Regarding life in the Imperium of Man, is there any way to have pleasant, comfy lifestyle, for your regular menial? Or do you need to be at least born noble? Looking for best storyline where somebody who could be happy and content gets their whole life torn down and has to suffer like your avarage underhive scum.

Oh that's easy. Have a planet be forgotten by Administratum for centuries then someone remembers they exist and demands all the overdue tithes with interest. The planet turns into an unlivable hell and your character takes whatever plot hook they can to escape that.

There are a lot of ways to have a shitty life in 40k, like a war starts a few light years from your planet and now its resources are siphoned away as war effort. Or some distant relative is caught in a pleasure cult and now the inquisition is fucking with everything even if it doesn't make sense.

I think Decision space talked a bit about it recently. Basically exactly what I assumed; interesting theme, neat idea, mostly just ok gameplay that takes too long overall. I confess I haven't looked deeper though and Decision space doesn't always reflect reality even if their takes are very well explained

>Halflings to do the farming
>Dwarves to do the smithing and mining
>Gnomes to do the researching
>Elves to do magic
>Humans to do the fighting (and thus, the ruling)
This seems the obvious perfect order to things. Humans don't want to be the peasant farmers, we want to be the knights and lords, but somebody has to farm, somebody has to smith, etc. Why not have the other races do the menial peasant stuff that they specialize in anyways?

So 80-90% of the population is halflings? Because that’s the percentage who are farmers. Makes more sense halflings are a servant class, as they are excellent cooks and gardeners, the hard work of plowing the fields is best left to men. Men can also be the warrior class, as hardy peasant boys are good stock to make soldiers.

If the DCs on higher level monsters and how casters fail way too much (most of the time) are things that have been complained about since forever, it's not a question of "luck". Overall the math is designed to rather consistently screw over players and specifically casters.
>>
>>97251022
I just don't really enjoy that offensive caster gameplay when fighting higher level enemies is to basically waste a turn and a spell fishing for a 30% chance that your spell will actually do something besides mildly debuff an enemy for 1 turn or do nothing at all if they crit succeed.

But this is why our usual GM likes PF2 more than PF1. He likes designing very challenging encounters and the idea of a player caster turning the tide of a difficult fight doesn't sit well with him.
>>
>>97251022
The equivalent situation, of a 9th-Level Witch vs. a 12th-Level Spellcaster, would not be that different in 1e. Even worse, as all arcane casters take a -4 penalty to the saving throw against Feeblemind. In a charitable situation, where the boss have no buffs and only 21 DC, vs. a Witch with Heroism and not using an arcane list and a +4 to WIS, still would be about a 65% chance of saving and not becoming a walking onahole (assuming no Spell Resistance)?
I don't think you are wrong about the math being slanted towards the GM and this punishes casters. But normally this discussion is about FIGHTING the boss, not being hit by them. Especially someone that is supposed to be hard. If you don't like the game being hard, then ask the GM to tune down the foes numbers, slap the Weak tag and call it a day. Again, that DC32 is the HIGH, not *STANDARD* DC for a Level 12 creature anyway, it would be DC29 if it was moderate. So this is all an atypical scenario that any real math criticism wouldn't help.

>>97251150
I respect that stance, though I can say that using an Incap spell when you have a distinct advantage like that is still a dick move. Least with no real heads up in the dungeon, that curses and the like that can fuck you over are all ready.
It is fair to not like PF2e for catering to that thinking, but you can at least tell him to knock it off, there are better challenges than making the caster permanently retarded.
>>
I don't know if this is a 2e thing or just my group thing but it feels like I'm the only one with working brain cells and can understand tactics. If I have to miss a session, suddenly that session becomes super deadly. If anyone else misses, the session is fine. I do play a lot of martials so losing a frontline can hurt but i also play in groups of 5-6 pcs. So it shouldn't hurt to lose one frontline. We also mainly play APs so it's not like the GM is making deadly encounters. But even still, a lot of the time I am soloing half the encounters while the rest of the party is struggling with the other half. Now i'm wondering if this is a normal sight or is my group just outliers?

Same. At the end of the day, it legitimately doesn't matter whether or not the stories were fake, considering there's next to no way to verify whether they were real or not anyways. But I find the screeching about sharing stories over their "quality" just fucking sad. Making some spells for fun. Do you guys think this is balanced for 7th level?
>>
my players say they love my campaign but im fucking tired it just feels like im trying to do something and never quite getting there and i dont wanna prep or at least not games i wanna imagine something else making encounters plots etc or just restart the same campaign with new players to perfect it further but not have to deal with the actual game at the same time i just wanna improv and go with the flow and see where things land but these idiots always have the dumbest ideas too and there's clearly a "that guy" that I should kick but he has never really done anything wrong he's just cognitively limited and i also wanna read more inspiration material i have every single pathfinder pdf on my phone but then i never do

does anyone know this feel is anyone actually happy being a dm? why do i suffer all this doubt for some crumbs of appreciation? im a pretend normie with a faang job no sleep no wife and on top of that i run 2 campaigns and it's the best and worst thing at the same time

i guess my question is can dnd bring happiness? or am i just coping that im accomplishing something. i guess coming up with a cool encounter or npc or item idea is fun once in a while
>>
>>97254605
Hmm, need's a material component. Like the heart of a magma mephit or something like that.
>>
>>97254798
I'm incredibly happy as a DM.

Conversely, I am also a player in another game and am unsatisfied with the DM in that game. I mostly just stay for the camraderie and all the bsing while not playing. But that's neither here nor there.

In my experience, people's contentment is not the product of one thing, it's everything. Like Alan Watts once said, "The only zen you'll find at the top of a mountain is the zen you bring up there with you."
Try working on yourself, irrespective of whether you continue your campaigns. Hit the gym, fix your nutrition, and focus on yourself.
>>
>>97254798
DMing is not the magic bullet you are looking for to make you happy. No such bullet exists. If you enjoy DMing, then find your enjoyment in that. If you don't, talk to your players and see if one of your players would be interested in running a game, either as a break or longer-term if you don't feel like you'd enjoy going back to it.

Being a DM isn't going to fix not having a wife, a good sleep schedule, or a fulfilling job. If those are things you think need fixing, do what you can to make those things happen. I'd start with the sleep thing first. Fixing those also isn't going to make you happy by themselves but you can derive happiness from them if you put yourself into the mindset to do so.

Why did GW make them chicken nuggets instead of just putting the crotch at the knee like real life exoskeletons?

This was one of the more interesting and amusing things in Interspecies Reviewers. Elves actually enjoyed being with humans, but only if they were older, like 50 or 80 years old. Older the better, usually. This was due to elves (and other magically inclined races) being able to immediately tell a person's mana, which apparently has a sort of taste to it.

This is inverted for humans, who are essentially "mana-blind". Cue many situations where the human reviewer goes after very old elves and has a good time, but everyone else is absolutely fucking disgusted by it because an old elf's mana is very gross.

It's even funnier in the light novels since everyone always assumes Deedlit is a child of about 12 from a distance until they see her elf ears.
So she's canonically a loli baba.

>The idea that she could treat it like a brawl was foreign to her.
I choose this interpretation because it's kino. Reminds me of how in the Princess Bride novel, it's revealed that Inigo Montoya's last and best fencing master was an alcoholic Scotsman who taught him the most important lessons-- how to apply his fancy dueling techniques in a real-world context, and survive an actual fight even after things start going wrong.
>>
>>97253352
That still makes no sense because it doesn't matter what fucking martial arts style you use if someone can *see the fucking future*. Jedi "danger sense" has been shown to warn them of everything from general hostility from a crowd to a concealed ambushes to people walking up behind them to shank them with a vibroknife, why the fuck would it suddenly stop functioning just because the specific form of attack that's coming is a suckerpunch?
>>
>>97253235
Charitably, you could read it as Boba being the biggest Jedi killer in the galaxy who's still alive at that point. General Grievous and Grandpa Anakin aren't really options.
>>
>>97254921
Again though, that makes no sense because we're talking about Jaina fucking Solo, the Sword of the Jedi, a veteran fighter who's spent most of her young life at war against bondage aliens who fight hand-to-hand with living weapons that can randomly turn into fucking snakes that try to bite you. The notion that she's naive and focused to her detriment on "Jedi duelling" or whatever is farcical, and Traviss framing her that way was exclusively down to her desperate need to wank Mandos and shit on Jedi.

Hey AT anon, what would you recommend getting for Titanicus after the starter box/faction book? Or just what you think is cool
>>
>>97254879
A warlord. You'll immediately have a full axiom maniple with a knight pair, that's about 1800 points depending on the loadout. Make sure to magnetize the warlord. That'll give you an average point army with a few maniple options.
>>
>>97254914
Thanks anon, I did think warlords are sick so was debating it already so that’s good, will of course wait to see if me and my brother enjoy it before diving further
>>
>>97254914
What if I want to play true messengers and I'm a masochist with too much money? I presume 3 warlords and 2 warhounds would be too much for the average game size, but what could I fit in alongside the maximum number of viable warlords (I love warlords)
>>
>>97254936
No waiting. Purchase the models.
>>97254938
Average game size is 1750-ish to 2000-ish. You can have 3 warlords and 2 dogs at 1900-2000-ish. The extermigus maniple is 3 warlords too so you can have 3 of them at 1500 points, even, though they'd be alone.
This is a casual game and the average points size really depends on your community.
