Am I supposed to learn how to play every deck to get good at this game?

competitive is fun in games where you don't have to buy in. I really enjoyed legends of runeterra as someone who had like 20 EDH decks before atraxa was in print, had the blue double breaker for american duel masters, raigeki and mirrorforce and xyz dragon i think i left ygo by set 5 or 6. I liked emulation programs like cockatrice , whatever the early 00s ygo duel simulator was. Competitive games are janky BS when you have to buy in. 150 dollars for a gemini elf at frank and sons. Compete at capitalism rather than the card game.

I don't think i would want to be playing digimon in person because this game is so ruthless.

why do you want a truly competitive card game experience? When these games were new this was novel- now we have seen many large scale e-sports. starcraft and magic were early outliers. CS picked up steam. then we had melee and halo. Now we are post league of legends. People have moved away from that esports mindset and largely prefer the older formats in ygo and commander in mtg. People want every archetype to feel finely tuned and to be able to play what they want. People want complexity and fairness. Thats what true competition is, not spamming metaslop and going 8 and 1. 40k is an interesting game to look at, they are probably the main community that truly wants competition. Even then they are largely held back by budget and build/paint time.
>>
>>97826721
>why do you want a truly competitive card game experience?
Because I enjoy it! I enjoy improving my sequencing and learning to pilot a deck. I enjoy learning counterplay to different decks, the correct plays to make, I enjoy going into game 2 having a clearer idea of what to do.
>People want every archetype to feel finely tuned and to be able to play what they want
And they're wrong. Wanting "every archetype to be good" is like playing LOL and expecting every champion to be viable. It's a ridiculous thing to want and makes no sense, and dev teams trying to pursue that goal has actually killed games. Some archetypes are training wheels. Some archetypes are high skill, and for them to be high skill they have to be better, they need to have a higher ceiling (otherwise they aren't high skill). Some archetypes are more suited for fighting others. In MtG, you will die if you try and bring a mill deck to face off against a dredge deck, because the very concepts of these decks make that happen.
>People want complexity and fairness. Thats what true competition is, not spamming metaslop and going 8 and 1
It sounds like you don't understand what a competitive environment is.
>>
>>97815302
Pretty much this. If you don't know how to play every meta deck then you won't know how to counter every meta deck. It's like Fighting Games or the Art of War or some shit.

nigger i am from melee . Card games are a shit genre for competition, even more so tcg/ccgs . From my perspective you are trying to make kitchen table games retarded - complexity and balance are not a zero sum equation against competitiveness.

Making a thread about scary Yugoloths and why every party should fear them. 100% success rate at taking down PCs and their stupid adventure-ling parties. First off, they'll break all your dumb magic weapons *during combat*. That 15th party of gishes and tanks last about 3 rounds once all their magic is deprived of them.
*499 more reasons to follow not fucking around with Yugoloths coming up*

Look at this beast. It's absolutely 100% a threat on the battlefield. This absolute unit wreaks havoc in combat.

They also secretly direct the Blood War and since it's such a threat, by proxy nearly the entire multiverse too.

I like that, I have a semblance of a setting with all of 1 drawing where flying mobile suits almost completely replace infantry and most other ground vehicles in high speed high tempo combat, but smaller nations and colonies make do with foot infantry and small mecha.

I know that it's all about using cool minis, Militia more so. I'm just curious about what they can do best above others.
I suppose they have presence? Lots of targets, though I'm not sure if they got the DPS to back that up. As in, cool artillery and numerous tanks, but they're no Solar Auxilia.
Utilitarian infantry, but allergic to actual Rout.

So, I've deliberately included things that happen at tables which- when corrected for- actually produce roleplaying.

Here's the mistakes (and how to roleplay instead)
>Player: "I'm going to cast a cure wounds spell, I think. DM can I cast and move second?"
The mistake is that the player should know these rules. If they don't they learn them. Failing to learn the rules is not considerate of the time of the GM and other people at the table. Instead of naming what they do, they should describe what they do, roll the dice (I, as the GM should be able to trust you to know your rules and not cheat... this is called high trust tables). "My hands glow blue with the holy energy of my god, shooting energy out to Anazar (Eric's character) to heal 9 points".

>"Who has the fewest hitpoints?"
This isn't something that a character would know. If you are trying to find who is most injured structure it in a way your character would learn this information, "I scan the battlefield for my allies to see who is most haggard" "GM: You see that Anazar is particularly wounded"

>"Okay eric, I'm going to cast on..."
Needless mechanical description. Describe what the other players see and feel. The only relevant mechanical detail you need is the 9 hitpoints.

>"Cool, thanks"
Does Anazar say this? It's fine to talk during combat, but it's all in character

Here's what this same post looks like with roleplaying.

Alarain: "I scan the battlefield to see who is most haggard."
GM: "Anazar seems particularly wounded."
Alarain: "My hands glow blue with the holy energy of Chastain, shooting energy out to heal Anazar." "9 points
Anazar: "Grunting, "Thanks""
Alarain: "I then move behind Gortruk, hoping his shield can defend me from any incoming hostiles."
Gortruk: "I motion to your belt, "Potion. You. Now"
Alarain: "Oh, yes, I quickly down a sour, burning potion" (Marks the HP recovered without having to mention it out loud)

Gortruk goes next. Unprompted, because everyone knows the order of initiative and turns take 20 seconds at most.

IT IS PLAYABLE. IT HAS BEEN PLAYED.
EXPEDITION is a ~1880s era, Jules Verne-inspired retro-futurist, underground blood soaked adventurescape.
It is a Skirmish wargame. Two players with their own expeditions, on a hexgrid map, explore & fight each other for victory and profit.

I have a distinct memory of doing a reading at U.C. Irvine, where Avram was teaching at the time, to find him sitting in a front row, holding a frisky helium balloon in one hand, and a pretty young student’s hand in the other. After I finished my gig (somewhat distracted by performing in front of one of my major heroes, old friend or no), Avram came up to give me a hug and to inquire, quite seriously, “What do you know about feral camels?” As it happened, I did know something about a tentative attempt by the American Army, in the days after the Civil War, to introduce a small force of camels into the deserts of the Southwest. The attempt was soon abandoned; but for many years afterward, soldiers and nineteenth-century tourists alike would report having seen impossible ghostlike creatures materializing out of a sandstorm, and vanishing again just as swiftly.

I happened upon this while flipping the story I'm aiming for. It reminds me of the oldlore of saurs being introduced to the west like these camels. It makes me wonder if whoever came up with that knew this story, or if it's just such a perfectly natural idea that strange animals should be introduced to the deserts of America.

Yeah I think they just really doubled down on the grim dark overplayed month python jokes for bretonnia before ultimately forgetting they exist. Which sucks because I feel like a lot more cool fantastical shit could be done with bretonnia rather than “le nobles so mean lolz!”. I still want the kidnapped boys to be badass spellblades and for them to ride more cool monsters
>>
It’s a little annoying that the Chaos Warriors are seemingly the only true faceless armored dudes available since Foot Knights have their eyes visible through their visors. I think if you liked heavy armored fantasy dudes that full faceless look is important, though it explains the popularity of Chaos historically.

Based knower. I hope they get models some day, would make for a really cool campaign scenario.

See that would be cool. In general it just feels like not much is done with bretonnia when it could be so much cooler but they’re limited by GW treating them like a joke faction. I have some hope though since they were a TOW launch army

It'd be more basic, but you could try taking the existing Wizard kits and reworking those into specialist variants. Some of them already have barred schools, or otherwise lean towards a specialty. It might be relatively simple to line up the Witch kit with Conjuration specialization with both having Con requirements, where the Witch offers a free familiar starting at 3rd level, as an example.

Any property humans have, mental or physical, is likely to be average among sapient species. There is no reasonable justification to expect anything. That's true, I also enjoy the concept, it's very unique and very true to D&D's Sword and Sorcery roots; science fantasy is cool and I think proper science fantasy is kind of underrated still, but literal, outright "fantasy in space" is even less represented.

I've stopped playing D&D and am now a GURPSfag, but I have played some Forgotten Realms and Spelljammer in GURPS using GURPS Dungeon Fantasy (*not* Dungeon Fantasy RPG). Very fun stuff. Much more fun than in D&D to be honest.
In any case, Mystara, Forgotten Realms, Spelljammer, Greyhawk, Dark Sun, Eberron, Planescape, Al-Qadim and Ravenloft are all varying degrees of kino in their own way. A good and passionate GM can run excellent games in any of them.
The rest are trash.
