So, how do 2e and 3e Infernals compare now that the dust has settled a bit? And what do you think of the 3e Signature Infernals compared to the 2e ones?
>>
>>97264783
3e is more constrained in a lot of areas, at least in terms of how you interact in a practical manner. Like if you go toe to toe with a Solar, he's more than likely going to beat your ass at actually achieving the goals you set out to do. However, you do things in a weird, wacky woohoo way that tends to inflict collateral (literally or figuratively) in place of sheer effectiveness. You do have a few really interesting trump cards that are harder to deal with, but you're no longer changing the type of game that's being played.

I don't remember any of the signatures
>>
>>97262566
>"Well it'll give mortals a way to attack long distances" which honestly how do you even argue
You remind the retard that bows and other ranged weapons already exist.
>>
>>97264668
Some people from the Realm are obviously irreverent, similarly to, say, how people in the Middle Ages weren't always good Catholics and might outright war with the Pope. Catholic Church was still a big deal in the Middle Ages, though, as is Immaculate Order in the Realm. A Solar appearing on the Blessed Isle and trying to get people to help him would be like Satan walking into a medieval village and going "Hey, I might be Satan, but I'm actually a good guy".

>>97264674
Immaculate Order offers education, charity, protection from rogue spirits, spiritual certainty and comfot - which actually does matter to people - rules and social pressure that keeps the worst excesses of the Dynasty more or less in check, and also monks frequently demonstrate against behavior of the ruling class thhey find immoral, inappripriate and un-Immaculate and sometimes side with peasants during peasant rebellions. The Order does plenty, and the setting in every edition is written with the assumption that people on the Isle do, by and large, take their faith seriously. As I said, it's obviously fine to change that if something else fits your game better, but it's a big change, and the default setting is still one where people, inlcuding Dragon-Blooded, genuinely believe in what the Immaculate Order teaches. Go read the sidebar "Constructed Belief" on page 70 of 1E's Exalted: the Dragon-Blooded

>>97264723
Realm's peasants obviously have a raw deal compared to modern-day Western world, but they're no worse off than peasants anywhere else in Creation. Which is not great because peasants in general aren't in a great position, but it's not like the Realm's an uniquely or even particularly terrible society for its own. Now, with social Charms a Solar obviously can swing pretty much any mortal to his side, but just starting glowing golden on the Isle and expecting peasants to decide that this guy is cooler than their current lords wouldn't work in the canon setting.
>>
>>97264945
Given that exalted are duper strong they could make crazy compound bows with absurd ranges too

Welcome to /wbg/, the thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games.

Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art. Please remember that dialogue is what keeps the thread alive, so don't be afraid of giving someone feedback or post whatever relevant input you might have, cunt!

>mutual self-interest
There is no self-interest with Deep Ones because the end point is destruction of humanity.

>They were accepted by the whole of society
So why did they destroy the town and killed the people in 1846? That's how the mutual interest looks like.

>does not make them alien
Then there is nothing alien at all. The Alien from the Ridley Scott's movie is just a typical predator, you can find them all around the world. Just your typical crocodile.

And yeah, Aztecs and Spanishards were pretty alien to each other. And up to 90 % of the native people died after the invasion, although mainly due to illnesses.
>>
>>97264841
>It is like totally honest hooking on drugs.
People do not generally pay you to take drugs, and indeed the problem is people like taking drugs too much. It is actually just analogous to totally normal sex work/surrogacy/arranged marriage/etc.

>Modern mentality killed all the thrill. "We are friends with everybody now, even if they normally want to kill us" or "that's your typical alienated lizardman whose mental processes are the same as of an American basedboy".
You think the only two options that exist are inimical to human existence and American basedboy because you are an ideological xenophobe. You are cringe and retarded. People with autism or schizoid personality disorder have significantly different psychological processes from the norm, they are not evil, and it's perfectly possible for them to work together with other different people. The idea that people who are very different from you naturally must be your enemies is a product of your tiny walnut-sized brain.
>>
>>97265100
>There is no self-interest with Deep Ones because the end point is destruction of humanity.
Literally what the fuck are you talking about?

>So why did they destroy the town
They didn't.
>and killed the people in 1846?
Half the people. As in half weren't killed. Sounds like a civil war.

>Then there is nothing alien at all. The Alien from the Ridley Scott's movie is just a typical predator, you can find them all around the world. Just your typical crocodile.
The Deep Ones don't act as predators preying upon humans. If they did, you might have a point. Unless you don't find crocodile psychology alien.

>And yeah, Aztecs and Spanishards were pretty alien to each other
Now you're equivocating. If your standard for alien psychology would apply to other humans, then how does it differ from an "American basedboy"?
>>
>>97265179
>People do not generally pay
People generally make money on your habits, and especially those habits which could cost your life or health. That's not win-win situation for both parts.

>because you are an ideological xenophobe
No, because you are an uneducated basedboy. Read some books about actual history and actual social interactions between different cultural groups. If you make a basedboy pseudo-historical setting, when even nowadays in your fucking country people kill each other because of some ideological and alienated hatred, then you are just stupid. I didn't say that they are evil, maybe you are evil (but no, you are just stupid). When you eat your fucking chicken on dinner that doesn't mean that you are evil toward chickens, idiot.
>>
>>97265278
>People generally make money on your habits, and especially those habits which could cost your life or health. That's not win-win situation for both parts.
Then it sounds like the humans are the ones who are taking advantage of the Deep Ones, as they are the ones receiving the money (gold) in exchange for indulging the Deep One's habits (fucking human women).

>No, because you are an uneducated basedboy. Read some books about actual history and actual social interactions between different cultural groups. If you make a basedboy pseudo-historical setting, when even nowadays in your fucking country people kill each other because of some ideological and alienated hatred, then you are just stupid. See, this is exactly what I am talking about, you are an ideological xenophobe. The alien could have literally any trait but it's different so it's intrinsically bad. You're fucking retarded. Americans and Japanese engage in mutually beneficial trade today, and have for the past 80 years, but that doesn't count as "actual history" because that's only when different groups are violent, not when they cooperate for mutual benefit.

Recently I was thinking about alternative combat systems.

I remember someone talking about instead of HP the payer has a Jenga tower and he needs to remove peaces once hit, the skill is to remove peaces without the tower collapsing

So I started thinking.
For example what if the combat somehow involves cups and balls?

Instead of a D20+modifier nonsense why not change it up? Why not give a player 10 balls or legos or whatever and to win an encounter the player needs to land 2 balls in 1 cup?

There can be variants of this like a super hard encounter demands the player lands all 10 balls or what about reducing the size of the cup with the difficulty of combat?

What if we implement a fate system from Talisman for the players? What if legendary bosses have something like that for themselves? And can negate the players victory?

What if different monsters use different "balls" like for example some bone golems will be you throwing legos into cups and zombies are aluminum balls while naga can be gummy bears? That actually makes the monster feel different and not a copy pasted set of numbers. Also the different aerodynamics of these "balls" are part of the fun.

Why the FUCK is his power armor broken? The Badab War was 100 years ago. This dude leads a legion-sized band of space marine pirates and is one of the wealthiest and most powerful space marine lords in the setting, on par with chapter masters of the first founding chapters.

WHY THE FUCK WOULD SOMEONE NOT HAVE FIXED HIS POWER ARMOR. Does GW even know their own fucking setting anymore?

>>
>>97264090

Yeah, but we were talking about scale-creep. My point is that the reason Ork's don't get scale creep, even though they literally have an inbuilt lore excuse for doing so is because GW barely thinks about Orks at all. Unlike space marines that get new ranges and kits three times a year and has done since 1995.
Which was thirty years ago.
>>
>>97258391
I don't think there's very much truth to this. From GW's perspective, it's a great thing if you kitbash vehicles, because then they can sell you two kits instead of one and then even better you'll buy kits that aren't even for "your faction". People often attribute this kind of thing to malice when it's really a case of you can't please everyone.

My fellow fiends, I have come up with an ingenious idea to combat the tremere. If you would please consult the graph...
>>
>>97264947
I've got to report this back to my sire, who will report back to their sire, who will report back to their sire, and so on and after several years one of the inner council will see it and spread the word of this dastardly trap to the rest of House Tremere.
The pyramid is on to your schemes!

This is why “why don’t the woofs ask ancient spirits what they need to do to fix everything?” doesn’t work, those are too autistic and absent minded to help them in a coherent way. Cryptic prophecy is the most straightforward form of communication most incarna and celestines are capable of. Also remember that Gaia had to make an entire changing breed (the moloké) to be able to remember stuff

Did you miss the part where it's a fantasy world with it's own fantasy language called COMMON which is not guaranteed to be English/French? They may not actually say "brigandine" or "studded leather" in universe, that's just what is translated to you as a player so stfu and suck it moron.

Hell, even if. Is it historically justified to call it brigandine in the setting given that it's more associated with adventurers than brigands.

All CWMMP novels are the best of the best of the EU. Sure the RotS novel is good but I wouldn't take it over Labyrinth of Evil or Plagueis or Dark Rendezvous. Plus it technically isn't totally canon since it has shit from older scripts
Also Council aren't retarded, they're arrogant and foolish which Palpatine points out. Too comfortable sitting on their little ivory tower to realize how the galaxy would completely support the Empire at that point in time.

Alien interface organism.

Basically, aliens use custom printed biomorphs instead of space suits, when you come to a new planet its easier to simply copy the template of the existing local life forms and use whatever THEIR evolutionary optimizations are for the local environment than it is to try and solve all of those problems yourself on short notice to keep your true self alive on a planet wildly different than what you were evolved for. If you are a methane-ocean jellyfish creature, life on the surface of the Earth is never going to work very well without massive life support systems and robotics. So instead of that, you whip up a human/jellyfish creature hybrid thats human enough to survive on Earth but jellyfish alien enough that its compatible with your brain patterns and then download yourself into that to walk around on Earth and talk to humans with.

if you are going to do this anyway, you naturally would also design the interface organism to be as broadly attractive as possible to the species you are communicating with, making it more likely that you will be accepted and treated favorably. There are almost never downsides to being considered hot.

So what do aliens talking to humans end up as? Different varieties of space babes. Space hunks might *seem* like an option, but male humans are more likely to feel intimidated by a sexy space man, so that's counter-intuitive to the purpose of the interface.
>>
>>97259986
In that specific example, it's implied they project a mental effect that makes them attractive to whoever is looking at them (since different aliens claim they have traits humans can't see). Tho even in that it's implied they mostly humanish

did you read the PS in its entirety?

regarding the "railroady" part i admit I didn't elaborate enough so here you go, more free advice for you on how to become an OK GM
why did this specific courtyard needed attention of so much guards?
why were all of them looking inside the walls instead of outside?
seems like an unrealistic situation made specifically so the players will not be able to sneak by and instead have to do it the GM intended way, i.e. railroading

I may be wrong but I'm working with the details that were provided
either way not doing what I wrote in the previous post and just going for an autofail is taking away player agency and tells me 1) you are a shit DM, and maybe 2) you really wanted it to happen khm-khm railroad

I'm NOT a shitty DM: Roleplaying should absolutely affect the DC of a check.

>If I decide to open my mouth and spill my spaghetti that makes the check harder.

>If I come up with a great excuse that's fun or convincing, that should make the check easier.

>If the PC just walks up and says "I want my character to bluff the guard into killing himself." I'll him roll for it but the DC is 70 and a nat 20 is just keeping the guard from trying to detain him and call for back up and instead telling him to bugger off.

Being a good DM is playing these things by ear. The player should have accepted the DM saying its impossible because
1. he tried to convince the guard with bad roleplay first not RPG stats and any rolls he makes is to deescelate at that point
2. the DM is the final arbiter of the game and its not really a big deal (hints the player is autistic who has a meltie about something that's a big deal)
3. The DM could have been more diplomatic to get the game moving again, allowing him to roll, but setting the DC so high he will always fail and moving on instead of wasting everyone's time.

Unfortunately if you play with mentally ill or childish people it helps to be the adult in the room.

Everyone I know who watches Fatt Coville videos is a fucking terrible GM. I've never fully watched one and I am widely considered the best GM out of all 3 groups I'm part of. I am regularly requested to run campaigns. People borderline fall asleep in the games others run. There's also no tension because they know that these Coville acolytes will fudge rolls until all PCs survive the battle.

If you're a good GM, it's an inmate talent you can hone over time. You're born that way. If you aren't, then no amount of shitty advice is going to make up for your lack of talent. It just is what it is. This idea that everyone should "try" DMing is retarded. The idea that anyone can be good at it? lolno. Its like some fat divorced on who suddenly decides he's gonna become a famous author. Fat chance. Most people fucking suck at GMing. Hell, most of them suck at playing, but at least in that case the game depends less on them.

You mean the man who died broke and insane, with his art considered worthless and talentless until he died? That's really your comparison for "you're either gifted or you're not", the man who couldn't sell his skills to literally save his life? Jesus christ, how are you such an idiot?

being a good DM/player is mostly attitude.
I've DM'd for people who bragged about having decades of experience and they ended up being annoying problem players and I've DM'd for first time players who had great instincts and were a lot of fun to play with.

most GM advice is common sense that anyone with social skills and storytelling ability will know.

Nah it's about 25 percent attitude. The rest is genuine competence in running the game and making it engaging and imaginative.

>If you have it, you have it. If you don't, you don't.
I think a lot of disciplines in general can look like this, but I think time spent doing something can really help someone that didn't start with it to get it. I think the wrong attitude like that games and art are all about following rules perfectly will prevent someone from improving, but once they find the right attitude then they can learn anything

Also - checked, since you've got dubs, too

And to explain:
Unless human player actively tries to do something about it, 9 out of 10 plays of Bannerlord end with Aserai world conquest due to a whole slew of reasons. Aserai are the local stand-in for Arab people and their top units are Mamluks.

In case of hitting dubs myself:
Dirigibles are commonplace and widely used.

>It's taken them three years to finally release it and mine hasn't even arrived.
You're either stupid or a liar. The campaign ended in November 2023, two years ago, and there have been regular KS updates ever since. Rewards have been arriving regularly for a couple of months now. It's barely even late by Kickstarter standards, since they wanted to deliver in Dec '24 and got delayed by license approvals.

If you don't typically interact with modern decks then I'd consider looking for a community that plays TOSS format, or if possible, Branded/DIFO format. Those are ~2019 and ~2021 respectively, where TOSS is dominated by 4 decks while Branded/DIFO has a better spread. Only problem with TOSS is that it falls under Master Rule 4's restrictions, so a lot of communities that run it will also have those restrictions (they are not good and force you to use link monsters if you want to touch your extra deck).

Anyway, Branded/DIFO is a good halfway point since it has some of the old design philosophies in motion while moving towards newer design choices, and TOSS is alright if you want a solved meta to help break the ice for you.

Because that's what we're being given and creating at this point. An amalgamation of things put together with various other things to make what resembles something cohesive but has little care put into it and is basically haphazard.
In terms of decks we used to call them "piles" IE spellcaster pile. Language evolves and a term to describe such conditions now exists so the term is used for it IE spellcaster slop.
The term can also refer to the input/new cards because they are equally haphazardly designed with a lack of consideration of how they'll interact with the rest of the game with a lack of restriction such as an archetype, type, or attribute lock.
Sure it can be cool but at some point it homogenizes things.

Ironically the term slop is also technically subject to being slop. Because there's no real limit to it's application it can be used wherever and on whatever. Homogenizing language and replacing many exclusive adjectives.
