Tabletop RPGs tend to split up crafting into a high number of crafting subskills for every individual area of expertise. There's no question that crafting is still extremely powerful despite forcing you to go through this hassle, but what are your thoughts on which particular crafting subskills tend to be the most useful in the context of a TTRPG campaign, be it a medieval or modern or sci-fi setting?

Pic related is from Legend of the Five Rings, where I'll be playing a crafter soon, and I intend to invest heavily into crafting. But feel free to talk about any game you've had experience with.

I doubt that.
>>

What's the issue? Instead of Acrobatics, you take a skill in crafting a certain item. Then you double your prof if you have proficiency in appropriate tools as well. If you have neither, you're not able to make a functional item, they will have at least two flaws. You can use Arcane for enchanting, but if you have proficiency on a homebrew "Evocation" skill, you can make a flaming sword with much lower risk of failure.

There's plenty of abilities that buff your brain like Sensory Arts and Mental Arts, both of which use Mental Energy (same as Illusion) flavourwise too so easily enough room to Sensor/Mental/Illusion max and fluff it as Full Genjutsu Support Man. Sounds neat.

GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.
Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.

A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image. Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.

If you're wondering where to start:
- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.
- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.
- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.
- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.

Thread question: what's the best classic GURPS cover art?

As an additional GURPS source, Pyramid 3/87 (page 17) gives slaves an approximate value of $21,000/slave, which is about $350/month by the "5 years of full time pay" metric.

This feels really expensive. I remember GURPS: Aztecs pricing it at:
>Household Slave: $1,000
>Without faults, able to sing and dance well: $4,000
And half that in the countryside.

I know /tg/ had a pretty active Space Station 13 community way back in the days of yore, and now that the open-source modernized Space Station 14 is coming along nicely i was wondering if there is a SS14 /tg/ community kicking around.
It would be fun to get stuck in with the old robust grey tide crowd again.

Otherwise, general Space station 13/14 thread i guess.

3.5e handled this by giving elves a bonus to Intelligence, which is truly WotC's official only trait that makes them stronger. At the heart of your post, yes. Yet this is all we got and now even the stat bonus for species has been removed.

Why do elves deserve to be better wizards? Because they are documented as getting their powers from years of study and hard work. A being that can live 5 times longer than a human has much more time to study and develop. If we were being real, there would be no comparison, although with a game interested in balance, they won't make a dichotomy that severe.
>>
>>97386643
Yeah elves sort of having to be balanced for game mechanics takes some of the lore away.
>>
>>97386798
Quite a bit in fact. I mean, not to get onto this topic, but look at people on Earth. We vary in size more than the race guidelines for character creation in the Player's Handbook does. Same with innate strength and intelligence. A species that lives an extra few centuries, be them elves or dwarves, would be incredibly different and diverse. It truly is balancing these factors that greatly takes away from what race differences could be.
>>
>>97386945
That's why level adjustment existed to balance some nonhuman PC's long ago, now gnomes run the same speed as goliaths.

The last “goblin” set that gave me anything neat was Modern Horizons and a few Jumpstart chase rares. You may not like us because we live under bridges and steal your dwarf children but we gobs are a proud people, we’re here to ruin the green and blue players day, does that make us THAT bad?

>>97285005
Because there's no reason to. The Napoleonic Wars are already interesting. Adding dragons doesn't do anything and would bring into question a lot of what people like about Napoleonic warfare (the infantry tactics and formations that are unlike any other period). If you're interested in the period, by a copy of The Campaigns of Napoleon (David G. Chandler) and The Peninsular War (Charles Esdaile), read them, then buy a copy of either Age of Eagles or Field of Glory Napoleonics and enough Perry or Victrix figures to make a brigade with a few battalions of infantry, a unit or two of cavalry, and some guns.

This thread made me wonder how a napoleonic version of Dishonored would look like. Thats a type of setting that i can see working, with less focus on open warfare and more focussed about urban stuff, the occult and the supernatural. Just not with a victorian steampunk coat, but a napoleonic one.

I gave it to them knowing it wasnt getting filled out or at the bare minimum, filled out wrong. Its more of a prop (also just funny because at the end of the day, we're just there to laugh and blow off steam). That said, if one wanted to read it a little closer than a glazed over skim, one might divine some key clues about the underworkings of Eastsand City and maybe some valuable clues....

I spent like 5~ish hours. I am loathe to admit that there was AI involved in the middle. Turns out if you want gobbledygook, its really good at it. I provide the base and main ideas, it spits out formatting and superflous words, then I go through it and heavily edit. I was only going to do the first section but some of the shit it spit out was so retarded I ended up seeing how deep the rabbit hole went.

>I treat AI, when it comes to ttrpg stuff, like a first year trade apprentice: it does all the bulk, stupid work that is a time sink like formatting, generating custom statblocks, etc while I abuse it verbally. Then, as the foreman, I tell it 'this sucks, do it again' and stand there like a hawk making sure details are right. My hands go where theyre needed most to tweak, edit, or add/remove anything that needs it. I still have oodles of sticky notes and long docs of ideas and plot points and in-world errata that is entire humanly-breathed.

Ideas for games, games you're currently making, updates to your own games in broad strokes, and any homebrewing for existing products that don't get much attention. Not a publisher per say, But if all you are looking for is printed material (rather than someone to sell them for you) I remember seeing a few online publishers that can cheaply print presized small books. Look for local family owned print shops too. Somewhere where you can actually talk to someone and they want your money.

and not
>I'm doing this because violence gives me the higher rolling number
but I think
>make situations that aren't best solved with violence the bread and butter of the game. Or give a similar bonus to other things outside of combat
Are my best options. The former should be fine because it's a game about getting tangled in the local affairs of wherever you end up at, and with the latter skills are freeform and give an equivalent bonus to the one you get from your weapon, but they can stack in theory so if you really wanted you could give yourself a combat background and stack it with the weapon bonus, but I suppose that's balanced by the fact you're specialising and giving up potential versatility elsewhere.

this is proving much more difficult of what I thought
testing the game further, I've come to a sad and worrisome realization
>COMBAT IS FUCKING BORING

it basically boils down to:
>pay to attack
>the attacker rolls dice equal to its Strength
>the defender rolls dice eqaul to its Strength
>5-6 cancels are successes
>successes cancel other successes
>uncancelled successes turn into damage

most of the time, a player attacks so nothing happens
essentially wasting a turn

By the way if anyone's wondering about the value of the new spearheads (calculations done in eurobucks):
>obr
2 sets of kavalos deathriders (2x51.50), terratic cohort (also 51.50) and the liege kavalos (50) make this a total of 204.5 yuros value, good for a 41.5% discount, which is I think the highest they've ever done. New idoneth one was close at 200. That being said, that only works if you value the terratic cohort at 51.50 euros (65 in burgerbucks), which ehhhh. The liege kavalos also feels pricey at 50. Still, great value box.
>tzeentch
2 sets of tzaangor enlightened (50 each), a shaman (32.50), and a standard box of tzaangors (45). 180.80 in total, so 33.6% discount. Not bad.
>loomies
51.50 for the wardens, same for the spirit of the wind, 57.50 for the windchargers, and finally 34.50 for the windmage. Evens out at a nice 195, 38.4% discount, another good one purely in terms of value.
So yeah when going off pricing alone these all look to be good discounts. Obr one is especially great on that front, though again, teratic cohort.

You could still use Raiders as Legionaries, I guess
I'm considering just using the regular Legionaries with powerpacks and helmets from tactical marines and scrapping all the chaos iconography

looks like Raiders kit will come with only 5 dudes (10 dudes in the battleforce but only 5 sculpts for bodies) so their point cost is almost certainly closer to chosen and other elite infantry models than to legionaries

They copied the vent pattern from the Mk.IV but the Mk.X's face is smooth and flat while the Mk.IV has a big hard-edged triangular snout sticking out of it which gives it a very different profile when viewed from anywhere other than direct front. Calling them "subtly different" is laughable.
