No one's asking you to. Though the franchise is severely lacking in fan content as of late, no doubt because of Bloodlines 2 and 5th edition being mediocre
>>
>>97236074
Arguably, making a Tremere silver summoner to kill Garou is a red flag in and of itself. Or obsessively hoarding silver bullets "just in case". It's kind of meta gaming but it's not a dealbreaker.
>>
>>97236092
>>97236074
And this is the reason Tremere are cringe.
Only powerplaying faggots play them
>>
>>97236136
Nah, Thaumaturgy is genuinely cool and engaging. It appeals to the same type of guy playing a DnD Wizard appeals to. Just because they have the capacity to be retarded powergamers doesn't mean every Tremere is going to be one. Incidentally they just have it the easiest.
>>
>>97236136
My issue with the Tremere and the people drawn to them is that the Tremere are the Reasonable Marines of the World of Darkness.

The Reasonable Marines (and their alter-ego the Knights Inductor) were a /tg/-made homebrew chapter of space marines for 40K. They were designed to be logical, practical, pragmatic and reasonable before all else, putting efficiency and rationality before any sort of dogma or belief, facts over feelings, that sort of thing. The fact that they were so much smarter than all of the other dumb space marines of 40K drew an audience of obnoxious nerds who huffed their own farts and wrote stories about the Reasonable Marines winning impossible battles by applying their intellects and outwitting terrifyingly powerful opponents. Eventually, people came to recognise that not only were the Reasonable Marines a power fantasy for insufferable autists who thought they were so much smarter than the setting that they were writing about, but all of these stories about them winning every battle thanks to their tacticool genius just sucked the fun out of the rest of the setting too.

Tremere and Tremere players are often the same. They're vampires for the people who fetishise pragmatism and rationality and get an erection whenever they get to outwit all of those other silly emotional vampires with their logic and reason, who are able to accomplish almost anything because they're so crafty and clever and can hoist everyone else by their own petard. So whenever I read posts by this anon who won't stop rambling about his Tremere Stolen Moon shit, I roll my eyes. Congratulations, your tacticool genius special snowflake clan outwits the werewolves that are purposefully written to be flawed and irrational and steals the few advantages that they have, because you're so smart and they're so dumb. Have a medal.

After about 8 years since I last DM'ed a game, I've been asked to run a session.
Unfortunately my books - adnd, 2e, 3e, 3.5, 4e, and 5e are in storage two states away.
And i prefer physical copies. Thanks to critical role and the movie DND books have gone up in price which is weird.
>4e books are ~10-15$ now.

Is it viable to run 4e in 2025? I don't remember hating it and I still remember some home rules to streamline combat to speed it up a touch.
Does anyone have suggestions for 1-3lvl adventures or campaign settings?
>4e thread I guess
>>
I don't care that you prefer physical.
Download OSE and run them Hole in the Oak. Keep it simple.

https://necroticgnome.com/products/old-school-essentials-basic-rules
>>
>>97235255
4e has gone through something of a rennaissance in the last 5 or so years, with a few fairly-popular games adopting some of its design principles and focus on finely-textured grid-based tactical combat with descrete abilities, so I would say that yes, it is absolutely viable to run it in 2025. The cracked character builder with all the resources are still out there for free if you know where to look, but you don't really need the software if you have everything and know where to look and how to find the eratta.
>>
>>97235255
It was never viable to play 4e.

4e had a number of issues. Massively bloated baseline monster HP. The At-Will. Encounter, Utility, Daily ability structure while I think a great evolution was hamstrung by a lot of the later abilities just being slightly better versions of lower level ones and a general sameyness that wasn't addressed until the Power of X books. A lot of floating - or + 1s that come and go every round makes keeping track tricky. But if you are just gonna run a single session then had them premades that around around level 3 or if it's a small say 3 or 4 part adventure then start then at one and level thenm when they reach each part so they can experience it and you get more monsters to throw at them. A lot of the early adventures aren't very good out of the box imo and need a lot of work to bring them up to snuff. They made one or two "Dungeon Delve books" that had an sortment of premade dungeons with paper thin reasons for the party to go loot them. You could just string some other together with a more unified "plot".
>>
>>97235255
Look, I love 4e, and it is incredibly easy to run and play in 2025.
But running it purely from physical copies is less than ideal. They don't include the errata, several useful books are unavailable, and the online compendiums have everything in one place for easy reference. It can be done, just make sure you use MM3 math for the enemies and have the errata handy. Buy what you can and print the remaining books, they are all available online for free.
The generally recommended adventures are HS1 The Slaying Stone, Reavers of Harkenwold, Madness at Gardmore Abbey, and Thunderspire Labyrinth. For new to 4e players, I also generally recommend Prey for Smiley Bob.

Wanted to talk about advice on GMing, settings you prefer, and styles or issues you as a GM have. I generally tend to prefer dark fantasy or sci-fi settings rather than trying something a little different.

I also tend to have a style, depends on the system though, where i have a combat heavy session or two and then a more intrigue/exploration focused session. I have been working on how to better balance games I run, but trying to tie that to timing a game session gets tricky at times.

Another issue I noticed is that puzzle solving or investigative games can be a lot harder for a player to get into the mindset for than the dm. It is easy to think everything you planned makes sense when you thought it out in your head but the players might not have the same line of thought.

I don't see what any of that has to do with the Hickman manifesto.
>>
>>97232124
There's no dichotomy but continuity, one path leads to the other, that's why you need to master both

>>97233834
Here's the actual one:
1. A player objective more worthwhile than simply pillaging and killing.
2. An intriguing story that is intricately woven into play itself.
3. Dungeons with an architectural sense.
4. An attainable and honorable end within one to two sessions playing time.
...as you can see i simply expanded the meaning of each point for clarity.
>>
>>97232001
It sounds like you spent a long time running a game where there were no real consequences for anything, swerved into a game where there were serious but complex and unpredictable consequences for everything, and swerved again to make the consequences more straightforward and obvious. And now you're wondering why your players are struggling to keep up.
Did you discuss these changes with them, or just expect them to pick up "clues"?
>>
>>97232001
Have you tried putting in place systems to give players tips/answer their questions in a very explicit way?
I play Mini Six a lot, and one way you can spend a Hero Point (akin to inspiration in 5e) is to get info from the GM. Sometimes that's a "I'm stuck" but sometimes that's more like "Hey, GM, we're trying to X but worried about Y. What's your take?" and the GM makes a best faith attempt to put the players on the track they want either by saying "I wouldn't worry about Y" or reminding them of the Y expert they met two sessions back. Generally characters are more plugged-in to the world than your players can ever be, so it's not a cheat to give players a limited resource that mimics that connection.
Plus, if the way to replenish that resource is "go do hero shit" then you get a virtuous cycle of players knowing what to do and then getting it done.
>>
>>97218634
>As far as investigation games go, that tends to work better in dedicated systems

I was looking into it, and is the cheapest way to become an interstellar mercenary with some tactical viability to use a modified K-1 with a single platoon of BA infantry? 12 BA troops can do some pretty lightweight anti-pirate jobs and the K-1 would be able to carry enough cargo to keep the troops and crew supplied for extended engagements.

>Did this Palatine ghoul, embrace, care for, recruit from, organize, or had any connection whatsoever with neo-nazis and/or people involved in the fentanyl trade?
She didn't embrace anybody from those, and ghouled few from those. Her underlings did everything listed. Overall, her organization didn't filter Kine material very rigorously; attached is a file from my records showing what sort of Kindred and ghouls we had to cut through to harm her operations. They acquired neo-nazis and bikers as brute force, drug dealers as a source of cash and drugged-out bodies, local militias as firepower and so on.
We've made an effort to cull whoever didn't flee Bridgeport, but nature abhors a vacuum, so those five could easily be survivors out of their mind due to vitae withdrawal, or some sort of asset of hers or of one of her underlings doing somebody's bidding by this suicidal attack, or just out-of-towners who moved in on seemingly free turf, or something else.
I will, regardless, inform my coterie to make sure they're available if this is the first attack of many.

>>97235080
Thank you, the footage will come in handy.
> For what it's worth there were no obvious external signs of Vicissitude.
Unfortunately, that's not much of a tell; the Palatine was remarkably, if sporadically, careful about not leaving signs of her work and at least somewhat tried to avoid giving herself away, until she decided to bring out the fucking death unicorn and her other toys. Still good to know.
>Now the dolls are looking on the inside, we'll send you pictures if they find anything.
Appreciated, thank you. I'll be forwarding everything to the Brujah I've had with me, provisionally still named Tats here, she'll be the one to contact if it'll prove necessary while I am busy with the flight. She's a professional at turning people to pulp and has a good, if angry and spiked, head on her shoulders, good pick to turn to.
>>
>>97234780
Thy will be done. I'll bring along two ghouls to manage the plane and otherwise handle affairs if we end up unable to arrive before sunrise, and a member of my coterie as backing just in case. Beyond that, the plane can accomodate an extra eight passengers counting you two, has a spacious recreational area, private sleeping accomodations, ample space for Kindred to retreat to if sun's a problem, multi-layered window coverings to minimize sunlight risk, and plenty cargo space. So, nearly whatever or whoever you'd potentially like to bring to Europe, or from Europe, can be brought.

Time-wise, we'll be leaving as early as possible from New York, and no later than at 3:30AM from Rome, to account for the sun's movement and the flight length; the ghouls could fly us during the day, even, if you're fine with that and would prefer to get the most out of your night in Rome, but otherwise that's the most reasonable timetable. The expected flight time is from around five to seven hours, depending on how weather will be and how obnoxious we'll be able to get with some of the plane's particular aspects - it's a special thing. You'll see what I mean in person.

In that case yes, the whole night in Rome, or the next good thing, please. I'll DM you the full list of passengers.

I feel like it would be a good stress reliever, setting up ridiculous contrived ways to blue ball some princeling or merchant

Hey, I’m looking at the Infernal Melee Charm Crimson Wind Ribbons. I’m not seeing a reason why you can’t trigger it off itself. You trigger it normally, make a reflexive withering attack, trigger it again, and so on. Assuming your dice rolls work out this seems to be legal.

Along these lines I can't figure out this charm. I'm sure it's obvious but it's not clicking for me. Feeling rather dumb desu.

Surpass the Silent Wind-
If multiple characters use this Charm or a similar effect in a test of speed, each of them counts as having rolled one success more than the highest number of successes on any one roll.

Exalted doesn't have a crash of wills mechanic like 2e!NWoD have, because of this we get these kind of issues.

Sounds to me just like everyone using such an effect being faster than everyone who doesn't use such an effect, and equally fast to each other, regardless of any rolls.
