Why does lichdom exist when you can just clone yourself in 5e?
>>97223626Because your clone living on isn't the same as your consciousness continuing.
>>97223626In addition to the continuity question >>97223655 poses which is quite difficult and generally costly to answer (which varies by edition, which is in-universe split between obtuse changes in how magic functions and versions of the spell), lichdom makes you a lot harder to put down in the first place, brings you back faster, for as many times as you can get away with for a single up-front cost, and actually "solves" aging fully.
>>97223626IDK about 5e, but in many of the earlier editions your soul adheres to your racial lifespan. Spells can stretch your lifespan a limited amount, slowing ageing or giving you the statistically unlikely but theoretically possible best lifespan while keeping you younger than you look - like a wizard looking ~50 from the ages of 50 to 140, then dying. But there was usually a limit in place that prevents you from attaining immortality while in possession of a mortal soul, which is why lichdom was appealing to some. You had to tap into some kind of necromantic bullshit to acquire eternal existence on the material plane, otherwise your soul would "wear out" and rejoin the cycle or whatnot.Clone spells combined with spells that diverted your soul into them if you died unexpectedly were great for staying YOUNG and for avoiding surprise deaths, but they couldn't make you immortal, just long-lived, iirc.
>>97223626You can clone and transfer conciousness into it, yes. That is what some do. But not all. Some prefer the even safer and more permanent version.
>>97223626Hehehe. Boner
I feel like this edition has alot of objectively bad things about it and is absolutely where the alot of worst qualities of current editions showed up. But I feel like I prefer playing this edition compared to a lot of previous editions and 10th edition. Its a weird transitional period where there's still a lot of the old units that haven't been legended yet while still having the fucking Primaris lot. Its strange but I don't feel like I'm missing out on much staying on this edition and playing with friends casually instead of going back to playing the current edition.
>>97217254I recall in 7th playing with Sisters of Battle. That I simply spammed Immolator with twin multi-melta, as much meltaguns dominions, flamer battle sisters and deeptriking seraphins with shred as I could, then fill up the rest with penitent engines. It worked surprising well against Necrons
9e was just 10e with more stupid bullshit to remember
>>97213017>Nu40kDo you mean units? >>97223748>What kind of other items could go into its slot? Is this just a must have or is there competition?Mechs are built out of parts and parts have "Slots". Slots are basically weapons slots which represent both Bulk and Hands necessary to wield. A one handed sword uses one slot, a two handed rifle uses two slots and a two handed heavy gatling gun uses 3 slots. You're basically using up one weapon slot (usually out of 5-6, with 2 of them being your two hands) as a shield instead of having an additional weapon (and you'll want to have weapon variety because there are no classes, and ammunition costs money)There are normal shields too and mechs have Shield Block and Quick Draw from the get-go, but you'll mostly want to spend your reaction with other much more useful thingsThe idea is that repairing the shield is less expensive than repairing the mech's HP, so it's a good option if the player doesn't have any interesting weapons left to pick and wants something to up their survivability without sacrificing action economy. I could also make variants that have more HP but cover less AC, or have more hardness but less HP.
>>97222622Most people treat Hell's Rebels as the "birth" of NuPaizo. The water broke with Wrath of the Righteous but that still had tons of edgy stuff like shit succubi, the Demon Lord of Lust sucking your dick, and an honest to god Redeemed Succubus that wants handholding and smooches.
>>97223264No fault to you, I imagine your campaign would be pretty cool. But you do remind me why I find attempts at "automating" the shield rules to be a bit a fools errand. I had similar thoughts way back at the playtest of 2e when I REALLY hated how shields work before someone explained why they were like that. When we start needing to add math on math, it does start to show why D&D5e just have it be a flat AC bonus, boring as it is to do such, and why PF2e makes sure you are USING the shield. At this point, I would argue you should either have something that let you Raise A Shield or gain Damage Resistance while doing something like, like Striding or Striking. Tie it into the "strategically turn their body" part. Anything to avoid making checking your AC more a pain.
>>97223733>avoid early 2E APS up to Abomination VaultsThat’s a shame, I kind of wanted to do Extinction Curse because of the circus theming.
>>97224207I can see where you're coming from. Yeah, having to remember that you have the passive shield and remembering what it's target AC instead of just having an AC bonus that's always on can be a bit crunchy. I think my players wouldn't mind it since our gameplay already has a bit of "we have a notepad on the side with important shit for us to not forget when playing" but I'll think about it for a bit

Magic should be rare, mysterious, superstitious. It should take time to use and be exhausting to cast When did fantasy magic and wizards turn in Avatar the Last Airbender shooting fire and lightning out their assholes?
>>97217677I agree, however i understand more people seem to like flashy magic. How i think of it is people like lovecraftian and hate lovecraft. >>97222778Any advice? I rolled well but I feel like the stats are a bit awkward.I'll go with custom lineage and +2 Str to 19, then I take either Crusher (not that useful until I get Manifest Echo at 3) and +1 Str to 20 or take Sentinel (and at lvl4 vice versa). At lvl6 I'll ASI +2 into I guess Con but then I'll end up at 17 which is kind of awkward because it doesn't push it to 18 or am I overthinking it?
>>97224242what I mean is you cannot pick up books and have a balanced game. That shit takes experience, of both the game, your players, and a sense of how things are going and ability to adjust things on the fly. A first time dm is not gonna have that. So whether you play a busted class or not, it's not gonna matter. Although, Energy Reserve (Magic; Fast Recharge, 10/sec., +500%) [18/lvl] without Regeneration might be cheaper if anyone plans to take 9 or fewer levels of ER.>learning individual spells seems very easyIf wizards can ignore spell/magery prerequisites, then that could be represented by a wildcard Charm perk that waives the prerequisites for whatever spells you feel should be easier to learn: Charm! We are required to note how they were the first actual non-nomadic, indoor dwelling people to have existed on earth, while also stating that they were more advanced than even early 20th century modern nations. There was a concerted effort to ensure that any discovery made post 2001 leave mention that the cities Harappa and Mohenjo-daro were more sophisticated than any other pre-20th century city in the world, and without any factual evidence for the claim. It was a requirement by several individuals involved in the Archaeological Survey of India. which has only become significantly worse due to twenty years of hearsay and rumors.

>>97223581Player notes are great. Players should generally strive to take notes. If the group doesn't have at least one person with a strong memory and a note taking habit, they will be worse off for it.There IS still a difference. When you play the game in text, literally every moment can be archived. Not just the information that you want to refer back to for practical reasons, but the scenes exactly as they happened. You can refamiliarize yourself with things that happened, sure, but you can also literally go back and appreciate them again, without just relying on your memory. You might even spot small details that wouldn't have caught your attention before, just because they're still there for you to catch again. In my usual group, I'm not the note taker, but I remember most things well enough that I can bring up things that they might have overlooked, so we collaboratively act as the group's ability to recall details. But I also do some stuff on the side over text, and I can see clear value in just being able to go back and read. Even if you're just looking for details, being able to CTRL+F your way for specific words is a huge advantage.
