Thoughts on the upcoming Starcraft wargame?
>>96490180I mean, I liked BW but it was meant to have a downer ending with Mengsk still in charge, the UED broken, Fenix and Duke dead. Artanis and Zeratul got a win at the end of the Protoss campaign, but with Kerrigan ascendant as the Bitch Queen, all they did was buy some time.It was a good hook for a sequel. But man that sequel was such a fucking mess.Tychus did nothing wrong and didn't deserve what he got.Kerrigan being the glowing golden goddess savior of everyone despite all the terrible shit she did was just the absolute zenith of bad writing. It was terrifying for a time that everyone expected Blizzard to repeat the Kerrigan bullshit with Sylvanas in WoW. It seemed they actually were but fan reaction forced them to walk it back. But then Shadowlands was easily the worst expansion WoW ever had. And when it's competing with Cataclysm, that's saying a lot. That said, I am cautiously optimistic about SCTTG. I would very much like a game that can compete with GW's strangelhold. And I say that as someone who plays 40k, Horus Heresy and Old World.
Starcraft only has 3 factions so I'm unsure how well this will go. Its probably just a beta test for a much more expansive warcraft game which could easily carry 40 factions
is this just a 40k clone? >>96491477this looks much better

>GW dropping support for school clubsThat's a fucking low blow that, probably one of the things they got right and did more of because there wasn't much of it back 20 years ago.Their games are more and more for consoomer messes in their 30s and 40s. How is any kid playing 40k with their pocket money?
>>96493774That's a fair point. Although I suppose high profile 40k video games or the supposedly approaching tv show can somewhat compensate for that by making teenagers and young adults interested in the setting via secondary media and then possibly hooking at least some of them into tabletop. Potentially. On a slightly related note though, despite all the talk about manchildren I don't think this cultural change is neccesarily a strictly bad thing. When I think about people from older generations I know (like 50+), majority of them have basically built their entire life around work and chores, to the point where when they have no work to do and no family to do small talk with they basically don't know what to do with themselves other than watching tv or sometimes reading a book. This can cause issues, especially as they retire or get less physically able and suddenly have way more free time and little habituated and acceptable ways to spend it. I think it's actually quite healthy that younger generations are taught that there is life aside from career or chores and that it's actually okay to enjoy it and have some hobbies, interests and ways to have fun whatever they might be. It's a natural result of people in western world having a bit more free time and more entertainment types and access to information available. Of course as long as they can actually find some healthy balance between their fun and being a responsible and sensible fucking adult, which I admit can be an issue for many
This thread got really racist really fast.
>>96494663Its accurate. Try loving in a culturally enriched country, its horrible. Thirdies are a different, more regressive, sub species of hominid and it shows.
>>96489507There's also the fact that there are no kids in the first place. A lot of companies across different markets will be running into the same problem over the next few years - if they haven't already started to run into it. Most developed countries have had subreplacement birth rates for decades now, so each generation has been smaller than the last. Combined with mass importing totally alien peoples (overwhelming young adults or older, ie 20/25+), this has generated three major issues for companies moving forward.>companies that traditionally target children have a (predictably) shrinking market, and by extension, less opportunity to create lifetime consumers (where applicable).>Younger generations are poorer (and predicted to remain poorer) than the generations that preceded them.>The imported adults, which form the basis for population growth, tend to have different values, tastes, and consumption habits than the native population. To put this shit simply, a lot of markets are going to shrink, and a lot of companies are going to be forced to pivot their strategies, or pray they've carved a secure enough niche for themselves that can ride out the upheaval. GW's plan seems to be to turn the hobby itself into a luxury product, while turning the wider brand(s) into multimedia staples with as much accessibility as possible (see the uptick in video game licensing in the last decade, and the Amazon deal).

On the Mecha Horror front I remember reading a bit of Dead Mech when it was fairly new, seems it got expanded into and released as full novels by the writer. The setting from what I remember was pretty simple "after the zombie apocalypse" stuff, with the addition of humanity trying to get back on it's feet by use of mechs because generally they made it pretty safe to do construction, repairs, scouting, etc. despite zombies being about. The obvious problem being if a pilot died and reanimated while still hooked up to their mech it created the eponymous Dead Mechs that were nightmares to stop.
>>96493388So there are mechs being piloted by zombified pilots that just wander aimlessly until they encounter something worth fighting?
>>96493420Not quite. This was the late 00s, so you had already had 28 Days Later and the Dawn of the Dead remake. The zombies are the fast violent predator kind rather than the slow shamblers. Now take that and fully mind link it to a 50 ton combat mech designed for fighting hordes of zombies.
>>96490836Agile mostly, maybe improved gunnery but the force is a bit tight on extra tv
>>96493982Then maybe go for the Boa. An Adder duelist would likely benefit from stacking duelist upgrades but if you're tight on TV then I'd go Boa.
Which setting has the best version of Egypt?
>>96386860>>96457161A few cool things about Ancient Egypt, specifically, in contrast to other "bronze age" states or the stereotype:- The Nile's overwhelming importance. The terrain of Egypt is not "deserts and oases," it's basically a giant line that creates a 1 dimensional country.- Until 1960, the Nile would regularly flood every single year, slowly washing away any buildings. Bad for archaeologists, but a cool and unique thing you don't see elsewhere.- Egypt was, in fact, not always politically unified, nor was it an ethnic monoculture; the Hyksos (probably Canaanite settlers) took over north Egypt, at the same time the Kushites were pushing up from the south, and probably they formed an alliance to buttfuck them- Chariots. Horses hadn't gotten big enough to ride them to war yet, is my understanding.- They quite often had pet monkeys.- They thought basically every animal was sacred to some god or another. While the Greeks no doubt exaggerated this in some of their accounts, it was a real tendency. Crocodile cults were more common in rural Egypt, though they were found mummified in Thebes and the city the Greeks called Crocodilopolis.

The spicier the better. I'll start to get the ball rolling: MTG, DnD and Warhammer are actually good for the hobby. They get new people started in this hobby and they keep the trend chasers contained and away from the rest of the hobby.Appealing to the normie masses is a necessary evil in order to keep what you love afloat.
