Why?
I don't like the romantic part of the normal humans, but reading how the Legion fell was interesting and tragic, which I think was the point of the novel, a sad tragic story of the Legion that tried to achieve perfection and fell in degeneration in the process.

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

>How do I get started?

That’s more of an aesthetic than a warband so probably New Antioch or Heretic Legion.
>>
>>97226745
They are kinda the 'default' faction but they still have some identity.

> they have the -3 Armour with the MHI and the 1 Mechanized Heavy Armour they get, which is unique and allows them to have well defended units that can use two hands
> fireteams let you control the action economy far better, especially when combined with the Leiutenants ability to choose which enemy next activates
> they have access to the most mercenaries in the game, as well as a wide array of glory item.
> like most faithful factions, they have limited access to FIRE
> they don't have a whole lot of true STRONG, but have some partial strong
>>
>>97227681
If anything is I'd say that Heretic Legion are the default faction in terms of gameplay
>access to any weapon under the sun in quantity
>most units are simple and genetically good
>no faction special rules to speak of
>detachment rules are all super simple
While New Antioch genuinely requires a lot of experience to leverage their key strengths. Aesthetically you're right, but for all practical purposes I feel that that should be clarified.

There is no game who has a cast more despicable and unappealing as this, except maybe Civilization Beyond Earth, which, appropiately enough, is this game's spiritual successor. If it was for me, I'd subject the entire planet to Exterminatus, humanity going extinct would be a better outcome than being controlled by any one of these bozos and their vomit-inducing ideologies, which may be also backed by giant mind-raping alien worms. I had to wait Age of Wonders: Planetfall to have a sci-fi Civ-like game with factions that were (barely) tolerable.

>in spite of V5 curse
Through the power of Thaumaturgy, all things are possible evidently. Even becoming a vampire clan.
The thing about these power structures is that they start failing the nanosecond they start overtly controlling you in noticeable ways, which allow you to organize against it and seek your own way out. Instead they're just oppressive in small ways to make it difficult to circumvent. That's my take though.
>>
>>97226093
I ran Tremere as a Bloodline though they could also work as a Covenant. I don't have the papers I made for them anymore but I'm fairly sure they were either a Mekhet or Ventrue bloodline with Obfuscate, Dominate and maybe Resilience? They had the stronger blood sympathy of a Bloodline active at all times, but their Bane was what I used to form the pyramid. They ran on Treehouse of Horror head-Vampire rules. Any Sire that died would also kill his childer and so on so forth, so their pyramid was a necessity for the bloodline to survive. They weren't as large as Tremere in Masquerade, but during the course of the campaign 4 NPCs suddenly combusted in the day because their sire was found by Hunters in the middle of the day.
>>
>>97227437
See, this is why people stick to referring to it as WoD5, "gWoD" is just not self-explanatory and you don't need an insulting nickname to get people to look upon something with scorn (look at "5e" being a shorthand for you-know-what).
>>
>>97227589
At first glance, it also feels a bit like trying to adapt Circle of the Crone to Masquerade.
>>
>>97228010
It feels like so much of v5's problems are because they're just taking things from Requiem without understanding why they were used and the purpose they serve in CofD.

Shipping a booster pack to the United States from Europe is $50. And this year the de minimis loophole was closed so that booster pack is probably going to get tarrif'd for like 50% or whatever the standard rate of the European nation is. And it's going to take 4 weeks.
>>
>>97227813
Scryfall is owned by TCGPlayer, so for US prices it always directs you to TCGPlayer listings. If you search for the card on other sellers like Card Kingdom you mostly likely will get similar prices to the EU.

revised Temporal Anchor:
>You bind your very essence to a fixed point in the flow of time, warding yourself against imminent harm. When you cast this spell, note your current hit point amount and location. After 1d4+1 rounds have passed, or at your choosing (an immediate action), the spell takes effect: your hit point amount and location in space are immediately reset to the exact point at which you cast temporal anchor, and you are cured of any and all adverse conditions (including spells or effects that would possess you or exercise mental control over you) that were inflicted in the elapsed time.
>Any attempts at teleportation or planar travel automatically trigger the effect of temporal anchor.
If your original point in space is occupied, you are shunted to the next-nearest free space and take 2d6 points of damage.

Temporal Anchor is seeming like a 9th-level spell too at this point. Along with Time Stop, these make for a good trio of time spells.
>>
>>97227963
Alternatively, Temporal Anchor could also dispel positive effects, which might balance it a bit more.
>>
>>97227892
>>97227963
Right yeah, worded like this they both make the 9th level cut. What's funny is that, by RAW, temporal anchor can trigger off of time stop rounds, negating whatever backlash you might've accumulated via self-inflicted spells during the time stop
>>
>>97227977
Nice catch. I think I will add "you cannot cast this spell while effected by Time Stop" then.
>>
>>97227977
>>97227992
Last post before I head to sleep, but perhaps if the spell resistance is removed from temporal shield (leaving it with just "no hp damage" and "freedom of movement") it may be suitable as more of an 8th level spell after all.

With >>97225249 being a prime example, and not just about MtG but about life in general, younger folks usually have more of a tendency to project some idealized image of the past into their brain and be very vehement about it. The people who were actually there know better usually.

Now don't get me wrong, older folks have a different but somewhat similar bias as well, idealizing their own teen years. So the important part is to see which overlaps are where on a timeline, because these are two kind of biases that are very strong in people. One is about the perfect outside (ideal past), other about the perfect inside (ideal me).

Point is, if you identify any of these posters, don't argue with them, it's pointless. They have beliefs, not opinions.

It also takes to be retarded to not have a dedicated "ally" that you can trust with, knowing he won't betray you. Either of you wins, and the other of you will be 2nd, and if neither of you is winning, you can drag down whoever is.
This is like TI 101, the bare basics of fucking strategy
And like many games like this, the backstabber only gets to backstab people once. After that, they are forever fucked, because everyone remembers they aren't trustworthy

[black and white, sketch-like] for anyone in a willing mood;

"In a damp, torch-lit cavern, depict a scene of grim captivity. Two dozen small, pale and hairless oortlings are herded against a rough-hewn wall, their large eyes wide with terror, kept in a tight, trembling pack. Dominating the scene is a single mind flayer, its illithid form imposing and cerebral, its tentacles idly coiling as it surveys its living larder with cold, psionic calculation. Flanking it are two immense, hairless mutant thralls: obese ogre-cyclops hybrids with sickly albino skin, a single brutish eye each, and crude clubs resting on their shoulders. Enforcing the perimeter are two bestial grimlock slaves, their eyeless faces sniffing the air, and two hulking, fur-covered quaggoth slaves, their claws and fangs bared, ensuring not a single oortling escapes its fate as future brain cattle. The atmosphere is thick with fear, dampness, and the promise of horrific consumption.

[black and white, sketch-like] for anyone in a willing mood;

also the "slime giant slave"

"A massive, vaguely humanoid mound of translucent ooze towers over 12 feet tall, its gelatinous form pulsing
and flowing with disturbing life. Within its crystalline mass, the partially dissolved form of a giant can be seen
—a frost giant, fire giant, or other massive humanoid preserved in horrific stasis. The giant's enormous limbs
are stretched outward through the ooze's body, massive hands reaching desperately toward freedom that will
never come. The creature's face, though dissolving, is frozen in a rictus of eternal agony visible through the
transparent slime.
A giant slime slave is an advanced form of the standard slime slave, created from a much larger crystal ooze and
requiring the sacrifice of a giant or other Large humanoid creature. The ritual is even more demanding and
creates a far more dangerous guardian. These massive oozes are prized by powerful evil priests and archmages
as guardians for their most important sanctums, particularly those near water or in flooded caverns.

[black and white, sketch-like] for anyone in a willing mood;
and the slime slave

""A vaguely humanoid puddle of translucent ooze squelches and flows as it moves. Within its gelatinous mass, the
partially dissolved form of a humanoid victim can be glimpsed—preserved in horrific stasis, limbs stretched
outward in eternal supplication. Though it acts under external magical command, its body is alive and secretes
paralytic slime to incapacitate intruders. On its own, it is incapable of complex decision-making.
A slime slave is not a true golem but rather a living crystal ooze that has been magically enslaved and shaped
into a roughly humanoid form through a horrific necromantic ritual. The creature's vaguely humanoid
appearance comes from the humanoid victim sacrificed during its creation—their body absorbed but not fully
digested, giving the ooze both its shape and a macabre warning to those who see it.
These creatures are created by evil priests and mages who serve dark powers associated with corruption,
dissolution, and subterranean domains. They are popular guardians for underwater temples, flooded dungeons,
and subterranean lakes.

>Bork is closer to GURPS than to D&D
has to be a bait. GURPS is roll 3d6 bell curve, Borg is linear d20

>"has ability scores" makes every RPG a clone, "d20 vs target" is generic
it's not just it has stats, it's the modifier spread:
D&D's 3-18 stat range yields a modifier from -3 to +3
in Borg you roll 3d6, use a table to determine a stat from -3 to +3

>damage/rest
GURPS: shock penalties, limb targeting, consciousness checks at negative HP
Warhammer: critical injury tables, insanity points
Borg: you have HP, when it hits 0, you die

it's the D&D abstraction, it's not "generic" it's specifically the Gygaxian model of health

I think the Leonidas is a great all-rounder with its stealth armor, but for flexibility to take on other BA and larger targets you really only have the option of the David.

Black Wolves are tough though for BA, with reactive making them resistant to the normal infantry counters, and the ERSPL or LBX gives them damage enough to keep mechs worried. The JJ is really just to get them a TMM, but it can also get them down from vantages if you had time to set them up on buildings or cliffs.

I bought minis for both for my mercenary company since I was planning on using them to babysit conventional infantry; there's pros and cons for either.
