as much as I love my fucking hunchback, or the wolverine... I still am unable to get the notion that the best medium is actually the griffin out of my head. its just great. fast, mobile, decent armour, a fat lrm tube and a big fucking lightning cannon. simple to pilot really, you can focus on the move and shoot and fundamentals instead of juggling 50 different weapon systems. its literally 'stinger / wasp, but bigger and better' so PERFECT for any kind of unit, since the stinger or wasp is like THE mech every fucking cadet learnt to pilot in.

>>97265462I've seen people run Mario Kart with it. Ironically, I think races are what Gaslands is worst at, because rarely does anyone actually finish the race. It's a huge collision clusterfuck right at the start, then weapons come online and the idea of actually racing goes out the window. I much prefer deathmatches or some of the arena types with goals to accomplish.
>>97269328What's the best mode to teach some new players (including myself) and let them have some fun? 1 car each and deathmatch?
>>97269808the official kids ruleshttps://planetsmashergames.com/sdm_downloads/gaslands-kids-mode/2 pages!
>>97269328I largely found the opposite. Races had several viable approaches including smashing everything immediately, dashing to the first gate and opening fire, and racing off into the sunset. Deathmatch games don't give much hope to light, speedy teams. Flag Tag mostly went too far the other way as a couple of buggies could usually rush some flags while a heavier team had barely got started. And Saturday Night Live was hugely sponsor dependent.
>>97254792Realistically you wouldn't have a missile poking out (if it's clearing the door, it's mid launch), but a Minuteman style door wouldn't be too hard to make; just a hunk of foam for the door and a couple of pieces of sprue for tracks.

>>97270706Brother I just got here the fuck are you talking about. Also it's not my fault that Infernals are the best splat and puts all other splats to shame especially Solars. My opinion on the Realm is that fucking around on the Blessed Islands is probably a bad idea unless you have a solid game plan and are higher essence but it also just depends on what you're doing. Reaction time is measured in days instead of weeks or months for those places really far from the Blessed Islands. A solaroid who thinks they can't lose is just setting themselves up for disaster. Depending on where on the Blessed Islands the reaction time could be measured in under an hour if not immediate, like if you fuck around in the cities. It's the place for spy games or the end game, although you can do plenty more with it. I personally think a Suicide Squad or Tournament arc would be interesting but that's me.
>>97270732>daysFaster, if they're on the ball and an instant message went out. In 1e/2e, airships are something the Blessed Isle's chapterhouses might still have access to and the Realm's more common models can go up to 200mph with a Dragonblooded sailor piloting them. With the spacing between the two chapterhouses they could get anywhere on the Isle in hours. In the case where astrology is in play, response time could actually be negative - and astrology is much more likely to pin you down on the Blessed Isle, because the Convention on the Center employs every Chosen of Secrets it can get it's hands on (and Chejop can get his hands on a lot), and because it's much easier to arrange thaumaturgic astrology when you have control over the locals. In 3e the Wyld Hunt isn't an overarching organisation, just the name for 'when Dragonblood group up and hunt Anathema', so reaction speed on the Isle is anywhere from nothing (if nobody cares) to negative (if a Sidereal cares).

>>97268332A lot of higher CR "creatures" are smarter than 99% of NPCs. Most demons, devils, a lot of aberrations and so on. >Besides, DMs who thrown NPCs with WBL at their players will be screwed when the players win and just take all that WBL for themselves from a single encounter. To be fair I have personal bias, our DM was in the "as long as it makes sense it goes" camp. So we got shit like if we got into a ambush it wouldn't be 2-3 guys, no, it would be fucking 12 orcs with bows and spears. At level 1. And if you gave NPC/monsters time to prepare? They actually would prepare for you as much as they can. Getting their magical items was a minimum requirement to survive.
>>97268332>>97270111I mean NPC WBL is lower than players so it's not THAT bad. And they'll have some of it in expendable items that they may use a few charges of in the fight.

>>97269066if they dont barter they have a fixed price decrease based on the merchant's disposition against the party. Hostile pays 10-15% of the price, unfriendly 30%, indifferent 50%, friendly 70%, and helpful 90%. This is based on most merchants being indifferent and buying at 50% according to the base rules. If they barter it is usually around +-25% of the base price. merchant uses appraise and tries to undercut them and then an exchange of either knowledge local, bluff, or some other social skill ensues. This is for mundane items and not for magical items.
>>97270227>>97270111the supposed dnd loot economy is built out of expendables and a large part of the encounters are supposed to be non human and therefore not drop any loot besides some hard coin or valuables at their lair
Why were so many of the "OG" game designers insufferable faggots? It seems like the vast majority of game designers from the 70s and 80s were self-obsessed dickheads who openly hated and looked down on their customer base. There were obviously exceptions, and some like Gygax would go on to regret and apologize for it, but still, what made so many "professionals" back then such fags?Pic related: WFRP author James Wallis's response to a letter criticizing how railroaded The Enemy Within campaign was.

D&D grew out of the wargaming scene. A lot of games from that era featured options for long running campaigns with primitive RPG mechanics while still remaining inherently adversarial. Like e.g. Circus Maximus was a racing game that allowed players to carry their chariot teams over from race to race while investing xp to improve their drivers, chariots and horses. Players were strongly encouraged to do things like wreck opposing chariots and run over one another's drivers to reset their opponents' progress. That was the gaming ecosystem that produced the first generation of dungeon masters. They simply took that mindset and carried it over to D&D and other RPGs.

>>97266273The chance of rolling a 14 or lower on a D20 seven times in a row is approximately 8.24%.Here is the breakdown of the math: * Chance per roll: Rolling a 14 or lower on a D20 is a 14/20 chance, which is 70% (0.7). * Chance for 7 in a row: You multiply the probability by itself 7 times (0.7^7). In other terms: * Percentage: ~8.24% * Odds: Roughly 1 in 12.So while it is a streak, it is actually not statistically rare. It is about as likely as rolling a natural 1, 2, or 3 on a single d20 roll.

Tried creating a campaign for Ruthless Heavens, Boundless Fate, and unfortunately, this one is a very bad game, despite the stellar reviews. His worst one I tried. The structure is way too uneven, the mechanics are half-assed, there's semblance of cool ideas and powers here but a bad mix of what you're supposed to randomly generate and what is already there. To make a proper campaign of this, you'd be required to use a lot of supplementary material from other assorted system-agnostic works. And then it has the classic problems that this guy's games all have have. The stupid natural 1 and natural 20 stuff being widely pervasive in every single element of the game doesn't make for good long-term campaigns and then there's a bunch of random tables where getting a 1 just kills you. A lot of this stuff is fun to read but worthless to actually engage with mechanically. This guy is spreading himself too thin. I don't have much faith for his extraction shooter game.Very disappointed.

I'm toying with the idea of making a Tamerlane-equivalent a Tiefling figure. Would that be appropriate?
>>97267934just play gamma world with them and tell them its dnd
So, I'm thinking of giving various races more Biblical-inspired and mythological origins, or at least that's something people belief in-universe. Let's see if it works:Humans: Children of SethElves: Children of LilithTieflings: Children of Cain.Wanderers of the Land of Nod. Bearers of the Mark of Cain.Aasimar: Children of the Nephalim. The descendants of the giant/heroes who ruled and tyrannized the world. Destroyed by the Flood.Dwarves: The Line of Tubal-Cain. Or Golems. Orcs: The Children of Ham or descendants of beast-men. I have to decide.Dragonborn: The Children of Leviathan.Does this work?
>>97270742Consider making Orcs the Children of Ishmael (the "wild donkey of a man" whose hand is against everyone) or, more mythologically, the Descendants of Nimrod. Nimrod was a "mighty hunter" and the builder of the Tower of Babel; Orcs could be the remnants of the culture that tried to storm heaven and were "scattered and broken."
>>97270742How about? Halflings: Line of Abel. Gnomes: Line of Naamah (Tubal-Cain's sister)
