games like Halo Flashpoint work on an equal total model count, but that mostly works because of the similarity of the single models. What are some other ways to balance different factions, units, and wargear? What steps can you take to make sure everything unit isn't taking every single upgrade available to them without having to resort to an in-depth points system?

5 person Level 5 party.
>>97356759>CR 2No one is facing those guys with Level 3 spell slots.
>>97358319OP said level 5 players, they have level 3 spell slots. And most modern DnD DMs only run one combat encounter per adventuring day anyway, so it's not like caster fags ever have to worry about actually running out of spell slots. (Most casterfags don't even keep track of their spell slots anyway.)Then again this all just circles back to the point >>97355007 made about DnD 5e/5.5e combat being an unfun tedious slog where any more than one combat encounter per session is honestly torture.
>>97358319In 5e, Mimics only have 58 HP. Fireball does an average of 30ish points of damage if I recall correctly. Two fireballs and everything in the encounter is dead except the ghost. >Look up Ghosts>They have even LESS HP somehow at 45, despite being double the CR of the Mimic.>No resistance to magical damage eitherOK, yeah, two fireballs just wipes the entire encounter. To say nothing for shit like Hypnotic Pattern that could lock down the entire encounter with ONE casting if the caster is lucky. Great game-design.

It is just that they are cunts with a sense of grandeur, wonder and genuine passion (their love for music and dance) that through the magic of White Wolf writing, is somehow completely absent from the Exalted. Should an elven wizard be more powerful on average than a human one? Explain your answer.
>>97358387classic noldorfagging strawman
>>97356728>CouldMaybe.>ShouldDepends on the system, but mostly on luck.>Explain your answerPretty sure that elves have some kind of learning disability to need to spend hundreds of years to learn the same thing humans can in a hundredth the time. So a headstart isn't going to mean much in terms of power overall.
>>97358443>Any that features the above settings or can run then in homebrewThey have very different rules for spellcasting, and different attributes being important. Like for instance, wisdom doesn't matter for D&D wizards (outside of saves), but it matters for channeling spells in Warhammer Fantasy. In this system anyway, elves can master any sphere of magic and learn High Magic, while human wizards are incapable of doing so.Let alone the difference in age and also powerlevels for characters.>>97358482>Pretty sure that elves have some kind of learning disability to need to spend hundreds of years to learn the same thing humans can in a hundredth the timeThat really isn't the case in any system or in any halfway serious setting.Elves being dumb children for hundreds of years is a shitty anime trope.
>>97358501>Elves being dumb children for hundreds of years is a shitty anime trope.Relax bro, just having a giggle since it's just a joke thread.Though I didn't even take that from anime, it's the bogstandard joke of how an elven adventurer starts at level 1 like everyone else despite an adult elf generally being in the triple digits for years lived compared to them, surprised you couldn't recognize it
>>97358643I never played an elf of such age, unless the system (and the GM) forced me to.You can play a 20-something elf just fine that also starts at level 1 as everyone else in many games.Furthermore, this logic doesn't work, never works, when said elf will level up as fast as everyone else, gain the equal amount of experience. And how dumb the thread is doesn't stop me from making regular, upfront posts about actual games stuff, if possible.>>97358501Also, since I'm familiar with WFRP more than anything else: you can't really say "it's largely the same" compared to anything else. Since elves in that system are not balanced to humans. The elfen wizard has a massive headstart in terms of spellcasting capabilities, and better stats in general. He will be a better fighter than the human wizard, faster and more agile, have more willpower, and even will be more charming. It really does depend on the system.
