>Khorne Cults

A cabal of populist demogogues outwardly opposing each other whereas in reality their actual goal is to poison the classes against eachother so that social discord can turn into bloody revolution which can then eat itself.

A secret society of military officers and political advisors who believe that war is not only beneficial to the Empire as a society but wholeheartedly think that without keeping the proverbial sword sharp at all times the Empire risks succumbing to its many external enemies. Anyone arguing for peace is therefor an internal enemy who naturally needs to be culled.

Bored and overly comfortable people start a fight club that gets out of hand.

A bunch of bandits, thugs and mercenaries come to realise that all they really want from life is to spill blood and beging to secretly organize in order to maximize as much of it as possible, be it through keeping their ears to the ground for any up coming merchant caravans that can be ambushed, or steering organised crime into gang warfare.

A group of Witch Hunters get a bit too into hunting down wizards and the bloodshed that follows.

Ah, I see. I too have been entertaining the notion of putting one allthough a lvl 4, on a Flying Carpet.
>>
>>97286391
That's a bit expensive sadly I think. A level 1 with just fly around devolve/viletide is about right for the cost.
Looking at hauberk, this is how I'd run it in beastmen. Oh, drop general. I just threw this in an empty list to build it.

Decon depends on what kind of bomb it is. A "normal" nuke is relatively clean because it's just trying to make a big boom and any "sticky" radiation would be because you've got materials that absorbed radiation on you. Literally hosing off the dirt and grime covers it unless you used a particularly poor choice of paint and stood around in the hot zone for a long period of time.
If it's a dirty nuke throwing intentionally spicy dust all over you, then all bets are off and you should probably make everyone wear their space suits before you enter the mech bay.

>>97285825
Mechs can be fully environmentally sealed (they can operate on airless moons and worlds with toxic atmosphere), and heavily armored enough that radiation shouldn't be leaking in. Of course, that might change if your head armor takes damage.
According to the rules for toxic (radiological) atmosphere from TacOps, mechwarriors, BA, and crew of environmentally sealed vehicles can operate normally, but any time the mech takes damage to the head or the vehicle takes any damage, it must pass a breach test as if avoiding flooding under water, and on a failure the crew is instantly killed. BA need to roll to avoid dying from radiation exposure every time they suffer damage.

why are many creators so afraid of making a setting with napoleonic wars era technology?

Turnip28 solves the issue of having to paint ten thousand slightly different uniform varieties, each with more fiddly detail than the last. But in terms of technology it leans heavily into the medieval as much as the Napoleonic and so might not be what purists are looking for.
>>
>>97285005
Specifically technology? Having done this myself, I can tell you.
Napoleonic tech is a level where armchair inventors think they can just steal a march on the enemy. Cartridges, explosive shells, repeating firearms, steam ships, ironclads, telegraphs, napalm, rocketry, anaesthesia, antibiotics, etc. Once you have pre-industrial tech then chances shoot up that some dipshit will try and go full Dr Stone and there's no effective genre guardrail against it. Even bad players know you're not supposed to do it in D&D but they will try in later periods.

Wanted to talk about advice on GMing, settings you prefer, and styles or issues you as a GM have. I generally tend to prefer dark fantasy or sci-fi settings rather than trying something a little different.

I also tend to have a style, depends on the system though, where i have a combat heavy session or two and then a more intrigue/exploration focused session. I have been working on how to better balance games I run, but trying to tie that to timing a game session gets tricky at times.

Another issue I noticed is that puzzle solving or investigative games can be a lot harder for a player to get into the mindset for than the dm. It is easy to think everything you planned makes sense when you thought it out in your head but the players might not have the same line of thought.

Puzzles with specific solutions are stupid. Just put big-ass obstacles in the way of your players and roll with whatever zaney bullshit they invent to "solve" it. Don't even worry about having a solution planned. There's a giant impenetrable wall. See what they do. They'll go kidnap a griffon and fly, hire sappers to dig underneath, or raid an enemy army's camp to get a siege tower. Wind them up and let them go. You don't have to worry about "puzzles."
>>
puzzle solving breaks most D&D players
>>
>>97276278
My issue is that even with an open ended basic puzzle, you get two people at the minimum arguing about how ever idea is stupid and would not work despite the dm seeming thrilled someone finally thought of the solution.
>>
>>97283720
They have been trained to expect penalties for wrong answers, whether in a game context or not: "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt."
Instead try explicitly punishing inaction. For every minute that no one tries anything new, the situation gets worse.
>>
>>97283800
The arguments honestly even continued as I had monsters spawning more and more to attack them. Some players just get really stubborn over it.

Previous Thread: >>97090196

Welcome to /un0/, an RP thread for playing a World of Darkness/Chronicles of Darkness Hunter. For any OOC questions about WoD/CofD, check the official general. >>97224887

Rules:
>We are acephale. There is no storyteller, we are not a quest.
>This thread is based primarily but not exclusively in the nWoD/CofD game Hunter: the Vigil. However, Vigil is defined by being highly setting agnostic, with a system for creating entirely custom monsters that do not exist in other WoD/CofD games. Thus, you have significant freedom in what you want to play and what you want to hunt. Feel free to play a member of the Society of Leopold, or a member of the Lucifuge hot on the tail of a Lasombra.
>Namefagging is encouraged but by no means mandatory.
>Keep in mind that even highly experienced Hunters typically only have fractured pieces of the puzzle, and every table has their own canon. The night is dark and full of misinformation.
>/un0/ is conceived of as an experimental end to end encrypted program that is very hard to compromise, retains very little data and purges that data regularly. Please play an actual Hunter.
>Spoiler any OOC discussion.

Happy hunting.
Unless this thread somehow takes off like a rocket, this will be the last un0 thread for the foreseeable future. Towards the end of the thread, please give your feedback in regard to these shorter, limited run RP threads.

I'm just bitching. I managed to have an uneventful Christmas.

>hopefully the others don't bother ya.
Now that definitely won't be happening. I'm no vampire expert, but I got a cellmate who knows them a bit better than usual. He says that vampires come in two flavors: Smart with a low profile and loud, aggressive, and stupid. The former basically never make it on Hunter's radar and if they do by bad luck, they prefer to just wipe our minds and move on. The latter make up a good 90% of the ones hunters actually fight, and trying to turn a whole New Years party sounds a lot like the latter. I'll be seeing them again.

Then you become a cultist, and possibly a mad scientist archetype. You are provably entering the as-yet uncharted territory of a field that mankind has only ever previously accidentally dipped their toes into but now may access by means of apprenticeship/the scientific method, respectively.

Your character conflict becomes a combination of social and financial isolation as you struggle to relate your new realizations to others with less flexible mental grounding. This carries with it a painful reality of how easy it is to fall into moral and ethical decay when the promise of each new discovery unraveling some prior assumption about life finally hits home, and you stop seeing society and psychology as solid, immutable forces that cannot be bent with sufficient genius.

Ultimately, those who delve into the eldritch truth must struggle with not losing sight of everything else.

If the difference is literally only a +1, it's not a feature valuable enough to be worth arguing in favor of.

But you're rather disingenuously ignoring the fact that most martial weapons from Pact of the Blade and Bladesinger will be Strength-based, with the warlock or wizard not having any reason to have 16 Strength. So the bonus here isn't just the difference between 16 Dex and 18 Int/Cha, but also the gap between fairly substandard finesse weapons and the solid Strength-based options.
>>
>>97286163
>Bladesinger
Bladesinger can't use two-handed weapons with bladesong, so there's little to no reason to not simply use a Rapier or other Dex options.
>Pact of the Blade
The 2024 rules would require a Warlock to have 13 Strength anyway in order to use any Heavy Strength-based weapon, which are the only thing you'd be missing out on. Not much more investment to go from 13 to 14, at which point it's a difference of +1 between that and 16 Charisma.

>it's not a feature valuable enough to be worth arguing in favor of.
Likewise, it's not a feature impactful enough to complain about being bad design. At least, not if the complaint is purely that a subclass or optional feature is making a melee variant of a class 5% better with melee weapons than they would be if that feature didn't exist.

I wish we could actually determine which of these two things was most often happening:

1) new players are learning which gangs are "originals" and are specifically making the decision to play Enforcer/Squat/CGC to somehow distinguish themselves as fresh unbiased players

2) new players aren't really doing the research to even know which gangs are originals, and Enforcers/Squats/CGC just legitimately have the most widely-appealing aesthetics of all the new designs

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere. And as we enter this happiest and newest of years, remember: 2e was never an old-school game, bait is for reporting, and fish is for smoking! Happy new year, grogs!

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

As far as making a setting goes, I recommend not fleshing out everything before you start. Give yourself an aesthetic you're aiming for (mine is "somewhere between Tolkien and Conan by way of Frazetta"), decide what sort of biome you want to start the players in (frozen north, deep woods, coastal region etc.) and hammer out the rough shape. At least one major city if appropriate, maybe some hamlets and villages, key landmarks. Then establish some basic stuff regarding political things like rulership and antagonizing forces. I feel that things move much more smoothly if you just let things develop organically though you may prefer a more rigid method. Beyond that, just go for it! Sit down and start putting stuff to paper. I'm sure you'll have something great shaping up before you know it.

Also, I second Wilderlands of High Fantasy. The booklet can be a bit difficult to parse but it's fantastic for stocking hexmaps.

I really like LL. I would like to pick up a copy but don't really have the need at the moment as I don't play B/X. I may pick up 2E when the physical book releases.

If you don't know how to compile c++ code then maybe you shouldn't be in the hobby.

Also, hello!

>2e labyrinth lord.
I didn't even know this was coming out. I thought the main creator retired from making stuff. Looksl ike he is moving away from b/x and ogl in general for 2e.

From what I saw last time I looked into it, it seems that LL 2e is gonna be bollocks, sadly.
