I don't really dislike primaris other than the phobos units being too tacticool. But I do feel like they should keep 40K as it is with mirrored terrain etc as a containment game for competitive autists but do a Warhammer for Adults variant where you get 30-50 guys, 1-2 tanks, and 1 commander. And fill that mode up with random event tables, NPC aliens/monsters, complicated scenarios, and other stuff the competitive dorks will hate.

Which game is currently in a worse state?
40k is far worse even though I absolutely hate magic right now. My thoughts are based on the effort. Current 10th edition 40k is exhausting and I'm having to up date my current armies to the new unit changes. The terrain sucks, the feel sucks, everything doesnt feel "correct". Easily 3+ hours for a game in the middle of the week after work is exhausting. In MTG I can play a few games for fun with friends and not really commit. We burned on on EDH so right now we're playing with our old sets of Innistrad decks from college. Both games are still fun - but a commitment to magic is easier, cheaper, and you're not "chasing the feels" to stay locked into the 40k hobby. The best approach is always to take it as a beer and pretzels casual fun game you play with your friends. We play games to have fun and have a good time. Don't follow the dark path of competitive play in either game.
>>96492582This. The best option is to just not participate, no matter what your political views are
>>96492570All woke goes broke eventually. Give it time.
>>96492605No anon, you must play competitively. 40k is no longer your casual hobby.
>>96492622You have no power here L Ruin! Begone Club-Shirt-Wearing-Tournament-Player! Back I say!Like I said, both games are fine if you tune down the competitive side and just goofy off. I used to play Warmachine / Warmahordes in MK2 and MK3 and the game wasn't fun after a point due to how cutthroat it was. The terrain there was even worse! My group all has wives, I dont have kids yet so I'll host and have some friends over to game on my tables and shoot the shit. It's a lot of fun. I'm also becoming far more anti social since I'm not going to the FLGS or showing up at events. Conventions are still great, I highly recommend. Just don't go to Adepticon only for the tournaments. Remember the hobby is mostly sitting in a room painting.

What do people typically do for demo games? 3v3 line troops? Do you do a follow-up game where you include a model with special rules? Do you leave out extra rules like fireteams and lieutenants? Need to get a scene kickstarted in my area so I’ve gotta work out how to do this

Is it possible for warp storms/rifts to be localized to a single region on a planet? I'm trying to create a planet where the people live on nomadic city crawlers and have to periodically relocate to avoid destructive storms.
>>96492578Warp storms in the physical world tend to make a place pretty much completely unlivable. Rifts tend to have things kicking down the door to ask where the white women are.Maybe instead regular storms that are too dangerous for these giant cities, even with void shields? Rockstorms? If you're absolutely hellbent on physical warp stuff, I guess a storm could. One single cloud that loops around the planet according to some insane schedule and sucks up anything that isn't a native part of the world. It's the warp, it does what it wants.
>>96492607Honestly regular storms that are highly destructive is just fine too. Thanks.

It is done. Behold. That about wraps up my contributions. It has been a pleasure working with the gentlemen here to create something unique and intriguing. I hope that this project continues, and may, some day, become reality. I'll be around to playtest, but unless called upon, others should have the opportunity to present their own ideas, and express their own creativity. For those who initially recommended that I read the novel aloud for the records, my little tribute at the end should demonstrate why that might not have been the best idea. There is a certain monotony in my delivery. https://youtu.be/3iywSoYfOLYAlso, here is a better link for the entire playlist, so whoever is inclined to bake the future threads might just want to embed this instead. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwfxQxrHe4M&list=PLKLbVXLsxBBw1EHR-81wTYMJkWKKiQFfH

>>96488402I feel rather compelled to order some Perry Bros Prussians at some point in honor of this.
>>96491409Well now you've gone and spoiled what my follow up would have been. I liked the Perry stuff, but availability seems limited in the U.S. To assemble the physical army I had planned, Wargames Atlantic makes early WWI Germans that are quite a good value. Just keep it to the Pickelhaubes and use the stahlhelms for Sturmtruppen. They've got Maxim MGs as well. A mech is currently on my 3D printer at the moment. God only knows when I'll have time to paint.
Back when I lived in Tennessee I remember seeing ads for this every now an then, was it actually any good?
It was good and had a cool theme, but it was a nightmare to collect. Wizkids later did Rocketman that was somewhat similar (Same plastic cards, etc) and even if the theme and art was shit at least they made it better to build for it as there was cards with lots of generic crew for that game (Pirates also did it in the later editions but they weren't nation specific, they were "lost crew")On a game design stand of view it was really good, there are lots of cool things like the giant crabs (titans) that you could have a crew piloting it... Or forts that you could build in wild islands by paying gold. Or fortillas, or Mysterious Islands, etc
My wife and I have two shoeboxes where we keep our assembled ships, though some are worse for wear. It was a relatively simple wargame that we probably played wrong, but we had fun with it, and liked the little boats enough to hold onto them over 20 years. Really liked my Spanish fleet.I recall Rocketmen like the other anon mentioned, and I think there was a Star Wars game that had a similar "pop out and build" element, but worked by very different rules. I only ever had like one or two boosters for either of those, and nothing I particularly liked.
>>96486399I loved this when i was a kid it was awesome
>>96490616>and liked the little boats enough to hold onto them over 20 yearsI still got a few hovering around, too. Turns out that the market for 10-part model ships is criminally under-served.
>>96486399I remember having fun with chaotic multiplayer games. It also helped to just houserule that every ship had a captain for free(let you move and shoot in the same turn). Donated all mine to a thrift store when the Konmari thing got big. I wonder if anyone's made a similar ruleset for a miniatures/board game.

10,000 years isn't enough time for humans to naturally evolve into anthro cats or goats. Maybe the 40k writers are just dumb?
>>96492635But anon, there are humans living among us that predate all human history. An annoying floating eye once told me that he met some of us that long ago. There's no way the crazy robot could be wrong. It didn't even express shock that a human being naturally lives that long.
