What game, in your opinion, has the greatest potential for ruining friendships? What game turns your friends into a bunch of Mr. Hyde assholes that start swinging?
>>97221035This game is friendship STRENGTHENING, you dumb fuck. If you are playing with your mate(s), takes to be a fucking retard to go against each other and not against the outsiders. It also takes to be retarded to not have a dedicated "ally" that you can trust with, knowing he won't betray you. Either of you wins, and the other of you will be 2nd, and if neither of you is winning, you can drag down whoever is.This is like TI 101, the bare basics of fucking strategyAnd like many games like this, the backstabber only gets to backstab people once. After that, they are forever fucked, because everyone remembers they aren't trustworthy
Junta.Where you and your friends have to argue over the distribution of stolen foreign aid money, with long interruptions to resolve coup attempts. Great game. Will destroy friendships.
>>97232577My wife, brother in law, and a third accomplice absolutely broke junta. B-i-l and wife hoarded assassin cards, the, the remaining four of us could not gather enough resources to plot a solid coup, they dodged the handful of assassination attempts we were able to draw, and despite their own last minute infighting, they held together long enough (and broke our backs so well) that they couldnt recruit us as end game allies with any real use.Great game though, found it hilarious to open up the rulebook and see the sample names in how assassinations work all match players in my east asian game group (who are all fantastic snakes). They got a kick out of that in the group chat.
>>97222472I know that someone somewhere has made a mario party traditional game
>>97221035Coup has stretched a couple friendships.Risk, if you play it with the optional 'diplomacy rules', can break friendships (especially if you stab them in the back).

What are some things that retired adventurers in double-digit levels could get up to in a city?I have an idea for a faction for the next chapter of my campaign being built around five such figures who hold different forms of formal or informal power in the same city, and are still on friendly terms with each other. Each of the five has a successful business operation or other field of influence which may or may not be related to their class abilities, and they can call upon each other for assistance if they run into problems of any kind.
Since you're obviously talking about D&D where even reaching second level as an adventurer means you've made more money than the average commoner will see in his entire life, these people are probably going to be too wealthy to care about anything besides engaging in unspeakable acts of hedonism.
They'd probably have their own "games" they play with each other that ends up involving the citizens of the city. From staging fights or bar brawls to couping each other for fun or disguising as monsters or villains and menacing the population only to be defeated by one of the others. They're effectively demigods they can do whatever they want, maybe pay dudes to larp with them to try and respark that old feeling of their adventuring days
>>97237367Maybe look at the class titles of the early D&D game? What they did at high levels was baked into the game. Fighters become either wandering adventurers, mercenary leaders, or Local Lords ruling over the lands they cleared/earned, wizards become Archmages that either build a tower or library and spend their time scrying and doing magical research and experiments or wander the earth causing harm or giving aid and advice, Clerics build a cathedral and set up a center of their Faith for worshippers and pilgrims, Thieves set up a Thieves Guild or become spymasters working alongside the Local Lord, Druids become Head Druid of the land, Paladins become Grand Master of their holy order, etc. If they carried on leveling, they could even attempt to become demigods in the end (Istu, Vecna, Raistlin, Merlyn. Zagyn). Or, they could go back to the life they originally came from, doing any trade that makes them happy really. (Homlet had an old mid level Paladin living in one of it's huts)
>>97237768They earn it, but (in 1st ed) they then end up giving it all to a class trainer in the local village or town. (1st ed) Adventurers were dirt poor, it's the Class Training Schools that are rich. (It's a wonder why 1st ed adventurers even go searching in dungeons for scraps, when they can just rob the local training school)
>>97237675>>97237768Yes, 5e. All I have so far is that I want the five to be STR, DEX, INT, WIS and CHA, respectively.>>97238255This is very good. Thanks for the inspiration.

Recently I was thinking about alternative combat systems.I remember someone talking about instead of HP the payer has a Jenga tower and he needs to remove peaces once hit, the skill is to remove peaces without the tower collapsingSo I started thinking. For example what if the combat somehow involves cups and balls?Instead of a D20+modifier nonsense why not change it up? Why not give a player 10 balls or legos or whatever and to win an encounter the player needs to land 2 balls in 1 cup? There can be variants of this like a super hard encounter demands the player lands all 10 balls or what about reducing the size of the cup with the difficulty of combat? What if we implement a fate system from Talisman for the players? What if legendary bosses have something like that for themselves? And can negate the players victory? What if different monsters use different "balls" like for example some bone golems will be you throwing legos into cups and zombies are aluminum balls while naga can be gummy bears? That actually makes the monster feel different and not a copy pasted set of numbers. Also the different aerodynamics of these "balls" are part of the fun.Comment too long. Each has a special ability while on the field (ex. drummer adds protection from targeting, bass player prevents opponents monsters from attacking other band members, etc.). There's also a field spell that can get upgraded that also grants the archetype benefits: club stage -> auditorium stage -> stadium stage, etc.
Have been out of YGO for some time and looking to get back into it casually (just playing at locals for fun). How does this pile look?https://ygoprodeck.com/deck/cubics-676262No sidedeck as I have no clue what my local meta-game is like, ut happy to take suggestions for the big decks (mitsu/dracotail etc)
>>97238363Would particularly like suggestions for my extra deck. I want to emphasise Fusion monsters over links, as I am running 3 Super Polys
>>97238363Cubics are pretty bad even for casual play at locals, so i'd go for blue-eyes instead, it's actually a pretty good product since it gives you a competent deck and a ton of staples to ease you into the game. It's a synchro deck however.

TTRPGs are a social game first and foremost. That means there's unspoken rules that vary from group-to-group, but a common one is "acceptable breaks from sensibility" in the name of game experience or table cohesion. It's the kind of thing that keeps the bitter rivalry between the Elf and the Dwarf largely to amusing banter and not outright PvP. It's an innate instinct: nobody likes to spoil the atmosphere, because that's a large part of the appeal of a good game (alongside the freedom). That being said, there are also times when the group's course of action is patently retarded and you can't meaningfully push back on it without feeling like you'd cause a big fight over nothing (and then feel obligated to keep comrades away from the consequences), or something a character cannot abide has to be "sanded over" somewhat, or you as the GM don't want to cultivate the feeling that you're antagonizing your players by hitting them over the head with "you murdered someone because it was convenient and didn't even take measures to cover your tracks" or whatever unhinged misadventure occurred because something about the player position of the table cause human beings to lose IQ. Have you ever had that feeling? I think I see enough greentexts to think it's common.
>>97236760>No one. The bar is empty as the regular customers left in fear of the suspicious wizard and only the owner remained too nervous to approach him.There. Not hard.
>>97236781>>97236791That's only when you're dealing with sane human beings. The stupid ones I'm talking about will take your insistence that there's nothing there as a sign you're hiding something from them, and insist to the point of being intentionally stupid on checking for signs of something that doesn't exist. That's either when you tell them in specific detail how much time they're wasting, or "pretend" they "outsmarted you".
>>97236791Players might leave the tavern. They are interested in Boblin. Boblin is now either a minion of the important wizard or afraid of the important wizard.
>>97236850>As the players try to leave the tavern and exit the door they find themselves surprised to see the same exact scene before. Try as they might no matter how many times they go through the door the same sight stands before them and the Wizard stares at them.
>>97237225That's just railroading unless being trapped in the bar and finding a way out is the puzzle.
Wanted to talk about advice on GMing, settings you prefer, and styles or issues you as a GM have. I generally tend to prefer dark fantasy or sci-fi settings rather than trying something a little different. I also tend to have a style, depends on the system though, where i have a combat heavy session or two and then a more intrigue/exploration focused session. I have been working on how to better balance games I run, but trying to tie that to timing a game session gets tricky at times. Another issue I noticed is that puzzle solving or investigative games can be a lot harder for a player to get into the mindset for than the dm. It is easy to think everything you planned makes sense when you thought it out in your head but the players might not have the same line of thought.
>>97218634>As far as investigation games go, that tends to work better in dedicated systemsI'm using a dedicated system, is there anything different than normal for setting up?
>>97233945Not only was i clear about it, it was structured this way basically on their request.>>97236121I have one player who is playing an investigator, and has a built in "I'm stuck" mechanic. But he refuses to use it or gets frustrated when I just "give him the answer". Another player also did a few things to effectively put him in contact with a god-like entity with near omniscience, but he also only uses it if he's completely lost.I also do cut in as they're discussing something really wrong with something like "based on x, y, and z, your characters would not make that assumption but instead think something else" and they'll generally agree with this assessment.
>>97236294>I have one player who is playing an investigator, and has a built in "I'm stuck" mechanic. But he refuses to use it or gets frustrated when I just "give him the answer".*fanfare.wav* Congratulations, this situation is no longer your fault.
>>97218290That’s a really interesting style—I never even thought about that. I’ll have to try it sometime. I’m new to GMing, so I’m happy to take any tips.
>>97236294>Not only was i clear about it, it was structured this way basically on their request.Discuss with them why it's not working. Presumably what you're giving them isn't what they wanted, so either you misunderstood or they failed to describe it.

I got a $25 Amazon card for Christmas. Is Ker Nethalas any fun?
>>97180873Well, after Kerk the warrior made it out of the dungeon, he hoofed it to the nearest town (A couple days away.) While he was there, he gathered some equipment and sought out other adventurers to take with him, (Safety in numbers, and all that.)However, as he was looking for other likeminded people to adventure with, he instead found a merchant who'd been assaulted on the road. The merchant explained that he was attacked by goblins on the eastern road, and that his business partner was taken by the little green men. If I can recover his business partner (Or his corpse,) then I will be rewarded a couple hundred gold. I was going to purchase a suit of platemail, but shamefully platemail is really expensive in this town. (Go figure, I'm in the middle of nowhere.)I marched down to the goblin's hideout, but right outside they're using a nest of giant rats as a sort of defense. I actually thought I died to the giant rats because of how I rolled, but then I forgot that when you kill half of an enemy's units that you need to roll for morale. Luckily they ran away after I killed several of them, because otherwise Kerk would be dead... He hobbled back to town and told the merchant, "Look, I'll go back and see if I can find your buddy, but I need more equipment, more help, and a couple days to recover..."
>>97237792Aaaaand he just died to a goblin chieftan. I managed to kill the rest of the goblins in that hideout, but the chieftain was the last foe, and he managed to deal just enough damage to down Kerk.
