I need some help with the details of a game I'm planning. Tzeentch, got bored and decided to mess with some noble that collects art. After messing with his head through nightmares about his family selling his stuff after he dies the noble gets terrified about what will happen to his collection and decides the best way to keep it safe forever is to find someone who will care about it as much as he does. At a party he over hears someone from a different world talk about how Trazyn the Infinite stole some relics from their estate. Thinking that Trazyn is a collector like himself the noble decides to find him and donate his collection so it will stay safe from his family. That's a quick summery of what I want to start with. Ignoring the ordeal of getting to him and the shock of finding out that Trazyn is a Necron, what would Trazyn do if the noble actually got to him and showed off his large collection of art? And what would he want to keep? Is there a particular kind of human artifact he would be interested in? Rarity, age, what would he care about?
>>97392355AGP was an incredibly long-running greentext saga about a party of Dark Heresy players who were all former Imperial Guard, the Hammer of the Emperor, and thus treated every inquisitorial problem like a nail. In fairness, this usually got them out of as much trouble as it got them into.
>>97366886What's up gangHow difficult would you say Dark Heresy 2e is to learn for a GM and to teach new players? I have experience running DND 5e, some 3.5e, Blades in The Dark and a bunch of small OSR games.
>>97391846I don't care much about Gathering Storm either way - I generally prefer the setting to be static, but if the Rift fits my campaign I do include in, and if it doesn't I don't.I do hate the idea of Primarchs returning though>>97393520You should be fine, just read the book a few times and make notes of most important things. WH systems have fairly simple, instinctive and consistent core mechanics and lots of tiny rules and systems that build up on top of them - so there's plenty to remember, but it's all fairly easy to understand and it shouldn't fall apart if you just forget or omit a rule or two. Explaining the bare minimum they need to start playing to newbies shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes and then you can introduce new rules and concepts on a need to know basis.
>>97390956>the entrenchment of what counts as "real" 40k has gotten REALLY badI try not to be too much of a stick-in-the-mud about it, but all too often if feels like someone's telling me about their hilariously epic LotR game where they met Tom Bombadil singing karaoke in a goblin brothel.

Would people be able to tell your character is a "tough guy" just from first glance?
Yes.
>>97389925Depends on the DM. Some DMs have NPCs act appropiately to your characters appearance, (fear, negotiation, falling back and getting re-inforcements, surrender, hiding and avoidance, etc) while some DMs take the Fallout route, having two unarmoured 1st level mooks armed with sticks trying to take on your huge heavily armed and armoured character and escorting retinue, because the stupid module they are running says so.
>>97389925if your characters looks aren't inherently deceiving that's a NGMI
>>97389925Haha, no. He looks like some Shoujo femboy. About the only threatening thing about him is his height- he's over six feet tall. And considering he talks like a bored nerd that doesn't really connect with normal people, it's not like talking to him feels all that threatening either.

>>97387676To me they resemble the 1906 versions, the ones with the big eyes, so that could make sense.Alternatively, it could be entirely mechanical but still acting wild because the first layer is a weird place.
>>97387676>Are tripods technology or living beings?I feel like Hyperborea tends to blur that particular line quite a lot.
Finally got my Friends to pick up TTS over the steam sale. Going to give them a gothrough of Agartha when I can get the time. A few of them played a couple of years ago before jamboard died but things have changed so much that we'll all be relearning a fair amount of stuff. It is somewhat odd to realize that there are now old players who have to be caught up with rules changes. Actual factual Agarthan Grogs, of a sort.
>>97163858>Jules Verne-inspired retro-futurist, underground blood soaked soulslike roguelite kafkaesque milsim immersive plug and play comfy sandbox adventurescapeYou really make it sound very unappealing and low effort.

Haven't played in a year or more, and been on and off in the threads. Too many story ideas, not enough actual writing. Would be up for a game sometime soon though.
>gameplayFor Centaurs, you should be able to use them as mounts when not in combat if they're lightly armed & armored. I think you could ride into battle with them and fight on their back without overburdening them, depending on your loadout. Squeezing into dungeons and caves might be a bit of a bitch, and your centaur companion may find themselves too cumbersome to accompany you in certain locations. If people in wheelchairs can make do, I'm sure a transmog potion or a shrinking potion might solve the problem.>fantasy settingsThey're more at home here for sure, like having a horse. Some taverns may give you a hard "no" for your centaur companion, but I'm sure regions that are steeped in centaur culture or adjacent ones have accommodations for their unique anatomy. If nothing else, they could help carry your camp supplies and other provisions. >loadouts for fantasyIf you're not riding them, I think they can be pretty well armed and armored- think tower shield and a mace/flail. They also make good spearmen, so I think they'd be comfortable wielding a halbard and similar pike-style weapons. This would be with them wearing plate mail cuirass for the human portion and chainmail curtain over their horse hind quarters, or perhaps some specially fitted Gambeson. Other plate sections could be fitted to their horse body as needed. Archery and crossbows seem like they'd work for ranged options. I've not considered them using magic, but having a fairly mobile spellcaster seems cool as well.
There's no horsing around in this thread.
>>97297832>>97293635this character has done irreversible damage to my standards back thenrelated to the thread, anyone can recommend centaur minis? classic greek or generic fantasy themed and preferably physical not stl
>>97385314You can search for 3-D print models. Centaurs are a little goofy anatomy wise so I wouldn't expect to find them in a regular store that pumps out mass-marketed stuff.
>>97392367>3-D print modelsI know, but I don't have a printer, it would be a last resort. Also I was hoping for recommendations from people who might have found the better ones alreadyI did just find that apparently northstar will release new models to support Warriors of Athena or something
>>97385314classic greek or even thracian would be a lovely sight, all I can propose are some Age of Sigmar models, which while not exactly classicalhorselike, are pretty good quality sculpts. Planning to get myself that Belakor's Chosen chaos gladiator centaur dude

>>97337142Foul Spawn/Hell Spawn are an interesting monster race given that they have multiple forms similar to insect races, but they have no societal structure and their forms are randomly determined rather than inherited. A race originally created by blood magic which then proliferated beyond its creators is a surprisingly underexplored concept in fantasy (mostly due to moral implications), given that Tolkien's Orcs are analogous to that concept.

>>97393267Lookshy is a large city-state, anon. 109K is a large city in the Age of Sorrows - not one of the largest, but sgain, it's in the fucking trees. A city with 100000 inhabitants up in the trees is one hell of an achievement. Halta as a whole would still have a couple of million inhabitants, making it a large nation by most standards save for those of the Realm. I think that you considering a totsl population of, what, 2-3 million and a capital city of 100000 inhabitants unimpressive shows just how completrly the lsughably bloated numbers in Kingdom of Halta have fucked up your perspective. In a world with the technological level of Creation, those numbers would make for a fairly important regional power even if we were talking about a more conventional ground-dwelling civilization that has an easier time with agriculture and travel. For a tree-dwelling civilization those numbers are all the more impressive. For Chanta, specifically, 100K is pretty much exactly where I'd want its population to be - it'd be a major city, it'd obviously tske some suspension of disbelief to buy it, but in a world as magical as Creation I could manage that degree of suspension of disbelief.
>>97393370You're underestimating Creation. You completely disregarded the numbers I pulled for Kirighast (Houses of the Bullgod pg16&19) and Whitewall (Bastions of the North pg12) and the numbers you are pulling out are entirely out of your ass rather than being based on anything you found by looking in the goddamn books. What you're describing is roughly the population of the Haslanti League. Maybe if Halta was some podunk nothingburger tree-nation of anarcho-primitivists with a couple of cities and zero towns or connecting infrastructure you'd be right, but it's not, so you're not. Even your precious Scavenger Sons tells us it's a marvel of the world with many cities and towns, excellent engineering, and a sophisticated social structure that simply would not be possible if it were as tiny as you say seems right in your head. What you want doesn't fit the setting.
>>97393523What I want definitely fits the setting. Whitewall's one of the major powers of the North and one of the great cities of Creation - it being bigger than Chanta, but not bigger than Halta as a whole, doesn't seem like a problem on any level. Neither does Halta having population comparable to the Haslanti League. In fact, Halta and the Haslanti having comparable numbers seems just about right to me. Both are big deals in their parts of the world but not Direction-wide, and both are advanced civilizations thriving in conditions where one generally wouldn't expect civilization to thrive. Them being roughly equally populous and powerful is fine. As for Kirighast, I didn't address it because I didn't feel like complaining about another nation's numbers. I'll just say that Halta's not the only instance of WW writers showing poor sense of scale and absolutely no consideration for the fact that Creation's not the 21st century world. East generally has pretty sensible population numbers, though, with Great Forks being a big deal with its three quarters of a million inhabitants and so on. Linowan, too, are perfectly sensible, with population of Rubylak being counted in tens of thousands rather than hundreds of thousands. Halta in 1E and 2E is grossly out of scale with its surroundings, and what I'm suggesting would make it a better fit, not a worse one, for the rest of the East.
>>97393576>Both are big deals in their parts of the world but not Direction-wide>The Haslanti League and Halta
>>97393584Yes, anon. Haslanti's fuckhuge area-wise and respectable population-wise, it's got major cities, it's technologically advanced, it might not matter that much to be a big deal in that part of the world because Far North doesn't have that much going on, but it's still a big deal. Haslanti are also more active and therefore more have more of an impact outside their own borders than the Haltan are.
Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere. Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started.
