Neat.
There's nothing wrong with paper tokens.
However; I tend to buy miniatures from smaller franchises; guys making generic fantasy and scifi ranges; the price is far more agreeable, and the variety is great, and I like them for dioramas.
I have plenty of Warhammer of course; but these are artifacts of childhood, and second hand purchases, and the odd gift.
I kitbash a lot, and of late I have begun practicing the art of scratch-building terrain, as my grognard forefathers once did.

Men who make/roleplay female characters, why do you?

When did Warhammer go from being a game about making themed armies in cool campaigns into being a sweatlord tournament game where people whine about balance and how your models must be Games Workshop approved with the right weapons and no kitbashing? What even happened to campaign play?

I've been on a space kick recently and want to run a sci-fi space campaign as the GM. What are the best systems for a flexible gaming experience without the autistic complexity of something like Shadowrun? I'm looking for a system that can run "magic" (Psionics, occultists, dark gods, etc) and high-tech weaponry and ships and stuff as well as madness mechanics mutations, cybernetics, horror elements, etc. Visiting weird planets, dealing with intergalactic politics, smuggling goods, assassinations, dealing with alien cultures, learning dangerous magic and technology, etc. I also want the players help make the setting so I'd prefer a flexible system that can handle a multitude of scenarios with cool aliens and stuff.

I've heard of Traveler, Starfinder, etc, I just wanna know what system(s) I should focus on learning about first. I'd rather not run it in a Star Wars DnD conversion or Feelings and Lasers. This crowd usually plays DnD or very simple games but are open to other games too. Again I've tried Shadowrun and I'd rather a system that isn't over-complicated and just has the hacking take up 90% of the screentime.

Yeah I think I wanna try and do a Dai Dark setting with huge helpings of other sci-fi stuff I'm into. Really I gotta decide if I like Dai Dark's/Underground Underground's (I love Q Hayashida) more warlock black magic fantasy inspired magic system where characters travel into black holes and have overpowered abilities or if I wanna go with Stellaris and The Shroud and it's psionic magic and interacting with psionic gods of alien ethics. Throwing in some helpings of Dead Space, Alien, Vampire Hunter D, Ghost in the Shell, Space Adventures Cobra, Patlabor, Akira, Blade Runner and all the other stuff I love from sci-fi and blend it all up. Again I still have to choose if between the warlock type of magic vs psionic magic, since I feel having both in the same setting MIGHT be too much for a sci-fi game. Or I might just not give a shit and just have both in the game for kitchen sink chaos.

>>97200936
I would do this possibly female, possibly male, possibly genderless evil space god ghost, born in the darkness of a black hole and a literal deity of death.

Warhammer 40k RP system
Most applicably Rogue Trader
Only War has the better vehicle rules, and arguably the best character creation and advancement rules
and Dark Heresy has the most familiar economy rules

Alternatively Traveller with a lot of homebrewing

>>97199699
I personally think SWN core gameplay system is a very poor fit for any gameplay let alone a sci fi rpg
But I agree that it has the best worldbuilding and faction gameplay tools, moreso because its competitors just don't than them being truly amazing, but scoring 'not bad' in a deserted competition is still the best around

Also Fuck this new garbage juice Captcha
>>
>>97202549
>and arguably the best character creation
Is that due to the regimental system that fills in anywhere from 1/4 to 3/5 of a starting character's sheet?
>and advancement rules
It shares that with DH 2e so how does it get ahead?
>>
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/TabletopGame/FadingSuns
This would be something close to what you are looking for

Is there a super system that is purpose built to integrate RPG scale, Skirmish, scale and wargame scale scenarios into one campaign?

I think that would be pretty epic. You might first go on an rpg party scale infiltration mission to get some kind of advantage for the next session that is a wargame, where if you succeeded, maybe you can hide a unit anywhere on the tabletop.
I think I heard people saying that it was kind of attempted in some Old DnD releases and ACKS, but it never seems to really be all that focused on or displayed in action much.

Would totally be a niche gameplay style that would require a group both up for rpg's and wargames, but I think it could be pretty epic.

It's how they got banned from reddit. Their discord doesn't know how to interact normally with the places they're trying to shill on.
>>
>>97173092
I've been tinkering with this for a while.
It's wrapped up in my attempt to create my own surrogate Grimdark setting to nurture my science-fantasy interests.

I'm experimenting with 2d6 dice curves, but it seems to be too shallow for what I want to do; I am not a maths head, so I don't have a lot of intuitions about what will work or not beyond research and brute forcing results for myself; I may well end up looking at the dice curve on a 3d6, but I feel like that would be too messy.
Dice mechanics ah?
The nuances I fear are somewhat beyond me.

I want my game to be operating at around the level of Rogue Trader or smaller.
Vehicles should be a possibility, naturally, and I reckon the largest "formation" of troops that would move together should essentially be at the fire-team to small infantry section level, and mostly be reserved for "team" type units, like a heavy-weapons team consisting of a loader and gunner, or vehicle crew, or less elite units like a zombie swarm, or a mob of conscripts.
As a setting, it's somewhat based on pre-Unification Terra, flavour wise but it's origin is as a failed colony, which became a penal world, then was abandoned as the galaxy-spanning empire collapsed into civil war around it.

My setting has
>no prominent sentient aliens, but many variations of weird space people
>Science from the "golden age" so advanced as to be indistinguishable from magic

Was a League and Runeterra player and I didn't have any interest in Riftbound at all because the art I saw was just lame recycles, looked soulless compared to Runeterra.

I watched that video. It's very informative on the history of the game. I personally knew everything up until the first carbonite booster release. FFG is going through the motions and printing product under the license. The minute Disney money runs out watch them chuck this entire game system into the fireplace, where so many other banger systems end up under Asmodee's expert corporate management.

How many players do your current game(s) have?

How much is too much?

What's the smallest group you've been with? What's the biggest?

For me three players is the comfiest. I've ran games for two, and there was this time the table had 12 players. It was a complete shitshow but it was fun giving the GM a headache.

3
>What's the biggest?
16. It was a fucking mess, but there aren't enough GMs in the group and everybody spams the site's email list with FULL groups.
>>
>>97179894
>How many players do your current game(s) have?
I am nogames at the moment, because I had too much stuff to do and couldn't commit to games that were offered for me to join. Maybe next year. The last game that I was in had a GM and five players.

>How much is too much?
It depends on the game system. I find that some games do best with just three players, but that others do well with a group of about four or five.

>What's the smallest group you've been with?
I have done one on ones before, and also two players plus a GM.
>What's the biggest?
The largest table I was at was the GM and seven players. But it went down to six after a while.
>>
>>97179894
>>
>1 player 1 GM
based, can do any kind of campaign, with character perfectly adapted to the setting, no compromise in fitting multiple characters to the setting.
>2 players 1 GM
Main character and sidekick. Very based.
>3 players 1 GM
The absolute peak. Enough for some interplay among the characters, but still too few players for the "spotlight" division to start to come in as an issue.
>4 players 1 GM
Still okay, more party interplay, but now you start to feel left out a bit as a player.
>5 players 1 GM
The typical "overinflated" party, you invited an extra friend or something. It's okay but clearly subpar.
>6+ players 1 GM
At this point it doesn't really matter, it still gets "worse" but less and less percentage-wise with each additional player. But 6 players is the point of no return. I'm in a group with 7 players and a GM right now, and it's fun, but definitely harder to get to actually roleplay your character.
>>
>>97193550
This advice is only for an open table sandbox west marches OSR game. But yes in that case, five might be better.

Vista edition

>Cyberpunk 2020 vs. Cyberpunk RED?
Cyberpunk 2020 is the second edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG that focuses on simulation gameplay and has a black trenchcoat aesthetic.

Cyberpunk RED is the fourth edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG that is set after Cyberpunk 2020 following the Fourth Corporate War, focuses on more balanced gameplay and is more streamlined but has less content.

You can discuss Shadowrun here too because I also feel bad for those guys.

It seems like Chicago, Hong Kong and Rio are completely fucked up by fighting, Busan has a bio-attack that kills thousands, and there are plenty of smaller engagements all over the world. CP: Red also says that they targeted shipping and logistics specifically, which is part of the reason why things are so fucked up as of the time of Red: between supply lines being fucked by the war and the data crash destroying the data of what shit was in which shipping container in which spot, no one knows where anything is anymore.

Definitely Night City got the brunt of it, but other shit was happening all over the world. I don't think it's outright stated, bit I imagine a lot of smaller corps used the chaos as an opportunity to grind various axes as well.
>>
>>97202465
I suppose? In 2077 the way Judy nonchalantly "mixed" BD's made it sound like you just had to tune the sensations correctly to make a (relatively) safe product.

I would figure abusing BDs or XBDs would have a negative effect. You're effectively flooding your brain with dopamine or other stimulating sensations, which over the long term would "fry" your brain the same way a chronic drinker or chem abuser might suffer. That's my interpretation anyway
There's also the virtu, which is explored more in 2077 where you join someone else inside a BD environment. In that case, I figure you could redo your avatar to be whatever you want. That way, even if you're a fat disgusting slob IRL, you could be cute shota or a masculine hunk of a guy in the virtu and feel that way despite being jabba the hut in meatspace. A similar concept was in Surrogates starring Bruce Willis (the movie is kinda dumb by today's standards, but it explored some interesting cyberpunk ideas)
This would also allow you (or a partner) to larp loli, woman, monster, or whatever your imagination could conceive.
>>97202803
>child abuse is still illegal in Night City.
Which I figured would be the case. As for
> fully legal BD called ''wet dream' which lets you be 'the dream or the dreamer'.
It looks kind of rapey with the cover art, but I'd need some more substantial evidence of what it entails before I say "you can buy legal rape/murder BD's as long as it's only simulated rape/murder." I'd reserve the XBD label for actual recordings of rape/murder that used 100% real rape and murder sensations for their sensation profile.
Arguably, whether BD or XBD, both could be tuned to be more or less intense for the viewer's pleasure, so I don't think any BD is going to give someone a pure translation of the original sensation that was recorded to create it.
>>
>>97203525
>as long as it's only simulated rape/murder.
Well I presume Mike and CDPR intended for us to read between the lines here, considering investors might be a little nervous about pushing the envelope that much when a video game costs as much money as it does.
They almost cut rebecca from edgerunners because they thought there'd be backlash over her character design.
>>
I'm refereeing for a group of 3 female players. All three are new to Cyberpunk but they have played D&D 5e before and are ok with trying out a new system. I have never GM'd D&D for them but I did play together with 2 of them and they are ok.
any advice with storytelling for women?

Are they genre-aware? Cyberpunk is not a lighthearted dungeon-crawling fantasy setting. This is a world where if you fuck up, you're dead fast, or worse, your body ends up in some scab chop shop or a corpo lab where you're experimented on and then discarded when you've outlived your usefulness. Particularly for the time of the RED, all of Night City just reeks of shittiness
> You start off poor, living out of a shipping container or on the street
>No one can source anything
>everyone is trying to fuck everyone else out of money
>The city is filled with hyper-violence, rape, poverty, and corruption
>practically everything you do will cost you humanity, so you have to carefully balance your calendar to allow for some "vacation days" so you don't go cyberpsycho.
It depends on the constitution of the players, but if they're normie girls who watched the anime and want some Chromeo and Juliet story, I think they may be disappointed. If they're used to more hard-fantasy stories with grim-dark elements, I think they'd be at home in the game.

If their IQ is above room temperature, they should enjoy the same stories guys enjoy (if you're a good storyteller). Other than that, I would go over their character sheet and try to implement parts of their backstory into whatever narrative you're crafting when you can. Guys like this as well, of course. It shows the DM/Ref didn't just glance at the character sheet and handwave them into the world.
