today's desert.what you eating during this fine Christmas, anons?
>>97235501I drink alone, more than usually.
>>97235495This is a Lorwyn card it doesn't count.
Anyone planning to play any Christmas Specials? One-shots or variations on your regular game? Our group often has a Christmas special of some kind, either some unique silly monsters, or the current party portalled to the North Pole, or some villain stole all their magic items for presents, that kind of thing. What does your group do for the holidays?
>>97215516Already did. Had them meet La Befana and they had to rescue the town's presents from frost fey. There was another session where the group had a snowball fight and Solstice Dinner.
>>97215516We usually take the Christmas period off from games.
>>97232651That's awesome, nice work, anon. >PvP snowball fightBrilliant, I think I'll copy this idea.
I did a christmas Jawa one shot for my star wars campaign once. They had to sneak into Mos Eisley and steal a bunch of stuff for Jawa Life Day. Ended up getting caught and had to kill a couple New Republic troopers to get out of there
Last year the players had a great time at the Whomstville Christmas Festival meeting a cast lf kooky characters and stopping the Binch from sabotaging all the eventa like sled races, figure skating, and cookie decorating. It ended with the party ambushing The Binch as he tried to blight the big christmas tree in front of everyone in Whomstville only to realize that his mischevious scheme was actually the equivalent of a magival nuke and accidentally killed everyone in Whomstville. This year the party had to go back to the Whomstville Memorial Site after reports that the Binch was seen cavorting with some unknown figures during his house arrest. The Binch explained it was his bitch of an ex-wife Gryla and their thirteen ugly fucked up kids called the Yule Lads ttying to ruin Christmas and made it very clear he wasn't involved because he was on parole. The party went down the back of The Binch's mountain where they had to fight the 13 Yule Lads, each equipped with one very unique power(Stekkjastaur made you want to fuck animals, Spoon-Licker would summon dancing spoons to fuck you up, door-sniffer would stab you with his proboscis nose if you didn't spend your move action giving him bread, ect) and Jolakastur, the giant Yule Cat that fucks you up if you dont have new clothes on christmas. The battle devolved into a mad panic to get across the map giving eachother gifts to keep Jola off of them while slowly whittling through the Yule Lads. It was a ton of fun.
Everyone I know who watches Fatt Coville videos is a fucking terrible GM. I've never fully watched one and I am widely considered the best GM out of all 3 groups I'm part of. I am regularly requested to run campaigns. People borderline fall asleep in the games others run. There's also no tension because they know that these Coville acolytes will fudge rolls until all PCs survive the battle. If you're a good GM, it's an inmate talent you can hone over time. You're born that way. If you aren't, then no amount of shitty advice is going to make up for your lack of talent. It just is what it is. This idea that everyone should "try" DMing is retarded. The idea that anyone can be good at it? lolno. Its like some fat divorced on who suddenly decides he's gonna become a famous author. Fat chance. Most people fucking suck at GMing. Hell, most of them suck at playing, but at least in that case the game depends less on them.
>>97234703He's afraid someone on /tg/ would recognize his nasally voice from his original youtube channel, but the joke's on him: No one watched his first channel either.

Dungeon complete. 6 encounters before the party got a long rest (2 short rests in between). They’re level 4 now, and I honestly can’t wait for them to hit level 5 so I can throw the truly dangerous shit at them.
When is 6E coming out? What do you want them to fix this time?
>>97234493In a decade. It doesn't matter, any competent group will change it to what they want.
Which magic item does your current PC want for Christmas?
>>97233519I try not to visualize it because visualizing it usually sucks. Realistically probably you carry it in your hand or affixed diagonally to your huge backpack, and you pull a strap to drop the entire backpack as soon as combat begins.I like using houserules which make carrying capacity dramatically reduced, which solves the issue. You either carry the pole in your hand, or on your cart/mule, or you don't take it at all.

>>97235294Do we have the same understanding of what CR is?I always assumed that CR is "Something that is an adequate challenge to a party of said Level".What exactly is a Level 20 Fighter (CR 20 as per the rules) supposed to do against a party of four other Level 20 guys, one of which is probably a Cleric and the other a Wizard?>He can batman the shit out of it.Since when is insane planning part of a creature's CR? Is the Pit Fiend or the Tarrasque CR 20 because they are supposed to get the party in an anti-magic field, naked, with only a bunch of sticks as weapons?
>>97235343Sorry, the batman comment was supposed to imply >assuming the party does not have an omniscient divination wizardI could have been more clear. Also, an average challenge is not supposed to be something that wipes the party. An average challenge is something the party could do 4 times between 8 hour rests without anybody dying or being brutally mangled.
>>97235079yeah I did. The rest are 'peak human' by that age. Guess I've mostly been looking at black because thats the only one I ever got to fight in a game.>but never actually look at the creature's entry.oops
>>97235358>Also, an average challenge is not supposed to be something that wipes the party.Agreed, I cannot argue with that.>without anybody dying or being brutally mangled.I don't know about that, at such CRs I would assume a monster that kills or brutally mangles one out of four is still an average challenge (considering things like Heal and Resurrection are easy to come by).But still, I can't consider a Level 20 Fighter even an 'average' threat to a party with 9th-level casters in. The action economy fucks him up, he has no crowd control, he has no real death effects, Force Cage fucks him up (at worst wasting him turns to cancel it or bypass it by use of items), his Touch AC won't be something extraordinary, a single Gated creature can distract him with minimal damage to the party and so on.
>>97235433I also think a big part of the reason PC/CR is a mess is that the system has no way to account for how well you optimize class levels. 4 badly optimized level 20s built using Core or mostly Core could conceivably have trouble with a 20th level optimized cross classed to hell martial character with cherry picked magic items from all over the place. Such a character would be the same CR as 20 levels of fighter with shit feats

Hey, I’m looking at the Infernal Melee Charm Crimson Wind Ribbons. I’m not seeing a reason why you can’t trigger it off itself. You trigger it normally, make a reflexive withering attack, trigger it again, and so on. Assuming your dice rolls work out this seems to be legal.
