I refuse to believe Halo Flashpoint is even a 10th as successful as Mantic claims. In terms of online, easy to find metrics it has:3100 people as part of its sub(P)reddit.2100 or so people as part of Facebook Groups. No one discussing it on Twitter gets many likes/comments/retweets.No one big or well known talks about/plays it on Youtube.Yet it's one of the fastest growing and more popular tabletop games to come out recently?I don't buy it.I don't hate the system, but I am baffled by Mantic's ability to get away with lying about how successful this game is.

>>97236626You’re underestimating the GW dominance. It doesn’t take a lot to make the top 10. Its also a perfect game alot of people are buying Flashpoint that are not tabletop gamers or buying it to paint alone or just have the box. Halo collectors are actually quite a big market especially since Star Wars died. Its a phenomenally good game I haven’t touched it since last January but I fucking loved it and if I take a notion to play a minis game i’ll be digging it out. If the retards had dropped a strong Covie box alongside the Spartan edition it would be huge in my area we had real traction on release but we did one tournament in January and despite it being really good it just died largely because the Elite players got smoked. Yes they’re strong in objective games but you needed two sword elites to match the Spartan meta and I for one couldn’t afford two Spartan editions to do that. The Banished box was a huge dud that didn’t sell locally or I suspect very well in general but that no dount that was 343 pressure to push infinite. It’s a great game and i’m looking forward to get back into it when theres Grunts, Jackals and Hunters. Pic related my nail varnish drowned Chief.
>>97238770If GC had dropped before Fleet Battles it would have done gangbusters. Instead it dropped around Halo 5 when Halo fans were dropping the series for other things and then like a year later Spartan Games was gone. Fleet Battles was cool but it was appealing to a tiny demographic.
>>97238770It's very slowly evolving away from multiplayer and into a more general Halo universe skirmish game with the last two releases being Brutes and ODSTs, and apparently they've got Grunts and suchlike in the pipeline as well. I get the impression that they wanted to make a general Halo game from the start, but having it based on the multiplayer made it both an easier sell from the licensing standpoint (direct tie-in with the current video game) and a smaller initial investment for making the game what with all players using the same pool of miniatures.Remains to be seen if they make any dramatic changes away from the multiplayer arena setup in terms of gameplay for future expansions, we'll just have to wait and see.
Is it finally over for scalpers?

>>97243739>last wagie with self-respectHow long until they kill you?
>>97243812>How long until they kill you?Literally never. I've been through a lot of shit growing up, so suicide was always on my mind, every day, for around 15 years. I'm past that now, but only because I am choosing to live purely out of spite against the world that tried its best to kill me just to see how far I get. I do have a goal now, too. Which helps.
>>97243739Teamwork building is ubiquitous now. Even major law offices and banks do it. Enjoy being unemployed because you hate fun.
>>97243857>Enjoy being unemployed because you hate fun.The entire point of these exercises is to embolden a connection between the people that work there, and the corporate entity that they work for; in this case, the "Walmart Family" (actual term used often). Corporate entities are not friends or family. There not even legally considered to be a person. If I killed a bunch of people while on or off the job, I go to prison. If a corporate entity kills a bunch of people, they get fined and the CEO gets a golden parachute. We are literally not the same. Not to mention the fact that I do "Teamwork Building" just fine. It's called having good relationships with your coworkers. Sure, there's some I don't like or don't like as much than others. But these forced team building exercises are an artificial method of trying to establish coworker morale. You know what would really encourage morale and employee happiness? Better benefits and pay, and treating me like the human being that I am.

>>97221863>Doesn't work well for tabletop RPGs, or rather requires tremendous effort on GMs side of things. Not really, you can go the Fragged Aeternum route and just have a very soft ritual magic system that pretty much says you can do whatever you want as long as you've know the mechanical effect, did the research to figure out a ritual, spend ritual components, succeed at a ritual roll, and submit yourself to the consequences of whatever arcane force you choose to invoke for the ritual. The metaphysics can be entirely decided by some broad guidelines and however the GM wants to specifically rule those guidelines.

Meant to post much earlier in the thread, but I suffered a Prometheus Virus outbreak and have only now rebuilt my base population to sufficient levels.Assuming anyone is still monitoring the thread, what are the best campaign premises to use when running an SMAC game, either in GURPS or some other system? Some of my ideas have been:>PCs are a probe team from a single faction or set of pact brothers, and the game plays out like a cyberpunk espionage thriller>PCs are division heads for their (possibly custom) faction, and must use social influence and connections to steer their faction or faction leader in the "correct" direction while also handling their official duties>goofy riff on the above using MAID(?!?), where PCs are vying for the affection of their faction leader>small-scale story about a group of terraformers in the early days after Planetfall, exploring this alien world, discovering its wonders, and trying to build a comfy homestead along the Pholus Ridge

>>97243595>It's kind of funny to me how in 3e, Lore is the stat more about directly bending reality to your will while Occult is the one more about spirits and only spirits, like fuck man mix it up and give me an Occult Charm specifically for dealing with Raksha or Behemoths ffs if you're gonna make Occult the skillmonkey to Lore's "can do literally anything and everything as long as it tangentially related to knowledge"I think it has to do with the fact that Lore is, ironically, a bit of a closed book when it comes to actual baseline effects. Like, take a look at how knowledge/lore skills are used in other TTRPGs; they'll tell you about what you're dealing with, weaknesses and vulnerabilities, past events, what to be wary of, political structures, and in games where magic is a particularly relevant knowledge-based skill, it'll likely have some side-effect related to research. In Exalted, Occult and Lore being separated means that magical research is separated out into Occult, as it deals with, presumably, spirits, elementals, and sorcery. The fact that they made Occult into a potential combat stat as well via sorcery further gives it a niche as THE premier sorcery skill. Lore, meanwhile, gives everything you're looking for baseline when it comes to knowledge effects. Introduce Fact is baseline functionality, and rolling against difficulties to understand things about the world isn't some kind of extreme matter available only to demigods; a mortal that's studied long enough can be nearly impossible to run out of information, especially via connective ideas. The main problem with this is what happened to Medicine in core. Solar Medicine is so spastic and unfocused that many of its effects don't actually do anything, because they were building to problems that don't actually exist.
>>97243595>>97243681Expanding on the baseline functionality of Lore has limits too, since lore backgrounds are barely even a mechanical widget you can work with, and Introduce Fact's difficulty grades aren't particularly high in the first place. So... you have to expand in scope. What do sages do? They tell you about how powers have affected the world in the past, which is how we get shit like Evocations being accessible via Lore effects. They know where to find resources. They know how to train you to be better. That expanded out, made into demigodhood, just kind of turns the mess into a coherent understanding of how to improve someone's capabilities. And in Exalted, expanding capabilities is generally supernatural.
Can a sidereal exalt as an old man? I know Terrestrial have the possibility, but pretty much it's unheard of. Sidereals are the only one who are fated to though, so do they always exalt young?
>>97243716Save for DBs, all exalts can exalt later in life; as long as they're mature enough to have strong convictions and the life experience to stand out before the divine, they can exalt. In 1e, Yurgan Kaneko - better known as the Bull of the North - actually caonically got so old that he was worried about becoming a burden to his tribe, so he wandered out onto the ice looking for a way to die, and exalted instead. I believe Chejop Kejak also exalted on his death bed from old age, but I'm less confident that I'm right about that one, as it was secondhand information and I can't recall who told me.When someone that old exalts, while they don't physically get younger, all the frailty and ailments of old age get blasted away by the divine power of the exaltation juicing their body. They're essentially suddenly in their prime again. There's no reason this wouldn't apply for any exalt type that isn't a DB or literally made exalted at birth (Alchemicals and Liminals).
>>97243681>>97243685That makes sense on both parts. I just wish they'd put more thought into SOME kind of coherent theming for instead of Lore instead of just going "oh well, sufficiently smart people are indistinguishable from wizards and miracle workers anyway" and given Occultists something to do other than bother spirits. Like bother Behemoths. Or I don't know, infuse magical powers into animals, do something with demesnes/geomancy, make thaumaturgy relevant. Infernal, Sidereal and to a lesser extent Occult won bigly because the writers weren't afraid to think outside the box for them. Even if Infernal Occult's case it was 80% copying from old Yozi Charms and then turning around and going "they're not Yozi Charms anymore ;^)" . I'm not saying you have to go out of your way to be esoteric for every Exalt ability necessarily, but that Occult in particular needs to be a lot more versatile and Lore a little more focused for everyone else.I guess most people having relatively unimaginative War charmlines is the cherry on top. Again, W for Infernals/Sidereals.
On the spectrum of rubber forehead aliens to complete starfish aliens that are made out of silica and breathe methane, where are YOU specificially comfortable with. Does there come a point where an alien becomes too weird for you to "relate" to in order to include them in your games as playable races?Personally I am fond of aliens that look plausibly like they could have evolved in a different world and have no distinguishable lineage to earth life, even if they share some superficial features.
>>97240231>>97240304>blah blah blah I want star trek or rick and morty deconstruction get Aids and die slow.

>>97241451I dont really do aliens for strangeness sake, I dont even consider my aliens that alien but maybe I just got desensitized to them to them to the point I see them as familiar as elves or dwarves. Their designs arent complex messes, they are meant to be modular and laden with variants. Keeping to an 'underlying mentality' that has a lot of flexibility has been what I have been trying for.. Be it a species with a pathological fear of boredom or having trauma from losing members of the individual organisms aggregating (lekgolo inspiration yeah). Of which is meant to be something you can interpret in many ways and still likely be valid as a player due to it being a species with numerous different members who will be pretty different. I didn't make them 'that alien' because they are products of nature and I wanted to contrast simpler, more "innocent" designs with the horror hell postbiological abominations of advanced galactic civs. An AI's psychology is going to be more alien than an intelligent lifeform who evolved from darwinian processes, even if their form isn't a 1:1 to humans.
>>97240164I don't particularly care about appearances I just don't want them be the same as human in terms of mind.If a rubberforehead alien has a different psychology and cultural from humans I'm okay with it.If a starfish alien is basically a human just in a different body I wouldn't like it.
Alien psychology gets brought up a lot, but what does this actually entail? It cant just be some excuse for them to behave randomly. I think rules with Alien moral codes a player using said needs to follow could give some structure to it, even if it is a bit heavy handed. For instance the player getting rewarded for doing certain actions and punished for others, I have no idea what the implementation of that looks like without a clue what system is being used but I don't think it'd be much different from the mechanics paladins or such have. Alien morality paladins can be neat.
