>>97226093I ran Tremere as a Bloodline though they could also work as a Covenant. I don't have the papers I made for them anymore but I'm fairly sure they were either a Mekhet or Ventrue bloodline with Obfuscate, Dominate and maybe Resilience? They had the stronger blood sympathy of a Bloodline active at all times, but their Bane was what I used to form the pyramid. They ran on Treehouse of Horror head-Vampire rules. Any Sire that died would also kill his childer and so on so forth, so their pyramid was a necessity for the bloodline to survive. They weren't as large as Tremere in Masquerade, but during the course of the campaign 4 NPCs suddenly combusted in the day because their sire was found by Hunters in the middle of the day.
>>97227437See, this is why people stick to referring to it as WoD5, "gWoD" is just not self-explanatory and you don't need an insulting nickname to get people to look upon something with scorn (look at "5e" being a shorthand for you-know-what).
>>97227589At first glance, it also feels a bit like trying to adapt Circle of the Crone to Masquerade.
>>97228010It feels like so much of v5's problems are because they're just taking things from Requiem without understanding why they were used and the purpose they serve in CofD.
>Your Tremere gf suddenly burst into a mass of tumorous tentacles during GehennaIs the Usurper pussy really worth it?

>>97225211Thankfully, Specialists don't have blanket trading post access, and the Tek-Hunter gear list is somewhat more limited than the regular Van Saar specialist one, so you're not getting nine dudes with plasma guns off the bat, thankfully.
>>97226994They aren't Gangers that promoted to Specialists, their profile is just Specialist from the start. And that profile includes being able to get weapons from the TP with no restrictions on weapon class. So sure you won't have 8 Plasma Guns at gang creation, but you could give all of them whatever Special/Heavy weapons you can afford from the TP from the first visit. On top of that they also have the VS Tech skills as Secondary. All this for just 10 creds more than a standard VS Ganger. Their roster entry is ridiculous.
>>97222879Yes I find them very charming as well, the lotr movies got me into the hobby to begin with so they will always be special to me.
>>97227154I’ve fallen in love after doing the base coats on one. I still need to highlight but I am a big fan of how they look painted. Them being so small really helps.

>>97227390I'm not even sure what exactly you're arguing desu. I've been trying to get an in game explanation of when you wouldn't allow someone to roll in 3e when they'd be allowed to roll in 2e but you won't really help me there. Here's more of what the book says though.>characters with inaccurate knowledge or different backgrounds experience much greater difficulties, if they are allowed to roll at all.Along with this bit.>You don’t have to treat the setting like a piñata, and Lore like a bat that will split its colorful shell and spill all the delicious secrets within, but you should always treat a character’s Lore rating as a chance to make the character look good, and as a chance to make the player feel good.If you flat out couldn't roll lore without a background or specialty then I don't think these lines would be here. They seem extremely clear desu. I'm sure there is more suggesting that yes, you can use your lore rating for lore rolls. Although at this point I don't think you'll accept anything other then what the devs have to say on the subject.
+>>97227707>I'm not even sure what exactly you're arguing desu.I said it in my second post to you anon when it was apparent I wasn't clear, >>97226525, and I've said it a few other times. You keep bringing in other things like charms that don't really even touch on what I saidThat's it, that's the entirety of my point, "Lore in 3e requires you to focus on a subject the Lore is in, and allows or forbids rolls based on that, 1e and 2e just had Lore be Lore, and it applied regardless of subject" that's it, that's the whole thing I've been repeating this whole time anonPage 238>In most cases, if the character is challenging a difficulty that falls under her expertise, it is her expertise that makes the roll possible in the first placeEmphasis on the last bit of itSpeaking of quotes from the book, you left out the first half of the first bit you quoted>Note again that it is the character’s Lore background and specialty that makes such rolls possible; characters with inaccurate knowledge or different backgrounds experience much greater difficulties, if they are allowed to roll at all. It flat out states the background and specialties are what allows the rolls anonI'm about to go to sleep, and I'd tell you to maybe make sure not to quote a line that outright contradicts your point in the same sentence next time, but given you intentionally left out the first half, I'm pretty sure you were just hoping I wouldn't check or something

>>97227690Some calculations because I got curious.Voyager 1 took 35 years to cross the heliopause, which is ~0.0019 light-years from the sun. An archmage that can skip space should be faster than that—let's say 10 times, so 0.35 years. The nearest star to the sun is Proxima Centauri, ~4.25 light-years away. 4.25 / 0.0019 x 0.35 = ~781 years. Exploring the nearest solar systems is unrealistic at that speed. However, what if the archmage has connections with a higher entity or some such? If we suppose that the entity is 100 times faster than them, it can travel to Proxima Centauri in 7.81 years. Add some permanent portals and exploring the nearby solar systems seems plausible. Then, add a few million years of age behind the entity and many other similar entities and exploring the Milky Way seems plausible.

Magic should be rare, mysterious, superstitious. It should take time to use and be exhausting to cast When did fantasy magic and wizards turn in Avatar the Last Airbender shooting fire and lightning out their assholes?
>>97217677>Magic should be rare, mysterious, superstitious. It should take time to use and be exhausting to castOP, my setting (using GRUPS) is like that. There are also no homosexuals in the setting, nor are any of the players homosexual. This is not a coincidence.

>>97227734He's the only gay in the village like in that british comedy.
>>97217788>Old thing good new thing bad
>>97217677Magic should NOT be rare.It should be at minimum between uncommon and common. It should be well explained, yet at the same time it should not be given out like candy. Only few should have access to magic.Small spells should be instant, without chants and require those depending on the spell's magnitude (not to mention specific reagents).Magic should be powerful at least and bordering extremely close to reality warping if not being this, yet should also have the user pay the price for overdoing it.
Have anyone here played this? How does it compare to the older 40k RPGs like Dark Heresy and it's derivatives? How does it compare to WFRP?
>>97224424It reduced a lot of the little specific rules and does progression different. But it's still basically the same game
>>97220814>>97220814They are really focusing on the whole patrons thing for this one, and so far it looks like every book is going to be (Patron Organization) Players Guide and (Patron) GM's Guide. You're never going to get gems like Disciples of the Dark Gods or Lure of the Expanse which add things to the game instead of retreading old lore material.
>>97227266It pisses me off so fucking bad they didn't just make a fixed up DH. The smartest move they made with that game was the focus.
>>97217635Less clunky than DH but also with less content. I'd say if you aren't already heavily invested in older games it's a good way to start.
It's close enough to the original that I can still use a lot of the content for it with minimal changes. I generally prefer the changes but it would be nice to have a conversion guide to speed things up when redoing content.
Welcome to /wbg/, the thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games. Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. Why yes, my sci-fi setting does have horseback cavalry with laser rifles
>Hate big bland kingdomslop (ew, gross)>Love individual city states with unique cultures and customs (mmm yum delicious more please waiter)What are some ways I can stop boring kingdoms from forming in my setting?
>>97167875I usually try to take at least one step away from just blatant switch the names around theft, but I don't think I've ever had a fully original idea. For fantasy warcraft 1 and 2 were huge for me and the Dominions series is even bigger. The closest I have come to outright theft is running a near 1:1 of the original RE1, puzzles and all, with a few changes, and I created a city that was heavily based on Carcer City from manhunt, with my own gangs, but they had a fantasy bend
>>97171614My most recent setting is modernish, so the two biggest powers in the world have all kinds of 3 letter agency types, that I have based on everything from the CIA, to SPECTRE
>>97227159rugged geography. Plenty of uninhabitable features on the map carving territories apart. That makes cultures more insular isolated and allows for diverse cultures to prop up. Greece is the third mosr mountainous country in europe. Therefore in the small valleys, nooks and crannies different city states propped up. Macedonia is mostly flat filled with rivers and lakes. So it was a kingdom. You get the gist. The Mesopotamian city states were all found in a fertile region dominated by rivers surrounded by inhospitable environments, so regions were cut up by these rivers and their offshoots and made natural borders for city states developing.
