This is a second OSRG, seperate from the main osrg thread, where you CAN talk about 2e, retroclones, and any osr content you want.
This is different than the regular osrg as due to rampant trolling from a handful of bad actors, discussion is impossible.

I'll break it down in steps:
1. Gather your 2e books in a pile
2. Douse them in lighter fluid
3. Ignite them
4. Smoke fish over the resulting coals
5. Sell the fish for
6. PROFIT

>What are your favorite monster synergy encounters?
I'm the anon who posted >>97227844 earlier. I'm still liking the idea of were-whatevers serving as mounts until combat starts/a little after. If things get dire for them they may infect already injured minions. The drawback is that the new were-creatures would be basically guaranteed to be feral.
For a different idea I like the idea of a desert encounter where a bulette is after the party. Like the movie tremors there are some rocks that are safe spots to stand on. Unfortunately there is a monstrous bird that has started hunting with the bulette. When they stand on the rocks it tries to push the party members off and onto the sand. If someone is a Halfling or other small race, they risk just getting carried by the bird and dropped far away from the rocks. The bulette and the monster bird tend to split meals evenly, if someone gets caught out from the party they will do their best to catch that person.

What game, in your opinion, has the greatest potential for ruining friendships? What game turns your friends into a bunch of Mr. Hyde assholes that start swinging?

>>
>>97221035
This game is friendship STRENGTHENING, you dumb fuck. If you are playing with your mate(s), takes to be a fucking retard to go against each other and not against the outsiders. It also takes to be retarded to not have a dedicated "ally" that you can trust with, knowing he won't betray you. Either of you wins, and the other of you will be 2nd, and if neither of you is winning, you can drag down whoever is.
This is like TI 101, the bare basics of fucking strategy
And like many games like this, the backstabber only gets to backstab people once. After that, they are forever fucked, because everyone remembers they aren't trustworthy
>>
Junta.
Where you and your friends have to argue over the distribution of stolen foreign aid money, with long interruptions to resolve coup attempts. Great game. Will destroy friendships.
>>
>>97232577
My wife, brother in law, and a third accomplice absolutely broke junta. B-i-l and wife hoarded assassin cards, the, the remaining four of us could not gather enough resources to plot a solid coup, they dodged the handful of assassination attempts we were able to draw, and despite their own last minute infighting, they held together long enough (and broke our backs so well) that they couldnt recruit us as end game allies with any real use.
Great game though, found it hilarious to open up the rulebook and see the sample names in how assassinations work all match players in my east asian game group (who are all fantastic snakes).
They got a kick out of that in the group chat.

GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.
Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.

A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image. Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.

If you're wondering where to start:
- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.
- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.
- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.
- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.

Thread question: How often do you use an official GURPS setting? Which are your favorites?

Tactical Shooting p.55 as 'Molot APS'
>>
>>97229794
Huh, the description is oddly wrong. The gun was popularly used in full configuration (stock and suppressor) in the soviet afghan war as a backup weapon by pretty much anyone who could get their hand on it but especially Spetsnaz, and that carried until the war in the Donbass where it became sort of a status symbol.
>>
Is "I/we should have used GURPS for this" a recurring reflection? Because I probably am at this point.
>>
>>97232190
No, because the answer is always "yes".
I have played a lot of different games before playing GURPS and all of them would have been better if I had been playing gurps.

Yes. Its a thought that frequently comes up whenever we try to run something in any other system. Usually, the answer to "why don't we run this in gurps instead" is that it would be a lot of work on the GM's end to do it right.

obviously, clan skryre is the most advanced society in the setting. do you think they had access to warm, running water? you could use warpstone to heat the bath houses for example, and they had plenty of access to metal for plumbing.

Going to go very niche here: 1918/1919 storm in the west. Good game, simple, underappreciated compared to other more trendy ones. With a little bit of a fresh can of paint to gently adjust some aspects and maybe utilize the map for one or two more scenarios or maybe just a bit more optional complexity to add a bit more spice and you would have an EXCEPTIONAL beginner friendly replayable hex and counter

Everyone I know who watches Fatt Coville videos is a fucking terrible GM. I've never fully watched one and I am widely considered the best GM out of all 3 groups I'm part of. I am regularly requested to run campaigns. People borderline fall asleep in the games others run. There's also no tension because they know that these Coville acolytes will fudge rolls until all PCs survive the battle.

If you're a good GM, it's an inmate talent you can hone over time. You're born that way. If you aren't, then no amount of shitty advice is going to make up for your lack of talent. It just is what it is. This idea that everyone should "try" DMing is retarded. The idea that anyone can be good at it? lolno. Its like some fat divorced on who suddenly decides he's gonna become a famous author. Fat chance. Most people fucking suck at GMing. Hell, most of them suck at playing, but at least in that case the game depends less on them.

That's unfortunately, but they are trying and if you gently nudge them towards actually reading the GMing section in their system of choice, they will hopefully learn eventually. GMing is fucking hard and even if you are well versed in the rules, it is still something you can only get good at through lots of practice and lots of fucking up.

I remember having to fuck up half a dozen campaigns that either fizzled or crashed and burned before I ran a campaign so good that it kept going for 2 straight years.
>>
>>97231610
If someone doesn't have the ability to read the rules on their own then they are not cut out to GM
>>
>>97231712
They're just over eager. You don't have to handhold them, just strongly encourage them. It would help if you actually talked to them and told them that you have no interest in nannying them through every session.
>>
>>97231764
I've been begging people to read the rules for every game we've ever played for years. It's just a genetic thing I think
>>
>>97230596
While actually making the attempt is commendable, I think if you gently open the topic that understanding the rules will be more fun in the long run, hopefully he will listen

Here is my idea for what I'm using for a fusion setting, but it can work for just Requiem. Tremere are both a Clan and a Covenant. They don't get favored Disciplines, but they do get favored Themes (leaning towards Creation, Destruction, Transmutation) from the blood sorcery book. I was thinking to lean into them being outsiders who forced themselves into Kindred society, they don't do typical Embraces. Instead, they use a ritual to turn people into vampires. Their Clan weakness is they occasionally have to do the ritual again, otherwise they turn into Revanents and their blood bonds start to decay until they can perform it again.

Their Bloodlines are created by master blood sorcerers who have pioneered new branches of Thaumaturgy and modified their embrace ritual to add another Theme to specialize in it. It's possible to instead add a Bloodline Discipline, but that is probably rare.

The Tremere were accepted into Kindred society because they agreed to teach sorcery to other vampires (they do of course keep the good stuff to themselves). The Covenant is called the Order of Hermes. The Thaumaturgy the Covenant teaches has the favored Themes of Destruction and Transmutation. Admittedly, the Destruction one is mostly because Theban Sorcery and Cruac don't have it as a favored Theme. Non-Tremere Covenant aligned Bloodlines probably have Bloodline Themes instead of Disciplines since they're focusing on magic.
