The problem with racism is that it's a poor substitute for genuine community. It has all the problems of globalism with none of the benefits of communitarianism. Races are too big and faceless to foster genuine compassion and empathy but too fragile and competitive to create peace and stability. Race consciousness is only useful as a stepping stone towards breaking up dehumanizing super states into healthy villages where everybody knows and understands each other. Anybody who says otherwise is either morally or intellectually deficient. Probably both.

If they want to control the hex they should have some some forces there occupying it. Unoccupied hexes have free movement, while controlled ones have rolls you have to do with possible penalties. Minefield, entrenched infantry, vehicle patrols, etc. Good use for some of the support cards too.

Example: Force A controls a hex, Force B wants to pass through it to challenge an objective. Force A has the local air base controlled and marked that hex as a patrol area. Roll for of theyre spotted, and if so roll for attack and damage for each side.

I'm guessing most of the character models are based on real people, probably because the DLCs tried to pull back from the weird Uncanny Valley look Jayden and most of the other characters had in the main campaign. Which is honestly a huge mistake. That's how Clanners SHOULD look. They're weird, genetically altered freaks. Of course there's going to be something off about them. If I was in charge of the art I'd make it a policy to do most characters from photo references but have the Trueborns all done either freehand or collages of different features from various people that fit together weirdly.

I refuse to believe Halo Flashpoint is even a 10th as successful as Mantic claims. In terms of online, easy to find metrics it has:

3100 people as part of its sub(P)reddit.
2100 or so people as part of Facebook Groups.
No one discussing it on Twitter gets many likes/comments/retweets.
No one big or well known talks about/plays it on Youtube.

Yet it's one of the fastest growing and more popular tabletop games to come out recently?
I don't buy it.
I don't hate the system, but I am baffled by Mantic's ability to get away with lying about how successful this game is.
>>
>>97236626
You're incapable of understanding that some of the 80+ million people who bought a halo game might buy some random minis? You realize funko is a thing right?
It's christmas eve hopefully santas can go up the chimney of your asshole and find your head tonight
>>
>>97236626
>fastest growing
Basically just means two people liked it last year and six people like it this year
>>
Despite the atrocious state of the franchise, Halo still shifts merch.

Mantic's challenge is converting casual consoomers into invested wargamers.
>>
Mantic's just lying to try and make itself seem popular and noteworthy. They've done it before, it don't mean nothing.

> ‘Parry: With sword and shield, warriors attempt to deflect
enemy attacks. Whilst engaged in close combat, a model
with this rule that is equipped with and chooses to use a
hand weapon and shield improves its armour value by 1, to a
maximum of 3+.’

Why would it not work with a magic shield? There's nothing ambiguous about this at all, of course it does.
>>
>>97236672
I'd say no because a magical hand weapon isn't allowed for parry to work, unless you have some special rule like Ensorcelled. Also you can't parry with a 2h weapon anyway.
>>
>>97236900
In previous (better) editions, the parry save was explicitly only afforded to a model if it was using a mundane hand weapon and a mundane shield. I say it's inconclusive because GW couldn't be bothered to specify.

Vista edition

>Cyberpunk 2020 vs. Cyberpunk RED?
Cyberpunk 2020 is the second edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG that focuses on simulation gameplay and has a black trenchcoat aesthetic.

Cyberpunk RED is the fourth edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG that is set after Cyberpunk 2020 following the Fourth Corporate War, focuses on more balanced gameplay and is more streamlined but has less content.

You can discuss Shadowrun here too because I also feel bad for those guys.

If you cannot see how useful a skill to turn groups of people or individuals in your fans, and then having those fans do shit for you, you're bad at rpgs, full stop.
>>
>>97234045
Alright, so lets talk about what Charismatic Impact does realistically, using the book examples: DV 8, DV 10 and DV 12 are standardized across the board and are both for making fans and getting stuff from them. The GM is instructed to auto-fail requests that are out of scope, so we'll try to match the descriptions to the letter. We'll assume the maximum rank for a given bracket, just to not calculate things too many times:

Rank 2:
DV 8 - Individual - 40% chance of doing a small favor; providing a meal or transportation
DV 10 - Small Group - 20% chance of showing up invited
DV 12 - Large Group - N/A

Rank 4:
DV 8 - Individual - 60% chance of doing a large favor
DV 10 - Small Group - 40% chance of hanging around and providing food or transportation
DV 12 - Large Group - 20% chance of... to be honest this one is kinda vague, but following the initial pattern, it seems they'll show up

Rank 6:
DV 8 - Individual - 80% chance of doing minor crimes

Yeah so looking at this list Rockerboy is pretty useless until level 6 and even then you only get an 80%-40% chance NPCs will do something meaningful for you. Compare this to an Exec who at rank 6 will have two useful NPCs work for them permanently doing whatever they say along with everything else the Exec gets by that point.

There's no description of what fans are actually like, what their stats are, what they can realistically achieve. Again it puts onus on the GM to figure it out, which can lead to Rockerboy being either really good or really useless depending on how these rules are interpreted and implemented.

>If you can't see how to use that there's no point in me bringing up how ludicrous is to walk up to 6 dudes and say "hey, I want you to go rough up some cops" and have them go "rock on dude" and do it sometimes without question.

Yeah so I can convince a bunch of retards to go get shot. For what reason? Are they going to be capable of actually downing the Cops? Are my fans not just civillians with little training?

Also anything the Rockerboy can achieve through Charismatic Impact could be solved with other skill checks. In my experience players aren't sure how to actually use Charismatic Impact and use it as a catch all social check. Like you could probably just give Rockerboy's a bonus to a few social skills instead of Charismatic Impact and you wouldn't lose too much utility. They're nothing in the rules to say you can't convince a group of people into suicidal fervor with a high enough Persuasion check.

>>

though actually aircraft contemptor sounds pretty shit once I analyze it.
It's 270 points for one contemptor from dreadclaw with paired fists. Just 5A at WS4, that's just 2 basic WS4 tactical marines killed on the charge that you had to wait till turn 2 for... Mathematically it's lucky to defeat one 100 point tactical squad by the time the game ends, rather pathetic. And against WS5 where the 5A is just 1.66 hits, it averages 1 single terminator killed in melee for nearly 300 points and only late game not turn 1.

That's one of the least scary things possible for 270 points. A delayed glass cannon that kills 1 or maybe 2 infantry and has zero mobility to redeploy afterwards and no defenses.

Lemme see if it's antitank at least. Gravis chainfists, drops to a mere 4 attacks for 270 points, S11 armourbane D4, average damage to kratos a respectable 9 wounds (one-turns the kratos 39% of the time) If you can put 2w on kratos with your other guns, it jumps to 76% odds of finishing it. That's quite respectable actually. The only problem is the kratos owner gets told before turn 1 even starts "hey he has a double chainfist contemptor waiting the whole game in an airplane to try to punch your kratos" then he just sandwiches it in the very middle of his army and zero chance of dreadnought getting to it, unfortunately.
>>
>>97228809
In modern military they have rope that looks similar and it's to make losing a limb harder. Could just be other things
>>
>>97236991
the game would really benefit from infinity's system where hidden reserve units are not shown to opponent until they deploy. You get to guess "oh he has 300 points missing, maybe it's some terminators, maybe it's jetpack command, maybe it's an anti-tank multimelta squad" but he has to make the call and won't know exactly what to screen for because his army doesn't get magic x-ray vision inside of your airplanes.

After about 8 years since I last DM'ed a game, I've been asked to run a session.
Unfortunately my books - adnd, 2e, 3e, 3.5, 4e, and 5e are in storage two states away.
And i prefer physical copies. Thanks to critical role and the movie DND books have gone up in price which is weird.
>4e books are ~10-15$ now.

Is it viable to run 4e in 2025? I don't remember hating it and I still remember some home rules to streamline combat to speed it up a touch.
Does anyone have suggestions for 1-3lvl adventures or campaign settings?

4e had a number of issues. Massively bloated baseline monster HP. The At-Will. Encounter, Utility, Daily ability structure while I think a great evolution was hamstrung by a lot of the later abilities just being slightly better versions of lower level ones and a general sameyness that wasn't addressed until the Power of X books. A lot of floating - or + 1s that come and go every round makes keeping track tricky. But if you are just gonna run a single session then had them premades that around around level 3 or if it's a small say 3 or 4 part adventure then start then at one and level thenm when they reach each part so they can experience it and you get more monsters to throw at them. A lot of the early adventures aren't very good out of the box imo and need a lot of work to bring them up to snuff. They made one or two "Dungeon Delve books" that had an sortment of premade dungeons with paper thin reasons for the party to go loot them. You could just string some other together with a more unified "plot".
>>
>>97235255
Look, I love 4e, and it is incredibly easy to run and play in 2025.
But running it purely from physical copies is less than ideal. They don't include the errata, several useful books are unavailable, and the online compendiums have everything in one place for easy reference. It can be done, just make sure you use MM3 math for the enemies and have the errata handy. Buy what you can and print the remaining books, they are all available online for free.
The generally recommended adventures are HS1 The Slaying Stone, Reavers of Harkenwold, Madness at Gardmore Abbey, and Thunderspire Labyrinth. For new to 4e players, I also generally recommend Prey for Smiley Bob.

>Im running this for some younger friends (I'm late 20's they're in college) and I plan to give the books away if the game takes off because they're broke kids and I prefer basic fantasy, 2e and 3.5 anyway.
Also I just prefer to have the books to flip through in front of me.

Everyone I know who watches Fatt Coville videos is a fucking terrible GM. I've never fully watched one and I am widely considered the best GM out of all 3 groups I'm part of. I am regularly requested to run campaigns. People borderline fall asleep in the games others run. There's also no tension because they know that these Coville acolytes will fudge rolls until all PCs survive the battle.

If you're a good GM, it's an inmate talent you can hone over time. You're born that way. If you aren't, then no amount of shitty advice is going to make up for your lack of talent. It just is what it is. This idea that everyone should "try" DMing is retarded. The idea that anyone can be good at it? lolno. Its like some fat divorced on who suddenly decides he's gonna become a famous author. Fat chance. Most people fucking suck at GMing. Hell, most of them suck at playing, but at least in that case the game depends less on them.

1) Becouse there are mindless enemies and enemies that sucessed in all their morale checks, so refuses to run away or surrender.
2) Becouse it's wildernes encounter table for whole region, ancient red dragon lair have very little but not zero chance to roll and players in that part of region where can't be red dragon lair, for example they asked trusworthy npc about point of interests around settlemed, so adding red dragon lair in next hex to settlemet is ridicoulous.

If needed, they likely would. It would be quintessential wasteful grimdark and a prime example of the theme of humanity's self-sabotage and wastefulness. There are fewer themes that resonate in real 40k.
>>
>>97236622
Incorrect. Even the Imperium doesn't go that far. The Imperial Infantryman's Uplifting Primer contains instructions for Guardsmen on anointing and field-stripping their lasguns. Astartes are expected to know how to maintain their own gear at least on a basic level, since Chapter serfs, techpriests, and techmarines are not always on hand to assist. Repair cement is part of every marine's standard kit.

has there ever been a more flavourless, boring, and whatever mechanic than the wizard's bonded item? what's the point? i get that it's an extra slot. i guess the idea of that extra slot being stored in your left sock or something makes the class so unique and flavourful? maybe dumb players will be deceived into thinking they are getting some cool unique magic item?

no he's right 100%. paizo's aps have also always been mediocre.

NTA, but he's not talking about Paizo's APs. He's talking about the very concept of a pre-fabricated adventure. That it completely shits on the improvisation and unique storytelling opportunities of tabletop games. Which I'd argue is a very common take for anyone that...never had to GM before.

It is very easy to say creativity is easy to do and have until you actually have to make something for an audience. You just don't get that "oh this is EXHAUSTING to do" feeling until (You) are the one in the GM'ing seat. Not that I am against homebrewing or creating custom campaigns, I do it all the time over spending multiple years running a story that may or may not be good. But I also grown a fuckload more respect to people that make these kinds of adventures and projects things. Fundamentally it isn't that different from buying homebrew stuff (something something tabletop was the OG Paid Mods realm) or throwing in additional splatbooks. An AP is only sacrilege to the concept of tabletop if your idea of tabletop is a very formless, shapeless, aimless experience. Where the very act of doing things together and brainstorming ideas is more important than anything put on paper. That is valid, but so is having a preconstructed adventure that you play as close as possible.

After all, gamebooks like Fighting Fantasy or Queen's Blade have been running rampant for all these years yet no one say they are lesser RPGs for their linearity or pre-constructed ideas running into the control freak tendencies of the average RPG player.

Honestly tho, Perchance kinda disappointed me with many results, as I originally planned the standard bearer to be impaled on a spear, going through his torso, yet it reacted to the prompt almost like Bing, so I had to add some stuff via Google model. So I don't think I'll get anything complex now.
And for the story, I expect Lancel to learn some humility, so I guess some serious beating might serve him well. And I think that begging an elf woman for help would do it too.

Wait, is this a remix of that painting of Ivan the Terrible holding his dead son?

Andris gazed at Uliace, then she said, with her voice tinged with a disbelief.
>You've changed. You no longer resemble the Uliace I remember, the girl I met when I first arrived in this town from the capital. I don't believe she would ever be capable of killing, let alone reveling in it.
Despite the gravity of the situation and her utter unpreparedness for any potential combat, she found herself compelled to go to the site of the battle. Even if all the combatants were human, she felt an undeniable urge to be present.

Meanwhile, Howler's mercenaries were systematically closing in on the lone Sir Lancel, circling him with the predatory grace of wolves cornering a bear. It was abundantly clear that a fair fight was the last thing on their minds. Adding to his peril, several sharpshooters and crossbowmen lay hidden within the surrounding forest, ensuring his back would be their primary target.

so this where all the 3d porn games get their models

I draw them. This is Menhor, he is a wizard.
>>
>>97236366
nta, but generally consistency and lacking the ai made quirks like the piss filter or warped backgrounds.
>>
>>97230620
nowadays for JUST a portrait I would probably go AI honestly. Either the NPC is a bit of a throwaway in which case why bother searching for one that might be hard to find with the right tone that I want but can be easily put into a prompt, or because it's an NPC that I want to control some of the finer details of and don't want to settle for 'close enough'

I’m running a low fantasy game, and social advancement is gonna be a thing. So the PCs are gonna be rubbing elbows with a lot of noble families as they make their way into high society. I’m just asking for NPCs and ideas.
Most of the nobility are humans, but a few are half-elves and halflings.

Read Pendragon 5e for ideas, as it's one of the best genuinely medieval systems out there and it focuses solely on playing as nobility.

Any families/NPCs y’all can come up with?
