Although I'll give you pathfinder's patrons lean towards the more distant and mysterious rather than the kind that has a chance to breath down your neck.>>97813494It also makes sense that witch and warlock would get mixed up in localization considering warlock is often the term for a male witch and witch hunting people thought all magic came from pacts with the devil anyways.
>>97826796Honestly Oracle? Is probably the closest to a Warlock. You aren't making a pact but you are getting fucked around with.
>>97826527This one's good but frankly the most busted shit in that book are the benefits of the Order of the Chain. At 8th level they get a 2 action activity thats basically slam down but for grapple. Except if you use a flail or a spiked chain, you upgrade successes to crits on the grapple. And then at 12th for another feat they just get to ignore crit fails on all Grapple checks. Oh and also once you have someone grabbed, if they fail to Escape they actually crit fail instead (so they cant try again until their next turn) and if they crit succeed (which would let them move away for free) it gets downgraded to a pass.Paizo really arent beating the allegations of not playtesting this shit. And it stands out even more because the other hellknight options are meh, except the one that lets you be a peeping tom.

Been thinking about roads again.
>>97826060>Any good ways to explain the difference between a mortal and a monster in your fantasy setting?I have three different types of soul, the aetheric soul of mortals, the elemental animus of elementals (elementals that have become self aware/distinct "races" essentially) and I forgot what I called the liminal/fae version. So "monsters" would be different from mortals on a fundamental level. Although mortals can become corrupted or otherwise changed into monstrous forms so I guess the distinction isn't so clear cut in all scenarios.
What are your in world slurs? Do elves call dwarfs diggers?
>>97827264Race based slurs aren't really impactful or all that insulting/offensive in my setting. Like the Blooded might refer to "lesser" peoples as stock (as in livestock, you know, because they literally feed off them or use them for their utility). But people are generally more concerned with what the blooded do, not what they say. There are still stories from before the Apex was revived, when powerful blooded did whatever they pleased in their domain, including horrific fleshcrafting and unethical experimentation. So just being referred to with dehumanizing language is basically nothing. Fera will refer to humans as hairless or baldies, since fera are covered in body hair. But it's generally seen as a childish insult with no real impact or venom behind it.Lizardmen will occasionally call the other races apes, but again there is no bite behind it.People got more serious shit to deal with then fantasy racism. Hell, to the people in Centennial, comments about piss and shit are FAR more offensive to them.Meanwhile to the people of Soul, blasphemy in general and especially blasphemy against their main god Sol, are fighting words that will get you killed. They have zero tolerance for it.

>>97827229In the book we are told directly about 3-4 Martian war machines (out of a total force of around 50 or so) that get taken out by military actions. They do poorly against Ironclads, but mince infantry. They don't die to the flu specifically. In some versions they actually start getting decomposed while still living since they are closer to brains with tentacles than a complete organism (they only gain nutrition through blood infusion, for example.) The explanation for this is that it had been an impossibly long time on their planet since they had eliminated diseases and "other morbidities" to the point where they had lost any resistance whatsoeverThe book is absolutely not HFY. The humans we meet are either Delusional Cowards, like the Artilleryman and the Vicar, or well-meaning but utterly helpless like the narrator. The ending with diseases is meant to parallel how European armies of that century had been able to eviscerate native forces but still died in droves to things like cholera (the British in Afghanistan especially had hideous casualties as a result of this even well after the causes and methods of prevention were known)
HFY would never be produced by the /tg/ of today. Regardless of quality or subject matter, nu/tg/ is far too bitter and irony poisoned to create anything. You're all a pack of mewling pisants who smugly smack their lips and chortle like drowning seals at the idea of putting anything of yourselves into the world. You're the same smug cunts that cry "the Ballad of Edgardo was never good". This board is a pale shadow of its former self, filled with bitter dregs and a million generals that output nothing but whining and condescension. I liked the Drake Macdougal story.

Attention. I have read nightbane. I think its actually very good!
>>97823805Im sorry, but that looks like an adult diaper. She is wearing a ballistic duraplasty brief.
I really love hex tile games so I made one where cities are dice (to represent the size) and you draw tiles from a random bag like Carcassonne and place them according to rules (like you have to contribute to existing forests or mountain ranges on the edge until they're a certain size, before you can start a new one). The game was very visually and tactilely satisfying to me, which is important since it's being played in the physical realm. But the girls, as you can see, are a bit small. So I bought new ones. I haven't painted them yet but I am hoping to add some numbers to them, almost like Catan has. So therein lies my question (and I know I'm leaving a lot of details out, this game is very different from Catan, but it's basically a 4x tabletop hex tile game). My question being:Do people actually like rolling dice in Catan? I think in Catan it's a very elegant way of adding depth to the game. Currently in my game, you roll 1d6 per population of a city, and for each 5 you roll you can get a resource of the tile your city's on, and for each 6 you can get that or an adjacent resource. But that leads to a lot of dice rolling. By the end game you might be rolling 10 pools of dice each with 6 dice, and making decisions along the way. So obviously I want to simplify it. But the question is, do people even like the dice rolling in Catan? Or would they rather the randomness be removed from it?
>>97825007>>97825377I ddint want to hit character limit 5 times over and honestly it's somewhat irrelevant to my actual question. Which was, do you like the dice rolling mechanic for gathering resources in Catan?Personally I think it's the best part of the game. My biggest focus is for the game to be enjoyable to play and aesthetically pleasing. I think Catan is that and that's why it's more memorable to me than other popular board games like Seven Wodners which are probably objectively better designed. >>97825373I will check out Cascadia hopefully while this thread is still alive. I want something easier than Catan with the same meditative joy as Carcassonne, which I played with a girl at a board game bar. But it's a little too shallow to be a full board game. I want something that starts simple and expands. Setup time is a killer for games I think. This game has zero setup time because you build the board as you go, like Carcassonne, but play on it sort of like Catan. No roads though. Just an escalating cost to build cities further away (though you can't build cities right next to each other and wouldn't want to most times.
>>97825373>Best hex tile game I've played in ages is called Cascadia, very clever, might not hurt to check it out.Just took a look at it, trying to find a rulebook or something I can read through, but from pictures of the game it looks like a lot of tiles that are two different biomes. This could be good if I took the time to paint them like that, although I never was a huge fan of how "small" those biomes look, and how oddly shaped. Would allow you to "pick" what resource you get when the number on that tile comes up, assuming I go with that.Any particular mechanics you really like?
>>97826914Basically there are 5 different biomes and 5 different animal types. You place tiles and animals. Scoring is based on animal behavioural patterns, so salmon runs in waterways are worth more points the longer you can make the water way, etc. Its quite simple but has a lot of clever placement. There's also points for the most linked same biome type, etc. More advanced play has different behavioural patterns for variety. Its a really clever game that links placement and theme quite well.
Java's an older eurogame but also good. Its a 3d hex stacking game with area control and height, basically trying to throw the biggest and tallest party.
>>97827206That looks cool. Any mechanic highlights? I'm into games that don't involve dice, but I do also like that element of randomness to throw some chaos into the works. I think choice should go into resource collection, possibly with multiple resource types per hex, but not more than three.>>97827197I might have to see if my FLGS game library has it and take a look, they have a lot of free games people can just play, to encourage people to go there. I already play there and buy drinks / snacks so I wouldn't feel bad looking at their sample copy. Kind of sounds like Carcassone, but with more meeples.
