>>97238527Jude Law terrorizing children for eight or so hours was always going to be a good time.
>>97238527I really liked it, but I've said before it needed more of a denouement. It just ended on the assumption that "everyone lived happily ever after the Republic showed up, but doesn't address how the planet is going to adjust to the New Republic, considering they've been cutoff since before the War.
This is a second OSRG, seperate from the main osrg thread, where you CAN talk about 2e, retroclones, and any osr content you want. This is different than the regular osrg as due to rampant trolling from a handful of bad actors, discussion is impossible.PREVIOUS THREAD>>97206318

What are some things that retired adventurers in double-digit levels could get up to in a city?I have an idea for a faction for the next chapter of my campaign being built around five such figures who hold different forms of formal or informal power in the same city, and are still on friendly terms with each other. Each of the five has a successful business operation or other field of influence which may or may not be related to their class abilities, and they can call upon each other for assistance if they run into problems of any kind.
>>97238568I imagine one of them might just do that. Something like a Bard, a Sorcerer, or maybe a Swashbuckler Rogue.
>>97238526>No CONcoward.

Do you prefer systems with a strict class-based martial/caster division or classless systems that allow anyone to dip into anything at the cost of never being great at it?
This is a bumpfag thread
>>97229035The Level-by-Level multi-classing was one of the biggest mistakes in 3.X. As most martial classes had their abilities front loaded and caster's power grew with caster levels. Dipping a few levels into a martial got most of their benefits while dipping into a caster was pretty much useless. The table based leveling didn't help either as it created many "dead" levels with no benefit.>>97231941>I would personally make it a feat that takes several instances of getting regular feats to represent its powers and you'd get a lesser version of the orignal classes's power but never be able to overshadow the original's use of it.You just described 4e D&D multi-classing.
>>97229027This looks like shit.

>>97234975The spell discharges after the first hit.It also lingers in the weapon for 8 hours so you can prebuff that shit and not even have to use a move action.>>97234960Now think that with a Belt of Battle you can have a couple of extra move actions a day.Not the best use of the item, but in certain situations that combination can come in handy.
>>97234960I'm assuming you can't stack multiple spells on your weapon at once, but can you put different spells on multiple weapons at the same time?Basically, can you pre-load a bunch of swords with weapons, take quick draw, and machine gun them over the course of a battle like single-use boomsticks?
>>97235081Sadly, no.You can only one weapon "channeled" at a time. The spell does last 8 hours so you can get at least one off each battle without having to use a move action.
>>97234373Green-Flame Blade, as well as booming blade, are conceptually really boring. You'd think with two martial/magic users like bladesinger, eldritch Knight, and Zealot you'd give them options to give more utility and uniques uses for such spells.
>>97235014>The spell discharges after the first hit.So it's not a case of "whenever you hit a fucker with it", but "once you hit a fucker with it".

I feel like this edition has alot of objectively bad things about it and is absolutely where the alot of worst qualities of current editions showed up. But I feel like I prefer playing this edition compared to a lot of previous editions and 10th edition. Its a weird transitional period where there's still a lot of the old units that haven't been legended yet while still having the fucking Primaris lot. Its strange but I don't feel like I'm missing out on much staying on this edition and playing with friends casually instead of going back to playing the current edition.
>>97234943Even the absolute mess that was 7th, it was pretty modular and you could ignore most of it.And still you didn't get surprised outside of what a unit already had in their unit description.
>>97226259I would be down to have a gander at this
>>971861088th wasn't the best but it was the last edition worth playing. The accompanying edition of Kill Team that used a lot of its core rules and datasheets was nice for the sake of homebrew and modularity as well.

>In the game Werewolf: The Apocalypse, the Garou (werewolves) were made to defend the earth from the cosmic forces that threaten to tear it apart. The Garou fight against the Wyrm, the destroyer. It is a struggle against nearly insurmountable odds, especially considering the rivalry between many tribes. These rivalries make it almost impossible for the werewolves to present a unified front against a cosmic force that pervades reality.>From this morass of hatred and mutual betrayal, there is little hope that the Garou can emerge triumphant against a foe so well armed as the Wyrm. Moloch's Fun Park Edition>What is Trench Crusade? An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.>What Trench Crusade is notTC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Same as a pinup warband, or a thinly veiled vessel for a political message everyone knows is bullshit when spoken honestly warband.Tuomas himself highly encourages altering the rules for fun, and /yourdudes/ are a staple, but you can't avoid the court of public opinion.
Everyone I know who watches Fatt Coville videos is a fucking terrible GM. I've never fully watched one and I am widely considered the best GM out of all 3 groups I'm part of. I am regularly requested to run campaigns. People borderline fall asleep in the games others run. There's also no tension because they know that these Coville acolytes will fudge rolls until all PCs survive the battle. If you're a good GM, it's an inmate talent you can hone over time. You're born that way. If you aren't, then no amount of shitty advice is going to make up for your lack of talent. It just is what it is. This idea that everyone should "try" DMing is retarded. The idea that anyone can be good at it? lolno. Its like some fat divorced on who suddenly decides he's gonna become a famous author. Fat chance. Most people fucking suck at GMing. Hell, most of them suck at playing, but at least in that case the game depends less on them.
a lot of the tips in picrel are neat, but they make me realise how much i hate 5E as a system. all these little hacks are things you just don't NEED in a better ruleset.one of the tips is something like>if the players are finding the dungeon too easy, put eight goblins in the next room instead of five, or add in a goblin warlord.and that's the kind of d20 shovelware shit i've always hated. punish the players for finding solutions. YOU know what's fun: put an anti-magic field on that locked door so the wizard can't just use a knock spell.i don't want a game world that 'cares' about me. fuck your quantum ogre, just draw a map and place things on that map.

It's a shame this thread is made by some subhuman shitposter because there is a point here that I agree with. GMing, in a sense, is a talent. Not everyone can do it. Sure, it's also a skill that can be honed, but you need a certain baseline of capability to start GMing at all. I'm not entirely sure what that talent consists of, though I think atleast 50% of it is being intelligent. If you are stupid, chances are you're a shit GM. But then again, I also know some smart people who make for dreadful GMs, albeit for different reasons.
>>97232339So wait, /tg/ has MULTIPLE mod-protected redditors spamming the board?
>>97238028>You're telling a story together and everything the GM does should be in service of a more interesting storyMore to the point, it's more realistic. If the guy who's plans you've foiled all game crits you and the crit table makes him beef it it's lame. Inb4 "just decide what he does you're the GM!": No. I'm not deciding every little interaction. I'm here to roll dice and tables too, so whoever says this can stuff this line so far up their ass they burp its flavor.>>97235121Btw dramatic rerolls and improv mechanics are literally the two advantages TTRPG has over video games. If I wanted to play a fun world where anything could happen with my friends and it have near perfect rules, I could easily find a minecraft modpack that fits the bill. Or just play Terraria again.

TTRPGs are a social game first and foremost. That means there's unspoken rules that vary from group-to-group, but a common one is "acceptable breaks from sensibility" in the name of game experience or table cohesion. It's the kind of thing that keeps the bitter rivalry between the Elf and the Dwarf largely to amusing banter and not outright PvP. It's an innate instinct: nobody likes to spoil the atmosphere, because that's a large part of the appeal of a good game (alongside the freedom). That being said, there are also times when the group's course of action is patently retarded and you can't meaningfully push back on it without feeling like you'd cause a big fight over nothing (and then feel obligated to keep comrades away from the consequences), or something a character cannot abide has to be "sanded over" somewhat, or you as the GM don't want to cultivate the feeling that you're antagonizing your players by hitting them over the head with "you murdered someone because it was convenient and didn't even take measures to cover your tracks" or whatever unhinged misadventure occurred because something about the player position of the table cause human beings to lose IQ. Have you ever had that feeling? I think I see enough greentexts to think it's common.
>>97236850>As the players try to leave the tavern and exit the door they find themselves surprised to see the same exact scene before. Try as they might no matter how many times they go through the door the same sight stands before them and the Wizard stares at them.
>>97237225That's just railroading unless being trapped in the bar and finding a way out is the puzzle.
>>97238503You're right. The wizard definitely cannot have any agency or make decisions which influence the players. This situation is definitely railroading and not a consequence of the PCs actions. Nothing in the game should be able to take actions which affect the players without the PCs consent. How silly of me. Thank you for the correction, anon. I shall mend my ways forthwith.
>>97228087>How often do you feel you have to cater to party retardation?Depends on the group, when I play with retards it's only 80% of the time.If I played with better people I think we could get that down to a 20-30%, even if the party was made entirely of perfect players I don't think that number would be a zero, we're all retarded sometimes, even the Ref.>I think I see enough greentexts to think it's common. Two errors with this by the way, greentexts as a concept are innately exceptional stories, no one wants to read or remembers the vast majority of sessions, because most go normally & even the majority of good or bad ones aren't to the level of good or bad that a greentext post needs to be. Most are highly specialised to that group of individuals too, it's the result of multiple sessions of build up.The other problem is that you think most greentexts are real.
>>97238696>The wizard definitely cannot have any agency or make decisions which influence the players>just let my NPCs trap you in a pocket dimension until you talk to them bro
