I think it comes down to them not being able to handle fundamental role-play/ethos such as alignment. Their "Good" characters have always behaved far from it. They are just self-inserts.

All D&D characters are self inserts. That's the point of the game. You are a player, not the writer, and there's nothing wrong with that. In its proper definition too, and not merely being powerful, you pretentious twit.

Can't tell if you are trying to defend CR's collaborative storytelling (as opposed to a Role-playing game) or not. Seems like you want to have it both ways. Not surprised.

All magic is a metaphor or stand-in for the unknown; magic is a proxy by nature the same way religion is; but the unknown isn’t unnatural

It's just a world where the main form of energy is steam power, and you add in fantastical tech to go with it. Who is arguing that?

Opus Anima is by far the best and most original Steampunk game, I've come across.

Egypt counts man. Ethiopia also had some shit before they got kicked in the dick by their neighbours and never recovered properly. Now a lot of other Africans don't like them exactly because of their history, but that is besides the point.
>>

Egypt is a North African civilization and have more in common with Levantines and Berbers than with blacks.

Ethiopia is a good point though.

▶What is Kingdom Death?
Kingdom Death is a tabletop miniature brand stared by Adam Poots and operated by himself and his Team that later spun off into a miniature based bored game funded by two very successful Kickstarter campaigns.

▶What is Kingdom Death: Monster?
Monster is a Nightmare Horror cooperative boss battler/miniature hobby game for 1-4 players about hope in a strange world of bizarre monstrosities and perpetually darkness. Players take on the role of survivors that band together to form a settlement, fighting monsters, crafting weapons and gear, and developing their civilization to ensure survival from generation to generation.

Prologue Narration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNLc8dHv0Ac

The Game is broken up into 3 phases:
1. During your Hunt Phase your band of survivors traverse the world of KD in pursuit of their quarry.
2. After successfully tracking your quarry you will begin the Showdown Phase, where you must fell these horrific creatures in order to acquire precious resources.
3. After the battle, your survivors wander home with loot in hand to begin the Settlement Phase. Arm yourself by developing new weapons and bizarre structures to prepare for next year's hunt.

My perfect KDM mod:
>less hunts
>more crafts
>more split between character power and gear power (currently is like 5:95)
>More instadeath like the Murder settlement event, which is like, a whole event and a thing you play around, and less instadeath like any random hunt even "the moquito that bite you had supercancer. You died."
>more tits
>>
>>97276676
>the Murder settlement event, which is like, a whole event and a thing you play around
Can't really play around "flip the top card of the settlement event"; which I hate. On the other hand, I really like the murder event when they add it "1d5 years from now" and wish most instadeath events were similar (stuff like the kingsman curse or antelope aftermath)
>>
>>97276676
Murder i find objectionable because (iirc?) it targets your most experienced returning survivor? That's always a really fucking obnoxious kick in the balls.
I could deal with some random schmuck being done in just fine but the star hunter is annoying.

Assuming my memory isn't faulty we once had murder happen, the murderer got caught, and we got the option where they become the undisputed murder king (queen in that case) of the settlement. That was fun. But
>survivor with the most hunt xp dies.
Will never not be annoying.
>>
>>97277026
>>97276969
Yes the actual target of it is bad, and yes it's just a card flip.
And yes the "add event in x years" is awesome
But the first thing is just a balance thing, like it could be "the lowest XP kills the highest XP, add takes half his xp/split his xp between the other survivors that catch the murder" it can be made fine
and for being a card flip, I see it as a settlement inevitability, it has settlement consequences, even if it's a card flip, it's a thing that can happen and it's how that affects your settlement/story, and what they do about it, it leads to something, it's a storybuilding effect
I would be fine with a card that says "the oldest person over X hunt xp in the settlement, has died of old age", things happen, what does your settlement do about it
I wouldn't be fine with a random event saying "if you are old over X hunt xp you die"

I like Star Wars but all of the TV shows outside of the original Clone Wars and seasons 1-6 of the CG cartoon are just bad. Star Wars has so much media now but it’s just shit. What a cursed franchise. I’m trying to watch the Bad Batch and that’s all it is; a bad batch of episodes.

I am reading Dark Lord The Rise of Darth Vader and on the fourth part and it’s just boring now. I like the EU books but this one jus seemed like false advertising, people say it focuses too much on secondary characters but Vader is pretty much the secondary character and I have to slog through boring excerpts about literally who Jedi. I thought it would cover a series of great events early in his career and his philosophy on the dark side but it’s just this plot revolving around these stupid Jedi. Disappointed. What EU media can I read next to not feel disappointed? Or is there just some other fantasy that I am missing out on?

Anyone play it yet? I like the "rustic fantasy" setting. The core rules seem interesting, it has more mechanics and gameplay than most other narrative games. I enjoy that it doesn't have moves or whatever to confine you, you can actually play your character and do whatever you want. It's got enough knobs and options in terms of resolution I feel like it's actually a real game despite having that more story focus vs simulation focus. And I like that the DM has all the traditional power of the DM and there's not like "Fate Points" or something else that gives players control to change stuff.
Thinking I might try a short game for my table, just a few lower powered sessions. It also has good tools for a solo stuff which is interesting.
>>
I think it looks cool as fuck and want to GM it, but I'm waiting for them to properly finish the setting book first. They're still playtesting it.

I already bought both the core edition and ZAMANORA, which is supposedly compatible with it.

So, yeah, can't tell you anything about it other than I am also excited to try it out. Definitely the newest RPG that most caught my attention in the past couple years.
>>
I'd be willing to check it out. City of Mist got shilled a lot but that setting never appealed to me.
>>
As a player I found it confusing and scattered. Every character has different key words as stats, which makes it hard to know what to roll and when. Want to check if there is an ambush up ahead, should I roll using “never gives up” or “attention to details”. If you make a tag too specific you will never use it, too general and you use it for everything.

If you could choose the set of core classes (in the PHB/core book and ideally the rest of the classes are designed around them) what would you choose?
They don't have to be identical to their current incarnations.

For me its,
>Ranger,
absorbs a lot of the fighter but keeps the independent survivalist schtick.
>Paladin,
Divine warrior with special abilities but no spells
>Rogue,
Sneaky stabby martial, basically as he is now
>Wizard,
>Druid,
>Cleric,
Default to being lightly armoured wandering friar tuck type character, but with options to put on some armour and bonk.

Fighting person, Human
Some kind of religious practitioner, Human

both against inhumans like Elf, Dwarf, Demons.
inhumans are the only ones that can have spellcasting. Their spell casting should be divided between innate stuff and written stuff.
Humans killing the inhumans should be able to loot the written spells. Roll 10s every Day until eligible to learn. Spell tomes could contain upto 1d10 spells.

I hate spell casters so much it's unreal
>>

For years now, I've been trying to work an adventure fantasy game to my own taste; from mechanics I enjoy to inspirations I think are cool.
So of course I am working on a class system that at least references core classes in some regard, as a sort of love letter to their legacy; but the execution is quite different in practice.

To explain all of my plans would take multiple, full-character-limit posts, and hours to properly articulate, and even then there's no guarantee it will even be acknowledged beyond "tldr" or "just play vidya gaem", if at all.

But to answer the thread's topic directly, I have:
>artificer? I don't know if it counts to include this one, because they don't actually make anything, but they have that "magitechy" vibe; they use a weapon that morphs between gun mode and blade mode as the situation calls, and have powerful gravity spells
>barbarian that lifts field objects or enemies and bashes other enemies with them
>cleric & paladin rolled together in degrees depending on focus on armor, weaponry, miracles, and possible mount or squire
>druid chooses one beast to align to and wildshapes; no animal companions or wizard spells
>fighter chooses one weapon to master; their style varies based on chosen weapon and a supplementary ability
>ranger, with focus on making a useful animal companion through various synergies, choosing one animal to set the tone of the ranger's fighting style
>thief has rogue rolled into it, favoring not just sneak attacks and stealing, but being a good "enemy phase" reactive fighter
>wizard is rolled into sorcerer, but some spells are reduced in power or outright removed

Your mistake was thinking LLMs are trained on entire RPG books. They're just glorified Reddit referencing machines. They're trained on forums and articles referencing the rulebooks.
You'd need to hook up the LLM to actual rulebooks and pray it follows the rules.
>>
>>97276480
>the problem is that most natural caves are quite boring branching or even completely linear in layout

That's kind of a feature in this regard. Linearity is not always a constant enemy that needs to be defeated at every turn. It can be occasionally (and sparingly) an ally.

Natural caves with only a few chambers and only a few branching paths can be a quick and easy dungeon that can be tackled in less than a full session. They have a nice "stumbled upon" feeling to them that also feels organic, and their shortness/linearity can let you focus on dropping in some situations that you ordinarily wouldn't be able to, like monsters considerably stronger than normal that the players can try tackling relatively fresh and without having to worry about conserving their resources.

Dungeons should come in a variety of styles, and using natural caves as the "quick and nasty" type really suits them.
>>
>>97276791
I bet you could train a model just using Gygax's books and forum posts. You'd end up creating something terrible if you included Cyber Commando though.

I have no idea why the game publishers in general aren't investing in AI training. It's the next logical step for the industry. Man of tomorrow will not have friends nor will he want to interact with strangers online. Why not skip the human part entirely and have the player experience the games with AI companions and quest givers?

I think I'm too far on the opposite end, where I'm so abnormal I'll sit at a table by myself for hours just testing mechanics I'd enjoy in games, because I'm not going to ever get mechanics like those sitting with a group "game", and my friends aren't interested in tabletop games that aren't casual card games like UNO or Cards Against Humanity.
But you're so fucking right about being able to make time for something you love; most people just like to flake and make excuses. I get maybe two days to myself if I'm lucky, and I still find time to either develop mechanics or test them.

You should ALWAYS cheese every encounter. If you EVER end up in a situation that even remotely resembles a fair fight, just run away and wait until you can rig the situation to your favor.

Use your fucking brain. Even if it is highly improbable for you to lose a given fight, statistically speaking, you'll still eventually croak if you keep taking those bets. Don't leave it up to chance. It's easier than you might think, you just need to use your noggin. It's not a video game. You can do whatever the fuck you want.

Just the other night my party ran into a melee monster in a narrow ass room that they for some reason decided to ram their dicks into until someone died. When I suggested that we retreat for a bit and lure it into the room with the big ass statues so we can all just climb them and shoot it to death, they looked at me like I just escaped from the looney bin. They all died of course.
