While the virus is extremely effective, it only targets Fera and their Kinfolk and it's actually too effective. It kills off any Fera community that it touches too quickly for it to spread and often burns out before it's able to be spread by carriers to another community.

Injuries aren't that much of a problem, given that they can use blood to heal like vampires do? Aggravated is admittedly a bitch but still doable, and there are gifts that offer a less resource-intensive option.
The more experienced ones have ways around aging, too, with the possibility to just hijack a fresh body.

Assume that the BBEG is an adequate challenge and difficulty for your setting and party (whether it’s Exalted or DND or Rogue Trader or whatever, and the villain is always the right difficulty level for your party whether you’re lvl 1 or lvl 20 or a weenie or a Solar, the scale is perfect).

Basically is this guy a problem you and your crew would want to fix in whatever game you’re playing.

If he isn’t, what would it take to make him be a problem? A bigger bounty or reward? A personal friend that got turned into a harem slave?

A good one might not go after women of influence and instead save the doomed and incorporate them: sick wives, damsels in distress, lame beggars and whores. His charming aura might be making them compliant, but his intention is improving their lives and humanity in general.

Cathay in the game has male and female only units, which ties into the harmony mechanic. All your regular warriors and stuff are dudes, but everything firearm related (crane gunners, the dragon shotguns, grenade throwers, ...) has female models. I think in the fluff the moon empress was involved with gunpowder or whatever, so they became associated with femininity and Yin, in-gamd (iirc). It seems like gw hasn't really bothered with all that and made both regular and firearms related units mixed gender. Although I think the new peasant might be all male I don't remember.

The individual roll is quick to resolve. You could make all of combat roll 1d20+mod if you beat the target you win the fight, or you could make it so you're making dozens of attacks in a game designed to make you miss half the time and deal 2 damage on hit vs 200 hp.

The choice is what action you're choosing to do, not how you describe it. If

have actual mechanical differences in how they're resolved and/or what they do on a hit, and both are at least somewhat reasonable options (ie worth doing with pros + cons) there's a meaningful choice. If both are actually the exact same action with the exact same effects but with different dressing you don't really have a choice. If attacking with your hilt inflicts a -10 hit penalty, deals -5 damage, and has a chance to make you drop your weapon on failure then you would never actually choose so the choice isn't meaningful.

In narrative games these could be very, very different actions with the exact same resolution, but that relies on GMs personally ajudicating the outcome of every action which some don't consider a real choice for the player (I'm fine with it, personally).

You can also add crunch but create no meaningful options. In some games there'll be elaborate rules for doing stunts, attempting unconvential actions, performing maneuvers, etc. But if they all have really high DCs or are too complex or provide no real advantage over saying "I attack again" no one's ever going to use them.

My physical copies of Primrose arrived today and by Wednesday they'll all be off to their new homes. Had to deal with some tariff bullshit at the post office since Im Australia based but otherwise most of my sales are locals who are coming around to hang out and pick up a copy at a meet and greet.

Having a lot of people enthusiastic about my game has been quite jarring since the game has always been only been known by my small local group. I ended up ordering about 12 copies and sold out, but theres already quite a few people who have been interested in a second run. I figured id write them all a thank you letter and finish it off with a wax seal as a show of gratitude too. Kinda weird being at the end of the road in all honesty.

I think I mentioned this in a previous thread to the Disturbia anon, but I think "Active Abilities" on cards is the way to go, so you have an incentive for not using your successes to cancel the opponents successes/deal damage that resolves before the damage occurs.

So something like "Spend 2 Successes: Give all allied units 1 free success for the rest of this turn," so you're trading damage in one situation for different bonus. Sure, you then risk this unit being killed or maybe not securing the objective it is targeting, but it could give you an edge somewhere else more important.

I want to run an investigation game in the desert part of America, 70's to 90's about. I was wondering if I should have it take place after a war that took down global communications just to kind of rein in where players can go and what they have access to. Like no airports, telephones if any are going to be local landlines that go to communications hubs. No internet, but maybe similarly local networks. No one really knows whats going on in the rest of the country and information is scarce. War took a toll on the country so theres also just less people around. An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. I did not. We actually screwed it up a bit looking at the rules for the mission (No Man's Land) and we thought that there was no middle point to capture, only the two that we each have on our base. Mission forbids infiltration, so my assassins couldn't advance that much forward.

Despite those disadvantages I was still doing pretty well at first until the Trench Cleric on his side got an insane activation with a grenade toss, charge, fight, then advance unto my point. I managed to clear him off in the end, but it put me at a point deficit that I wasn't quite able to make up at the end of the game.

Final scoring was 14-18.

Ultimately won the game by whittling down the enemy after I killed my chorister and warlock with my gas witch bombs to take out their faris and alchemist, it was a hit and we all had a good time. My buddy was routinely forgetting about his alch ammo which feels bad. But he's improving. Hopefully he figured out where his guys are most lethal

if you want the boss to have such a large number of henchmen from a narrative standpoint that it would unbalance combat from a mechanical standpoint, you can just use lair actions or the boss’s legendary actions to make attacks with the goons, and give each group of them one npc’s worth of hitpoints so the players can kill them off and the lair/boss no longer has access to that action. instead of them each being a fully statted npc with their own turns, etc.

I've been in mine but haven't played anything there. Nice in a sterile way but seems like they're trying to be too much with too little space - they've got boardgames, puzzles, TTRPGs, and wargaming (with a limited WH selection on the wall out of shot) all in one place. It's also a small, upscale, hipstery town so naturally they've got a set of beer taps and a full espresso setup, which I guess is something that most LGSs can't boast.

There's also a more typical card shop but I've never been there, and probably won't since I'm not into TCGs.

See, you might not have DM experience, but you've already figured out the fundamentals.

The Paladin has been POISONED! He will instantly die with no antidote. A Thief holds out the antidote and pours it all on the floor. 'Drink if you wanna live.'

The Paladin gets on his knees and licks the floor. He's feeling better already. But when he tries to kill the Thief, he finds out he has fallen. He just lost all powers!

Why did this happen? Simple. Honor is the soul of all Paladins with no exception. Without honor, there can be no Lawful Goodness.

There's nothing more dishonorable than getting on your knees and licking the floor like every dog.

That's the parable of the Paladin and the Thief. Remember it well.

In Japan, there was once a poisoned Samurai in a similar situation. A Ninja poured the antidote on the floor. Do you know what the Samurai did? He stripped out of all armor, took his Daikatana, and did Harakiri right there. His last words? 'I will never lick the floor like a dog.'

He died with great Honor and became legendary for it. Now THAT'S a Paladin!
