I'm an mma athlete and its even worse in this side of the world. 25 years ago I would unironically be a serious international lightweight fighter, if not world champion. Fuck it, even welterweight. Today I am a mid tier amateur. 18 years old kids have so much skill and resources now to be a threat 10 years ago.
All that because we had the past masters to copy and learn from. We stand on the shoulder of giants.
Its the same with painting. We can all be golden daemon winners with what we paint, but we would never reach this level without the innovations and lessons of those who came before us, and whom we surpassed.

Humans in much of fiction come off frequently as simultaneously inexperienced yet still fairly competent, which allows them to be destructively self centered/shortsighted with an inferiority/superiority complex. They are like the poster child for the newcomer race who will go and do something monumentally stupid in the name of short term gains even if it ultimately fucks everyone over including themselves.

Why is there so much whinging about 'No Games' on this board? I understand that those who come here solely with the intention of discussing tropes and the like can be frustrating to deal with, but there seem to be some folks here who make it their mission to drop bursts of negativity in threads they should've known would enrage them. And even in these threads that hold more general discussion, I don't see how nearly all of them are not at least tangentially related to traditional gaming.

This lump of retardation is good example of nogames. Anyone who plays tabletop games or even just has a understands of the hobby knows that gatekeeping is not something that can be done. When all you need to play something like D&D is the game books (PDFs) and at least one other person to play with you can't really stop someone from being a part of the hobby.

i dunno what's going on with this Reddit/Puck stuff.

but to answer the question, look at Gumshoe and the whole Three Clue Rule thing (The Alexandrian has a good article).

or for keeping track of movings and shakings in e.g. a medieval fantasy or space travel campaign, check the faction rules in Kevin Crawford's games.
>>
>>97404693
A friend had way too many players wanting to get in a game so he decided to do a court thing. All the PCs had important positions and personal agendas. The real kicker was that only the GM knew what everybody actually wanted, so there was a very cool sense of actual paranoia. In the end, my character and his brother ended up simultaneously poisoning each other at a feast due to an argument over succession rights. Turns out we had come up with the exact same plot and thought it was too smart for anyone to figure out

Rule 1: In order to become canonical each post has to pick up something that has already been established by someone else and build on it. Only in this way can something new be added.

Rule 2: Keep it within reason and don't break the immersion for everyone else.

Rule 3: Have fun.

Starting with a rough premise to set the tone:
>Players are bug-headed-investigators collecting evidence of a vast, hidden control system that governs reality.
>Detective work involves getting high on insecticide, cut-up-techniques and orgon accumulation.
>The "Mugwumps," the "Reptiles," and the "Grey Officers" all represent control entities that feed on energy.
>Don't trust 'em.
>They are bureaucrats of a gnostic, alien order.
>Be aware of the insect archons!
>They are parasitic deities that can manifest as viruses (biological and linguistic), addictive substances or bureaucratic control.
>Create a detective and expose the hidden patterns of the manipulators!

Don't mind me. Just summing up some relevant aspects we've got so far.

Overall Vibe
>Detective, noir, surreal, pulp, gnostic, schizo, lowlife, gonzo, beat generation

Secrets, plots and conspiracy for players to uncover:
>People being processed into food and sold in supermarkets by a specific corporation
>Credit institution run by the grey stealing peoples time and converting it into cigars
>Aliens exist among us
>Shadows aren't fixed
>Players are bugs
>Parasitic archons exist
>The whole layers of reality thing

This is all good and all, but we have to set up the common person in general. We are really painting a really psychodelic and layered backstory, but what about the average person that lives in this world? Is this our earth-like world?

My take is that humanity, in general, is just like our humanity, with the expected morals and ethicsof western 20's-50's urban areas, but with the big difference in that they are starting to showcase small changes that they don't seem to care about or see as wrid, but the player and the other factions can clearly see, from antennas to facial features growing more and more faded. It should be a setting that used to be normal until all these gnostic parasites got their eyes on it and started fiddling with it despite not knowing any better themselves, all obssessed with understanding "humanity" but slowly eroding it with their own alien aspects, hence the weird push from the grey officers and the banks for "time saving" despite time for them being a completely different thing than time is for the average person. All the consciouness and trascedental aspects of the game is how these factions and entities actually interact with each other and try their best to perceive the human world that they are so interested in.

Also the reason why we think we are bugs it's because originally we were agents of said control system of reality that, paradoxically, were also the same type of entity that would mess with reality, but ended up really tying themslves to the "control" aspect of their roles and ended up becoming being that want to keep the material/human world as intact as possible from the other factions/entities that are basically stomping all over reality with their attempts of interacting with it.

I also quite like the idea of extending the Roaring Twenties aesthetic into the Red Scare and McCarthyism phenomena, except instead of suspicion about Russians, it's about who is "actually" human. Could also be used by governments and ideological groups as an excuse to weed out and/or dispose of problematic individuals.

Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games.

Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). Please remember that dialogue is what keeps the thread alive, so don't be afraid of giving someone feedback or post whatever relevant input you might have!

If the greek gods actively commanded their cults, do you think they'd prefer to personally show up to receive the worship of their cults or just create a unified priesthood?

Which option is more likely? I don't really understand what factors go into unified or decentralised religions.

Can someone critique this magical planetary defense system for whether it "works"?

>Magic can only recreate real phenomenon by drawing energy from other dimensions and channelling it according to the wizard's will.
>Aliens have a laser gun they want to use to boil the planet.
>Wizards create a spell that will create an ionised plasma shield at whatever point the laser aims, deflecting the laser and protecting most of the planet.
>Wizards have a lot more energy under control than the aliens do, so the aliens pretty much just give up and leave.

Why not? Stalin and other totalitarian dictators did two out three and Chinese Emperors did the third.

EC, BA or WE for being better when charging into melee.
WS or SW for reaching melee faster.

BA would be the best fit thematically if you specifically want to use jump pack troops, terminators, and dreadnoughts.
>>
>>97406589
depends how important the melee dreads are to you. If you're asking as someone who bought the starter with the fatty leviathan melee, it's only really okay in White Scars.

In WS, instead of leviathan shuffling 6 (it cant run) then never being within 12" of any enemies so literally never doing anything, in WS they're move8 (whole army gets +2" move base) and then weather magic can make them move12 (still allowed to shoot and charge). That's 100% more speed than they normally have. But then it's actually more than 100%, because when the 12" move gets them within 12" of an enemy they're allowed to declare a charge, and with move12 instead of move6 they have 4" setup move instead of 1" of any other leviathan. So you're moving 16" and highest-of-2d6 (so at least 20-21 inches) on your leviathan when regular one is still basically in its deployment zone unmoved.

WS can do the same thing with blobs of 10 footslogging terminators, to have them run as fast as a landraider without having to spend +400 points on a transport (instead just 105 for a storm wizard who gets a free 5 inch explosion gun with Stun2 hitting on 2+)

The WS buff mobility far more than the inferior wolves, where dread would move 6", and if near enemy (it isnt near enemy) it'd setup 3" after buffs for 9" total moved instead of 16" on scars.

If dreads dont matter, then NL (+1 WS vs status), EC (+1 initiative), WE (+1 melee attacks) buff the most melee units, so they're good like WS (super movement)

A lot of mid-tier melee armies also have exceptions. Vulkan is SSS-tier in melee. DA legacy term companions can blender most melees. Argel Tal doubling/tripling the speed of Phaeton terminators gives WB an S-tier melee blob, SoH reavers precision snipe even primarchs with lightning claws, Blood Angels have tons of 2+ armor jetpack melees, etc. The only armies that are always mostly shooting are: DG, TS, AL, IF, UM, IH, IW, RG, Sally-if-no-primarch, you would probably not want to pick one of those

Discussion about the above is welcome. Post good, be good, and look over others products, they care if someone looks more than anything.
Had to remake the thread

My physical copies of Primrose arrived today and by Wednesday they'll all be off to their new homes. Had to deal with some tariff bullshit at the post office since Im Australia based but otherwise most of my sales are locals who are coming around to hang out and pick up a copy at a meet and greet.

Having a lot of people enthusiastic about my game has been quite jarring since the game has always been only been known by my small local group. I ended up ordering about 12 copies and sold out, but theres already quite a few people who have been interested in a second run. I figured id write them all a thank you letter and finish it off with a wax seal as a show of gratitude too. Kinda weird being at the end of the road in all honesty.

I think I mentioned this in a previous thread to the Disturbia anon, but I think "Active Abilities" on cards is the way to go, so you have an incentive for not using your successes to cancel the opponents successes/deal damage that resolves before the damage occurs.

So something like "Spend 2 Successes: Give all allied units 1 free success for the rest of this turn," so you're trading damage in one situation for different bonus. Sure, you then risk this unit being killed or maybe not securing the objective it is targeting, but it could give you an edge somewhere else more important.

While the new cover looks nice, I must admit I am fonder of the original cover. It felt like a dusty told time you'd find in an abbey library. If the game is becomes a huge hit, maybe you could make the old a collector's edition version.

Most Yu-Gi-Oh! discussion encouraged. Post OC, write dumb fanfics with bad CaC in them, duel each other, have fun, etc.
