When running Curse of Strahd, my players (or at least the face) had thought Strahd to be misunderstood, especially after hearing about his curse.
I thought that was well and good, but Strahd is a motherfucker, and I intended to make that clear. So during the dinner party, he had a charmed Milivoj and Father Lucian come out. (If you don't know, Milivoj stole some bones from a cathedral that Strahd couldn't enter cause of said bones. The only person that knows of the theft of the bones is Father Lucian of the cathedral.)
Strahd told the party that he was a fair and just man and asked if they believed the law as something to always be followed. They agreed, and Strahd was only happy to hear that, since he decided that since the party was such a paragon of law and order, they should decide the fates of Lucian and Milivoj. Lucian's crime was being complicit in endangering the lives of the Vallakians by not bringing up Milivoj's theft of the bones, and Milivoj's crime was stealing the bones. Because the way Vallaki is, they'd be put to death either way, so he tasked the players with deciding who should be punished.
Milivoj was chosen, and Strahd had him bow his head at an altar so that they (he and his brides) could slit his throat and drink straight from the source while the party watched. (At that point, Father Lucian had been uncharmed so he could watch too.)
It made for a very establishing moment, and led to the party rethinking their strategy of how they were going about in Barovia.

There's certainly something wrong with people who just don't care, spiritual or otherwise. It's one thing to be tricked by AI, since certain aspects have gotten so much better, but I keep encountering people who just don't give a fuck. They don't care if something is real or not or if a real person created it. They cannot intellectually process anything beyond the surface level. If it looked okay enough and amused them for 2 seconds, then there's no point in caring if some streetshitter mass produces a billion things just like it every day. They don't even care that they're getting ripped off, let alone understanding why anyone cares if a real artist or writer was paid to make something.
>>
>>97259073
Yeah. Also can't believe I'm gonna bat for 2hufag, but there's something else you missed.
The average LLM (I'm sure you COULD find an example of one that isn't like this) will write like it's two steps away from giving you a handjob just to make sure you have a nice day, and will back down and "admit it was wrong" if pressed in the right way, even when it's right.

If you take chatgpt and ask it to explain what a "wizard" is in D&D terms, and then repeatedly say
>No, you're wrong. Wizards can draw from multiple sources of power. Give me examples.
a few times, it will probably give up and agree with you because they've been built to be people-pleasers.

Meanwhile if 2hu thinks he's right, he will plant himself like a tree next to the river of autism and say
>No, you move.
>>
>>97260077
I'll admit that it started life as a D&D setting because that's what we were playing back in undergrad, but the issue isn't solely my inability to prompt. I periodically test things by going to AI art spaces and asking for help prompting the races. The goal is never to gotcha the prompters, just to check if the models are there yet. One of the recent things I was told to try was feeding the reference pieces into an AI to have it describe the image in prompt form, but feeding that back into an AI still missed a number of key physical features of every race I tried it with.

The four races I usually test are described here: https://files.catbox.moe/lu7n9o.pdf

Typically, AI generation will result in the loss or distortion of features like:
>bhedmi
>>skin lichen
>>horn and fingernail stone texture
>>extension of the mane onto and across the neck
>>symbiotic mane vegetation
>nasim
>>fulgridermis
>>nose and ear shapes
>>palm pads and finger webbing

I kept the same gear through my entire campaign from a sorcerer's slave to being a powerful conquering sorcerer himself, a red silk cloak & a sword, though not the same sword. Im out of my depth here

TL;DR Im trying to learn how to run a setting I have no experience with. Looking for setting influence.

-

I would like some help with this concept, post apocalyptic science fantasy. The idea that the world was propelled forward by magic tremendously, but then cataclysmic events reset civilization, and now were living in the post era.

Im used to running Sci-Fi, Cyberpunk, Shadowrun, Lancer, but this new group has requested me to run fantasy for them.

I agreed, but I told them I wanted to draw from influences that im familiar with, the closest comparison I can think of is the Televison Show Adventure Time where there was technology and then a fall, and now we have magic and some science tech. Disparate cities and no main governing body.

-

So, im looking to add to my influence, are there any pre existing settings ? Are there any fun things you've ever wanted to do along these lines ?

it's a difficult game to run. I am glad I know a guy who can hold most of a century of european history and politics in his head to the level of granularity required to run a long-term campaign, adapting what happens in response to both the setting's own magical bullshit and the multiple player groups going at the same time in his campaigns.

It's hard not to fall in love with it despite and sometimes because of its jank.
There are two kinds of roll - normal and stress. Stress means the situation is unpredictable, like a fight. With a stress roll, the fairly high rate of *checking* for a critical success or failure means that you get swingy moments where all the planning in the world can't help you... or where you survive against impossible odds because you lucked out or the other guy botched.
In a lot of games, I would hate having a 1/10 chance for an important roll to botch (or crit) but in Ars, you take it in your stride. It helps that not every botch botches and not every crit crits.

>roll a 1 on d10
>ok roll again and double the die result, treating 0 as 10
>this means that a potential "crit" could be a 1 followed by a 2-5, resulting in a die roll within the normal d10 results range
>rolling another 1 means you roll again and double double it. But even then, a 1-1-2 means you just got the casino hype moment and then rolled an 8 where you could've rolled a 40

>roll a 0 on d10
>If you don't botch, you just rolled a zero (plus stat and skill and mods)
>But first, check for botch. Ask the GM "how many" and roll that many d10. Each one that shows a 0 is a degree of botchitude

Roleplaying is playing a role. If you are just trying to predict what a person would do, you're not really roleplaying. We both know you aren't dispassionately making predictions about the actions of a hypothetical woman. You're imagining yourself in women's clothes and even putting on a high pitched voice while flirting with your fat, hairy friends

No I'm not. I meet up with a group of men weekly, where I am directed by a rotund gentleman to mathematically determine the most likely actions of a fictional woman borne of asexual dream alchemy. I do this, not for pleasure, but because this make believe woman needs a cosmic puppeteer, dammit. I am her guardian angel, not the lace-bedecked beauty herself. Not the chocolate skinned brewer of bubbly farts (not my fetish. Hers. I am not her). I merely let her walk the streets of my hometown clad in my flesh, that is, in turn, clad in as close an approximation of her imagined outfit as I can bungle together. I am not her.

Does anyone have a scan for Spire of Primus yet?
>>
In Warcry, if an ability says it "increases the Damage characteristic" does that mean both the regular and the critical damage, or just the first value?

Probably give it another week or two. It took a while for us to get a Bastions of Law scan as well.

Good to know, thanks

Damage and critical damage are treated separately, unless mentioned otherwise.

The Timars can be broken up into four different Aristocratic subcultures, reflecting the influence of their frequently khaffiri neighbors:
>The Lions of Ali: in the dark boreal abode of the Elves, the Timars stubbornly held onto their power with the help of local Sheiks and Emirs. Now there's an independent Emirate sitting in what was the northern frontier, backing an off branch of the ruling dynasty. They use gifts from the Elves as mounts. They've also been declared the ultimate apostates by the Ulama as they're Shiites!
>The Islamic Cult: the fetish cults of the tribals have attained a syncretism with Islam which the Timars have taken to like flies to shit. Timarots assigned to the Veldt had adopted aspects of the local culture long before the great plague so going native wasn't much of a problem for them, even with African insanity. Despite having lax rules on intoxicants, they're pretty nasty slavers. They use ants as mounts.
>The Jackals: Timarots driven to raiding in the deep desert. These bandits attack merchant caravans and raid oasis cities for money. Jackals use everything from lizards to stink beetles to even those sand ships from Avatar the Last Airbender as mounts. They're devout Muslims, ironically enough, and respect the Hajj. Notorious raiders by honorable in a fucked-up Afghani kind of way.
>The Outremer: these guys went completely rogue and declared fealty to the kings and queens of the Holy League. They use the terror birds as mounts but really don't trust those fucking things, so they improvise. They're essentially Christianized Arabs and have great disdain for their former brethren, particularly over how they treat women. The Ulama considers them a secondary concern when compared to the Lions.

Holy fuck. The mere mention of the ultimate heresy is enough for Allah to damn your soul. Damn son.

No Shia, no African Islam, no fallen nobles turned bandits, no Christianized Arabs. No cave lizard, terror bird, or ant mounts. Ouch. There's still lots of possibilities though:
>Sufism: that might have made it through with the Mamluks. A dervish was traveling with them and ended up stuck here. They're periodically purged by the Ulama who dislikes their relatively lax interpretation of God.
>The Cult of the Supreme Creator: African cultures typically held that the world was created by one being. This idea became widespread in areas outside of the abode.
>The Timars failed to gain independence, but they took up important positions among the Emirates. Many Pashas are loyal to the Emirs and that puts pressure on the Janissaries.
>Muslims were very resistive to foreign missionaries. Even during the Crusades, which has left the number of apostates relatively negligible among the high born.
>Ironically, many 'prey' animals were immune to lycanthropy which seemed to target predatory animals en masse. Bison, Goats, Rams, Lamas, and even Elephants are still used as beasts of burden by humanity.

Some anons tried to expand on this. I'll ad my own spin:
>Lycanthropy gets less and less infectious, to the point where it's nonexistent, the farther you get away from Mammals. For example: Amphibians and Insects are atypically not labeled 'beasts' and have very little in common with human biology, so they're completely safe. Octopi, Squid, Snails, numerous invertebrates are also safe to be around. Reptiles and fish are hit and miss, with Sharks the most potent carriers of both kingdoms while some lizards like the Iguana and the Bearded Dragon are pretty safe to be around. Birds were able to avoid infection due to being both genetically distant, and the ability to easily flee from lycanthropic monsters.
>Among mammals, smaller docile creatures like the fox and the porcupine survived and even prospered as hunting dogs were exterminated by paranoid humans. Humans are using more and more traps to fight off invasive hordes of rabbits, badgers, weasels, foxes, and now raccoons. Geographically, the biospheres look like this:
>Caliphate: Insects and Lizards prosper. Birds of Prey are the big cheese. Locusts have a lack of natural predators so they're increasingly becoming a menace to all kingdoms.
>Holy League: smaller mammals are prevalent. There's a big rabbit infestation right now. A lot of seaborne mammals call the southern coastline home.
>Elf land: docile bison and yaks are prevalent, arctic birds like puffins and arctic eagle are the dominant predators. Elves like to introduce terrible creatures from the planes.
