I refuse to believe Halo Flashpoint is even a 10th as successful as Mantic claims. In terms of online, easy to find metrics it has:

3100 people as part of its sub(P)reddit.
2100 or so people as part of Facebook Groups.
No one discussing it on Twitter gets many likes/comments/retweets.
No one big or well known talks about/plays it on Youtube.

Yet it's one of the fastest growing and more popular tabletop games to come out recently?
I don't buy it.
I don't hate the system, but I am baffled by Mantic's ability to get away with lying about how successful this game is.

new to kill team but getting routinely slaughtered. My blooded are just sliding off of my opponent's Space Wolf Scouts, and I find giving him extra activations just means he's healing twice with his medic. Blooded tokens make little impact.

Are some teams just super unbalanced? Though to be fair I also seem to suck.
>>
>>97243562
Are you solely trying to trade kills or focusing on objectives and other ways to get VPs? You're a horde team with very few ways of punching through a Space Marine's hide. Your strength is board control and ramp up. Cause him problems on different areas of the map and force him to split his team, then pick a side you want to focus on and hammer those units there.
>>
>>97243577

you might be onto something. Stay hidden, get close, and try to push for objectives?

>Sounds like... a rag tag band of different planets forces joining up.
It was part that, part being the GM for our campaigns, and partly flat-out liking to play multiple fleet lists at semi-random. So I could be using WYSIWYG to designate which ships were technically "reserves" or "reinforcements" (which is a big thing with Imperial fleets in particular). The actual fluff on the fleets was
>blue
An obsolete fleet that had been largely puttering around guarding Tithes until shit cooked off in the 12th Crusade. Suddenly very out of their depth. My first actual fleet
>Red
SegObscuras fleet whose Lord Admiral had been killed in battle against the Orks (one of my main opponents) and were now being run by a Rogue Trader and some Marines while they waited for "reinforcements" they never actually sent a message requesting. There are quite a few Xenos ships hidden in the escort shot
>Purple
Some of the Armageddon fleet ships were really nice as backup in a standard one
>Pirates
These guys were the actual rag-tag fleet. Also used the Rogue Trader's cruiser or one of the Demiurg Bastions as the flagship. Mostly played for challenge
>Inquisition
Used as GM loaners in scenarios

>Subordinate only to the Grand Provost Marshal, Marshals of the Court oversee galaxy-spanning precincts and coordinate the activities of Judges and Arbitrators in their jurisdiction.
Codex Imperialis, p.34-35. That one's from '93.
I imagine there's some subdivision based on precinct, district, zone, and whatever other subdivisions you want to make, in whatever order you desire. It probably varies from precinct to precinct. Check the book for further info, if you can get your hands on a pdf.

>You're either new or disingenuous
I've played every single 40K RPG, which is more t han most here can say, and been popping by this general for years.
>don't think IM can recover
It has it's core community, it'll be just fine. I've been following and playing it since release, it had a rocky start with some promises not being met but the real negativity about it was from people wanting a more crunchy system. If you don't care for that or even want something more streamlined, quicker to play it's pretty great, and we now have two faction splats and a gear book to flesh it out a bit more.
>>
>>97243452
IM is... workable. A pal pulled me into a game recently, some of its stuff is streamlined from the FFG stuff in a good way (namely how stats work), some of it's streamlined in a shit way that I hate.
Wang is the skunge you find growing inside a rusty disposal. I think maybe three guys in all of time have ever played and liked it.
My heart will always belong to Rogue Trader. God, those were the days.

My bad then, but like every thread there was the usual bait "now that the dust has settled..." question. As far as how is it? Dangerously mediocre. It works, but it's very generic and shallow

RIFTS! The science fantasy world of post-apoc cyborgs, wizards, dragons, ninjas, giant mecha, super-nazis, robot ninjas, vampires, underwater kingdoms, remnant human supertech civilizations and everything you can imagine all rolled into one setting where interdimensional RIFTS have pierced Earth's fabric and turned it into a playground for aliens and monsters!

NTA, but doesn't that mean that we know nothing about anything and nothing can be assumed from any part of the fiction?
>>
>>97243363
AS 2" = hexmap 1 hex
>>
>>97243444
Of course not. We know roughly that an LRM needs to be able to fly at least at 63 meters per second to reach out to its listed range in hexes, (21 hexes-- 30 meters across-- in 10 seconds). This abstraction at least holds that its average speed cannot be less than this and its maximum speed must exceed this. In short, anything we re-derive from the simplified model of reality on the tabletop can only be relational assumptions based on defined parameters of the game's logic. Any breaks we witness that are not explained by the system or setting must be assumed to be the edges of a simplified simulation and not binding principles of how reality operates.

If we apply the largest possible scale of rules to battlemech weapons (space rules) in which hexes are 18 kilometers and rounds are a minute long; the effective range of a ground unit being limited only to their own hex means that the LRM fired by a LCT-1M teleported into the void by a cruel and unjust god, by virtue of reaching the other side of the hex in the round would have to travel at least 300 m/s; which means it STILL isn't assured to break Mach 1 at sea level. It would be supersonic at 2500 meters above sea level by estimate.

So, depending on who you ask, LRMs travel at upwards of 60 meters per second or upwards of 300 meters per second. We can't guarantee they'd travel 300 meters per second on the ground because of gravity and drag, but we know that any missile classified as such is doing at least this in either environment if it is capable of doing so in the environment.

The LAM example doesn't even prove universally; it only proves that the LAM is equipped with missiles that can do both.
>>
>>97243558
Does all that mass take into account soft launch time and all of the complexities of how a missile functions? You're also making the very bold assumption that every single missile flies in a perfectly straight line directly towards it's target, when missiles today even have to jump up to get a top attack on it's target.

Unfortunately I don't got much to share at the moment aside from just doing lore and modeling my Zombie missions have the most work, with infection mechanics, breaking the ritual, extraction based missions, or if all goes to hell then it's stand the line or asset denial styled missions with unique scatter terrain like corpse piles, altars, or bodybags. I'm trying to get nice special infected zombies that don't look like nurgle demons, but it's not easy.

The twist is that they have to kill the spirit of the camera that filmed them afterwards or else have said embarrassing footage shown to the entire sept.

On the spectrum of rubber forehead aliens to complete starfish aliens that are made out of silica and breathe methane, where are YOU specificially comfortable with. Does there come a point where an alien becomes too weird for you to "relate" to in order to include them in your games as playable races?

Personally I am fond of aliens that look plausibly like they could have evolved in a different world and have no distinguishable lineage to earth life, even if they share some superficial features.

Play the most dogwater shit deck imaginable. Your opponent gets to beat you into a pulp regardless of what they play and you get to feel an unwarranted sense of self-assured smugness that you're unique and creative in between bouts of seething about your opponent being a metasheep (actually playing a tiered deck is optional).
This is the optimal way to enjoy yugioh.
>>
>>97240947
Depends on your opponent. If your opponent is a meta andy then you'd either want to be running a meta deck or something that has a good enough matchup against their deck to check it, but not dominate it.

If your opponent's on a dogwater deck, you run a dogwater deck.

If you want everyone to play your game, do the work. Game time is extremely precious, don't waste it by letting us watch a video or (somehow even worse) reading the rulebook aloud

>How much of that is how exhausted design space has become
My money is on, "not very much". I think the main problem is that the sverage hobbyist consumer likes fiddly bullshit.

The worst I have in my group is a guy who 'teaches' games by reading the rulebook out loud. When people ask him questions he usually can't answer them because he doesn't remember the rules himself.
There's also a guy in my group who owns about 100 more games than he knows the rules to, but when he host a game he doesn't know he plans specifically for that game so everyone can read the rules on their own time before showing up.
