Anon, washes are the best thing for tabletop-level painting. Just block your colors neatly a bit lighter than you need, then paint some wash all over, magic happens.

What is the current deal with battlefront? are they going to make new hard plastic infantry or they are moving most stuff into that new soft plastic? Also, did they rereleased most of the mid war and late war stuff in compilations? i just saw they just released a Bagration book

im talking ginny d, reddit, forum posts, irl in-store. in all seriousness will people fall for this instead of having one of their friends dm

You go in and offer. The library might have some budget to allocate. Or you get some budget from the city, county or whatever, they might have call for funding. Or you can present it as an activity in which the parents pay to send their kids (at library prices).

Then again I'm an Euro, I dunno what kind of library welfare exists in the US

What general range of people show up?
How urban or rural is your area?
What do you run?

I would like to talk about the Chronicles of Darkness game line Deviant: The Renegades, or more specifically, one major upcoming supplement. Deviant was released in late 2021, and has had three additional sourcebooks since then. A new supplement, Black Vans, has been in playtesting for a while, and is currently being previewed.

I am not being paid or sponsored to promote this book in any way. I am just very fascinated by it, and indeed, I already ran a mini-campaign using the playtest material.

Deviant is, by default, a game about playing angsty, scarred superheroes who either fight world-manipulating conspiracies or work for them. Black Vans is a toolkit full of variant rules, quick NPC creation, variant character types, and variant genres. These variants range from the minor to the dramatic, completely overhauling what were once non-negotiable, foundational themes and mechanics. Maybe your character is not angsty or scarred at all, perhaps they are a """""regular human""""" like John Wick or Batman, or the campaign might have nothing to do with world-manipulating conspiracies.

These variant genres include cyberpunk, high fantasy, post-apocalypse, space opera, and superhero emergence.

This is a beefy supplement. For example, one chapter alone dedicates 38,000+ words to playing other monsters of the Chronicles of Darkness: Beasts, changelings, demons, Sin-Eaters, hunters (entirely separate from the variant rules for """natural""" superpowers), mages, mummies, Prometheans, vampires, and werewolves. No additional supplements beyond Deviant are necessary; the rules are self-contained, allowing the group to play a monster mash of an urban fantasy setting without needing a daunting 7+ books. And yes, they are supposed to be balanced against one another, so a vampire in the same group as a full-fledged mage is probably some older Kindred.

Or Kamen Rider, or Akira
>>
>>97275171
>>97275276

That is merely one of many, many ways to spin Deviants and conspiracies. Even without bringing in Black Vans, the game and its setting are pretty darned flexible in flavoring, as explained here >>97217944, here >>97217956, here >>97217964, and here >>97217974.

A Deviant and their conspiracy could be John Wick and the assassin underworld, Baki and a grotesque fighting circuit, a magical girl and a wider network of fuzzy mascot creatures, a [vampire/werewolf/mage/changeling/etc.] gone wrong and their supernatural society, and so on.
>>
Snagged a copy for super cheap on eBay, hoping I can get my group to try this out next year. I've always wanted to run something CoD/WoD, this seems a little more... approachable than Vampire.
>>
>>97275333

As I mentioned to someone else earlier, you have a lot of material to work with. Are you interested in running a vanilla Renegades game, the assumed default? A vanilla Devoted game? One of the Black Vans variant genres? Something else entirely?

What starting Standing/Threat Level were you considering?
>>
My Buddy Proposed that we play a game of DTR and when I was really into it and we were ready to go, my first instinct was to buy the first two volumes of 2000's Ultimate X-Men. Because it matches vibes, almost 1:1 especially in the second volume.

Now I need to wait for foundry to have a good deviant module before we play so the damn game is probably delayed until 2026.

How does it compare to the Ravnica and recent Lorwyn book they did?
>>
>>97272559
this. And I adore theros as a setting. its little more than a handful of feats and enemies and a few encounter maps with lore tidbits sprinkled in. you get the most written about each city state that just rehashes blatantly obvious elements. Did you know the city based on gladiator games and spartans like sports and war? did you know the city that worships the forest god looks down on industry??
did you want a plot idea? tough.
>>
>>97274754
The Ravnica book is a pretty mixed bag. Heavily ignores the previous two Ravnica blocks in terms of history in order to focus solely on the most recent one. There's things that feel like they're missing, but it's passable enough to be worth a read if you wanted to do a Ravnica campaign. I'd just recommend quite a bit of extra reading on top of that.

The Lorwyn book I have not yet read, but everything I've seen puts it closer to a glorified Planescape supplement, but costing money rather than being free. It has a few races, but those are mostly reprints, such as Flamekin just being Fire Genasi. That also means that it suffers from the same issue as Ravnica, where it ignores the previous block in favor of the current one, so it'd be useless for someone trying to run something during the great aurora period. Plus I haven't seen any mention of Shadowmoor's demigod cycle.
I'd want to give it a proper read before I call it worse than Strixhaven, but as it stands I can't imagine that it's worth 15 bucks for 30 pages.

It's also not true, but that's typical /pol/.
>>
>>97275260

Oh oops I misread the question.

It does at least look a little bit more fun to play? And if you don't get to spell storing item I think your potions being better will be felt more. You might actually invest spell slots into being an alchemist, so it has that going for it at least.
>>
>>97275288
>It's also not true,
it is true. that's why all media fucking sucks now and has sucked since white male writers like ed greenwood stopped getting pushed by the industry in 2014.

What do you want out of 6th edition? Do you think they'd be talking about including AD&D elements if not for Stranger Things?
>>
>>97275320
Yeah, the potion feature is improved by basically every metric. It might not be as strong as the other artificer subclasses, but it's functional enough where I wouldn't be telling somebody to avoid picking it.
Plus you can really lean into the alchemist stuff with crafting rules if the DM is willing to play ball.

GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.
Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.

A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image. Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.

If you're wondering where to start:
- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.
- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.
- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.
- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.

Thread question: How often do you use an official GURPS setting? Which are your favorites?

Seems like a fairly extreme IQ penalty, but the basic principle is sound. By a strict reading of the Temporary Disadvantage rules, you can't actually take attribute penalties, only disadvantage traits, but I'm fairly sure even official material has done it before.
An alternative would be Backlash, which explicitly allows attribute penalties, among other effects, but seems more designed for 'instant' advantages and persists even if you switch it off.
In terms of realism, there are absolutely mechanisms by which the brain trades off speed for accuracy, completeness, etc. under different circumstances. The classic is that adrenaline reduces your reaction time but makes it significantly harder to engage in careful reasoning or even things like fine motor control. These could certainly be pushed to the point that -4 IQ would be justified, but I don't know how much more basic speed you could reasonably hope to get, because a normal human brain is probably already doing almost all it can to maximise quick reactions in most circumstances where basic speed would matter.
Also, remember that IQ drags your Per and Will with it and Basic Speed includes Move. Separating them out could be challenging.

How durable the Standard Demon from Magic/DF9 actually is in play? DR 5, HP 25, Fragile (Unnatural) and Dodge/Parry 9.
Asking because the Demonologist from DF9 acquires it through Ally (Summonable), not Conjured, and the Fragile (Unnatural) seems to make it quite prone to death.

There's an active sid in the CB night.

>Sid Favoritism.
It was thin veiled, but it showed up here and there.
Like Sidereals having the greatest destines.
>>
>>97274894
It's never felt more thinly veiled than in 3e, not even with Astrological Charms being straight up an upgraded fucking Charmset in 2e. The level of wonder and passion conveyed through the artifact fluff for Sidereals is like night and day compared to everyone else, with Infernals as a close runner-up.

Compare that to fucking Abyssals just going "hurr durr, someone was pissed and now this edgy frost scythe is soaked in their blood" over and over again.
>>
>>97274801
I honestly think it could have succeeded perfectly fine with good enough planning and setup, it just couldn't have succeeded with the frankly tepid way CB: Night laid out the alpha strike at the Calibration Feast going down. I mean seriously, your nova is setting up with warstriders and Cantata of Empty Voices? You could have had spell-capturing cords with third circle sorcery and dumped a Total Annihilation on them at minimum. If the hall was durable enough you could feasibly lift the entire thing with Solars inside and smash them with Gaia's Rebuke, and that'd be a fucking comical way to start the Usurpation that I'd have loved to see. Hell, even Dragonblooded acting alone without any direct Sidereal backup could have set things up to call down third circle demons to improve that alpha strike, or pinched one of the experimental N/A essence cannon and shot the hall with an infinite damage attack over and over until the Dragonblooded army ran out of motes.

I blame it on CB: Night coming out just after Games of Divinity. They were probably being written at the same time and if you were operating on the same sort of level Book of Three Circles was implying everybody stood at, the Usurpation as described makes some sense, but it got completely revamped and tuned upwards with Savant and Sorcerer. Still, sorcery-capturing cords were a thing in Bo3C, so the point on third circle sorcery (and third circle demons being beckoned over!) should still count. At the very least, put a Rain of Doom over Meru!

And i prefer physical copies. Thanks to critical role and the movie DND books have gone up in price which is weird.
>4e books are ~10-15$ now.

Is it viable to run 4e in 2025? I don't remember hating it and I still remember some home rules to streamline combat to speed it up a touch.

>Worse, as soon as it was dealt with the 'Sabbat' waltzed right on top of us. Black Knight, Giovanni Freak, the Cannibal, and a small throng of their skinned shovelheads. They even brought Show-Master with, looking like a beaten dog. Upstairs the rest of their fodder turned the forest battle into a three sided mosh-pit.
>While downstairs we're inside a rusty station surrounded by the Flesh, that is actively groaning and rumbling.
>Pretty awful situation.
>I think the 'Sabbat' knew that. Mostly the Cannibal. Freak that she is, she was basking in the fact she was about to win. Launched into a whole thing about 'our nature as predators' and offered for us to 'submit.' Join Show-Master on the 'winning side' so she can rise upon the path to (and I am not joking) "DIABLERIZE GOD."
>While this freak is basking in her own dementia and I'm considering if I can jump the Cannibal, Quebec is prepping the explosives to go off if we lose, and everyone else is getting ready for a last stand.
>And when faced with absolute lunacy, who rises to the occasion?
>Halal.
>This 5'4 hijabi hamster-of-a-woman whose been wrestling with herself goes off like a bomb on the elders. Little miss 'how do I pray five times a night' and can't swear went off. The Giovanni looked like she'd been slapped and the Cannibal was speechless. And this wasn't just a dress down for elders who've forgotten what being told 'no' sounded like. She pointed out none of them were planning to share their triumph. "A false Idol tolerates no heirs or peers."
>Seemed even the Flesh had gone silent when she was done, still huffing like she needed to breath.
>And then Strong-Man got the loudest text in the world. From Mèo-Mèo, apparently.
>That was the spark.

>Cannibal took a swing at Show-Master, the Knight lodged his sword in the Cannibal's skull, the Giovanni grabbed Show-Master and the two of them ghosted. Next moment it turned into a damn orgy of violence as the skinned-shovelheads swarmed us and the Knight. Had a good view before one of the Cannibal's mob tried to rip my face off.
>Didn't see the rest of it myself (chewed my way out of the shovelhead) but apparently the Cannibal ripped the Knight into shreds, Mèo-Mèo finally showed herself and tore off the Cannibal's lower jaw, kicked the Abomination into the people she'd been rambling at moments before to re-open the elevator. It was... A long slow thing. Essentially they had to beat the Cannibal down until one of the Loup was able to give her her final death.
>I can't complain. Outside of some serious wounds and Mister Y almost getting dropped into one of the Flesh Pits, everyone of us managed to pull through.
>Although that left us all in an awkward situation even still. What should be done about the Flesh thing we were all unfortunately inside? Not much trust in one another's methods you could say. The Loup were afraid of another mass-extinction (traumatic history), the Homunculi had only had a weird naked dude as their advocate, and Quebec had had an itchy trigger finger on a trunk full of plastic explosives. Not great.
>The Carnival Coterie, mostly Halal, turned about to advocate for the Homunculi. Made a good case that putting the Flesh to sleep was just putting off the problem, and failing to blow it up could be apocalyptic. End the nightmare. I have to say I'm proud of the little assamite baby who manage to be compassionate to a glowering Loup.
>Those of us of the Blood, and the Wolves withdrew. Leaving the seekers to whatever they were planning as quick as we could. Dawn on the horizon. 'Sabbat' defeated. Town still burning and the hunters finally broken.

>I wish I could tell you fully what happened. The Cameras I had access to however were few, and otherwise all I had were Loup and civie reports. Three mortal people that looked suspiciously like the Homonculi walked out of that elevator shaft come morning. Behind them, the Flesh faded. Turning to wood, then stone. Dying. If it was ever alive enough to perish in the first place.
>The National Guard finally marched into town that afternoon, as the last of the Hunter holdouts fled. Whatever happened seemed like it was enough to declare their mission was 'accomplished' and they vanished. The Wentiko of the North Camp Loup did the same when night fell. Returning to Nunavut and Manitoba apparently.
>The Phantom Nudist vanished completely, as the supernatural sightings have faded.
>I had the pleasure of seeing the South Camp Loup off. I am kind of proud to say I am 'the only good one' and that I'm welcome in a location I will not share with you. Hopefully with the Flesh and NWBP gone, they'll be able to recover.
>Last night I joined the remaining members of our blood in a last meeting.
>All of us are leaving Marquette.
>There isn't a town for the 'village' people anymore.
>The Carnival Coterie Trio decided to stay together as a band, and rejected the idea of hunting down Show-Master. Wherever he and that Giovanni are, they're already twice-killed to them. Interestingly Quebec decided to join the Coterie, for the time being anyways. She has business down in Louisiana of all places and the now Quartet have a new lease on their un-life in joining her. If any of you hear about a band called the "Freak-Show-Rejects" (don't worry, they play at our hours) seek them out. Mama Rhinestones is a damn good singer.

>Mister Y has set up plans to get himself shipped to Australia, where he intends to go into Torpor for a few centuries. Apparently he still has enemies and he's very tired of this era. I wished him the best.
>Hatshepsup is selling off all her assets in town and moving down to Memphis, already got a train ready and loaded with Hippy apparently. As soon as she has everything secured and a new business up and running, she'll revive Hippy from her Torpor. And then they'll return to having screaming matches about theology, being nasty, and insisting they are only platonicaly hating one another. Bless their unbeating hearts.
>As for myself?
>Mèo-Mèo somehow got her hands on a mobile home already properly treated for folks like us, and we're heading out on the road. To wander. She's been much better since the 'dream ended' and I suppose I haven't got the heart to part ways with her. Neither of us wish to live in an area with much authority, but we can play nice for a time and see what the night has to offer in this age. See the world.. Neither of us have done much living.
>As I finish writing this it will be the last time I write to you from Marquette. We're driving out to Bismark in North Dakota. From there? Who knows.
>If you have any questions or have any recommendations for travel destinations, shoot them freely.
>Otherwise, for the last time, Marquette out.

Imagine maintaining a fragile facade of heterosexuality for a century only to get it absolutely shattered. Seriously though, this Chronicle was a blast and I look forward to running another this year. Thanks everyone who read along, this was a fun way to finish it up. Happy new year everyone!

>THREAD QUESTION
I haven't encountered enough of the Blood to fear them the way I fear hunger or doing things I'll regret. The only example I can think of was when I was a little baby fledgling back in the day. Crossed paths with a really twisted Country Gang who chased me out of New Brunswick to New England. Humiliating.

My thanks song-thing. A nice thought to possess that, but I won't lose rest over it.
