Fair enough, if we're approaching it solely by mechanics then a good deal* of co-op games don't change all that much mechanically.
I'd argue that a great deal of competitive games don't change all that much between different player counts either. The dynamics change, sure, (as they do in co-op games that balance for higher player counts for that matter) but mechanically you're doing the same thing on your turn.

*Of course this excludes the numerous co-op games that have limited information like Hanabi, Sky Team, and The Crew to name a few.

I bought a couple of 3D printed retro Land Raiders and that gave me the idea of playing Rogue Trader. I've already played it a few times over the years, but I'd like to get more into it. I own the main rulebook, the Compendium and the Battle Manual (I bought them years ago).

Any anons here play RT in 2025? What's your view on the supplementary material, do you think it adds to the game? The way I see, there are like three versions of the game, right?

Is this a fair assessment?

The basic vanilla system is not very difficult to run, but it gets unwieldy fast once you start adding White Dwarf stuff. Army lists, vehicle and battle manuals, yay or nay? I don't own beakies, but I've got enough middlehammer Eldar and Space Marines to play pretty big games using the White Dwarf army lists, the two Land Raiders alone are like 1500 points according to the Compendium.

So basically, what's the best way to enjoy the game nowadays?

It depends heavily on how you transmit those issues.
I sometimes have explanations for stuff that I won't include until needed because who cares, like how androids work to justify not having to constantly recharge them or relationships between competing factions that aren't active for that particular game. Having someone ask me helps me check if it makes sense and is fun enough to prompt new ideas, but I won't bore people with pointless data.
But if you interrupt something like a room description to question meaningless shit I'll ask you to shut up for a minute.

I want to get into pathfinder 2eR, and I really like playing wizards, but Vancian casting perplexes me to no end. Is there some sort of strategy guide? Like... How many fireballs am I supposed to prepare? Combat can come at literally any moment - how am I supposed to be prepared for the hundreds of spontaneous 'roll initiative''s?

Am I just supposed to load the fuck up on panic spells and fireballs and use spell substitution to cast everything as a pseudo-ritual when needed? How the hell am I supposed to account for this shit without having 9 mega lethals in the chamber just so I'm not the most useless babyboy in the world during any surprise combat? How do I go back in time and kill Jack Vance to stop Gary Gygax from reading Dying Earth and copying the stupidest magic system available?

In the case of Pathfinder 2E, you will want to get your hands on scrolls, wands, and staves. These items are to wizards as +1 swords are to fighters - they are essential. If you take Magical Crafting you can craft these yourself during downtime (especially useful for scrolls because you can make them in batches of 4). Your int is already high, so crafting is a sensible skill choice. Scrolls, wands, and staves allow you to be prepared for a wider variety of situations and cast more spells in a day. And don't forget that your cantrips are automatically heightened, meaning they are a valid baseline option at all times. Lightning Arc is a popular choice in PF2e, but all damaging cantrips are viable.

As others have said in this thread, part of the fun with playing a wizard is planning ahead and trying to predict what tools you will need in the near future. You might also consider spending downtime with your party to gather information about a group or location before trying to tackle it. Playing a wizard well is supposed to make you feel smart, lean into that fantasy and have fun.

You could somewhere temperate, which isn't the case for me. Oklahoma has roulette weather, so we play inside where the sky won't kill us and the wind won't blow away minis, tokens, terrain, or books. The sun can be hateful here, as can the bugs. Currently there are crickets and bagworm catapillers everywhere.
Secondly, if it's nice outside there's other priorities. I'm partial to Pétanque or Skeet/target shooting if it's pleasant out.
Tl;dr: not everywhere can be France or Italy.

At that point why are you taking investigator and not rolling a fighter with Investigator archetype though?

Though I guess that is true for any investigator build. Come from another class, pilfer the 2-3 things you want/need and then avoid the bizarro chassis unless you are playing in some murder mystery campaign in which case your DM will silently have you killed for "That's Odd" usage.
