I've just made this game (based on oldhammer) to promote wargaming in my country where the hobby is almost non-existent. I've originally put it out in my native language, and now it's available in English for free.
I hope it may be of use to someone. I just wanted give back to the community.

This is what I'm loving about 3D printing
I just pull the supports off and my model is usually ready to paint
Meanwhile I spent hours snipping and then cleaning every mold line off my box of Perry Austrians
This is ignoring all the failed supports, failed prints, messy chemicals, etc of course

I like them in theory. The idea of this technocratic society ran an anicent AI that's starting to breakdown is really cool and fits into 40k well enough. Problem is they just look like little space marines right now. I think the best way to solve that would be to field more men of iron. Gives them a bit more of an identity and also more creativity for what you could do with the robots. Also since they're all weird clones of each other and their master is starting to fail they should look more deformed and weird, like the cloning system is making them imperfect

PDF users are from the TTRPG side of things. A rather vocal group that misread rules and make up scenarios that never occur in game and act like they are normal. A prime example is the guy who hijacks the Savage Worlds threads on /tg/ and claims to have run over 200 sessions of SW while using nothing but a dated edition PDF from the Internet archive and getting basic mechanical rules wrong when questioned about them. You will find no other human who shits on Savage Worlds harder and he is a prime example of how PDF users frequently shit up the hobby. The same people who call you a paypig piece of shit for buying a physical CRB.

The majority of markets in Dominion have engine potential at full-random and the ones that don't often provide completely different game play as a result which is still interesting. The head maids from what I remember in TC realistically don't do thaat much and Dominion:Empires pretty much mogs the mechanic anyway with the Landmark cards and all the different alt VP token stuff it has and that's all in a single expansion.

>>96492038
Yeah I don't really get the hype for it at all although I've never tried the expansions, neither the deck building or the actual physical race is that interesting and I find it mostly just comes down to if the board is long enough to sustain a "thin deck and then catapult self" strategy or if it's so short you just have to run to the end ASAP.
>>
>>96492118
>Expansions
If we are throwing expansions into the mix, you can definitely make Dominion into a good game.
I'm going off core box content only and every single core box of TC mogs the hell out of Dominion core box. Anytime you have to throw down $40-$100 extra to make a core product as good or slightly better than a different core product, one is clearly a superior product right out the gate.

Dominion can get ABSOLUTELY insane if you got all the content released for it and that blows everything TC has out of the fucking water, no question.
>>
>>96492048
Idk but I found the worst part of dominion by far was the downtime that came from people comboing off.
Or do you mean cards triggering off each other
>>
Hard question time anon.

Are we glorifying boardgames because bg time is never enough? Rarely anyone I have read of, even people working full time in the boardgame industry plays as often as they'd like. Is the constant scarcity the magic sauce and a lot of great games would lose its lustre when played as often as we'd like?

You don't really see people 'addicted' to playing boardgames either, that's more on the consumerism side of the hobby.

AoS has insanely dumbed down rules that make it pretty boring to do anything

Old World has just insanely cancer army comps that if you're playing with the wrong people you will have 0 fun because all they do is run cavalry and monsters instead of actual armies.
>>
>>96490104
There are dozens of better fantasy wargames. IF you have to stick with GW games due to your local scene being GW-slop only, AoS is better.
Still, you will play whatever your local community is playing anyway. Unless you are the one jump-starting the local fantasy wargaming scene, your preferences don't matter.

Trench Crusade General - /trench/
Weird love Edition

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

>How do I get started?
All the files are free online, but are split between the website and the discord. They have all been collected here for your convenience:

>>96491654
Yeah, absolutely. From my experience aside from some dedicated melee heavy hitters (which most faction can only have a small number of), ranged weapons definitely tend to be stronger than melee in TC, do you need plenty of terrain if you don't want them to dominate. Also, it looks cool and opportunity to use jumping/climbing rules is always fun

Could also continue taking prc class levels but without gaining bab, saving throws, caster levels, etc.
Tangential, but has anybody tried an alternative to these E(X) where instead of capping levels you just cap spells?
Stuff like not evolving apellcasting past 4th circle or the like.
Maybe continue gaining slots for use with metamagic but spells beyond 5th circle just aren't acessible to the players?
Something like that.
>>
>>96486820
>Could also continue taking prc class levels but without gaining bab, saving throws, caster levels, etc.
Well, it's not as straightforward since for the game to work properly you need scale anything to 6 HD. So if say you have damage scaling ability in prestige class it needs to be kept close to what it is at level 6.
>Tangential, but has anybody tried an alternative to these E(X) where instead of capping levels you just cap spells?
That's called banning full casters. It actually works perfectly fine.

Personally I used the full caster ban together with defense bonus as dodge bonus and armor as DR (including natural armor) - it was pretty nice though party had some close calls at the start due to not wrapping their head around the DR part. It's kinda hard to switch when you got accustomed to normal AC and then you find out that some monsters can get for way longer, especially if you don't manage to whack them with a two-hander.

Owlbear becomes AC 12 with DR 5/- and at the start of the game that could be pretty brutal since that basically cuts incoming damage in half. Even a great wyrm dragon is not as bad since while DR 36/- is nasty by the time you fight them you have a lot of options for dealing with it.

P.S. That Damn Crab absolutely rapes everyone with armor as DR since it gets DR 9/-
>>
>>96436181
>So, last thread, it was suggested that you should ban core for a balanced game with the exception of core feats but what about spells? Wouldn't classes like the shugenja, warmage, healer, etc. lose out a lot while psionics would remain untouched.
I hear this argument a lot in this general, and I always find if funny:
>Just ban most of the AD&D & FR themed content that is the majority of the reason you're not running the other systems you like
is just never going to be a compelling fix for me. (Though at the same time, yes I can also see full casters are overpowered in spell variety and raw spell power, even if eliminating full casters / AD&D-based magic would remove most of the reason I'm running D&D).
>>
>>96488071
>eliminating full casters / AD&D-based magic would remove most of the reason I'm running D&D
That's the rub of trying to fix 3.5, isn't it? When so much of the appeal is the labyrinths of rules and interactions built up over a decade of books and decades of discussion, if you start trying to move the foundations you end up collapsing the whole house of cards even if it's objectively better game design.
>>
>>96485927
Onto possible materials:
Vehicles as objects take 1/4 damage from cold and 1/2 from acid, fire and lightning.

For metals to consider we have copper, bronze, gold (bling), silver (DR bypass), iron, steel (hardness 12 from dragonmech), cold iron (for fighting giant fae monsters), mithral, adamantine, starmetal (to kill demonic kaijus) and aurorum (effectively self repairing steel, which would probably create small wars simply by existing).

For non-metals we have wood, bone, darkwood (light) and bronzewood (worse than iron, better than normal wood), stone(heavy). Bone and wood should also be coming in living variants for beast and plant titans, dead bone already should work perfectly fine with undead titans.

And then we have flesh, including demonic and troll ones, and undead flesh that doesn't get the damage divisors as normal, but can heal, or in case of troll and higher class demonic fast heal. Less HP than metals, lower hardness even with giant scales or fur on top. Perfect for numerous opponents since demon and troll beast titans would have ~1/3 HP of a metal mech on average. Kaiju battles ahoy!

What other materials should I consider?

The spicier the better. I'll start to get the ball rolling:

MTG, DnD and Warhammer are actually good for the hobby. They get new people started in this hobby and they keep the trend chasers contained and away from the rest of the hobby.

Appealing to the normie masses is a necessary evil in order to keep what you love afloat. Even if it comes with the negative baggage of doing so.

Generals are good for /tg/.

>3d printing will one day become the standard. And may even phase out hard plastic as the tech gets better.
Currently it's just not the case as the material is way too fucking breakable even on the most flexible or tough resins. You ship it, you'll get breakages, no matter how much you try against or how sturdy the model is. Much of the problem has to do with couriers being morons as well, of course.

The other problem is scalability. Making 10000 cast/injection plastic minis is much more affordable and scaleable than making 10000 3d printed minis, which requires much more human hands and input along that way. It's a much less automated process as every single models requires a significant amount of post processing work from print. It's why 3D printing is currently not a thing in the retail market and probably won't be until the process requires considerably less post processing steps from built plate to packaging.

I think its marketing. They've been doing a lot of aggressive marketing lately: Reddit, TikTok, YouTube, fake influencers making the game look super social. I believe that because of theis there are a lot of first time players coming, looking for that exaggerated social aspect they've seen from influencers or because of whatever UB set is their own interest. FNM where I'm at has been either packed or dead, pretty much alternating and when it's packed its usually new players trying it out, often disappointed.

TL;DR
there are more people trying magic than ever before, but it's become so thematically inconsistent and different from the portrayal made by influencers that it's probably going to die.

>2025 has to be the worst year for employment in this field so far
