I have pocket money to spend.Who are the surviving toy soldier manufacturers still in operation on this fair isle? From Carlton to Broxtowe, Ashfield to Rushcliffe, show me some production houses still limping on.
>>97270847... sure that's a particularly helpful line of enquiry, and even if I were a nogaems, sources of little tin lads for yesgaems would still be of value to the board.Anyway here's Mammoth Minis, another dude that does the sort of community casting thing where amateurs can get their sculpts moulded and cast for just a moderate profit-skim.

Their shop looks less and less active every time I check on it.
>>97270896>Have you bought from any yourselfI think the only ones I've bought from are (all in 28mm too):>Makashi's Tea House and Space Vixens From Mars (some not!Star Trek metals)>Northstar Figures (Oathmark heavy human plastic and metal preorders)>Perry Miniatures (plastic Agincourt Knights)>Victrix Miniatures (plastic Norman Infantry)>Wargames Atlantic (lots of stuff from them)WGA is actually American, but to get around tariffs if you order from outside America they cast and ship from a British factory they opened.>Warlord Games (plastic and metal Euro Wars of Religion)I recommend all of them, but be warned that Warlord Game sculpts can be hit-or-miss and some of the older Victrix are a mix of multipart and multipart monopose (but they seem to be getting better with recent kits on avoiding monopose elements)
>>97270927Is it WGA that does the regular polls for the next new kits?Landschnekt ogres etc.?I was planning on picking those ogres up until I saw the Desperate Dan-ass faces, way too cartoonish for my tastes. Humans are the the Children of Seth. Elves are the Children of Lilith.
Humans in the constellation of species how tolkien used them are the newest one.But other authors and even tolkien himself failed to use that dynamic.Humanity overall should behave like toddlers, compared to something like elves. Unhinged little things, with a lack of higher reasoning.Yet toddlers are curious and have a lot of potential so humanities strength should be maturing into the ultimate beings. But they have yet to get there and no clue that they even could.

Recently I was thinking about alternative combat systems.I remember someone talking about instead of HP the payer has a Jenga tower and he needs to remove peaces once hit, the skill is to remove peaces without the tower collapsingSo I started thinking. For example what if the combat somehow involves cups and balls?Instead of a D20+modifier nonsense why not change it up? Why not give a player 10 balls or legos or whatever and to win an encounter the player needs to land 2 balls in 1 cup? There can be variants of this like a super hard encounter demands the player lands all 10 balls or what about reducing the size of the cup with the difficulty of combat? What if we implement a fate system from Talisman for the players? What if legendary bosses have something like that for themselves? And can negate the players victory? What if different monsters use different "balls" like for example some bone golems will be you throwing legos into cups and zombies are aluminum balls while naga can be gummy bears? That actually makes the monster feel different and not a copy pasted set of numbers. Also the different aerodynamics of these "balls" are part of the fun.Comment too long. What are some of your experiences with BRP or mythras? Favorite stories, characters, or supplements? I generally like running pulp or horror campaigns. Funniest story setup was how my players thwarted a small series of adventures I planned before it even started.>Players role up an old priest, a journalist, and basically fred from scooby doo. >Investigating a series of murders and disappearances. >Get captured thesmelves and wind up in a rundown factory converted to sort of look likea victorian mansion.>Meet an obvious vampire who uses them for basic company and conversation before planning to kill them.>My players escape, the frail priest manages to full nelson the vampire, and the other players manage to use a stake to kill him. It ended what I planned to be a multi session adventure in one night. It was a lot of lucky roles and ended up with being funny.
>>97268961Quite a few actuallyImperative is broadened and highly simplied While regular mythras is designed for fantasy settings from a tech level range of paleolithic all the way to late renaissance and napolnicBut assumes classical era bronze/Iron Age most of the time Also way more shit to play with about five diffent magic systems you can chose to include or exclude entirelyAnd a complete combat effects system Imperative is really a wide vertical slice that is missing a lot of shit though it has rules from a few supplements It even has a heavily simplified version of the supers rules present in the standalone game destined If you want sci fi stuff I would reccomend giving Luther Arkwright a spin
>>97269029>If you want sci fi stuff I would reccomend giving Luther Arkwright a spinThere's also M-Space for sci-fi mythras.
>>97269029You seem like you're a knowledgeable fellow so sell me on MythrasBonus points if you outline its biggest flaws too
>>97269950Cons: >Requires system mastery to flow correctly. Especially combat.>Combat maneuvers become a bit solved with pcs always choosing the target location special ability to dog pile damage and incapacitate an enemy. (i have had to homebrew around that)>Focus on simulationism even more than other d100 games might feel overly constraining.>it is more of a toolkit system as far as magic is concerned especially.>piles a lot on the gm to get it running properly.>character creation is kinda flawed and deigned towards making you mediocre at 5-10 things.Generally a lot of constrains when creating characters feels like an over correction more than anything. >Combat style is inherently superior to other combat skills like evade, endurance and willpower which are your resistances>action point system is kinda gamey and hardlocks you a little bit into mostly defending if numerically disadvantaged >lack of gm advice and procedures for dungeoncrawling, hexploration, sandbox play even if it was large part of the oldschool d100systems with settings like griffin island, especially considering that all the tools for such a style of play are there and the d100 is probably the only other game that can do that as well as the osr>armor is a little weaker than it should be.>the way xp rolls are gained is just worse and more gamey than the other organic ways used in d100 systemsComment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>97270691>>97269950This covers a good chunk of the cons. They did try to fix some of the issues with the target location thing by making that counter combat maneuver, but that implies a success getting used for that just to negate an issue. Make it really punishing if it happens.I would disagree and say armor can actually be a little too strong in mythras at times in the hands of the players.

I played in a one-shot where the GM used hallucinated ChatGPT-drawn maps so bad they were actively useless. Not that positioning mattered, we were there to listen to the GM going on about his cool NPCs we didn't even get to interact with really. The maps were the worst part though, 10 minutes and graph paper could have made intelligible maps for the entire session. Hell, you could even use AI for reference, I don't care, just make them playable. Don't have us fighting in a 4 floor spiral staircase in a 2 floor house

Why do I have a feeling this thread was made by the anon from the player rage thread who was crying about not being allowed to roll his way through a game?Anyway>gm asks me if I'm a tranny because a play a female pc, ignoring that way over half of my characters are men (I rng most characters unless I have a solid concept) and other players do the same>complains that his session ends early due to deck of many things shenanigans despite having introduced said deck and made us all draw from it>invited way too many players, turns can take hours and we advance at a snails pace>is ginger (the 2nd greatest of all sins)>unfortunately got hooked on critical roll and that cartoon of it and now brings a lot of cr'isms into his game such as rule of cool, story arcs, and characters having big personal plot arcs>watches anime in dub (the greatest of all sins)That's all pretty minor though, he's a really great guy and his good parts outweigh those by a massive amount. Save for watching anime in dub, for that he will burn.
Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! >>97266862Just use the OSE srd
For all its shortcomings in the censorship department, I think Dolmenwood mostly does well to add to the B/X base with clarifications, some from AD&D. For someone like me who is too autistic to organically fill in the blanks left in the rules, it's great material. The SRD is a bit messy, but at least it is easy to navigate (and thus it is easy to cherrypick the additions). It specifies the weight of misc. adventuring gear as well as things adventurers are capable of (thus preventing mudcore slowdown of play). However it still does not complete the wilderness game or add a complete domain game.
>>97266427Go with OSE. The best gateway into OS D&D. This general will try to convince you otherwise as it is popular and therefore bad
>>97270693>This general will try to convince you otherwise as it is popular and therefore badBait used to involve a minimum of effort and plausibility.

Christmas edition▶What is Kingdom Death?Kingdom Death is a tabletop miniature brand stared by Adam Poots and operated by himself and his Team that later spun off into a miniature based bored game funded by two very successful Kickstarter campaigns.▶What is Kingdom Death: Monster?Monster is a Nightmare Horror cooperative boss battler/miniature hobby game for 1-4 players about hope in a strange world of bizarre monstrosities and perpetually darkness. Players take on the role of survivors that band together to form a settlement, fighting monsters, crafting weapons and gear, and developing their civilization to ensure survival from generation to generation.Prologue Narration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNLc8dHv0AcThe Game is broken up into 3 phases:1. During your Hunt Phase your band of survivors traverse the world of KD in pursuit of their quarry.2. After successfully tracking your quarry you will begin the Showdown Phase, where you must fell these horrific creatures in order to acquire precious resources.3. After the battle, your survivors wander home with loot in hand to begin the Settlement Phase. Arm yourself by developing new weapons and bizarre structures to prepare for next year's hunt.Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>97269759Nope. And honestly, I think another reason the expansions are delayed so much and content comes at a snail's pace is because Poots doesn't want KDM to end. It's his baby and without it, he (and KDM) will drift into obscurity and irrelevance.
>>97269759Well, pinups are not for Monster even tho some have promo cards. But yeah, it's his life now. Pretty good imo. Other than that, I can see licensed 3rd party studios making vidya, ttrpgs, etcetc.
Every time I hunt spidicules I regret it. My best survivor has two broken legs now from the pit, all because he stole my survivor with tumble who WOULD HAVE been the event revealer right before I rolled the pit, and now since i only had 3 survivors I had to push everyone to get through the forest wants what it wants and the broken leg guy's starting the showdown with 3 bleeding tokens. FUCK SPIDICULES
>>97270083Well, aftermath the bleeding tokens didn't really matter but I'm still pseudo retiring the survivor as murder bait and breeding bitch. A shame, since he was pretty promising with all 3 people of the stars abilities and +1 accuracy. I probably could work around 3 movement (ESPECIALLY IF I COULD EVER FUCKING FIND CHOREIA), i have other promising children.

I saw a YouTube series once where two guys would use DM pack emulators to simulate a sealed pool of the first expansion and play a few games with each other. Then instead of creating an entirely new pool, they would instead get a pool from the second expansion, add the two pools together and play with decks created like that. So on for the third expansion, the fourth etc.Do you think it would be fun to do something like this with another acg? And instead of two random dudes, it's a weekly tournament. Basically going through the history of a game.Does this post make sense? I might be too tired

>>97270291That sounds so fun. I played ScoreZ from the first set to the last, and it would be wild to go through that journey again using cards that were good at the time but were powercrept into irrelevance down the road.A real headache, though, would be implementing the errata/ban/restricted along the way since the final CRD has been etched into my mind for over 20 years now.
