So Dale of Merchants follows VotK, deviating from conventional deckbuilding design by not having any VP at all. You win by achieving the objective of completing your market stall, which gets more difficult as you need larger values of cards in specific value combinations. This is the main tension of the game, giving up or gaining tempo in setting up for that late game push of being able to complete your stall. You'll select a couple decks of cards to form the market cards and some starting decks, and what decks you play with, similar to dominion, will shake the game up. Unlike dominion, every card in the market can be used to add to your stall, so no card is ever left untouched. It also borrows the conveyor belt market from Ascension/Star Realms, but with no card having a base cost more than 5 (and you always having a five card hand), barring take that! cards being played, you will always be able to buy at least one card in the market if you want.

Now about that tempo, you cant do much on your turn in DoM. You can do one thing from the choices of buy from market, play card for its technique, complete a stack in your market stall, or discard cards. Sure, some techniques let you take a bonus action afterwards, leaving room for some combos, but you wont see someone drawing out their entire massive deck and do a billion buys/point scoring. You have to be selective and plan ahead, focus on the here and now or you likely won't be able to keep up in the stall completing game. This was a huge draw for my group. I'm often buying a card for its purchase value now, its ability in a few select situations soon, but mainly for its end game stall completing potential.

Then there are the suites. Each deck has a different theme, different deck options lead to wildly different combos, player interaction, and tempo. The cards themselves dont have any crazy designs like you see in later Dominion, Ascension, or VotK sets. They are all pretty straightforward. (contd)

So what sold me on this game when anons pitched it was the victory objective, the mix and match of sets within the games (and between boxes, everything is compatible), and the price.
The first 2 are really affordable, give you plenty of mix and match options, and every additional set you get just adds to the options. This is why I went all in.

The collector box also has a ton of these interesting avatar cards, with their own abilities and game breaking powers, or additional objectives to win. I havent touched these yet, but one anon here said that when his group started using them, they never went back.

So while VotK is the favorite game of its type for two player matches between my wife and I, Dale of Merchants is offering a different, but also very engaging experience. With the deck selection at game set up, you can make the game as interactive, solitaire, beginner friendly, or cuththroat and full of off the wall shenanigans as you want. Last night we played with crocodiles, raccoons and fennec foxes (among two other decks) and cards were exchanging hands, decks, discard piles left right and center. Luckily things arent entirely one sided, as cards being stolen are always replaced with something. It happens to be junk most of the time, but hey, at least you got a payment for your velocipede! It was maybe a bit too much chaos, but if thats what you want, you could add even more insanity with the inclusion of other interactive/punishing races like echidnas or magpies. I'm smitten with the design and look forward to teaching others.

My fellow anons guide me towards the light once again.

I play to win but I don't care about winning that much. The autists in my group love their bgstats bullshit and logging plays and wins and whatnot, I'm just glad I get to partake in my hobby. One of my favorite games I've never ever won.

You just listed some of the factors that might be important, without actually addressing the why and some of the how.

What do they want to do with their character? Each class has things that they are good at doing or are part of the class identity. Decide on which of those things are most important and then pick the corresponding class.

Next, what kind of background does the character have? This will matter both mechanically (will give you proficiency in skills that make sense for your character as well as a bonus to stats that are important for your character's class) as well as for roleplay (a character who grew up as a Sailor would be played differently than one that was a Farmer). The ones listed in the guidebook are mostly fine, but you can also work with your DM to make your own if you have a specific idea for a character's backstory (or if you want to be a Monk that isn't a Sailor).

You also get to pick your race (species now? I forget), which gives your character additional abilities and informs how your character roleplays. Think about what your character's culture is like and if you want to have certain attributes.

After you do those things and decide if you want to have the equipment each class and background provides, then you roll and/or allocate your stats, write down your class and background abilities, and pick your spells if you have them.

Why is it the Divine powersource and flavor is so devoid?

I was looking back at 3.x content for inspiration and one of the PrC, the Contemplative and looking back at its class abilities are basically stuff you'd get as a mix of the monk and Paladin's fluff buff of being a neigh immortal magical being who is no longer affected by aging.

How often did stuff like wholeness of body or stuff like that actually come up in games? Then there is the fact that the Divine power source can't blend well with other flavors when you look back to the psionic books and the whole !clerics had "mantles" instead of "domains"

>To long, didn't read

The Divine powe source should be able to touch all flavors and it doesn't and the classes/prc/subclasses suck and suffer for it.

Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

Everyone I know who watches Fatt Coville videos is a fucking terrible GM. I've never fully watched one and I am widely considered the best GM out of all 3 groups I'm part of. I am regularly requested to run campaigns. People borderline fall asleep in the games others run. There's also no tension because they know that these Coville acolytes will fudge rolls until all PCs survive the battle.

If you're a good GM, it's an inmate talent you can hone over time. You're born that way. If you aren't, then no amount of shitty advice is going to make up for your lack of talent. It just is what it is. This idea that everyone should "try" DMing is retarded. The idea that anyone can be good at it? lolno. Its like some fat divorced on who suddenly decides he's gonna become a famous author. Fat chance. Most people fucking suck at GMing. Hell, most of them suck at playing, but at least in that case the game depends less on them.

>5e players are slop guzzlers, they may complain about you changing there slop, but most won't leave.
They will if you aren't running 5e, which is the source of the problem. You want to play a different system, but the rest of the people at the table refuse to even try to care unless you are running 5e. What do you do? Matt Colville advice is the entirely retarded bit of advice where you simply ignore that problem and insist on running a different system with the assumption that everyone will keep showing up regardless of what kind of game is being run. There is no follow-up advice for what to do when they simply refuse to show up until you agree to run 5e again.
>>
>>97251340
>Maybe Fatt Coville isa good DM, but his hordes of Patreon simps that blindly copy his stupid ideas, rarely are.
He's not. He talks a big game and loves to say things that sound intelligent, but in practice he runs games with a lot of blunt force railroading.
>In videos: Be flexible! Improv! Put the spotlight on the PCs since they're the stars! If they come up with a cool idea, just use it! Player choices matter!
>In practice: Talks over the players. Spews obnoxious drawn out exposition dumps instead of player-NPC interaction. Gets annoyed when players don't immediately follow the exact things he planned from start to finish for the entire campaign. Whenever they go outside of his plans, he just forces them back on rails. Cutscene narration as often as possible.
>>
>>97252486
>Spews obnoxious drawn out exposition dumps instead of player-NPC interaction.
This is happening in our game right now. It sucks because our GM is usually great, but the module he's running is really terrible.

Singular "they" for unknown gender is literally as old as Modern English, being first attested at about the same time as the transition from Middle English.

It's either he or they. Anything else is 100% incorrect.

>Average people tasks are not rolls
Yes they are, they are even given explicit DCs. Take 20 implies repeated failures until you eventually net a rare success.
Take 10 is only possible if you are not distracted. There are also instances like walking across a 2x4 that the average level 1 commoner can't beat even if they take 10, even though no person I know irl would fail that.
You failed and don't know the rules.
>>
>>97248117
Don't forget that it also works the other way around where you're too likely to succeed at tasks that should be nearly impossible. A random untrained person has a 25% chance to instantly stabilize someone that's been stabbed in the throat with a sword (he can also be recovered and fully functional just by sleeping for a full day).

Even in real life physics doesn’t fuck around and will fucking kill you if you aren’t careful

I don’t know why the concept of dangerous magic pisses people off

nobody ever claimed that magic should not be dangerous

IIRC Germanium is one of the rare earth elements (which, despite the name, aren't actually all that rare, but normally found in such tiny concentrations that it's rare for them to form ore deposits), in which case you'd be looking for highly derived magmatic rocks (basically the very last rocks that crystallized in a large magma chamber) or certain kinds of volcanogenic hydrothermal deposits. Most REEs stick to the molten phase of rock for as long as possible, so they tend to get more concentrated in the remaining fluid as crystallization progresses. And in most cases the magma will cool down too quickly to allow for a high REE-concentration phase to separate.

To carry over damage use the mul file generated at the end of the air battle. Next import the units to the lobby of the main game substituting the original fighters with survivors and the appropriate delay. Alternatively you can run both the ground battle and air battle at the same time in 2 instances of megamek and when the air battle is done use the [reinforce from mul file] option to import the surviving fighters to the side that won, or even give both sides their surviving fighters if the air battle was inclusive.

You make a good point. A mercenary is an employee whereas a privateer is a licensee.
Additionally, mercenaries are “foreigners” relative to the conflicts in which they fight. By contrast, privateers are subjects of the sovereign from whom they obtain their letters of marque.
Wolf’s Dragoons, for example, could never make it as privateers, lacking the requisite patriotism.

I was talking with someone about this the other day and we concluded the germanium for the first jump core probably came from asteroids because it's way easier to get at.

I don’t play or read about Warhammer. What happens to chaos dwarfs? Is being stone a good thing?
>>
>>97195417
No they don't.
>>
>>97252435
Normally Dwarfs in Warhammer can't wield magic at all because they were made so by the Old Ones (in part because they wanted them resistant to Chaos). Dwarfs however created Rune Magic that is a bypass for them and their inability to use magic.

Chaos Dwarfs however can use magic because they were granted it by their own Chaos God Hashut after they abandoned their traditions and Ancestor Gods for pragmatism in order to survive all the shit that was falling on them in the Dark Lands. When they did embrace him and changed over the generations, they got their magics (including the Lore of Hashut which is unique only to them).
Problem is, and it was mentioned before, that Dwarfs were not build to wield magic. And the more their Daemonsmits and Sorcerer Prophets use their powers and channel the Winds of Magic the more they turn into stone.
And no, being turned into a stone sculpture IS NOT a good thing for them (in fact it's not good for anyone). In fact the main temple of Hashut in Zharr-Nagrund has the main road to it decorated with stone sculptures that uses to be Daemonsmiths and Sorcerer Prophets that succumbed to the stone curse.

Yeah. But they use it either way due to the fact that it is power that is useful to them.
They have to however conserve their powers and be careful while casting. Even then the curse of stone is still a thing and it simply very slowly affects them.

I see, cheers. If this gets anywhere after the wreckers and arms masters, I might look into more gangers with fancy guns for vanity's sake, to give a feel of progression.

>How deep is your bit box?

Fairly shallow, got a bunch of random bits from mostly Heresy kits and then some. Doubt any ranged weapons from the nu-Mks or SoS will fit without some serious modding since they're two-handed by design, but I've plenty of leftovers from the MkVII kit otherwise, which are one-handed so I guess there's those.

There are a couple decent heads in there for what you want. Molds are a little flashed-up but I really like the sculpts.

GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.
Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.

A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image. Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.

If you're wondering where to start:
- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.
- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.
- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.
- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.

Thread question: How often do you use an official GURPS setting? Which are your favorites?

Imbue 3 (Limited Skill Access, Multi-Shot, -80%; Limited Skill Application, Guns only, -50%) [8] + Multi-Shot (Guns) DX+0 [8]
Pack it as a single 16 points advantage.
