Can you imagine someone telling himself he's superior because he knows how to google art, instead of knowing how to make actual art?
As if googling was an actual skill instead of something broken to make you get the results the company wants that will be broken again and again because they can.
>>
>>97278505
>But that's not the same thing as "dms using AI to write adventures are "destroying" the hobby."
An argument no one ever made. Yeah, make up random bullshit to win arguments with yourself.
The point was that the flood of generic AI art hides older art. So when people look for examples they don't get module art, pulp art, or even randos; just generic slop that looks like it was made at some random point with no direct intention. You want to run Conan and players will come with art that looks just like 5e, because when they searched for stuff they got all the same stuff.

So you acknowledge that >>97278264 is a real problem? Great. Glad we had this little chat.

This is a second OSRG, seperate from the main osrg thread, where you CAN talk about 2e, retroclones, and any osr content you want.
This is different than the regular osrg as due to rampant trolling from a handful of bad actors, discussion is impossible.

>Dungeons should come in a variety of styles,
Sure
The issue is that you only have so much playtime so why would anyone ever opt for a boring dungeon for the next session?
if you don't have any time to prep I guess doing a branching/linear cave-dungeon is OK, but then you have no time to search for the right natural cave map

that's all IMHO
>>
>>97277429
that might actually work in a business sense
selling AI-GM-chatbot subscriptions is a much better business model than selling a book and then your customer is fine for life because he can find endless entertainment in the product he already got from you

not a future I wanna be part of though

But this is OSRG. Your thread doesn't even include the full OSR. That's why this thread is needed. This thread existing doesn't give you the right to shit it up.

>I bet you could train a model just using Gygax's books and forum posts.

No, you'd have to do a lot of work to get it to have anything at all in common with something Gygax might say. There's so much LLMs can't do and so much that they can do and it's not intuitive yet. Like you can't give it a rulebook and have it run a game, because it's not like it's reading the rulebook and then internalizing that and then pushing everything else through that filter, as a human would. It just can't do that.

I bet a specialized LLM could get within like 60% of emulating whatever Gygax presented publicly though, but no one is gonna build that because its so specialized.
>>
>>97278542
I'm betting that I could turning test it, using AI quotes and quotes from Gygax, and most people wouldn't be able to recognize which quotes are the real ones.

>What is /awg/?
A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks, or peoples' homebrew wargames.
The >>>/tg/hwg thread doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to more specific games.
This thread isn't tied to a game, a publisher, or a genre, let's just talk about fun wargames. Any scale, any company, any miniatures.

>Examples of games that qualify.
A Song of Ice and Fire, Argatoria, Batman Miniature Game, Carnevale, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings,
Deadzone, Dragon Rampant, Dropfleet and Dropzone Commander, Freebooter's Fate, Frostgrave, Gaslands, HeroClix,
Kings of War, Maelstrom's Edge, Malifaux, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Masters of the Universe: Battleground, Moonstone,
Oathmark, OnePageRules, Open Combat, RelicBlade, Rumbleslam, SAGA, StarCraft, Stargrave, Sludge, Urban War, Void,
Warcaster, Warmachine, Xenos Rampant, Xenotactics...
...and anything else that doesn't necessarily have a dedicated thread.

Depends on what you consider skirmish but for fantasy stuff Song of Blades and Heroes is a classic but lately I've been using Thud and Blunder more and more. Unironically Savage Worlds makes for a pretty good wargame thanks to its heritage.
If you want Sci-Fi Stargrunt 2 is the king IMHO but there are some worthy competitors like Fast and Dirty, Clash on the Fringe, Fivecore, No Stars in Sight, and Tomorrows War.

If you created an Amazon setting, what would it be like? By Amazon setting, I don't mean a single society among many where women are primarily the fighters, I mean a setting where every society is this way. Some question to start someone off:
>What genre would you make your setting be?
>Do women tend to be musclegirls, men tend to be twinks, both, or does comparative height and build not change?
>Is the magic that men and women are capable of different?
>For pursuits that don't involve combat (such as hunting), are ones that are considered masculine and feminine swapped? Which ones?
>While women would dominate military matters, what about other goverment matters? Do those end up women dominated?
>How does courtship change?
>Did you Amazon setting start off as such in-universe or was it some new development that lead to it being that way?

In the western islands there live giant chlams that seep up salt and limestone to creat massive pearls, which are extremely valuable. Pirates seek them and each ship usually has one pearl which is a mark of legitimacy. The bigger the pearl, higher the clout. Having more than one pearl is looked down upon as it diminishes the effect and sentimentality.

Invent a subsector and roll up two or three factions to fight over something inconsequential in it, you'll have more fin that way.

Well Helltaker/Vanripper style is what has really been making me money and clout lately. Just filling a niche need in the market for people who want their ocs in helltaker style and the ones that really like helltaker40k. Helltaker style Callidia is basically Lucifer with some changes too lol
But I plan on doing my own style more this year, at least for anything more serious and grimdarker, rather than the whimsical funnies.

I find your pen and ink style that you post in here sometimes to be quite striking, personally. It's a little Helltaker, but not quite as rendered as your normal style, at least in my relatively uneducated view.

Oh my god, that's adorable! In my game Sister Famula had a personal plushie collection, and she bonded with a former Sister of Battle from another order by trading plushies. Our team happened to share a ship with a radical Inquisitor known as the "Demon Scourge" because her daemon-sword can perma-kill daemons by eating them. Nobody in the group was happy about it, but she was killing daemons and she outranked us so we coped. My character clocked one of the Inquisitor's retinue as a former Sister of Battle, so she inquired how a fellow Sororita would have fallen in with such a radical. Turns out that she'd been burnt out by losing all her friends and comrades to her Order's infamous fanatical suicide charges, and was forced to go Repentia when she lost the ability to conceal her resentment for her superiors. When she got caught up in the Daemon Scourge's business, she decided that she could do more good serving someone focused on killing the enemies of the Emperor rather dying gloriously for Him.

The two of them had really different backstories. My Sister Famula was a talented but troublesome child tithed by her very powerful highborn family because they felt they couldn't control her. Whereas the former Sister of Battle was sold to the Ecclesiarchy because her parents couldn't afford to feed her. However, while sharing their tales, both of them mentioned missing their childhood plushies, so eventually they each went to their rooms, grabbed one of their adulthood plushies, and gifted it to the other Sororita. My character received a donkey and gifted a lion cub.

Everyone I know who watches Fatt Coville videos is a fucking terrible GM. I've never fully watched one and I am widely considered the best GM out of all 3 groups I'm part of. I am regularly requested to run campaigns. People borderline fall asleep in the games others run. There's also no tension because they know that these Coville acolytes will fudge rolls until all PCs survive the battle.

If you're a good GM, it's an inmate talent you can hone over time. You're born that way. If you aren't, then no amount of shitty advice is going to make up for your lack of talent. It just is what it is. This idea that everyone should "try" DMing is retarded. The idea that anyone can be good at it? lolno. Its like some fat divorced on who suddenly decides he's gonna become a famous author. Fat chance. Most people fucking suck at GMing. Hell, most of them suck at playing, but at least in that case the game depends less on them.

If you have to ease your group into playing other systems, there's already a problem. Alongside that, if you are fucking sick of generic D&D fantasy bullshit, playing more generic D&D fantasy bullshit isn't a solution to that grievance.
>>
>>97232331
I think session zeros should be a thing, formal or informal. Either way GM/DM advice is useless because every GM, theor skills, style, and what they want is different. Some GMs probably benefit from having 20 pages of notes for a session and planning for every possibility, my notes are a few stat blocks for likely enemies and some possible loot with me winging the rest. Some GMs might like reading 5 page backstories, I for one just want to know family, friends, origin, and goals of PCs. Some GMs like games built around the story where it's 90% roleplayong 10% mechanics, I for one love mechanics and combat.
>>
>>97271637
>Either way GM/DM advice is useless because every GM, theor skills, style, and what they want is different.
There is still advice that is universal regardless of what your style is.
>>

These are very close to Alexander Macris's example scenarios where fudging is "justifiable", however he is a simulationist (which is rare), while most narrativists state that you should actively fudge the dice for the purpose of "telling a good story" or preventing lethality.
Example of a narrativist defending fudging for purposes other than patching mistakes/illogical gameplay results: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vguHd5IHFAg

I agree with >>97235185 that in the first scenario it is better to have enemies behave logically than like video game enemies (making enemies surrender/flee is actually good for grimdark), and that roll tables for encounters are mostly suggestions/idea seeds/map-making tools rather than an exact description of how the world is structured, and that if you have a premade setting you should probably also have custom encounter tables for it rather than using the ones in the base rules.
>>
>>97271637
>think session zeros should be a thing, formal or informal.
Session zero is a gay concept. Informal? Ok then it's not a session zero, it's campaign planning and chargen. Wow. Hipsters just need a new word for everything.

He gives the WoB stuff like LAMs and tge like because you aren't supposed to like the WoB, and thereby dislike the stuff they are given.
He forgets that this isn't a seting where you choose a Hero but instead your favorite War Criminal and in that competition, looking cool is the important factor. Additionally, the WoB wanting to burn everything is a goal that diminishes official factions but makes more room for Your Dudes.
