All the new Starter sets contain a list fit for an initiation game.
They are not perfectly balanced for a "real" recon game as Empire and GAR are both above the 600pts limit while Rebel and CIS are below but they are matched well enough in power level and activation counts. What's cool about these starter list is that they use all the model in the box and gives most of them upgrades which helps with grasping the rules.

Your minis should mostly be good (except for Palpatine and IRG, rip in pieces) but you may need to print new cards and you'll need:
>circles with a diameter of 2 inches for objectives
>range ruler or measuring tape for the 3-inches contesting distance and some other rules

Sure. Overall, cool artifact. I'm a big fan of telepresence/scry and this is entirely build around it, so i might be biased, but it seems mostly balanced and fun to use. At most re:balance I'd say that the first few charms are stronger than average for their level while the last few charms are weaker than average for their level, but that's normalized in 3e design despite being an awful idea, so meh, all good.

>Upon dealing lethal damage to a target, Solitary Star can spend 1 mote to reflexively reduce the damage inflicted down to zero. Instead of dying[....]
This should be 'Upon dealing incapacitating damage to a target,' if I'm reading your intent right. Lethal damage is a damage type (things like being cut or burned, as opposed to being bruised or disintegrated), while incapacitating damage is would-kill-you damage.

>The Void Star Marked gains an Intimacy of worshipful fear towards Solitary Star as long as the mark remains on them
Should be 'gains a Minor Intimacy of worshipful fear towards Solitary Star which cannot be removed as long as the mark remains on them.'

>Taking Stock of the Tools
Very strong. Scry+Speak with unlimited range and only a mote cost, which seems intentionally designed to fake minor telepresence especially given TCHaGT, is close to being over the top of what I'd ever think was appropriate for E2.

>Breaking the Discarded Tool.
>Solitaire
Probably meant to be Solitary Star, unless that's a nickname.

>>96911962
>If the Void Star Marked dies while under the effects of this Charm, their body automatically explodes as per Breaking the Discarded Tool. If the Void Star Marked dies in any other way, the Charm instantly ends and Solitary Star suffers (10-Essence) levels of unsoakable lethal damage from necrotic backlash.
The first clause should cover all death clauses under the effects of the charm. The second clause covers all other effects. This feels like a versioning/editing error, but if this is actually meant to mean that once this charm is taken, killing Void Star Marked deals damage to Solitary Star when she's not possessing them (making it a weakness that could be exploited to harm her from afar) then that should be more clearly stated. If it's not then the second part which covers all other deaths probably isn't necessary - there's no way to trigger 'the void marked dies while the charm is active, but in a way other than dying' so far as I can tell. You might have meant that while possessing the Void Star Marked Breaking the Discarded Tool can be activated reflexively, and if it isn't then the Abyssal takes damage from the backlash when they die.

>Tools Get Used
This is a perfect defense and should probably have a once/scene on it with a reset condition because of it.

>Solitary Star magically yanks one of her Void Star Marked
"yanks one of her Void Star Marked from within medium range"

>If there is no Void Star Marked within Medium Range of Solitary Star
Either "If there is no Void Star Marked within range of Solitary Star" if you did the previous edit, or otherwise it's just that medium range doesn't need capital letters.

A quick and dirty fix for this if you want enlightened mortals to have Excellencies is to cap them at (Essence x 2). Enlightened mortals tend to have lower Essence ratings so it works. It's what I use for spirits anyway.

▶What is Kingdom Death?
Kingdom Death is a tabletop minature brand stared by Adam Poots and operated by himself and his Team that later spun off into a miniature based bored game funded by two very successful Kickstarter campaigns.

▶What is Kingdom Death: Monster?
Monster is a Nightmare Horror cooperative boss battler/miniature hobby game for 1-4 players about hope in a strange world of bizarre monstrosities and perpetually darkness. Players take on the role of survivors that band together to form a settlement, fighting monsters, crafting weapons and gear, and developing their civilization to ensure survival from generation to generation.

Prologue Narration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNLc8dHv0Ac

The Game is broken up into 3 phases:
1. During your Hunt Phase your band of survivors traverse the world of KD in pursuit of their quarry.
2. After successfully tracking your quarry you will begin the Showdown Phase, where you must fell these horrific creatures in order to acquire precious resources.
3. After the battle, your survivors wander home with loot in hand to begin the Settlement Phase. Arm yourself by developing new weapons and bizarre structures to prepare for next year's hunt.

Black Knight
GCE
Sunstalker/Dragon King
DBK
Red Witches
People also recommend Gorm but personally I dislike him visually (tbqh I dislike how every other nq1 looks too, besides white lion)
>>
>>96912216
It gives you the option to start over or to hunt another monster without recovering. You could just go hunt a level 1 white lion if you didn't want to restart. And restarting isn't a loss either, because you get to keep all your gear and your 4 hunting survivors, so you're starting from year 1 with a huge advantage.

Yeah sorry, that was a dumb question. I was wondering more if there were big balance changes or changes to models that makes the latest version more worth it versus an old one someone is selling. But it looks mostly the same to me from a cursory search
>>
>>96913022
1.5 is still fine to purchase (if you can actually get a good deal) because the differences are quite small and then you can buy a $30 1.6 upgrade pack from official store which will cover all the changes between those versions and also includes a bunch of bonus content from old white boxes
Anything below 1.5 I wouldn't get

>I just hope they can drive the value into the chase cards to keep decks cheap, which seems to be the goal of most recently launched tcgs.
I wonder if this actually damages the games sales. While I love decks being cheap, I've found that I have no interest in opening packs if the only hits are hyper rare 1 per 100 pallets shit.
>>
>>96912852
>I've found that I have no interest in opening packs if the only hits are hyper rare 1 per 100 pallets shit.
If this is what you are feeling then it stands to reason there's many more of the same mind. What that means is no one buys products, only singles. Why not? If all I need is the 1 of 100 packs card, why gamble if there's no other valuable hits? This means stores sell less and less until they can't justify the shelf space for junk no one wants. This is repeatedly happening all over, so don't think your game is exempt.

There's a happy medium - have good value in cards that are one per 4 or 6 packs, some big ticket wins, and a handful of staples that are worth a pack or two, and you're golden. It's worked for Lorcana and One Piece.

Or they could actually make the game fun to draft, which was a huge driver of Magic LGS sales for many, many years, until wotc stopped putting in effort.

Getting away from game systems and pieces for a moment, how do you prevent a gamestore from becoming a free childcare service, while still remaining open and amicable with the public?

The case I go back to are the GW Battle Bunkers. The one in Memphis I was familiar with really sold me on the hobby, walking in and seeing 20+ full art, prepped tables and getting to observe games as a youngster was a wonderful experience, but the sheer amount of unattended children and teens was the given as the reason for the closing of the game room (outside of special events, though I believe they're just gone-gone now, correct me if I'm wrong). When I've returned to the Battle Bunker stores recently, they've been sterile, dark, empty, like you walked into a small town's only munition shop. I can't imagine this facilitating the sale of starter boxes or generating referral traffic, though obviously these larger distributor warehouses don't really care about direct sales too too much.

So that brings up your LGS. What staff training, procedures, and store policies can really protect a store from becoming an irresponsible parent drop off, while still protecting these entry-level childhood experiences that attach kids to these hobbies and these open, high quality gaming spaces to responsible players? I don't see many of these these days, they're either holes in the wall with one 4x4 table and two blanchard tables for Magic, or they're really low quality, wide open cheap strip mall joints with rows and rows of folding tables and no quality art pieces, terrain, or table builds. How could this be fixed adequately?

I did a bit of reading. Many websites were saying it is illegal for parents to give tobacco products to children. But when I read the law they all pointed to over and over again, the one they said made it illegal to supply tobacco to minors, the law said
>it's an offense to sell tobacco to a minor
>it's an offense to supply tobacco to a minor in a public place
The definition the law gave for a public place does not include a private residence.

In public it's illegal to give cigarettes to children, I don't know if you could give cigarettes away for Halloween, but in the privacy of your own home it looks like anyone, not just parents can give cigarettes to children without breaking smoking laws

It's not an offense for a minor to possess tobacco, and it's not an offense for a minor to smoke unless they do it in a public building, or at school, or they do it in a car and there's another minor in the car even if both minors are smoking, but that's a matter of wrong place not a ban on them smoking.

Depends entirely on the game system you cater to the most and the demographic makeup of your locals. Are you the only store in town providing an environment for adults and older teens only to enjoy complex strategy wargames? Simply add a minimum age barrier for entry when not accompanied by a supervising individual of your minimum accepted age. Maybe if you really want to, make it 18+/21+ only. Not every store has to cater to pokemon.

But maybe you're the only person in the entire town running a shop, and more than 70% of business comes from pokemon kids between 6 and 13. Like it or not, you'll have to cater to them or go out of business.

I've never seen someone hold this position and not be a massive sack of shit the world would probably be better off without, to be honest. If you don't get an urge to teach youngsters about your hobby and show them the fun ways you can engage with them, then you don't really get to complain when companies shift focus away from your preferred interests.

When Sanderson talks about a 'hard' magic system, he means the powers of the main characters for a particular story work in a specific way and they can't magibabble their way out of a particular problem. Just like a whodunnit that "plays fair", the characters can only do stuff that the reader could have come up with as well. But how they work from a cosmological, worldbuilding perspective is still kind of arbitrary.
There's some background lore with the source of all magic being some soulstuff called 'investiture'. But there's no specific reason why investiture links certain kinds of metal to those specific abilities on the Mistborn world.
What I gather, the nerdy pursuit of learning everything about the Cosmere and the workings of the magic systems and attaining a sense of building expertise is supposed to be the whole appeal, so it's disappointing that there's such a gap there imo.

Power Words Engine House Rules:

Q: Go on about this, please.
A: My only real house rule is that my players do not know all the words at the start (there are 1000+ in the book). They learn words as they go along, building new spells with the words they gain. My only way to control the madness.

Q: And how do they learn words besides seeing their enemies use them?
A: Three top ways outside of weird scenarios. I want the process to be slow or costly, as one new word can effectively interact with every other word the player knows.
>Countering or interacting with opponent spells that is not "just getting hit"). Not just seeing them.
>Finding old runes and spellbooks or studying leftover/lingering magical effects (a long-term study that preserves the object/place being studied).
>Breaking down magical scrolls, books, and artifacts. The quality of roll will tell you how many words are learned if there are multiple words ('quick and dirty' tear down).

Do you prefer your barbarians as froth-at-the-mouth murder machines or honorbound but brutal warriors?

Interesting post anon!
Do you think being from a foreign barbaric savage land should be reflected in how NPCs treat a barbarian character?

>GM runs an encounter specifically designed to curbstomp the players

Is there a right and wrong way to do this or is this inherently a bad idea? I can understand having monsters outside of the PCs' weight class destroying them, but when an encounter is specifically designed to make the PCs look like a chump?

If your game has discrete "encounters" it's trash.

Continuous combat is a bit too admin heavy for most tables.

What's the point of running every single game as pue power fantasy? In my worlds, there are many, many people who happen to be stronger than (you), most of whom do not travel around with a big sign on their neck saying "DON'T ATTACK ME"

I too enjoy staring at walls and spending every game session going shopping like a metrosexual.

Then why stop them? If they can rig a scheme to take down a threat typically too strong for them to handle under conventional means, then let them. If it fails, they die. Simple as.

Welcome to games.
