Successfully pushing an army of chaos dwarfs out of the territory. I've done 8 of my 16 battles with that player and every single one was a tabled win. In 6 of those matches he didn't get enough wounds to get any unit to below 50%. He has officially changed armies, either to dwarfs or ogres, he hasn't fully decided yet. I'd make a thematic write up, but feels a bit cruel.

silenced revolvers are a real thing though, that's not unrealistic. Glowies even made special collapsible silenced revolvers with stocks and night vision scopes chambered in subsonic ammunition to do wetwork during the Cold war because revolvers don't leave behind casings so an assassin doesn't need to pick up brass after shooting

If your players aren't making informed decisions then you are failing as a GM to convey information and context and or failing to keep them engaged in the game. Players will be more mindful of their choices when they are interacting with the world and adventure, not when you try to overload them with information and minutia.

For Centaurs, you should be able to use them as mounts when not in combat if they're lightly armed & armored. I think you could ride into battle with them and fight on their back without overburdening them, depending on your loadout. Squeezing into dungeons and caves might be a bit of a bitch, and your centaur companion may find themselves too cumbersome to accompany you in certain locations. If people in wheelchairs can make do, I'm sure a transmog potion or a shrinking potion might solve the problem.

They're more at home here for sure, like having a horse. Some taverns may give you a hard "no" for your centaur companion, but I'm sure regions that are steeped in centaur culture or adjacent ones have accommodations for their unique anatomy. If nothing else, they could help carry your camp supplies and other provisions.

If you're not riding them, I think they can be pretty well armed and armored- think tower shield and a mace/flail. They also make good spearmen, so I think they'd be comfortable wielding a halbard and similar pike-style weapons. This would be with them wearing plate mail cuirass for the human portion and chainmail curtain over their horse hind quarters, or perhaps some specially fitted Gambeson. Other plate sections could be fitted to their horse body as needed. Archery and crossbows seem like they'd work for ranged options. I've not considered them using magic, but having a fairly mobile spellcaster seems cool as well.

Thing is it can't work like that; You'd end up with a Human Centipede deal where the Human stomach was just dumping into the Horse one, if not outright shitting into it via a full human digestive tract.

And that's on top of them being two very different systems, one a generalized omnivore and the other mostly dedicated to digesting grasses.

Humans can't do it super effectively either, really; perfect left/right strafing in videogames is mostly a QoL feature and IRL what you're most often doing is pivoting your hips to face one way while keeping your upper body facing another to move along a diagonal, not scooting perfectly left.

In a vidya context they probably wind up feeling a lot like the horseback controls for Red Dead Redemption but with more restriction on how far you can turn. I guess you could also give them tank controls.

Ruminants already have multiple stomachs, but horses don't because they ferment plant fiber in their lower intestine instead. A centaur would need a differently developed foregut (everything before the large intestine) for digesting non-plant material which, coincidentally, is where most meat digestion takes place in humans already. Squaring the circle here would be somehow adapting their gut environment for bacteria that could handle a highly varied diet and still handle hardy plant fiber like grass but we'd be getting way off in the weeds.

Tangential but I actually had to figure out the 'human torso on much larger body' digestive problem for a Nechronica character once and eventually settled on her entire 'human' body being a very overly engineered set of mouth parts. Most of the torso was empty, and she could open it up to swallow large chunks of meat (usually the bad guys). Most of her attack parts were built around this as well, like having a large tongue with serrated growths anchored to her sternum so she could saw off chunks from her prey.

Tripping because you don't look where you're going is far worse for a horse than for a human. I mean tripping in a combat situation is pretty bad for anyone, but sheer mass of horse (or centaur) body is far more likely to turn that momentary inconvenience into a permanent injury.

Nope, not vehicle cards, upgrades on the unit entry itself. This codex is odd, it only superficially conforms to 2e design, and largely feels like it was only a change to weapon profiles and point costs. These upgrades don't exist in the other lists, so they won't be a factor going forward.

The differences are in which editions it's backporting from and how closely it aligns to 2e design pricples. The older 2 lists are based off of the 3e codex, so a difference in vehicle upgrades and unit details, as well as the character selections. I'm inclined to go with one of these two in the end, even if only as a foundation to my own efforts at a dark eldar fandex.

It's still a damn good game, I started much later, 4th edition is where I truly was able to really "get it" and actually play the game, so I was already far removed from what 2e was. But even still, picking it up after a chance encounter with one of the anons lurking this thread and playing it out for roughly a year shows that we is still a very good and comprehensive wargame. In a word, Yes.

I play almost exclusively with original cast lead figures from the 1980s (Except for the ones I've sculpted and cast myself), and I run my games (usually Realm of Chaos) from the original printed books.

It is not always possible to find everything needed to run a game from the appropriate vintage, in which case some substitutes are unavoidable, but it is best to TRY to keep to the original materials whenever possible, or failing that modern reproductions in the style of those better days.

Anything made with a computer is just not as good, you can feel the difference in your hand. Cast metal miniatures will ALWAYS be better than 3d prints, on both an aesthetic and technical level. I will always prefer artwork created by hand to anything made with software and computers, the machine just sucks the soul right out of it.

I encourage my friends I play with to do the same, but I understand it takes a certain dedication that not everybody has so a couple years ago I started branching out my collection to include figures that my friends would often want to use, or monsters and creatures we might face in encounters & scenarios.

I do not feel the need to track down original 1980s GW paints because A. They are a perishable commodity unlike metal miniatures which can more reasonably be expected to survive the decades, and B. GW has hardly changed or improved their paint formula at all in the past forty odd years, they've just steadily deteriorated the quality of the packaging and branding.

I am not a hypocrite, but I am absolutely a Luddite, a Neo-Luddite if you will. I've tried it both ways and I can safely say from personal experience that the game is much more satisfying when played this way.

Honestly pretty ass. It's easy and better than nothing, but the company is truly horrific. And I stopped keeping up years ago but expect it only got worse. I also got banned once because we used to have a flames general and I kept larping as battlefront satirizing how pants on head greedy and stupid their idea was to make people wait 5 years to be able to play basic armies in their new edition, so jannies were mad af that their casual game was getting heat

Yeah it was a shitshow because it was trying to be historical 40k and fell on its ass because of it. I did like the v4 cards and thought it streamlined what was a clunky game, but honestly, it attracted the worst kind of ahisotrical bullshit. You'd see photos of tank parking lots exploiting the rules. Just shit. I only liked to play casually where I could sprinkle in awg elements and minis. Ironically the games rules being so bad are why it is more of an awg because it sure as shit aint historical

I've found from the grapevine that Jes Goodwin is soon to retire from Games Workshop

He really is the king. His concept sketches and absolutely timeless work on mk7 Space Marines and the Eldar particularly are worthy of the highest praise.

His influence will be sorely missed, though with how miniatures are often 3+ years in the pipeline before being seen on shelves, his legacy will continue.

We have all experienced the coming and going so GMs, Players and games; and then left holding the bag too start all over again at Square One.
If and when you have to start over from scratch how and where (online) would you start I'll look for groups and games?
There has been numerous reasons that would force someone to start all over again be it scheduling, life, work, people changing.

Pick a game/system. Most games have a "Starter Set" that comes with the base rules, usually a module or scenario to play through, dice and pregenernated characters. You could make your own if you wanted. Get some friends tell them we are playing the scenario/module. Then run it. Usually you being the person interested you should be the one to buy and read the starter set and GM/DM the scenario. Once done if people want to keep play go buy other campaigns/scenarios/modules (a campaign is just a really long scenario/module that takes many sessions to complete) maybe pick up the "Core" rule ok for whatever system you are playing.
