You should read FW black book Prospero if you want more lore, but not about webway war specifically.
The old visions of heresy artbook have some pages about it tho.

Every so often I ask my players if there are any kinds of adventures they want to do or sorts of situations they would like to be put into to play off of. Its how I strike a balance in the group to make sure everybody gets to have their bit of fun.

This time around, two different players put down 'hostage negotiation' and 'hostage crises'. But I'm having trouble coming up with a good way to do that.

This is a flintlock era adventure sort of deal, no magic on the table at all so bullshitium to force a contrivance is not an option. Obviously, most of our "hostage negotiation" tropes are based around police negotiating with some gunman making demands, but I just don't see how that realistically works in this scenario since not only do modern police not exist but what kind of demands could they even make that don't even with them shot anyway? With single-shot gunpowder weapons, if there are more guys outside than inside there's very little reason not to just storm the place, but also if the demands are met the guys is never getting out of there alive anyway. Its not like he can ask for an escape helicopter and fly away, at most he gets a horse.

So what occurs to me is that the hostage and hostage taker are in an unknown location and everything is being done by written correspondence, but I'm not sure how to make that particularly interesting as an adventure either. Like, what is there for the players to actually *do* in that situation?

Anyone have any good ideas for how to make this work that would actually be any fun to play?

This could be a nice twist, and the PCs would have to come out with a way to prove the hostage didn't die because of some fuck up of their own.

>>
>>97362819
It is. So far, I think that >>97362101
>>97362182
remains the most interesting option. Start off the session with half the team hostage and half the team not. Let them decide how they ended up in this situation in the first place, and then its up to them to resolve that. Give a ticking clock where if they don't resolve this quickly enough, a third party will get involved to exert their authority over the situation and if that happens a violent outcome becomes inevitable because the two players in custody are not *that* important.

I'm on the fence regarding whether there should be NPC hostages as well or not. Perhaps their actual assignment was to rescue someone who had already been taken captive and it went sideways and the two people that scouted ahead got captured.

I like scifi as a genre because all the new tech that show us, but in terms of aesthetics, always looks like shit.

Do you know any scifi RPG with good aesthetics? Even if it's just concepts, draws or artworks.

PD: If someone is going to say 40k, I admit it has cool things, but I don't find it pleasant.

What is "good aesthetics" to you?

Is it Star Wars or Star Trek?

Destiny or Warhammer 40.000?

Mass Effect or Starfield?

Dune or The Outer Worlds?

Titanfall or Starfinder? Avatar? Killzone?

You gotta give us something here, anon. Do you look for Science Fantasy? Sleek and modern? Realistic? Gritty? Over the top, stylized and exaggerated? Depending on your personal taste, each of these can either be visual Gigakino or total shit.

NTA and not that radical, but here are some roughly verified platitudes that might help:

That being said, does anyone know what RULES I should use for the actual skirmish? It's 38 Spanish, which is a mix of line infantry and guerillas and 27 French, which are mostly elite companies, ie. voltigeurs. Is this enough for a game of Sharpe Practice?

The Cynocephali (The Dog-Headed)
Based on the legends of St. Christopher and the accounts of Marco Polo.

Sub-Race: The Saint’s Kin (The Orthodox Variant).

Trait: Bark of the Word. Their barks can carry the weight of divine authority, capable of frightening demons or "howling" a prayer that bolsters allies.

Sub-Race: The Desert Raiders (The African Variant).

Trait: Carrion Sense. They can smell blood or decay from miles away, making them the ultimate bounty hunters of the Silk Road.

Social Status: In the East, they are seen as noble guardians. In the West, they are often caught in a theological debate: Do they have souls? If they can pray, the Church allows them; if they only howl, they are hunted.

Tabletop RPGs tend to split up crafting into a high number of crafting subskills for every individual area of expertise. There's no question that crafting is still extremely powerful despite forcing you to go through this hassle, but what are your thoughts on which particular crafting subskills tend to be the most useful in the context of a TTRPG campaign, be it a medieval or modern or sci-fi setting?

Pic related is from Legend of the Five Rings, where I'll be playing a crafter soon, and I intend to invest heavily into crafting. But feel free to talk about any game you've had experience with.

I'm playing in a D&D 3.5e table where one PC is a crafting specialist.

My money is on the Painted Tribe, Dancers. The others wouldn't survive long enough to become an actual threat or would otherwise be bound. Even then, the Pictii are a much broader threat and their rogues attract monsters like flies are attracted to a corpse..

Hm. I've passed on the information. Let's see if my friends have anything to say about it.

Probably smart, going by some files from an old caper, Wereblood is a nasty mix with Vampirism. Course it only mentions Aboms, Licks taking regular ass Wolfy vitae and assurances that it wouldn't mess with the boss' pet project that shouldn't be relevent here. Apparently nobody at this unethical pharaceutical/peteoluem shell company had the bright idea to see what drinking Abomination blood does. Or did and the fallout was so bad they scrubbed all records of the results. If that's the case, Boy Toy may get worse before he gets better. Assuming he doesn't split the difference.
How's his Aura look?
>>
>>97362385
>Boy Toy may get worse before he gets better.
It's why we all voted to get rid of all the abomination's vitae with the erythroexchange (hope I spelled that right, damn the Greeks) and plasma exchange, pretty much all the blood inside him is human now, and a couple drops from mom's foot, I guess. We gotta pay staff some extras this month.
>How's his Aura look?
I don't need an expert to know it looks like shit. Colors change between gray, green and brown, almost like a dancing camouflage paint really, and there's this like, inner layer, and it's orange and silver and black.
At least there ain't any black veins and for what's worth, the colors are still "vampire pale."
I asked my man if he's under some kind of transfixion or shit. He said: "I don't know."
Fucking hell.

Funny emoug, in his early drafts, Tolkiactually used the word "Gnome" to describe Elves, not Dwarves.

The "Wise" Gnomes: Tolkien liked the word because it sounds like the Greek gnome (intelligence/wisdom). In his early Book of Lost Tales, the Noldor (the most intellectual and craft-oriented Elves) were called "Gnomes." He eventually stopped using the word because popular folklore (influenced by 16th-century alchemy and Victorian garden gnomes) had turned "Gnomes" into small, earth-dwelling, often comical spirits.

In general folklore, the lines between dwarves, gnomes, and kobolds were very blurry. Both were earth-spirits who lived underground. However, Tolkien specifically moved his Dwarves away from the "gnome" archetype.

Almost every dwarf name in The Hobbit (Thorin, Fili, Kili, etc.) and even the name "Gandalf" was taken directly from a list called the Dvergatal (Catalogue of Dwarves) in the Old Norse poem Vöouspa. The idea of dwarves as master smiths living underground, associated with stone and mining, comes straight from the Norse dvergar. The "Greed", The "dragon-sickness" or obsession with gold mirrors the Norse dwarf Andvari, who guarded a cursed hoard.

What he invented (The "Modern" Dwarf):

Tolkien gave them a secret language (Khuzdul) and a deep internal history. He famously compared the Dwarves' history dispossessed of their homeland and wandering among other nations to that of the Jewish people, which added a layer of solemnity and tragedy not found in most folklore. Before Tolkien, dwarves were often portrayed as ugly, maggot-like, or purely mischievous. Tolkien made them brawny, honorable, and formidable warriors. He intentionally used "Dwarves" (plural) and "Dwarvish" instead of the then-standard "Dwarfs" to distinguish his "elder race" from the "dwarfs" of nursery tales and Snow White.
