>Session 1 of buddy's new campaign>It's clear he hasn't read the rules at all and is totally winging it
>>97230753That's unfortunately, but they are trying and if you gently nudge them towards actually reading the GMing section in their system of choice, they will hopefully learn eventually. GMing is fucking hard and even if you are well versed in the rules, it is still something you can only get good at through lots of practice and lots of fucking up.I remember having to fuck up half a dozen campaigns that either fizzled or crashed and burned before I ran a campaign so good that it kept going for 2 straight years.
>>97231610If someone doesn't have the ability to read the rules on their own then they are not cut out to GM
>>97231712They're just over eager. You don't have to handhold them, just strongly encourage them. It would help if you actually talked to them and told them that you have no interest in nannying them through every session.

>>97226093Here is my idea for what I'm using for a fusion setting, but it can work for just Requiem. Tremere are both a Clan and a Covenant. They don't get favored Disciplines, but they do get favored Themes (leaning towards Creation, Destruction, Transmutation) from the blood sorcery book. I was thinking to lean into them being outsiders who forced themselves into Kindred society, they don't do typical Embraces. Instead, they use a ritual to turn people into vampires. Their Clan weakness is they occasionally have to do the ritual again, otherwise they turn into Revanents and their blood bonds start to decay until they can perform it again.Their Bloodlines are created by master blood sorcerers who have pioneered new branches of Thaumaturgy and modified their embrace ritual to add another Theme to specialize in it. It's possible to instead add a Bloodline Discipline, but that is probably rare. The Tremere were accepted into Kindred society because they agreed to teach sorcery to other vampires (they do of course keep the good stuff to themselves). The Covenant is called the Order of Hermes. The Thaumaturgy the Covenant teaches has the favored Themes of Destruction and Transmutation. Admittedly, the Destruction one is mostly because Theban Sorcery and Cruac don't have it as a favored Theme. Non-Tremere Covenant aligned Bloodlines probably have Bloodline Themes instead of Disciplines since they're focusing on magic.

Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! >>97231387To steal from another wargame I've played, one of the factions can 'Evolve'.Each unit has two things they can 'evolve' into. By default the player can evolve one unit a turn, but some abilities let them try to evolve more. For example, their chaff unit has two evolutions- Kill self and turn into a bunch of resource for the rest of the warband- turn into another unit type, but keep the same hpand another unit has these evolutions- gain 1 HP and armour, attack deals significant extra damage under some conditions- gain 2 HP, their other ability increases the damage and push distance a bit.

Flow of gameplayOne of the big goals I wanted to achieve was to make the player's pilot character, and the player's mech feel like 2 halves of a single unit. Which leads me to my idea for the general flow of the game, as far as I'm concerned.Out of MEC activity>sessions or missions or however else you'd want to separate gameplay would start with out of MEC activity>While out of combat, gameplay is more freeform with less rules>Pilot character 'health' is measured in Fate points>Fate points are used to perform activities, and you can lose more if you fail any attempts at something>Losing all fate points means your pilot character is contextually 'unable to fight' (which could mean they're unconscious, wounded trapped, etc)>The player can still participate in the MEC combat, but they'd have to play as some NPC substitute pilot with no bonuses>The general goal of out of mec activity is to gather data or otherwise make the upcoming MEC battle easierPilot and MEC abilities>MEC construction and loadout naturally determines what your MEC is capable of doingComment too long. If you mean broken as in "there is no reason to ever not take this upgrade on everything that can possibly take it", then yes. People are even abusing a loophole to take UF on chaos lords/exalted champions. One guy did that (and took it on marauders and marauder horsemen) and came second at a 2500 point event. A T7 chaos lord with the armour of meteoric iron and the ogre blade riding a dragon is nasty. What we can conclude is that chaos warriors are no longer a viable unit for building a CR-brick, which mean they now only have one role in competitive play, which is being a sorcerer bunker. Go figure, a new chaos book comes out and makes chaos warriors worse. Fun.Semi-related, I wonder if 2500 or 3000 point games will become the standard going forward.
