Que Retardado Edition>What is Trench Crusade? An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.>What Trench Crusade is notTC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.>What's the QRD on the background? The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.>How do I get started? All the files are free online, but are split between the website and the discord. >Auralnauts is over>never ended up finishing their parodies of Ep 8/9All things come to an end. I wonder if Darths and Droids will revive whenever another trilogy gets shit out in the 2030s.
My friend group is picking one of each of the legion starters tomorrow. Is there a way to build each for recon games? Do they have set lists included in the box or is there somewhere I can see some type of demo lists for the contents?
>>96872188Nah that would be Rey Mary Sue
>>96911107All the new Starter sets contain a list fit for an initiation game. They are not perfectly balanced for a "real" recon game as Empire and GAR are both above the 600pts limit while Rebel and CIS are below but they are matched well enough in power level and activation counts. What's cool about these starter list is that they use all the model in the box and gives most of them upgrades which helps with grasping the rules.>>96909561Your minis should mostly be good (except for Palpatine and IRG, rip in pieces) but you may need to print new cards and you'll need:>circles with a diameter of 2 inches for objectives>range ruler or measuring tape for the 3-inches contesting distance and some other rules
>>96911685I'd personally like to use IRGs as imperial agents. There is enough weapon variety in the old kit to account for all the agent weapon options

>>96912143It doesn't matter that much, but since you have to pick it's probably better to read the DM one first, since the Player's one was put together by a different Anon who wanted to provide a different point of view. Both collect advice from many different Anons from /osrg/ over a couple of years of revisions and improvements by the way, and the authors have been accepting constructive feedback, so feel free to drop comments or suggestions about it, if you feel like it. Or ask any questions, we'll be happy to help. However, not sure if the Anons who wrote the two guides are here or in the real /osrg/ thread (this is a parody shitposting thread). Archeryhttps://youtube.com/watch?v=DElM46A8gfQI do this in between mtg games.
This is how I play a ki-based monk
>>96904139Bracers of dexterity and strength
I made and played a mounted archer once, back in 3.5 days.It was cool and novel. It was also a mechanical mess, complicated combat, restricted where and how useful I was in a fight, completely consumed my Feats and Skills, wasn't pertinent in a major part of the game (indoors/underground), and ended up with a bad case of 13th Warrior Syndrome.
This is how I play modern RPGs.>>96896655>>96911947At least, it was memorable?
>>96912115Only to me, really. The others only vaguely recall it. It was pretty limited and about 20 years ago.
What are your preferred skill systems, or lack thereof, especially for modern settings?I'm working on a couple homebrews and reskins and I find every skill list I come up with to be unsatisfactory in one way or another. Overlap, some skills too niche, some too broad, deciding on what is a skill vs what isn't.For that reason I think I'd prefer "skill" equivalents to be based on backgrounds and professions, but the lack of skills can feel weird sometimes in modern settings.
>>96908331What are your thoughts about any of the on-topic contributions to the thread?
>>96908369bump
>>96888032Sure, but that's mostly because Nuclear Physics would be more of a "derived" skill rather than a normal skill. It relies a lot on more basic skills such as Mathematics and Chemistry.
>>96887471>>96887745>backgrounds systemsIt's all fine and dandy, but I just have two issues with these.First, there is the Superspy/commando background trick.>Oh, OF COURSE I'm good with a gun, I'm a superspy>Oh, OF COURSE I know how to speak Mandarin, I'm a superspy>Oh, OF COURSE I know how to diffuse a bomb, or hack a computer, or seduce a cutie... etcThere are backgrounds which can be used to justify close to any types of skills. At least having some guidelines about what can more common backgrounds can and cannot do (aka, have a small list of typical skills which each background would have) can help mitigate that, even if you allow people to come up with their own background.Second issue is, giving characters skills which are not part of their background can go a long way to give them more depths. You make a hacker character, with mostly hacker skills, but you drop a few points in "cooking" just for fun. In the end it makes the character much more colourful and it can end up being useful in the most unexpected situations in the game, which is also fun.
>>96886766>>96912314That being said, I like the way Scales does it, which is to have both a profession AND a hobby. This way you can easily make your hacker either stereotypical or not. Plus, it's expected that your hobby shouldn't be something too useful, so you don't need to sacrifice some precious skill points that could be put in shooting, to put them in cooking. On top of that, they actually have a list of professions, listing three concrete stuff each professions is going to be skilled at, which at least mitigates the superspy background exploit. The absolute best solution, IMHO, is to have a list of skills which are directly informed by the gameplay (for example: only have "research" as a skill research is something that happens regularly in actual play. If it's an investigation-heavy game, for ex), even if you just keep it at the back of your mind, as a guideline for what each broad background/archetype can and cannot do. And leave a little space for players to spice up their characters with skills/traits which only have a very low chance of coming up in play, which they can be free to invent potentially: ethnicity, hobby...

>>96894773I don't mind the Mecha-Dogu as long as we make it clear that they're retroactively applying their own mythology to the things, and keep the numbers limited. There's a lot of shit buried down there after all, and who knows how many cycles it's been since they bestrode the earth.>>96895644I think it could do with some tweaking, especially if you want to get humour through, but it's a good basic overview. Though, I would say that while Cunningham likes using the navy to bombard places he wants, he's one of the few to recognise that an alliance with Atlantis and everyone else who's reasonable is badly needed. The way I think of him is that he's a prepper who got put in charge of the fleet and what he's prepping for is the Napoleon/Hyperborean Deluge Extravaganza.>>96908124I like the idea of making spain a general catholic faction instead, makes it easier to fit in other units that would clog things up if we keep on making factions for everyone. The only problem I can see is that apart from messing with the Italians their main interest is on the surface, there's not much reason for them to go below the Fourth.
>>96909951>there's not much reason for them to go below the Fourth. You could say that...no one suspects it?Also, I completely refuse to believe that Duke "Sink Atlantis Again" Cunningham wants anything to do with them. He looked at the friendliest underground power and did the ONE THING that could make them mad by contesting their layer with Beatrice Shores. My take on the man is that he is the utter rejection of Agarthan weirdness personified. He's not going to rest until everything down there is sensible and normal, and if that means he needs to burn it all down then so be it.I'll try for the funnywriting later when I can find the time. In the meanwhile I'll also try to finally put the Keshiq together since the blu-tak fell off.
>>96910450I realize now that I meant to say "no one expects it"I'm fucked boys, absolutely fucked. Don't go straight from editing a technical report to editing a process presentation to shitposting.
>>96910450See, the way I see it is that Cunningham knows that the Atlanteans are happy in their stagnation, a bit improved with the Revolution and the king, but they need something else to kick them into gear before something worse comes along, and Rakkad ain't gonna do it. Why else would he wave the red flag at the bull? I feel like writing him as some RVLE Britannia guy is too simple, he's someone who understands what's coming, but he's resisting the temptation of a Faustian bargain that Napoleon and Malcolm took, instead going all in on politicking and sheer industrial might.

What are some interesting, original, or smooth-working elemental interaction systems in card-based games, be it TCGs or boardgames?I'm not talking about just sorting game assets in various elements/factions that are sometimes used by card effects (like in Yu-Gi-Oh), but the way the elements themselves interact and play off eachother. For example, in Pokémon attacks of a certain type do more/less/double/halved damage to other types depending on the Type matrix. The question might or might not be related to my shitty homebrew MtG clone game, but don't mind that.
>>96893012>For example, in Pokémon attacks of a certain type do more/less/double/halved damage to other types depending on the Type matrixWouldn't you be making your game unbalanced? Pokemon has the excuse of a preexisting game, why would you do it on purpose and make a fire deck weak to water deck from the getgo?
>>96910969>fire weak to waterIn what fucking world? Water gets BOILED by fire and literally disappears
>>96910974>and literally disappearsAnon, I.... It's the fire that disappears, the water just changes shape
>>96910974Water puts out fires anon.On that note some RPGs classify ice as water for simplicity, plus ice would just melt into water and snuff the fire. But it's also fun to think of it behaving like reverse water cause I don't think ice conducts electricity very well but is melted by fire.
>>96911356>Anon, I.... It's the fire that disappears, the water just changes shapeWater gets boiled, changes shape into AIR (no effect on fire, but actually fuels it in some cases). Why do you think they dump dirt on forest fires from helicopters and not water?>Water puts out fires anonWrong-o. That's why fire extinguishers aren't just canisters of water. Because it doesn't work. Water just makes the fire spread in your kitchen, it doesn't contain it.
