>In the game Werewolf: The Apocalypse, the Garou (werewolves) were made to defend the earth from the cosmic forces that threaten to tear it apart. The Garou fight against the Wyrm, the destroyer. It is a struggle against nearly insurmountable odds, especially considering the rivalry between many tribes. These rivalries make it almost impossible for the werewolves to present a unified front against a cosmic force that pervades reality.
>From this morass of hatred and mutual betrayal, there is little hope that the Garou can emerge triumphant against a foe so well armed as the Wyrm. The Wyrm promises money, power, sex, and whatever else the heart desires to its followers while the Garou receive no reward for their striving. It drives them deeper and deeper into despair, or into betrayal so deep that they choose to serve the Wyrm instead.

I just skim enough to put the least amount of information necessary on my sheet. Sometimes I just make shit up that sounds right, and if I get called out on it I just say I didn't understand that part of the book and write in whatever they correct me on. I usually don't even spend XP, or if I do just dump it into the one or two skills I use all the time. If the GM or play group makes an assumption about a skill or piece of equipment they think I have I just write it on my sheet and go with it. I'm just here to play pretend, and my groups like the characters I play, so they don't need to know about how I do my character sheets.

▶What is Kingdom Death?
Kingdom Death is a tabletop miniature brand stared by Adam Poots and operated by himself and his Team that later spun off into a miniature based bored game funded by two very successful Kickstarter campaigns.

▶What is Kingdom Death: Monster?
Monster is a Nightmare Horror cooperative boss battler/miniature hobby game for 1-4 players about hope in a strange world of bizarre monstrosities and perpetually darkness. Players take on the role of survivors that band together to form a settlement, fighting monsters, crafting weapons and gear, and developing their civilization to ensure survival from generation to generation.

Prologue Narration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNLc8dHv0Ac

The Game is broken up into 3 phases:
1. During your Hunt Phase your band of survivors traverse the world of KD in pursuit of their quarry.
2. After successfully tracking your quarry you will begin the Showdown Phase, where you must fell these horrific creatures in order to acquire precious resources.
3. After the battle, your survivors wander home with loot in hand to begin the Settlement Phase. Arm yourself by developing new weapons and bizarre structures to prepare for next year's hunt.

A fundamentally monstrous creature (eldritch horror, biblical angel, sapient ooze, etc., something that clearly isn't humanoid or common-animal shaped) that disguises itself as a human but has a really poor understanding of how humanoids think and behave. The narrative draw would be (poorly) learning about humanity, while the combat draw would be playing a giant monster.
For all the goofy backstories and character identities modern DMs and GMs allow, it's rather disappointing how few of them allow nonhumanoid characters, and those that do tend not to care much about the rules of the game in the first place. Most of them won't even allow such a creature trapped in a human body (basically, just a mechanically normal character with a weird backstory), though playing a downgrade would be a copout to begin with. I can't really blame them though, as I myself wouldn't let someone play that sort of character in my usual campaigns (I did host a "players play the monsters in a dungeon and fight off adventurers" game once though, which was great). Perhaps one day, I too will get to play in a "monster party" game

If we're talking about characters the typical D&D campaign is designed to handle though, then playing a stereotypical rogue would be nice sometime. Nothing particularly special there, just a guy that's really good at being sneaky. Most games I play in tend not to care about stealth or subtlety in general, so I've somehow never played one in the past decade. Hopefully, an opportunity to change that will arise sometime.

In most games I play a character made for that game. Maybe take some things from an existing character and tweak to fit. Probably the only time I didn't was when i played Lost Mine of Phandelver. Don't really think being on-theme mattered much in that game.

Back in the day I've had a friend, who played this guy. He was a wizard school dropout and a huge chuunibyou. One day he decided to dress up in black armor, put on a spiked helmet and name himself after a random mangled latin word he half-remembered from a lecture. Thus was born the evil overlord lord Gastron, who set out into the world to build his evil empire.
Immediately he met our characters - the actually evil party, who decided to make him our leader and humor his delusions, because we've thought it would be funny

The campaign fizzled out after like 3 sessions, so we didn't get far, but I've always wanted to emulate him and play that character myself

Oh I had not noticed, thanks. Yeah I guess if you're going for historical accuracy it would be a red flag though modern (post 5) DnD stopped caring about that. Largely as a result of Californian influence, I would assume
>>
>>97235028
Hopefully, your local tavern wouldnt effect you much, unless it is a particular old or quirky tavern with some noteworthy characters or history you can include in a game. Just plopping it straight into you game 'as is' might not be a good fit though.

Regarding OP's pic, Maybe the DM lacks experience of the world outside their town, of history or of the many, many fantasy genres and settings, or is just unimaginative, so just bases their game on the limited things they know? The majority of people are like this, hence why the publishers target them with OP's pic - it isnt to make a good game, but to make one that sells their product to the biggest market. Stuff like OPs pic is the McDonnalds or Greggs of the world. Doesnt mean you have to serve that to your players, as Good DMs know how to mix up elements than the mass produced shit to make finer offerings.

By the way, Merry Christmas.

You sound as if you try to include more what some retarded marketing executives choose in a brainstorming meeting though, so I raise a tankard (oldy worldy cup) of mead (oldy worldy drink) to you. Keep up the good work.

Everyone I know who watches Fatt Coville videos is a fucking terrible GM. I've never fully watched one and I am widely considered the best GM out of all 3 groups I'm part of. I am regularly requested to run campaigns. People borderline fall asleep in the games others run. There's also no tension because they know that these Coville acolytes will fudge rolls until all PCs survive the battle.

If you're a good GM, it's an inmate talent you can hone over time. You're born that way. If you aren't, then no amount of shitty advice is going to make up for your lack of talent. It just is what it is. This idea that everyone should "try" DMing is retarded. The idea that anyone can be good at it? lolno. Its like some fat divorced on who suddenly decides he's gonna become a famous author. Fat chance. Most people fucking suck at GMing. Hell, most of them suck at playing, but at least in that case the game depends less on them.

>Play online with no video, they can't read your body language or know what you're doing if they can't see you
>Roll hidden so they don't know what's being rolled
>Don't tell them the difficulty of a check when they roll
It's very, very easy to fudge dice or numbers. Shit, I make half the shit I roll for random NPCs up on the fly using average modifiers for what the NPC would have, I let enemies with 1 HP die instead because my players have no fucking clue and no sane individual would notice the difference, Shit I'll roll encounter tables and if it seems like it's going to be annoying just fucking lie about that. It's incredibly easy to fudge dice, numbers, or just ignore rolls.
>>
>>97235121
NTA but it's a game about make-believe. You're telling a story together and everything the GM does should be in service of a more interesting story. If it's more interesting to let the filler random encounter combat end early, good. If it's more interesting to realize "oh shit I underestimated the party better slap another 50% extra HP onto this boss" or "I better give him a second phase because they curbstomped him since I didn't realize they were just built different" fine. As long as everyone at the table is having fun who gives a shit?

And here's something: Not everyone enjoys what you do. I know! You have autism! Sorry for your loss of humanity.

a lot of the tips in picrel are neat, but they make me realise how much i hate 5E as a system. all these little hacks are things you just don't NEED in a better ruleset.

one of the tips is something like
>if the players are finding the dungeon too easy, put eight goblins in the next room instead of five, or add in a goblin warlord.
and that's the kind of d20 shovelware shit i've always hated. punish the players for finding solutions. YOU know what's fun: put an anti-magic field on that locked door so the wizard can't just use a knock spell.

i don't want a game world that 'cares' about me. fuck your quantum ogre, just draw a map and place things on that map.

What are some things that retired adventurers in double-digit levels could get up to in a city?

I have an idea for a faction for the next chapter of my campaign being built around five such figures who hold different forms of formal or informal power in the same city, and are still on friendly terms with each other. Each of the five has a successful business operation or other field of influence which may or may not be related to their class abilities, and they can call upon each other for assistance if they run into problems of any kind.

They earn it, but (in 1st ed) they then end up giving it all to a class trainer in the local village or town. (1st ed) Adventurers were dirt poor, it's the Class Training Schools that are rich. (It's a wonder why 1st ed adventurers even go searching in dungeons for scraps, when they can just rob the local training school)

>It was my understanding with the Explorer -> Pioneer change that it is the intention to turn Historic into Legacy and Timeless into Vintage or am I wrong in that assumption?
You are wrong. Entirely different formats. Historic has a lower power level than Modern, let alone Legacy. Fetches and most relevant free spells are banned. Timeless is closer to Vintage, but they likely won't be adding the power 9 any time soon because they'd shake up the format too much.

I like where this is going. Other thoughts:
>Large-scale farming would be difficult; smaller communities would likely have "village hunts" whenever a monster showed up, while larger communities would probably have dedicated slayers, either as traveling professionals or an actual military
>Doing anything in the sea would be dangerous, as larger monsters could be anywhere and damage ship hulls fairly easily while being nearly impossible to defend
>People will find ways to make use of monster corpses and byproducts (eat monster meat, use monster slime, concoct monster poisons, show off monster trophies, etc.)
>Settlement defenses vary based on what monsters are endemic to the region (e.g. defense against burrowing monsters requires building on solid stone foundations)
>Specialized equipment would exist for killing or deterring specific monsters very effectively (e.g. alcohol-based "thinner" bombs for throwing at oozes to dissolve them to death by reducing their viscosity, large portable bells/gongs for ruining the hearing of creatures that rely on sound, etc.)
>Societies would progress slowly since it would be difficult for a country to reach a state of safety and security where it could support scholarship and research; once such a country emerges though, it might progress quickly due to all the innovations associated with funding warfare research
>For living monsters, they'd need to be able to reproduce fast enough and on few enough resources to be a consistent threat; humanoids would exterminate them within a matter of centuries otherwise through violence and starving them out (this part is irrelevant if monsters spawn through magical means)
>If undead exist, most cultures would have funerary rites that destroy the body (e.g. cremation); most undead would come from bodies humans couldn't destroy
None of this considers any magic that a society may or may not have, or that monsters are anything other than innately hostile to human life.
