TTRPGs are a social game first and foremost. That means there's unspoken rules that vary from group-to-group, but a common one is "acceptable breaks from sensibility" in the name of game experience or table cohesion. It's the kind of thing that keeps the bitter rivalry between the Elf and the Dwarf largely to amusing banter and not outright PvP. It's an innate instinct: nobody likes to spoil the atmosphere, because that's a large part of the appeal of a good game (alongside the freedom). That being said, there are also times when the group's course of action is patently retarded and you can't meaningfully push back on it without feeling like you'd cause a big fight over nothing (and then feel obligated to keep comrades away from the consequences), or something a character cannot abide has to be "sanded over" somewhat, or you as the GM don't want to cultivate the feeling that you're antagonizing your players by hitting them over the head with "you murdered someone because it was convenient and didn't even take measures to cover your tracks" or whatever unhinged misadventure occurred because something about the player position of the table cause human beings to lose IQ. Have you ever had that feeling? I think I see enough greentexts to think it's common.
>>97236850>As the players try to leave the tavern and exit the door they find themselves surprised to see the same exact scene before. Try as they might no matter how many times they go through the door the same sight stands before them and the Wizard stares at them.
>>97237225That's just railroading unless being trapped in the bar and finding a way out is the puzzle.
>>97238503You're right. The wizard definitely cannot have any agency or make decisions which influence the players. This situation is definitely railroading and not a consequence of the PCs actions. Nothing in the game should be able to take actions which affect the players without the PCs consent. How silly of me. Thank you for the correction, anon. I shall mend my ways forthwith.
>>97228087>How often do you feel you have to cater to party retardation?Depends on the group, when I play with retards it's only 80% of the time.If I played with better people I think we could get that down to a 20-30%, even if the party was made entirely of perfect players I don't think that number would be a zero, we're all retarded sometimes, even the Ref.>I think I see enough greentexts to think it's common. Two errors with this by the way, greentexts as a concept are innately exceptional stories, no one wants to read or remembers the vast majority of sessions, because most go normally & even the majority of good or bad ones aren't to the level of good or bad that a greentext post needs to be. Most are highly specialised to that group of individuals too, it's the result of multiple sessions of build up.The other problem is that you think most greentexts are real.
>>97238696>The wizard definitely cannot have any agency or make decisions which influence the players>just let my NPCs trap you in a pocket dimension until you talk to them bro

>>97238306Looking at the wrong section, because it procs on the same mechanics as Turn/Destroy.The situation you are creating is this: could you slap this on a mindless undead to prevent the necromancer who raised it from commanding it, as it works on the same basis? All told, you would be better served taking this to your DM, because there are arguments for and against. I would exercise discretion as 'No', because Turn mechanics are generally their own thing divorced from many of the generalities of the system.
>>97238306thanks, I thought it was probably something like that.>>97238334>The situation you are creating is this: could you slap this on a mindless undead to prevent the necromancer who raised it from commanding it, as it works on the same basis? Also something important I haven't considered. In your opinion what would be necesarry to protect an undead from rebuke/command attempts? I know theoretically Death Ward would work, but that can only target living creatures.
How would you approach using Utterances as magic item Command Words? My own first instinct would be having a modest DC 10+CL Truespeech check required to "just" activate it as a magic item independently of the Utterance from the "conventional" magic having much looser tolerance and some Circumstance bonus for knowing the corresponding Utterance, so relatively light training towards it all but guarantees the "base" magic item effect to avoid wasted actions. Then a function for Truespeech (and Spellcraft?) checks (DC 20+CL+2xUtterance level?) with a table for stuff like reducing the DC by constraining to a singular option within the Utterance or increasing it to work with the Utterance-altering feats.Probably bundle with items designed around this like a Command Word-based alternate scroll or potion to pair with Metamagic Catalyst. Maybe some Perfect Map Wondrous Architecture like Portal-to-Portal Redirect with a Conjunctive Gate Command Word that acts as a password for convoluted teleport puzzle dungeon design or using the Utterance-repeat on Master of the Four Winds to retrigger something....Strikes me that a good "Magnum Opus" for this setup would be an Intelligent Magic Item (thus allowing Evolving Mind) with the "defining" feature of creating a copy of itself as a Permanent spell effect then slapping the copy with Ritual of Renaming to move the "pointer" for the "real" version to the copy, so it's rendered one-of-a-kind because attempting to recreate this alongside what it's to facilitate (probably exploding it with Rebuild Item immediately thereafter) just triggers this effect no matter where in existence you are or what countermeasures you attempt.
>>97238701I would look at turn resistance.Turning is actually not that 'good' in terms of action economy, and there are a handful of ways to increase your turn resistance. To wit, if you are against someone with double your levels, why the hell are you fighting them at all? Such a foe would have plenty of faster ways to take you out than relying on turns, and Command ends if the character dies.Is this a thought experiment, or an actual situation you are dealing with?
>>97238743>I would look at turn resistance.I guess turn resistance is as good as it gets if Protection from Evil doesen't work.>Is this a thought experiment, or an actual situation you are dealing with?thought experiment at the moment, might become more later down the line. But I was mostly just making a small list of spells intelligent undead would value to counter their weaknesses.Like Gentle Repose to maintain their form, Disguise Undead to move undetected, Life Ward to be protected from positive energy(inlcuding things turning from good clerics), Graft Flesh to recover limbs(extremly circumstential to ever be really worth it given how high level the spell is) and Rebuke/Command attempts from Evil Cleric seemed like the biggest weakness to such, Protection from Evil seemed like a potential solution, but it opens a can of worms about necromancy in general like you said.

>>97238359You're ignoring the part where there is a check to actively turn people into fans.
>>97238359Outside of combat you may make a fan of anyone you meet that does not have a negative impression of you with a DV 8 check. This, by definition, means that the odds of getting someone you've just met (that isn't specifically excluded from being a fan) to do you a favor at Rank 4 is 36%.Surprising no one, your impression of Post Malone is bad and thus you cannot be made a fan. Congratulations, you're a perfect model of a Cyberpunk RED NPC.
>>97238396Which requires you to get the ability up to atleast 7 to reliably do so. If not it's another barrier to the Rockerboy being useful, having to pass two checks to convince someone to do something. Thing is I'm not arguing that Charismatic impact doesn't have it's uses and can't be strong, just that the Rockerboy needs more abilities since it's sole ability has alot of overlap with regular Social skills that are much cheaper and designed for the same kind of narrative encounters Charismatic Impact is meant to solve.
>>97238359Did you mean to quote my post here >>97237098 ?If so, then the reason why is obvious: to make the 3x skill worth the investment.A lucky crit on Persuasion could convince an NPC to help YOUR suicidal charge by f.e. leaving a door open or doing something distracting and safe elsewhere, but it took Charismstic Impact for the NPC to join or sacrifice themselves.I know one can argue about it, but fortunately nobody in the playgroup questioned that ruling because it's just an obvious conclusion.Another thing CI did that Persuasion couldn't was to use "small group" DVs to "presummon" NPCs on the location before the action started.
>>97238680Okay, but it's not just that it's a 3x skill, it's a 3x skill that has to be raised to atleast 6-7 to start being useful. Why can't Rockerboys have another ability to fill the void before they hit that cap?I don't think having any of the Roles having a singular ability is good design. There's alot of disparity between Roles in general. I think having Multiple abilities adds alot of utility and there's clear developer favoritism towards the Tech in particular.

>>97237596It's basically the late war variant of the same U-Boot type. The main difference is the removal of the main deck gun (since they usually didn't do surface attacks by that time anymore), an enlarged turret platform to support additional AA guns and the addition of a snorkel to give the boats prolonged underwater time. also, there are some radar devices on the tower that early ones don't have. However, not all boats were refitted, many remained early versions until the end. They also had a special minelayer version and an experimental, but unsucessful variant meant to be an "aircraft trap" with even more guns. But anyway, as i said it's a nice kit and i'm sure Anon will have fun building it.

>>97237435>>97237486So it's a durkon situation. Will durkon intervene on Nale's behalf on the next page?
>>97237435>>97237850I don't think this is as bad a position for Nale as you're making it out to be. He knows he can't take Xykon on his own, but he also knows that the Order's odds on their own are poor as well (not to mention that they can't afford to waste resources on fighting him, and that's without even knowing about the dragon they just wasted resources killing). The Order also has no reason to assume that his goals deviate from their own, even if he himself is obviously untrustworthy. If Nale frames it right he might be able to get them to agree to something seemingly harmless that ultimately benefits him. This could also just escalate into Haley and Roy attacking before Nale can present his case and Nale retreating to rethink his strategy (assuming he isn't intentionally putting the Order on edge as part of some greater plan, who knows) I guess.
>>97237486>Nale's goal is to break the last gatethat's the task he was given, but whether he actually plans to do it for the guys who barged in and threatened him is still unknown
Merry Christmas Elan, your present is your dead brother.
>>97238221Team OotS already know that Sabine is working with the Directors, and their fuckery with Elf's soul directly contributed to the destruction of a gate. It doesn't take many braincells to rub together to figure out that an infernally empowered Nale and Sabine showing up out of the blue probably has something to do with the Directors and their unknown-to-the-team schemes, and these schemes do not align with team Good(ish). When you throw in the fact that Nale is probably going to give away a lot more than he should in the next few strips because he is Nale and can't go 10 seconds without running his mouth, this move is not the best one for accomplishing the goal of blowing up the gate. That said, if I give an ounce of credit to both Nale and Rich:1. This approach might not be the brightest, but it is the sort of narcissistic and questionably thought out plan that Nale has a history of preferring. Not quite as complicated as usual, but close enough to his MO that it feels in character even if it is kinda dumb.2. One of the first things Nale asked to the Directors was whether he would be punished for failure. His overriding concern may be surviving, not winning, and so long as he puts up a good show he may well not care if the Order gets tipped off and does something clever to shut down his inevitable betrayal so long as he survives afterwards.3. If Nale is intending to betray the Directors, then this approach is actually a really good way of fucking over team Infernal without giving away his intentions.tl;dr Yes this move is bad for winning, but it a very Nale style bad way of winning, and Nale may not care or even intend that this is the case.

I feel like this edition has alot of objectively bad things about it and is absolutely where the alot of worst qualities of current editions showed up. But I feel like I prefer playing this edition compared to a lot of previous editions and 10th edition. Its a weird transitional period where there's still a lot of the old units that haven't been legended yet while still having the fucking Primaris lot. Its strange but I don't feel like I'm missing out on much staying on this edition and playing with friends casually instead of going back to playing the current edition.

>>97180873Well, after Kerk the warrior made it out of the dungeon, he hoofed it to the nearest town (A couple days away.) While he was there, he gathered some equipment and sought out other adventurers to take with him, (Safety in numbers, and all that.)However, as he was looking for other likeminded people to adventure with, he instead found a merchant who'd been assaulted on the road. The merchant explained that he was attacked by goblins on the eastern road, and that his business partner was taken by the little green men. If I can recover his business partner (Or his corpse,) then I will be rewarded a couple hundred gold. I was going to purchase a suit of platemail, but shamefully platemail is really expensive in this town. (Go figure, I'm in the middle of nowhere.)I marched down to the goblin's hideout, but right outside they're using a nest of giant rats as a sort of defense. I actually thought I died to the giant rats because of how I rolled, but then I forgot that when you kill half of an enemy's units that you need to roll for morale. Luckily they ran away after I killed several of them, because otherwise Kerk would be dead... He hobbled back to town and told the merchant, "Look, I'll go back and see if I can find your buddy, but I need more equipment, more help, and a couple days to recover..."
