>>97254961Yes both in my top 10, though I'd obviously play marine at 4. Only do normal DS at events due to how long it takes.Similar game with vertical action selection and area control would be empires:age of discovery. Criminally underrated game which has always gone down amazingly well with tense agonising final actions. Currently out of print but there's potential for a new kickstarter (albeit with horrific new art style)
On the spectrum of rubber forehead aliens to complete starfish aliens that are made out of silica and breathe methane, where are YOU specificially comfortable with. Does there come a point where an alien becomes too weird for you to "relate" to in order to include them in your games as playable races?Personally I am fond of aliens that look plausibly like they could have evolved in a different world and have no distinguishable lineage to earth life, even if they share some superficial features.

>>97240164I'm more into the birrin/star wars level of "they're obviously not human, but they're still clearly people"but of course the best pick is human-created genetically-engineered catgirls for domestic ownership/military applications/industrial labor that have gone rogue after the local human population disappeared.

What aliens "should" be depends almost entirely on the role they serve in the story. That said while >>97248952 takes it too far I sympathise with the irritation. It's nice when baselines from completely distinct evolutionary histories bump into each other and find they have more in common than ever more derived "cousins" (To'ul'h = best bros).

What the fuck is up with Benko players online? I play the Half-Accepted variation where instead of accepting the second pawn you go e3 instead. I have heard that this can be a bit annoying to Benko players - well fucking tough. But it's like they make every move in like 1-3 seconds and end the game usually with 2 minutes on the clock. Is it supposed to be some kind of intimidation? Is it they really hate the e3 variation? Do they just know where they want to put their pieces immediately, even though I win more than Iose against this type of person? Is it that it's a bunch of kids playing the Benko? Like what is going on? I wish I could say I don't let it affect me but it is offputting, this feeling like there's someone on meth at the other end. First few moves obviously is fine, still in opening theory, but this relentless speed and aggressive play also, do they think they will end with 2 minutes on the clock and everyone will applaud at this magnificent player? It's just offputting. Chess is supposed to be a relaxing game. Genuinely curious if anyone knows anything about this. See a little of it in KID also.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! >>97230970>>97251047The problem is the concept of Diesel Punk as it's been presented to the mainstream public focuses closer to WW2 because it's more of a recognized period of time. But when you look at the entire period of time it's supposed to represents it's 1910s–1950s. There is a lot that happened in that 40 year period. > 10's and WW1. Mix of different possible enemies because the whole world went berserk. Gremany/Preussia, The Turks, Russia both Imperialist and Communist, France, Britain which includes Canada, Mexico, America, various parts of Latin America and Asia. That's not counting the different groups, Public and Secret, that were fighting in and across stare boarders. The group the Black Hand is considered to be what kicked of the war. Seriously, read about WW1 it's amazing how many countries and groups were fighting each other, it's a wealth of story material.>The Roaring 20's. The Raise of Hollywood, Gangsters, Bootleging, and Federal Police fighting with local Police to see who got the glory of catching them. > The 30's aka The Red Decade and the Great Depression. Economic Collapse, Government dominance, and the publics fascination with Socialism and Fascism (America's Wonder of Urban Planning, Stanlin's Soviet Union, Mussolini's Italy, and the Raise of Hitler's Germany). Drought and the Depression causing mass migration from Rural and City areas leading to cultural upheaval. Chinese, Japanese, Nazi, and Soviet espionage. Soviet back anarchist groups terrifying the public. The return of the KKK roaming rural areas. In the midst of this chaos and Insanity, The Birth PULP, RADIO, and COMIC HEROES! The Shadow, Doc Savage, The Spider, The Green Hornet, Secret Agent X-9, Sam Spade, Flash Gordon, Superman, Batman, Captain America, the list goes on and on. Capable men of means standing up for good and battling the corrupt.Part 1
>>97256237>The problem is the concept of Diesel Punk as it's been presented to the mainstream public focuses closer to WW2 because it's more of a recognized period of time.>Complaining that an era containing the most famous war of all time is thematically dominated by that war in its aestheticI get what you're going for, and I love to see more of the era represented (this is where decopunk shines), but it's kinda hard to ignore.
>>97256237>>97256309This is acknowledged within the aesthetic. There are two acknowledged subdivisions of dieselpunk, with World War 2 as the central divide.>"Piecraftian" dieselpunk is during/post-WW2>"Ottensian" dieselpunk is pre-WW2

>>97249468You've reminded me that I have a shit load of lizardmen I need to paint up for my AD&D group. I should get on that tonight.,
>>97255594There's too much competitive orientated balance in the game, it doesn't have a Warzone bone in its body, the only thing that's Mutant Chronicles about it, is the models. I got a taste of the rules long before the game release and all I can say about it is that it's balanced. But Warzone isn't supposed to be balanced, it's meant to be broken.
>>97255896Yeah, I don't buy that. Being a balanced game isn't what's holding it back, its the fact that its a 20+ year old niche franchise that has been relying on literally 2 guys to develop and promote for the last few years. The only talk I have seen about it, other than the odd painting blog talking about the minis, has been one or two YT channels doing a video or two to show the game off and Facebook posts. It really needs a community ambassador to help show it off.
Drew up my map for 5 leagues after using a generator to get the initial landmass and landmarks. It's surprisingly fun. Haven't done something like this since I was a kid. Also we need to behead whoever came up with the captcha of the dots in squares. I keep forgetting I need to read the prompt.
>>97256068I've been meaning to give 5 Leagues a go. Seems up my alley. Unfortunately most of my larger terrain is with my dad still (he made a lot of it) so I'll need to put together some more unless I want every encounter to take place in a dungeon or campsite.

People simply engaged in good faith more often back in the day. Disinterested tourists have proliferated, oldfags have diminished, and schizos have not only stayed the same in number, but gone deeper into psychosis. Nothing lasts forever.
Why did GW make them chicken nuggets instead of just putting the crotch at the knee like real life exoskeletons?https://www.youtube.com/shorts/EC33gaqQKSI?feature=share
>>97254299THANK YOU. This is a perfect example of the negative effects of flanderization. A newfag thinks "wow a dreadnaught is cool because its a stompy robot with guns for hands" and thinks more of the same is "40k".completely missing the point that the core design idea is that its an armored, walking sarcophagus filled with a tortured quadriplegic zombie. THAT is 40k, but modern GW designers really just don't fucking get it.
>>97254299That would work as a predecessor to a dreadnought. It would be the piloted frame that a techmarine would install the life support system keeping a crippled marine alive so he could continue fighting as a dreadnought. Someone just completely forgot that the dreadnought frames are pretty much lost tech when that was designed.
>>97252723could have =/= should have feel free to make your own threads, that's the idea otherwise check your spam box for your janny application
>>97256095Dreads still serve their purpose as a way for marines to keep fighting as zombies. The idea of using the frame to empower a still very abled marine isn't that farfetched at all and in fact way easier than hooking a brain to command it.If the vehicle is destroyed you might still get a full marine still ready to fight.
This makes sense from a military perspective>Have a powerful vehicle>But only use it for broken marines when it could be a force muiltiplier used by healthy marines. The only stupíd thing is making it a scout with no armor.

>>97255851Whose fucking idea was it to make you do math to get the base price of an item? Is this shit for real?
Is there a "Tom Bombidil" in 40K? A warp god who just wants to be alone and do his own thing?
>>97255851I don't think that's true, I think that's the case for item quality and when you're bartering items you already have for a new thing, but not for the base price of the item. >>97255779I was using the wrong version, so my complaint about the chain weapons is moot, though the rest of the economy is still really strange. Thanks for the heads up though! Appreciate it.
>>97255900Ah, nah I was checking the wrong bit. For rarity it just can flat limit the quantity you can buy in certain locations. The base price does multiply based on quality/flaws, and it effects bartering using the weapons/items themselves as product though.>>97255948Right, right, my bad, was reading the wrong bit.
>>97255926Probably, there are endless warp entities which GW just doesn't have the time to write about, so they focus on the big 4 and whatever else their writers feel like writing. If you want to make a Bombadil-esque god for your game, go for it.
