>TMNT causing longtime players to hate Magic>not the Walking Dead>not Doctor Who>not Furbies>but TMNT, a well loved nostalgia classicWhy?
>>96734353This isn't bad because he's black, it's bad because it's boring. The aesthetic also doesn't scream Tolkien to me, but that's because we're all, to a degree, Peter Jackson brained.
>>96733429Content creators went insane over Spooder Man and made all the no games players think they are in good company. Most of the e-celebs who cried about spider man don't care about them. It's just retards on twitter and bluesky trying to earn 4chan good boy points by repeating a meme they don't even understand.I also highly doubt most of the types constantly crying have played a game of magic in years.
>>96734866Him being black IS bad. LOTR is supposed to be the founding myth of England. So what the fuck would a nog be doing in anything having to do with it?
>>96733429>>but TMNT, a well loved nostalgia classicThe other three listed were small release for specific formats. TMNT is a main set release that you're expected to engage with in every format now. I have mild nostalgia for it, but no desire to pay markups just so I can draft with my friends. A lot of the hate for these would go away if they were priced the same as every other MTG set.
>>96733429It's because it's not just a commander slop secret lair, it's going to be a full mainline standard set. BIG difference
Do you think that class-based RPGs should try to accommodate the "generic wizard who does generic magical things" class concept, or do you think it is too generic an idea, and that the game should force the player to narrow it down?Putting aside the very obvious example of D&D 5(.5)e and its wizard class, D&D 4e, Pathfinder 2e, and 13th Age 2e all have a wizard that specializes in a mix of raw damage blasting and hard-control debuffs (with the occasional buff). Daggerheart likewise has a wizard class. An indie title, level2janitor's Tactiquest, has the Arcanist as a catch-all magical caster with a broad repertoire of spells suitable for different occasions.Other games have a different approach. Draw Steel has the elementalist, focused on the physicality of elemental magic; and the talent, a psionicist who specializes in more intangible effects like time manipulation and telepathy. Tom Abbadon's ICON has no "generic wizard who does generic magical things" in its noncombat classes or its combat classes, specifically to force the player to narrow the concept down, whether for noncombat functions or for tactical combat role.
>>96735104No you don't. All you have to do is choose the options that suit your character concept. A system doesn't have to have any dysfunctional trap options. Not every game is D&D. Some actually have competent designers.
>>96735107>All you have to do is choose the options that suit your character conceptAnd when they are naked fungibility, that requires weighing up what is more and less suitable and how deeply you wish to invest in each. You seem to be completely unaware of the very freedom of options you insist upon entailing a cognitive load of actually shaping them so they're mostly decent and settling on something from among them.>A system doesn't have to have any dysfunctional trap options. There are 2,432,902,008,176,640,000 permutations for just 20 fungible choices (though AIUI this is technically most applicable to character progression). A single one of those choices being irrelevant for a campaign results in 95% of them spending something for nothing. It is simply not mathematically feasible to avoid without a ludicrous amount of effort crunching numbers to dial in a flat-enough plain of outputs.
>>96735165So have you ever even played a classless game? According to your argument, it should be impossible to make a character.
>>96735167I'm not saying that it's impossible to make a character, I'm saying that at the blunter end it's vanishingly unlikely to make a meaningfully above mostly-random crapshoot fulfillment of the priorities on the player's end and to design those issues away by any reliable procedure involves upwards of a decade in university level mathematics between the design team demanding expensive computation equipment to actually use.It "feels" better because the system does not get in the way, something far more naturally fulfilled by ruleslight homebrew than GURPS. But if you want the system to carry the weight of structuring sessions and events so you don't have to offload critical fine-tuning on the end users with no assurance of any grasp on this and thus a significant risk of them being turned away because they fucked it up, the immensity of the combinatorics must be tackled with a hard solution that could genuinely involve goddamn AI companies.
>>96735250Why do you think making a character is a random crapshoot? Or that it's difficult at all? Have you tried?
Itt we help each other find a system that fits given setting.I'm looking for something fitting Blue Archive lore. Expectation:>combat-focused>handles gunfights well>has cover system>hitzones unwelcome>crits should do extra damage, but no additional effects>can handle vehicles, combat robots, artillery>can handle big bosses>allows for some gun autism>no magicOne guy suggestes using Cyberpunk 2020, but I think it's a bad idea.
>>96722383Aberrant is neither tied to the WoD nor particularly low-powered; individual characters can be, but the game scales. Aberrant also takes place in the near future.Having looked into the setting, I would use something flexible, like OVA, Prowlers & Paragons, or Mythic d6. Based on the gameplay I watched, I think something like Fabula Ultima might work.BTW, someone looking for low-powered supers should check out Dark Times or Watchdogs of Killcade>>96664055I agree with B&B. Shoot & Loot should also work. Both games create random weapons and have cover systems. B&B is crunchier, S&L is based loosely on PbtA but isn't as structured, so it plays faster.p0jk0
>>96721100That's annoying, how long are they going to keep it like that?
>>96728179Probably forever, since it's less work than actually fixing the problem.
>>96728650Of course. What exactly 'happened', BTW? I never looked into the details.
Could we please get a summary update on requests that didn't get a satisfactory response? I would love to help some people find a game to help them play in their favorite IP.

Exalted question: Lunars should be able to use any biological-based abilities of a form they take, right? Say Kryptonians/Viltrumites/Ben 10 Aliens/Marvel mutants.
>>96735164this may be a stupid question but file it under I genuinely don't know. In order to gain a form don't Lunars have to consume the heart of the creature in question? I don't know if this is true or not.
>>96735182By default, they have to slay a creature and drink its “Heart’s blood” at the end of a ritualistic hunt. There are Knacks and Charms they can learn to modify these requirements. Off the top of my head, I know there’s one that lets you temporarily take the form of a creature just by tasting any of its blood. And another one that lets you gain a form by having sex with the person.
>>96735218>And another one that lets you gain a form by having sex with the person.Nani?!?! I thought they turned in to animals mostly.

>>96734763For the PCs. Moths being drawn to lights is reflective of the game having a hopeful bent to it. Moths themselves undergo metamorphosis from a caterpillar which is similarly true of the Accused's metamorphosis via their Damnaition. Accursed are also disruptive by nature and the wider metaphor of curses are that they're connected in a tangled web of threads. Much like how a moth will gnaw through fabrics, the Accursed break those connections. As for that idea I'm glad that's not where they're going. Not everything needs to be dialled up to 11.I don't think anyone is benefitted by writers smashing you over the head with a metaphor non-stop. Especially when it's just for a logo.

>>96730551Oh, I strongly prefer success-based dice pool, namely the Year Zero Engine one with my homebrew. It works like Genesys, even better. BUT it has like twice as less design space due to low numbers. When you want a game with constant level ups, adding +1 to one or the other stat, or item upgrading like in video game with +1s, when you additionally use d4-d12 to represent different equipment, it is better when your system is based around d20. As for swingy binary outcomes, you can rule that the check failure is partial success and make 2-3 rolls for resolution of non-combat checks.
>>96699230Working on a system/world where the players are robots. All his bodyparts and programs are under the line the class and levels normal RPG have.I put in some megacity in roman build style and some mytic psionic in and hope i have a system that play quick even against more then 5 enemys. All based on D6 plus whatever bonus you can get. What to fire/hit something? 1D6+your sensors vs the targets cloak to hit. then damage vs armor and if the structure points of your body reach zero your body parts can and will fly off a brocken junk. But all the same for the enemy.Hacking goes with dice in pair, want to hack a CCTV? get a bigger pair together then your enemy. If there is a firewall it get harder and if you have more time (aktions) or a program it becomes easyer.Rule of cool is the major idea.example: the caterpillar tracks are "legs" but how would a organic version of this look like? easy: could be a snake or snail body.Speaking of robot parts: There are currently 6 overarching types of robots (and there bodyparts) to mix and match.Android: human shaped robotpartsMecha: Bulky armord partDrone: light weight skinny/bony partsChimera: the biohorror and mutant part of my system. >>96730551I just don't like rolling a ton of dice. Its just a hassle and slows down the game.
>>96729989Ok, I see your point here, and let me verify if I understand correctly. If I put the faction bonuses on a separate layer, they become harder to balance vis a vis the purchase of parts. Basically by making faction bonuses purchasable I establish a baseline against which weaker and stronger parts can be measured. I want to follow up to this question and ask: what would happen if instead I made it so that respecting restrictions gives you more or less "special faction points" that you can spend for faction bonuses? This way even if you respect the restrictions you don't get an overwhelming advantage vs. an opponent that is using parts from multiple manufactures. Also the game is currently being played in person and I can promise you, you are not interested in checking it out. It is very much still shit.
critique my d6 combat system please and thank you.you add up two out of five attributes, depending on what weapon youre using.ex. strength and agility.that number determines what target number you need to hit.you then select a number of dice from a pool that you want to use for attack.successes are counted as hits.damage is calculated as the damage of the weapon + the two used attributes and subtract from that the targets armor.this would basically be the baseline for melee combat, without any other modifiers.is there potential or do i need to start over?
I’ve been using the Greek and/or Norse gods in my own campaign settings, but I want to start making my own deities and pantheons going forward, if you have any advice, I’d love to hear it please.
