Back when I lived in Tennessee I remember seeing ads for this every now an then, was it actually any good?
>>
Yes, this was released early heroclix + mechwarrior dark age. I was playing mageknight at the time. Pirates was fantastic, they ran local events
>>
It was good and had a cool theme, but it was a nightmare to collect. Wizkids later did Rocketman that was somewhat similar (Same plastic cards, etc) and even if the theme and art was shit at least they made it better to build for it as there was cards with lots of generic crew for that game (Pirates also did it in the later editions but they weren't nation specific, they were "lost crew")

On a game design stand of view it was really good, there are lots of cool things like the giant crabs (titans) that you could have a crew piloting it... Or forts that you could build in wild islands by paying gold. Or fortillas, or Mysterious Islands, etc
>>
My wife and I have two shoeboxes where we keep our assembled ships, though some are worse for wear. It was a relatively simple wargame that we probably played wrong, but we had fun with it, and liked the little boats enough to hold onto them over 20 years. Really liked my Spanish fleet.

I recall Rocketmen like the other anon mentioned, and I think there was a Star Wars game that had a similar "pop out and build" element, but worked by very different rules. I only ever had like one or two boosters for either of those, and nothing I particularly liked.

The spicier the better. I'll start to get the ball rolling:

MTG, DnD and Warhammer are actually good for the hobby. They get new people started in this hobby and they keep the trend chasers contained and away from the rest of the hobby.

Appealing to the normie masses is a necessary evil in order to keep what you love afloat. Even if it comes with the negative baggage of doing so.

Generals are good for /tg/.

>Gluing resin and metal isn't a big deal.
Until you have to pin a lead gun barrel or fix a broken part, then yeah its a big deal, and plastic cement doesnt work on either material so you have to deal with superglue
>>Carry them
>You just admitted to lacking the strength
I can lift 200 lead minis. But i dont WANT to. Its not a flex to carry around that much weight, its just inconvenient and needless
>Washing resin and metal isn't a big deal.
You know what is? Breathing the fumes from a printer or the dust from sanding it. Modern life has enough ways of giving me lung cancer and i dont need more
>A hot car will melt even hard plastic.
Yes, but resins soften at lower temperatures, so your spears will warp sooner and worse than on a plastic mini

If these people are so awful that they need to be contained away from us how is it a good thing that they're coming into the hobby?
>>
>>96490575
They’re retard nets that act as filters. The problematics stay in the net and those that would be good for the hobby go through the net. I think that’s what op is getting at.

Well, Tales of Arabian Nights has a PDF scanned by fans. I'm hoping people did it for this one as well. It looks like a fantastic game either way, but since we play through TTS, I'm unwilling to pay 60 bucks for a game I'd never actually play IRL.
Captcha: AWWVW. Hm
>>
>>96490362
Arabian Night’s Book of Tales was spiral bound, making it much easier to scan without damage. Arthurian Knights’ is hard bound and rather hefty as well, so you’d want an actual book scanner to do it safely.

Cool, then

This is Valwë but only her mother calls her that. She prefers Val. Val is half-elven and a dragon sorcerer. She likes experimenting with her magic as well as secretly reading romance stories. Dragon blood has been in her family line ever since her great, great grandmother romanced a gold dragon. She's 35 years old.

To mix up the design a bit I'd like it if her top had two straps instead of one, but instead of it being like a shirt I'd like the two straps to tie together behind her neck with the excess fabric dangling between her shoulder blades and leaving her back bare. I heard dragon sorcerers can grow dragon wings eventually and don't want anything getting ripped when they pop out. The colors are almost where I'd want them, but the red pants should ideally be like a dark charcoal gray. She should have some trailing spots of golden scales going down her neck, back, chest, and arms like the ones on her face.

Her personality is playful and generally happy but she has underlying anger issues that she's struggling with that comes out in combat. She believes in nuking her problems away and isn't very subtle with her spells (yet, maybe she'll grow into it since she's pretty young for a half-elf?)

Once more please forgive the game screenshot I don't have any art for her and my own scribbles are shit on a stick lol. I'm pretty excited for our first game

If you think Critical Role will use an advanced hexcrawl for their game just because they use the term west marches to describe it I'm sorry it isn't going to happen.
>>
>>96488491
Brennan is running it and he seems anal enough to make it work even if he's peak theatre kid
>>
>>96485157
No, that's open table. West Marches is a specific subset of open table campaign.

Though at least your misunderstanding is better than the complete mangling of the meaning that the Critical Role idiots are doing.

>>96488527
Maybe he could, but he isn't going to, because it's not actually a West Marches; there aren't even rotating parties, but instead 3 distinct parties in the same world.
>>
I've been thinking about putting together a West March for my local player grounps but I'm hung up at the actual mapping part. The guy whose game coined the term apparently didn't use hexes at all, so that players wouldn't explore a hex and never return to it thinking they found all there was or will be there. Exploration was a lot more natural, just player made maps and the PCs explored in directions using landmarks as guides. There were many regions, and 100 square miles was "average" for one.
https://arsludi.lamemage.com/index.php/94/west-marches-running-your-own/

So what's confused me is how the hell are PCs supposed to find locations that aren't immediately visible from the surrounding area? He mentions using rumors in town, but also not having NPC adventurers, leaving exploring entirely up to the players, so where are rumors coming from if it's an uninhabited frontier? Maybe the players aren't the first explorers but those that did aren't around anymore? But then how do players just stumble upon more hidden locations when they just pick a direction and walk? And when it's something too far from town for any feasible rumors to start?
Maybe I'm overthinking it all. Has anyone else actually had any experience with more natural exploration or have any good resources or examples for it?

For mage 20th what is the optimal way to spend your bonus points? I feel like you'd have to be pretty very big brain to actually start with Arete one and try to get eight spheres at character creation. On the other hand I feel as if Arete 3 is required to be good at casting magic, but not necessarily the greatest for setting up a good foundation for your mage by having access to nodes, blessings, contacts, and etc. Any veterans here who have advice other than it depends on the storyteller?

>GW dropping support for school clubs

That's a fucking low blow that, probably one of the things they got right and did more of because there wasn't much of it back 20 years ago.

Youre right, you can't just read the books and play, if they remove support for you it turns to incomprehensible gibberish.

do they get financed by GW or something like that?
>>
>>96490410
Free paint and rulebooks, probably some guy comes in and teaches the rules.
For a while GW was trying to expand their market and get children to play tabletop, but they've also priced children out of the market. Nobody's buying their kid Warhammer models for the prices GW asks for.
