Has anyone actually played this shit? All I ever see is people saying that it looks good, but nobody ever says whether or not it actually is good. Have any of you ever you ever run a campaign with it?

I removed shield mother, and replaced it with Lawbringer.

I've also cut out some of the extra, less tonally 'appropriate' subclasses to cut down on bloat.

Still need to add the Craving roll table and/or boons&banes in. If anyone has any more ideas for those, that'd be sick.

Might do a little more flavour text editing tonight as well, but fingers are utterly fucked from MMA.

I'm dubious atm about writing whole new rules, though I do very much like the idea of 'the really big, eldritch-empowered lady is just using herself like a battering ram'.
Any ideas on what subclasses or veteran classes could/should be repurposed? I've noted them down in the legend.

Probably not going to happen, unless your players already have a preg fetish. Maiesta is kind of a hard sell for most people. With Nechronica you can at least lean into the horror aspect and a unique damage system where you lose body parts instead of HP, instead of focusing on all the PCs being zombie lolis, but aside from being one of the few games that make a summoner type class work, Maiesta doesn't really have much appeal outside of being the pregnancy RPG. Your best bet is probably try finding players on the official discord.

https://digimoncard.com/digimon_liberator/en/character/
If you click onto the Digimon on each of these it'll show their line as it appears in Liberator. You can click on any of their icons to go to their reference book entry.

They're not all new, Vemmon's is entirely pre-existing (but was only added to the reference book because of Liberator), some only have 1-3 new Digimon. Some like Maquinamon are yet to appear in the game still.
>>
Let's say that, hypothetically, I was retarded and refused to play the floodgate rookies in a deck with Dark Animal as a base. What other rookies would I play, besides Goblimon?
>>
>>96771298
What's the top end? Goblimon works great no matter what. Labramon as a 1-2 of to recycle anubismon can be helpful. Floodgates are good in the dark animal engine because it's easy to reuse them
>>
>>96771330
Perhaps it is Leviamon, among other things that aren't nearly as good.
>>
>>96770555
Vemmon isn't the only line to be entirely preexisting Digimon, there's also Omekamon/Omnimon X.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to TSR-era D&D, derived systems, and compatible content.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons as played in the game's first decade — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching meta-plots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started.

This new combined chess championship seems interesting, though I fear that it might start supplanting the actual championship. The idea does stoke a (quite unrealistic) idea I've had for some time: a tournament where several chess-like games (either variants or even other nation's traditional versions, like shogi). Obviously the logistics of this would be nightmarish, and probably involve picking and counterpicking different games in a match (which would require players to play sets rather than single games all the time).

I'll have to look that up sometime. I arrived to /slop/ at the start of 2024, so I'd have missed that thread.

For those desperate for players or those desperate enough to join a game post your TTRPGs. If you're looking for players, give a brief description of your game and/or edition as well as your setting, how many players you're looking for, your time zone, the days you play, and whether you use Roll20 or any other website. Finally, post a way for them to contact you and give an update when you're no longer looking for players.

It is up to the GM's discretion to interview and choose what people they let in or not so don't be surprised and start going off about

>" oh an anon here was a whinny little faggot"

or

>" oh anon was a sperg "

it is up to YOU to interview and talk to them you get the last say and who enters your game group either you'll actually find some worthwhile people here or the thread will just be archived

>it's not requiring a logistical benefit slot or an entire detachment
FOC juggling is the biggest sin of this edition
>>
>>96771630
And it pays for it. You are paying, for example, 105 points for a predator with a volkite macro-saker and 2 HBs, and 195 for a deredeo with a volkite falconet, 2 HBs, and 1 s5 small blast (2 if stationary). And you are also paying for an entire command slot to give you a war engine.

I didn't say a deredeo couldn't accomplish things. I said its not worth the price you pay to do it.
>>
>>96771692
And hell, let's be generous and give the predator another 5 points for a havoc launcher so it also throws out a s5 blast but this one is stunning
>>
>>96771637
Honestly I thought it was going to be so much harder then it is. My squat army from 1.0 is back up an running with minimal purchases at 2K with 3 aux and one prime slot.
>>
>>96771630
>invuln save

Against a lascannon a deredeo is wounded on a 2+. A predator takes wounds on a 4+. So AV13 is more protective than T7 2+/5++ save versus the most common AT weapon. The deredeo is better protected vs something like a krak missile or other high strength low AP weapons.

Thoughts on running a dark academia game? What is your take on this aesthetic? Advice?

I'm thinking of runing something about ecret fraternities somewhere in Oxbridge, murder mysteries, and perhaps some occult or paranomral phenomena

>>96760459
It definitely is. A CoC game isn't meant to be fighting otherworldly terrors all the time, it's about foiling cults of 90% man 10% fishman. You just grab the scary mythos creatures, the minor ones like Yithians, Mi-go, or Hounds of Tindalos to be whatever you want or you can make mundane creatures into other things, turn wolves into chupacabras or whatever.

>>96738706
But this thread is (allegedly) about running a "Dark Academia" game, & FPBP is right, just use CoC. You already know you want low stakes, it's up to the GM to keep them low, make guns rare, make only low damage weapons available. I don't know much about Gumshoe so I won't comment, but CoC is purpose built for playing professors or students investigating weird cults.

Overall though you said you want to run a game & I respect that you're trying to run something instead of begging for a game to play. So what I think you should do is really make what the students are studying important to the adventure. The killer wrote a note in Latin or Ancient Greek as a clue, or used a certain poison or method of killing the target only a biology student would know. It helps reinforce the setting, it makes the players feel extra special & useful because no one else in the party has that knowledge & it can help them narrow down the killer even if they don't get the clue, because now they have a rough guess of where the killer could be found searching through the university's departments or enrolled students.
>>
>>96738706
What the fuck is dark academia? You study for exams but also your teacher is a vampire or some shit? Your car broke down and you have to walk to class, but it broke down because of a wizard? What is the difference between this and normal school?

Not him, but your campaign sounds fucking rad. Glad you had fun. :)

I'll also throw my hat in the ring and mention Jong Henry Morgan, aka "The Thunderbolt of the South." He led a light cavalry regiment with a (very) light infantry detachment into Union territory, conducting lightning raids on outposts and supply lines. He made the furthest excursion into the North of any Confederate general, and nobody knows how the fuck his cav moved so quickly through heavy forests, or how his infantry kept up with his cav. Eventually, the Union was so terrified of the guy that instead of simply raiding his camp at night (once they found it), they sent men in stolen Greys, slit his throat as he slept, and took his command staff hostage as their company surrounded the area. Done dirty like Alexander, the fucking legend.

>Encouraging people to throw more dice and make the game more rocket taggy is good because... Why?
Because munchkins running around with 8 STR, 8 ADR and bardiches is bad, and forcing them to gamble more for decisive strikes or set things up is good. It encourages set ups like hook and trip because you can't just pull level 4 wounds on a single BS.

>Well anon, in the base game, yes. But with those changes, no. The best weapon for joint thrust becomes the Rondel Dagger, which does okay damage.
If you're using the revised rules, then you're reading it wrong. Because the Estoc and even regular spears are fine. The maneuver exactly specifies that you do it at reach S (or weapon reach if it's shorter). Which overrides the longer weapon reach, and it has the same activation cost rules as vanilla (IE, +1 per step over M). As the maneuver is written in revised, using an estoc even without halfswording is only a 5 activation cost to aim for a weakpoint from it's natural reach. Since the maneuver declares S reach. The rondel is only slightly better because you can use a TN 6 thrust to get into S while only worrying about regular reach costs. This only gets worse if you're targeting a location without a weakpoint (like an uncovered face or neck) because that reduces the activation cost to literally free with M weapons or shorter. If anything it obsoletes things like butt strike because it's an S reach maneuver.

>So it's... Joint thrust but you can't rely on it anymore?
Sure. This is a good thing. Joint thrust being reliable makes armor significantly worse than it should be when you can rely on it hitting the face.
>>
>>96771177
>I mean, the better method is to just stick with TOU and let SDB be higher, so people aren't afraid of dying from papercuts.
No, it's not. TOU and high SDB just leads to the worst form of the game of people minmaxing what kind of armor they can beat with their chosen weapon and creating enormous disparities between weapons that are haves and have nots. See: Bardiche, DAxe, Iron Club vs small knife, two handed katzbalger, bar mace. You have next to zero reason to feel threatened by a small knife if toughness exists at all. Never mind if you add a single additional point of toughness or AV to the equation. SoS needs less damage, hell you were even saying plate was the only real valid armor option even back in the final published version; because a few weapons can treat it as if it's not there.
>>
>>96771112
>The stun I suffered isn't actually comparable here, as you had to spend dice to deal it.
You also had to spend dice to avoid it, otherwise you'd be suffering a hell of a lot more than just 1 stun. If I hit at all, we broke even and still have initiative.

>And if you mean when comparing them to just trying to deal damage, you've basically offered zero rebuttal to what was proven, that they are objectively inferior to doing damage.
IF you can deal damage. Then yes, I can concede that if you're 100% guaranteed to deal damage on any hit at all then it is superior to deal damage. But unless you're hyper optimized or in a tournament setting where you can always lug around a two-handed meta weapon with you at all times, it's not a guarantee. If your 1-2 BS damage isn't enough to wound however then you're doing literally nothing. At least a 1 BS, failed tripping hook attempt results in the opponent losing a single die.
>>
>>96771177
>Because munchkins running around with 8 STR, 8 ADR and bardiches is bad
And making them even better is good... Because...?

>It encourages set ups like hook and trip because you can't just pull level 4 wounds on a single BS.
No, actually. It encourages you to go much more for pure damage because those options still suck.

>If you're using the revised rules, then you're reading it wrong.
I don't think I am, no.
>Because the Estoc and even regular spears are fine.
No, they are not.
With a regular spear, you suffer from an AC of +3, plus another +4 from Reach, THEN +2 from Joint Thrust, for +11 cost in total. That's quite a massive cost, and in Revised? Unusable.
With an Estoc, you need to Half-sword it, or you're at +1, +2, and +5 total, which is also far too much to stomach.

If you somehow find yourself losing when the opponent gives you a massive advantage, sorry, you have a skill issue.

See, stun from Hook, Disarm, and other things sucks because it's derived from BS. This isn't so great because you will need to spend more dice to get more stun off, which defeats the purpose.
The only exception is during low dice exchanges, like if you rolled a disarm with 1 dice and I Swing at you for 1. If you succeed, my swing is stopped instantly because the stun eats its die.
Though notice, due to the Activation Cost disarm has to pay, you're still losing out, even then. And if I really wanted to screw you, I would just declare a kick to your groin for as many dice as needed, because you can't disarm feet.

>IF you can deal damage.
And why wouldn't I?

>Then yes, I can concede that if you're 100% guaranteed to deal damage on any hit at all then it is superior to deal damage.
Actually, it's superior if you're guaranteed to deal a wound even starting at 2 BS. The only time it becomes less optimal to go for damaging attacks is if your odds of causing a wound fall into the <20% range.

>But unless you're hyper optimized or in a tournament setting where you can always lug around a two-handed meta weapon with you at all times, it's not a guarantee.
Sure it is. It's more guaranteed in your system than ever before, since you have effectively given everyone -3 AV. Now, not only am I almost always in a position to cause wounds on 1 BS, it's even easier and more sensible to make sure my fighting man can do so.

It was going to be a character originally from one of the dragonblooded families too. So I needed a reason for why they were kind of a weirdo compared to others of their family and other details.

I never got to play in the game, though. After the ST had a meltdown at me about my character, I decided to go for a lunar exalted as something much easier to bs a backstory for. Which everyone was ALL FOR. No weird questions. No being yelled at. Easy to vet with the ST. When I started asking for tips on how to build one properly, they got super weird and banned me from the game.

I didn't play any tabletop games for a long time after that.

I'll even try to find a songs to fit the general vibe of the character I'm going for. It helps narrow things down as I'm work-shopping the character.
They only time I went overboard on a character's backstory I never showed it to the DM because I wasn't going to show him a four page backstory that mostly went over one moment of my character's life and wasn't relevant to the campaign.
If I'm handing something to the GM, I'll make sure it sticks to 1 paragraph at a maximum and/or just a list of bullet points of things that are important or that the GM can use a hooks.

It's sad when a bad group turns people away from the hobby completely. Sorry you had to go through that. Did you ever find a good Exalted group to play with?

This general encompasses all board game genres - Eurogames, Ameritrash, Ameritreasure, Fillers, Party, Abstracts, Wargames, and especially the game that one anon is autistic about at this very moment.

TQs:
- What are your favorite dice games?
- What do you think about "luck" in games?
- What are some underrated gems (in any genre)?

Bonus:
- Post your favorite die.

Seems unlikely, the only time I go to Missouri is to collect change from the gumball machines I own there

There's a second coinfag in this general? I thought I was the only one. I just use generic aftermarket metal coins my local game store carries.

Yeah, but I'm not dumping actual silver into a board game box. Too much money involved, I'd rather keep it safe and hidden away.

coins? old and busted
chips? played out
plaques? too nouveau
I'm going to make a set of board gaming taels.

What genre is not well represented? What kind of activities in session just don't have a good rules set? What kind of game would excite you that you think isn't available?

Still, half of the rules should be about being sneaky and if they are successful it'll be anticlimactic.

I've run Spycraft and other infiltration-centric campaigns and it's really not a problem in the way you're describing. Stealth is fun when the party's plan goes off without a hitch, AND when your players end up in rolling gunfights with the Connecticut state police

the problem with Spycraft is that prep was absurdly involved, both for the GM and the players

>the problem with Spycraft is that prep was absurdly involved, both for the GM and the players
I'd imagine that in actual play would be multiple sessions of planning and recon and one session of actual mission.
