How do you justify a "pest race" like goblins or rat people in your setting? Why wouldn't the dominant species make a concentrated effort to eradicate them if they were a problem?

The more simple and succinct the message the further down it reaches in terms of both social class and IQ levels, it's also common on brand taglines and election slogans.

Ok real talk. Do you think design choices like this were what ultimately killed AoS? Or were there other factors at play?

The belief that some people are deserving of hate is itself a belief, you imbecile. Mindset is itself defined as a series of ideas and beliefs that shape your behavior. You are repeating superficially nice sounding cliches with nary a thought to what you are saying, which is the very thing you have accused you mirror opposite of being.

I don't know what you seek to accomplish, but the only thing you have accomplished is demonstrate that leftists love to project.

I haven't kept up with 40k lore in a long while but I just found out that they brought this guy back for no real reason and I find it really cringe. What I liked about the old lore was that humanity was in decline, the Imperium that once was is a long distant memory, the heroics of the past is shoruded in uncertainty and ambiguity and all that remains is the rot and decay. Now we have a dude from the past that has just come back and he is totally badass and cool and is gonna fix everything and also any ambiguity that makes the past mysterious and interesting is now gone because there are people alive who can backup what happened. It feels less grimdark and more marvel super hero shit. I don't really like it.

Wanted to talk about advice on GMing, settings you prefer, and styles or issues you as a GM have. I generally tend to prefer dark fantasy or sci-fi settings rather than trying something a little different.

I also tend to have a style, depends on the system though, where i have a combat heavy session or two and then a more intrigue/exploration focused session. I have been working on how to better balance games I run, but trying to tie that to timing a game session gets tricky at times.

Another issue I noticed is that puzzle solving or investigative games can be a lot harder for a player to get into the mindset for than the dm. It is easy to think everything you planned makes sense when you thought it out in your head but the players might not have the same line of thought.

I strongly recommend reading the Kobold Guides. They're really top-notch. Check the Rchive for them.
>>
>>97218290
I've learned not to lock main plotline progression behind puzzles; like a door or something.
But "best possible ending" will be, as well as all the best loot.
Competent evil wizards don't just leave their best shit lying around in storage cupboards with nothing but a deadbolt and a green slime to protect it.
Best thing is to give your players inscrutable hints; a map with a cypher, a key to an unknown lock, or rumours of a treasure in a jungle ziggurat.

Take a few of these elements and blend them together.
With skill, you can make your players "feel" like they solved a puzzle even when they didn't, just by giving them the components piecemeal; real puzzles should be presented alongside physical props; something tactile like a printout or a real sliding puzzle box.

That's scratching some old memories. Isn't that the Paladin that some fag in 2009 or something posted with a big sob story about how it belonged to his dad that recently passed away, and then a bunch of anons in the thread figured out that the story was bullshit cause the character sheet didn't make a lick of sense with AD&D rules?
>>
>>97218290
Almost all the problems I see people have with RPGs are communication problems. Talk with your fucking players. Note that that means listening as well. Be clear what you expect from them, what you want the focus of the game to be, what sort of tone you want, and so on. Don't expect them to read your mind.
>>
>>97219648
The kobold guides and the lazy dungeon master guides are pretty bad in my opinion. The lazy dungeon master stuff started ok if a little basic, but then went into shit not even about the games.

What's the best shotgun you've read from this year?
Mite b the Moss Covered Arrowhead one, but that might just be a goof I like. It's a decent scenario, but making it stone age sidesteps a lot of the difficulty writing investigation and combat in modern games.

What's the weirdest that's not shit?
The Everyone Is John scenario is either good fun or a disaster damp squib at the table.

The Dog is good - simple notes and basic structure with some evocative optional stuff included.

Not that I know of, but The Trove has almost all of 5.0 in it, and I think it might have the core rules for 5.5. You'll only find torrents, but if you search The Trove Updated reddit on google you should find the October update.

There's a need for a "this is all of 5.0" torrent, now that 5.0 is complete. The Trove is much bigger than a 5.X fan needs, after all.
>>
>>97221394
This is ultimately a weird claim and it is a strange one to marry as hard as you've been doing. 3.0 and 3.5 were both pretty successful, and none of the quotes in this thread dispute that, but there's another important detail; Pathfinder. When D&D launched 4ed, Pathfinder made its entire brand and company on continuing 3.5 with Pathfinder 1. This represented a pretty real fracture in the community, with some sticking with 3.X, some moving to Pathfinder, and some moving to 4e. While 4e was hoping to get some new players (and I'm sure it did, just not as many as it wanted), Pathfinder was both quite successful and entirely carved out of just a FRACTION of 3.5 players. If 3.5 wasn't a success, Paizo wouldn't have put all their eggs in the "modify 3.5 slightly and then release stuff for that" basket, because you definitely wouldn't want to go chasing a fraction of a failed edition.

3.X was a big edition, and Pathfinder was happy to grab any of its continuation.

Starting off with a common and retarded ESLism, nice.
>3.0 and 3.5 were both pretty successful
Overall? Absolutely not. On release? Yeah duh, core always sells well. Then whether the edition can stick around depends entirely on whether it's actually capable of player retention.
>but there's another important detail; Pathfinder
According to Paizo themselves, Pathfinder has always been irrelevant and has never actually been capable of competing with D&D. Therefore it is also irrelevant here, and especially irrelevant in a conversation of which edition of D&D is the most successful.
By the way, PF2e sells many times better than 1st edition ever did.

You know, I always find it odd that while Nurgle and Khorne have proper chaos space marines that represent them in the Khorne berserkers and plague marines, the same cannot be said about Slaanesh and Tzeentch. Like, shouldn’t Tzeentch marines should be something like a sorcerer unit, or a heavy mutant marine unit? And I don’t know what Slaanesh should have got to be honest
>>
>>97221709
I think so. Player 3 is foaming at the mouth for the chance to kill daemons and already delivered two IC rousing speeches. We got a "daemons could be here. With the warp, you can go anywhere you want" joke and we pretended we never started doing DW and were instead playing our other campaign.

>>97221751
They're all new players but one, a big fight against a greater daemon would've been too tough for their level, especially since no one would've had fun cause only the librarian is equipped to battle them effectively, and the main enemy are Nids.

>did that test completely wrong
That's what I was going for, to be fair. Completely flip the expectations of how a normal test should go, hence offering players to pick a -20 penalty. The highest WP player failed his 90% chance to succeed, while the lower one passed his 18% twice, so the RNG was also tzeenchian. The reward for the room was a fate point, so they got that back as well, no "gotcha! you wasted resources on an illusion".
>>
>>97221929
Slaanesh does have his Noise Marines though, who are supposed to represent love for extreme stimuli
Tzeench has plenty of sorcerers serving him, which aren't relly a "unit" per se, but it would be hard to make one of them seeing how individualistic they tend to be. And rubric marines are associated with him, who are a resurt of sorcery
>>
>>97221976
I know that, but they don’t represent them well like how Khorne berserkers and plague marines represent Nurgle and Khorne. Like, which part of rubric marines scream Tzeentch? These automatons could well be Nurgle units considering how tough they are
>>
>>97221946
I get you, it IS fucky and memorable, especially for a one-shot where Corruption consequences don't matter barring some very specific rolls.
But it also would make me very wary of the GM invalidating character choices in the middle of a campaign like that. Spending XP to be good at X thing just to be told anti-X happens because Chaos would be a frustrating experience.

So personally, I'd need that "I wouldn't do that in a campaign" said out loud by you, if I were your player.

I have the models from a random Ebay BFG lot I bought but were they even called Dark Eldar in that Armada supplement or just Eldar Corsairs? I can't even remember at this point and I refuse to walk the 10ft to go check my book case.
>>
>>97222025
Dark Eldar Raiders, there are only a couple of pages in Armada. There were some pretty beefy errata on their points values, rules, and gear, especially in the 2010 rules review.
>>
>>97222099
It was a pretty contentious time from memory. Eldar were rightly hated for their usual cheating bullshit which in this case was free column shift. And Necrons were disliked since they had some bullshit as well where if you weren't forcing them to Brace for Impact every turn you basically lost.
>>

132 KB
132 KB JPG
>>97222107
The critical part about Necrons isn't the damage immunity, although that's annoying as shit. It's their ability to auto-disengage after inflicting a few losses and win without really playing at all. Likewise the Eldar Move-shoot-move haha you can't touch me thing got them much more flak than holofields, which is why nobody really hated on the DE. Holofields are just a check that keeps people from loading up on lances and ordnance all day, every day, and generally the Eldar column shift is mostly compensated for by their tiny batteries and absurd prices. I never had serious problems dealing with Eldar, especially in a campaign.
>>
>>97222190
Lances were still arguably one of the better ways to deal with Craftworld Eldar since despite getting a save it was still a 50/50 and they felt damage far more than other fleets. Free column shift was just annoying since it largely meant anything not point blank wasn't super useful.

Meh, I don't think so. The ERE was cool as fuck but they were way too religious to be considered elves. Faith is most of the time a human characteristic in fantasy settings. Plus they weren't really insular or non-interventionist. Both characteristics that usually represent elves.

Just for the sake of argument i did use gurps as an introductory ttrpg and worked well (one of the guys eventually even became a gm and run gurps by himself).
To be fair the actual merit isn't imputable to the system itself but to me that i layed the game out in the most digestible manner incrementally introducing rules at the table own pacing of absorbing them. I genuinely believe you can use whatever ttrpg you like as introductory, the important things is the signal-noise ratio of the information conveyed. This whole thread is essentially moot.
